----
* ActingForTwo: Creator/KyleHebert voiced Yuji's long-gone friend Takashi and raid party member Robert Bradley early on before he'd voice Gendo Ikari Expy Seno Miyagi when the focus shifts to Second Earth.
* DirectedByCastMember: In the English dub, Creator/ChristopherSabat was the ADR director as well as Keith Bean's voice actor.
* EditedForSyndication: The Creator/CartoonNetwork version of this anime for Creator/AdultSwim, which aired in 2003, has most of the sexual scenes (and a couple of spoken references) cut, along with some gory violence and profanity (mostly "shit" and any variation of "Jesus Christ!" as an oath, though, oddly, the word "son of a bitch" has been edited, even though it is allowed at the Adult Swim level). It should be noted that Creator/Toonami was originally supposed to air Blue Gender this way, but after the episodes were found too risqué for a daytime block (yeah, TOM 3 is risqué, so?) the show found its way (edited) to Adult Swim. Considering that the show that preceded it was Anime/FLCL and that show was left unedited (save for muting the word "shit" on the second episode), it seems strange that Blue Gender was not aired uncut (or at least with a few minor cuts for nudity and sex).
** Also, the editing made the show nearly incomprehensible. Some characters who died on-screen in the original simply vanished without comment in Adult Swim's version.
** And that's why TOM will never find out about his strange and terminal illness!
* EnforcedMethodActing: The English dub was recorded in the dead of night at Funimation Studios so as not to have any lingering influence of Anime/DragonBallZ on the project. They wanted to adhere much more closely to the original Japanese (unlike their translations of the latter) as it was only their second licensed IP at the time of recording.In October 2001; a mere month before Z U.S. Season 5 had finished airing on television
** Yuji's actor Creator/EricVale pinched himself so that the pain in his character's screaming would be authentic. He even gurgled water to nail the scene during the first episode where Yuji pisses himself in fear just right.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: In North America, an edited version of the anime began airing on Creator/CartoonNetwork's Creator/AdultSwim block on August 7, 2003, and hasn't been re-broadcast since December 7, 2003.
* TheOtherDarrin: Shunsuke Shima voiced Doug Vreiss during his first appearance in episode 12 before being replaced by Katsuhiro Kitagawa in the succeeding episode and staying with the character for the remainder of the show. Kitagawa reprises the role in The Warrior.
** A fair number of characters were recast in The Warrior, especially in the original Japanese:
*** Keith Bean: Dai Matsumoto --> Creator/NobutoshiCanna
*** Yung: Ami Tokito --> Creator/TomokoKaneda
*** Seamus Han: Hikaru Hanada --> Hiroshi Isobe
*** Scott Manning: Naoki Kinoshita --> Akimitsu Takase
*** The Commander of Baikonur: Tetsuo Kanao --> Creator/NorioWakamoto
** And in the English dub:
*** The Commander of Baikonur: James Fields —> Creator/KentWilliams
*** Gernreich: Ned Record —> Creator/ChristopherBevins
*** Minh: Megan Woodall —> Susan Huber
*** The Scarred Member of the High Council: Rick Robertson —> Creator/TravisWillingham
* TheOtherMarty: Laura Bailey recorded grunts for Malcolm Lee in the first two episodes but it "didn't sound right" according to Chris Sabat and Eric Vale, so they were expunged. Malcolm would a few years later get to have a proper voice for The Warrior in both Japanese and English in the form of Creator/JojiNakata and King Hollis respectively.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Creator/KaraEdwards was going to voice tech expert Minnie White in the second episode, but she'd moved out to North Carolina and would only commute out of there to Texas to voice on Anime/DragonBallZ. Susan Huberusing the pseudonym Carol Hope was brought in at the last minute to record Minnie instead. Funny enough, Huber also replaced Edwards as Videl in Anime/DragonBallGT.
* WrittenByCastMember: Joey Heald's English voice actor Creator/JohnBurgmeier was one of the ADR writers.
