* ActorAllusion: Surely, people may not have noticed both Eight and Ignis being announced so close to each other brings to mind both Creator/MiyuIrino and Creator/MamoruMiyano nodding towards the heavily-fan-requested Sora and Riku?
* AllStarCast: Needless to say, thanks to SQEX getting everyone from previous casts back to voice their characters again, the cast list reads like a who's-who of high profile voice actors. What's particularly notable, however, is that there are also a fair few folks finally getting voices for the first time (most notably the rest of the V, VI, VIII and IX casts) and SQEX did not skimp on making sure they got talent, too:
** Bartz and Exdeath have had voices since Dissidia (the latter had cases of TheOtherDarrin however), and Creator/KazuyaNakai returns from a few cameos for Gilgamesh, but this is the first time that the rest of the party's been voiced. So for the three other ladies in Bartz' life, how about we get Creator/RieTanaka to voice Faris, Creator/YukariTamura to do Krile, and somehow get Ayako Fuckmothering Kawasumi to take time away from her insanely lucrative Sabering job to voice Lenna? Sure, said Square, let's do that. Bartz's dad Dorgann and his fellow Warrior of Dawn Kelger get veteran VA Creator/MasakiTerasoma and Tetsuo Kanao to voice them. The sole cast member to not be quite as famous is Galuf, as he is voiced by veteran character actor Hiroshi Naka.
** Outside of Zidane and Kuja retaining the long-time actors, this is the first time just about anyone from IX outside of Vivi has been voiced, and once again Square did not skimp on securing talent for some of the franchise's most beloved characters. Garnet landed none other than Creator/MamikoNoto as her voice, and Eiko gained rising star Creator/HisakoKanemoto as hers. Freya gained the voice of veteran actress Creator/AiOrikasa (best known to many as Quatre). Steiner is, again, the only odd man out (being voiced by relative low-key character actor Minoru Hirota). Beatrix was a particular surprise given that her Japanese voice was first revealed in the global version, and the world found out that Creator/YukaKomatsu had been recruited for it... and while previously she might've been a comparative unknown, she is now coming into this role screaming hot off of gaining international fame for her role as Caulifla in a certain globally-simulcast anime.
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The whole fact the game is still being updated, with over a hundred characters added since launch, despite the game it was spun off from being quietly shut down.
** The ongoing Lost Chapters content averts hard TemporaryOnlineContent, slowly putting a cut-down event map for any limited event characters, allowing you to unlock characters whose original event was back when the game first launched. Also, When you pull a weapon in the gacha system that belongs to a character you don't have, the game retroactively unlocks the character for you, whether they're a story or event character.
** The game was given a patch that gave every character Level 70 on their base stats and Crystal Level, as well as unlocking all summons at Level 20, for anyone who had completed the tutorial for the rest of the game's life cycle. What is most notable about this patch is that, normally a patch like this is done as part of winding down before the game shuts down or is temporary as part of an event, which this was a case of neither.
** With massively increased number of BRV hits and HP dumps resulting from PowerCreep required to keep them useable in current endgame fights easily obscuring the characters' animations and effects entirely, the GL version got an exclusive update that allows players to turn off all BRV and/or HP damage numbers.
* GodNeverSaidThat: On the Global side of the game, Square Enix Twitch stream host Joshua showcases upcoming releases for the month. For the 3rd anniversary celebration, Joshua made the announcement that there would be no Global Exclusive character released during the anniversary, however the audience interpreted that as "there would be no more Global Exclusive characters from this point forward" instead. When the announcement was made for the third Global Exclusive character, Cor from Final Fantasy XV, Joshua made a point to call out who the fans misunderstood him, although he also said he was fine letting them get the wrong idea since it made it easier to surprise them later on.
* ModelDissonance: A list of them so far:
** During certain animations, it can be easy to notice a model of someone wobble around a bit; this is heavily noticeable during certain abilities used to land a killing blow during a slow motion portion during a final wave of an encounter (Yda's Snap Punch, Noctis' Warp Strike, Yang's Kick, etc.).
** There's also times where the models that are not properly aligned against a respective target will face at them via an awkward angle if player inputs are rushed through outside of the auto-battle function, as likely the game was interrupted in the process of properly orienting the character's model towards the target. Terra's Burst Attack animation may be the most glaring about this, especially if the enemy she is targeting is not in the center position (although, even then sometimes her model veers heavily to the right or left), this also happens with Garnet's Burst animation, that can veer off so severely Alexander's model isn't even on-screen (or just a tip of his wing is).
** Whenever abilities and/or any attacks are used successively on an enemy, the enemy target's pain animations when taking damage from BRV Attacks may fail to load properly and the models may just simply appear to stand still despite taking damage, even when there aren't any defensive/resistance modifiers applied to the said target.
** This also teeters on OffModel in the case of Cyan, where people have made memes about his neck in his idle stance being longer than it should be.
** Rydia's sleeves have no animation. While this looks fine in her idle stance, any time she moves her arms it become apparent she just has two triangles of fabric sticking straight out.
** An additional case comes with Aerith - she has a unique "prayer" animation she does sometimes in cutscenes where she puts her head back and joins her hands together, but her long braid is still aligned with the back of her head, so when she does it her braid goes right through her back and out by her pelvic region.
* NoDubForYou: Surprisingly, the global release of the game retained Japanese voice acting for all characters, making Opera Omnia the first piece of FF media to not get an English dub. The PSX and PSP versions of VideoGame/FinalFantasyII technically don't count, being limited to brief grunts. As noted, this got a bit strange with Beatrix, since it was Creator/YukaKomatsu's debut as the Japanese voice of Beatrix... in the English client of the game.
