* CareerResurrection: What Dickie's looking for, and what he believes ''Mr. Blake's Backyard'' will provide for him. He only learns of the project from Creator/LeifGarrett, who even says that it could be to Dickie what ''Film/PulpFiction'' was to Creator/JohnTravolta. He also intends to publish his autobiography only after he's already accomplished this, since he wants it to end on the note that he's back on the up and up; [[spoiler:however, he ends up doing it beforehand to acquire the money he needs to research the role of Mr. Blake]].
* DyeingForYourArt: In-universe, Dickie temporarily decides to dye his hair black during his time treated like a child in order to not be recognized during the experience. [[EpicFail It... only made things worse in the long run.]]
** Also, although Rob Reiner tells Dickie that he has the right basic look he was going for, Dickie says that he's willing to alter his appearance in any necessary way.
* IAmNotSpock: During the closing song, Maureen [=McCormick=] provides a threat to anyone who calls her [[Series/TheBradyBunch Marcia]], which is followed by Dustin Diamond saying he'd "rather be called Marcia than [[Series/SavedByTheBell Screech]]".
* TechnologyMarchesOn: At one point, the mother is unable to find the address of an important client, with fire trucks delaying their arrival, so Dickie makes a prank call about a fire in the location and tells her to follow the fire trucks. These days, she would more likely have a device to provide directions, if not on her cell phone.
* ThrowItIn: Sally's rhyme was a routine practice that actress Jenna Boyd did. The director loved it and had her work it into the movie.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The script was originally a lot darker and involved a heavy drug smuggling plot.
** It’s mentioned on the DVD that they wanted to feature more contemporary former child stars alongside those from the 90s and earlier, but the unnamed actors the production reached out to turned them down.
