* NoBudget: The whole mixtape ''nostalgia, ULTRA.'' was done in a fairly short time with a shoestring budget, considering half of its tracks featured pre-existing instrumentals.
* PostReleaseRetitle: ''Blond'' was retitled ''Blonde'' for its double-LP reissue in 2022.
* ReclusiveArtist: Ocean became increasingly reclusive after releasing ''channel ORANGE'' and opening up about his sexuality, with him scarcely releasing any information about his upcoming music. He did make a few appearances in 2016 and 2017, doing pop-up performances for ''Blonde'' and releasing singles every now and then. His output and social media activity stopped completely after his brother died in August 2020; however, he did surface in 2021, speaking on the outro of Music/TylerTheCreator's song "LEMONHEAD", appearing at that year's Met Gala, doing a few interviews to promote his new jewelry line Homer, and resurrecting ''blonded RADIO'' for its third installment of [[ChristmasEpisode "blonded Xmas"]].
* TroubledProduction: Ocean's performance at Coachella on April 16th, 2023 received an immediate status of infamy among fans and the wider public. His initial planned headlining performance for the festival in 2020 was canceled due to the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic, and a lot of people doubted that he would perform at all after the death of his younger brother Ryan that summer. However, he was confirmed as a headliner for the festival in 2023, and despite the shows being considerably hyped as his return to live music after six years, the performance ended up being one of the worst-reviewed sets for that weekend, if not of all of Coachella history. Hours before it was set to start, it was announced that it would not be livestreamed on [=YouTube=], which angered a lot of international fans as well as ones that couldn't attend the show. When Ocean finally showed up, he was an hour late, which sources have claimed was due to an elaborate planned stage design that included an ice skating show and professional dancers being canceled by Ocean hours before the performance, which meant that the stage had to be disassembled and all of the dancers' rehearsal time went down the drain. Separate sources in Ocean's camp, according to ''[[https://variety.com/2023/music/news/frank-ocean-coachella-hockey-players-podcast-ice-rink-empty-netters-1235588556/ Variety]]'', have reportedly stated that the show's drastic changes were due to advice from Ocean's doctors after he injured his ankle in rehearsals the week before the show (which he later cited in withdrawing from his second planned performance for the festival on April 23), and not just whims on his part.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** ''nostalgia, ULTRA'' was going to get a physical release in the form of an EP called ''nostalgia, LIFE'' back in 2011 but the release was canceled due to Ocean's busy commitments on recording ''channel ORANGE''.
** ''Blonde'' was initially titled ''Boys Don't Cry'' and featured multiple different iterations of songs. It's been rumored that the singles he put out after the release of the album were songs that didn't make the cut.
** He was set to headline at Coachella in 2020, which many interpreted as a sign a new album was coming. He stated in interviews that he was busy traveling to different cities and working with different producers on new work, and was taking influence from French electronic music and Detroit and Chicago house. The release of the tracks "DHL", "In My Room", "Cayendo" and "Dear April" between late 2019 and early 2020 were also taken as signs of a new album. However, the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic caused Coachella to ultimately be canceled, as well as Frank supposedly having to stop production of his album due to his anti-Internet production style requiring him to move to various cities. When his brother died in August 2020, he disappeared from the Internet entirely, even after America had a successful COVID vaccine rollout by the summer of 2021 and concerts started up again. He announced during his performance at Coachella in 2023 that a new album was being produced, although he didn't specify when it would be released.
