| 5 | ** The episode was originally written for Dan Blocker, where it would be Hoss abandoning bachelorhood, meeting Alice, the two marrying, Hoss learning he's going to be a father ... and then have it all come crashing down when Alice is brutally killed by a psychopath trying to collect on a gambling debt owed him by her brother, with Hoss then grieving, becoming an aimless drifter trying to get over his grief and then, after coming across the music box by chance, learning the truth behind his wife's death, before Hoss recruits Joe to help seek revenge. Blocker, sadly, died before the script was completed, so Michael Landon decided to rewrite the script to have Joe become the tragic bridegroom. |