* OutOfOrder: Sephiroth's Intersecting Wills chapter released in Global months before it would have if going off the original JP release dates. Not only did this introduce Jihl Nabaat before her actual Lost Chapter, but it directly referenced Kefka's plot in Act 4, Chapter 3, Part 2 that wouldn't be released until a few weeks later.
* RealLifeRelative: Chiharu Sawashiro (VA for Lluyd) is the RealLife younger brother of Creator/MiyukiSawashiro (VA for Quistis, Agrias, Aranea, and Sice).
* Rerun: Locke's event returned for Chapter 5 of Arc 2, along with his EX reprinted on the story banner, receiving his rework, and gaining his Lv. 70 awakening. This was possibly due to him ADayInTheLimelight being a central character in the said chapter, but this was also all before his Lost Chapter ever hit where he's considered a permanent character at that point. Beatrix in Global release. She had her event rerun along with her and Steiner's reworks and EX+ realisations. In the effects of COVID-19, several events in JP were rerun, allowing many players to get additional gems or recruit past characters they hadn't the chance earlier. Since Aranea was Global-released first, it's expected that her rerun will be a long time and with Lufenia difficulty.
* RoleReprise:
** Edge, Yang, Rosa, Palom and Porom, Edward, Fusoya and Rubicante retain their voice actors from the DS remakes of VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV.
** Celes, Edgar, Faris and Quistis retain their voice actors from VideoGame/WorldOfFinalFantasy.
** Also applies to characters who either first and/or only had voice actors in the Kingdom Hearts series, most prominently Selphie, Viviwho actually had his voice actress in other content beforehand however, Seifer, Raijin and Fuujin.
** This also applies to a series of very old official-voiced-videos of VideoGame/FinalFantasyXI, but so far, the only examples apply to Lilisette, and a very obscure case: [[spoiler:Eald'narche]].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Sometime between Year One and Year Two of the game's lifetime data-miners (people who go into the code of the game to find things that have been added which can be potential release spoilers) found character and weapon artwork for Angeal, Amarant, and Rikku, however Amarant and Angeal would not be released until Year Six of the game, with Rikku having not yet been added. As this information was found via hacking, it's also not like players can ask the creators why they weren't added, although an unrelated interview did mention how Rikku is hard to include in any game with voice acting due to the voice actor being very expensive to hire at this point. With the announcement of the servers closing, Rikku will not be added to the game before its shut-down.
** With the announcement of the game's shut down on February 29th, 2024 it was decided that the Global Server would no longer be receiving any new story chapters nor any of the unreleased weapons or characters that the Japan Server already have been able to enjoy. This means Amarant, Rufus Shinra, Xezat, and Angeal will never be playable for Global players even though they are fully programmed and just need translations.Part of this seems to stem that once they announced the intention of shutting down the servers, the devs were forced to stop all in-game transactions. Therefore there is no monetary reason to release the new characters or weapons, since they likely just have to give them away for free. Extra work for no profit.
** Again with the shut-down, part of the reason the devs claim this was a good time to end the game is they felt Act 4, Chapter 9 was conclusive enough to justify ending the story. Had they decided not to shut down the servers, they could have continued the story into Act 5.
** Also, the devs had expressed intention very shortly before the game's end of service announcement to add more characters from Final Fantasy Tactics, something fans had long been requesting. It stings even more considering the game only ever has two representatives over Opera Omnia's lifespan, and even those two reps only just got their long-awaited updates right before the announcement (Ramza's Force Weapon, and Agrias's Force and Burst), so Global will not get to enjoy them.
** Perhaps leaning more towards conjecture, throughout the game hints of other characters who could be added in the future have been made during the story and character events, such as Vaan talking about meeting with his brother Reks, or Relm finding her grandfather Strago. A few of these that did not end up coming to fruition include:
*** Yuna and Paine not only mentioning Rikku, but stating she was probably already in the World of Respite and they just had not run into her yet.
*** Golbez being continuously worried that "something" would cause him to fall into the darkness again, being a vague reference the mad Lunarian Zemus/Zeromus could appear to brainwash him again.
*** Weiss the Immaculate mentions that he is not at his full power, and without the assistance of his brother, Nero the Sable, he would not be able to take control of the World of Respite through its core like he wanted.
*** Kadaj also mentions his brothers, Loz and Yazoo, as if they could appear at some point as well.
* WordOfGod: An interview with Ichiro Hazama, who worked on the year one release of Opera Omnia before moving to other projects provided some insight to the lack of certain popular characters and franchises in the game from his perspective. Everything pulled from the interview was from someone who only worked on the launch year, and this interview was conducted before the End of Service for the game was announced:
** In regards to Rikku, Hazama assures that she will be added to the game ... eventually. He confirms there are just some complications in including her in any new titles.Rikku's original voice actor, Marika Matsumoto, changed representation between Final Fantasy X and now, so it actually is very expensive to bring her back for any Rikku-related project since she would have to be hired with a new contract just for that role.
** As for Red XIII, simply put because Red XIII is a quadruped he will require a completely original model made from scratch, including new emotes for only himself (walking, running, extending arm, looking pensive, etc.). Basically, it is easier to put off the extra work while they still have other humanoid characters they can implement with less effort.Even non-human characters like Cait Sith and Mog are still bipedal for the most part, so can piggyback on the pre-existing emotes. Programmers having a dislike to program for a quadruped has been a hurdle for Red XIII for years, explaining his downright miniscule roles in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus
