Context Trivia / AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers

Go To

* ActingForTwo: Henry Mandell did an amazing amount of voices, especially for secondary characters. The Screen Actors Guild had rules for overtime, but being as Henry was a series producer and the creator's brother...
* DuelingShows: ''Galaxy Rangers'' beat its SpaceWestern competitors, ''WesternAnimation/{{Bravestarr}}'' and ''Anime/SaberRiderAndTheStarSheriffs'', to the American airwaves by a year[[note]]Although ''Anime/SeiJuushiBismarck'' (i.e., the show that ''Saber Rider'' made a {{Macekre}} of) came two years before this show.[[/note]]--not that it made any difference in the ratings.
* DVDCommentary: On the American box sets, key episodes have commentary from Robert Mandell, his brother (and voice actor on the show) Henry, and story editor Christopher Rowley.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Shane Gooseman was clearly modeled on Creator/ClintEastwood, Doc was modeled on Creator/BillyDeeWilliams and Niko was modeled on the singer Music/{{Nico}}.
* OtakuOClock: Because of its position in syndication, its lack of a toy deal, and its tone it was usually aired in the ''very'' wee hours instead of in the after-school block
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/JerryOrbach tended to play anti-heroic types (or just plain slimy; see Billy Flynn of ''Theatre/{{Chicago}}''). Even [[WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast Lumeire]] was a bit of a scoundrel. His best known role was, of course, [[Franchise/LawAndOrder Lenny Briscoe]] (who was on the side of law most of the time, but not the nicest or most moral guy). Zachary being a straight up ByTheBookCop and classical heroic type was certainly a departure.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: It got very good ratings, according to Robert Mandell. [[PeripheryDemographic Just not the right demographic]] or the [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff right country]] for the toy companies.
* SimilarlyNamedWorks:
** ''Galaxy Rangers'' is the international distribution name for ''Series/KyoryuSentaiZyuranger'', as can be seen in the closing credits of its American adaptation ''Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers''.
** In the Latin American Spanish dub, they were called ''Los Guardianes de la Galaxia'', translated in English? ''ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'' - one fan had a ''great'' deal of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwpK_-UahHU fun with this.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** In [[http://home.mindspring.com/~allronix/galaxy_rangers/grinfo/starlog.htm this interview]] with ''Starlog'' magazine, series creator [[WordOfGod Robert Mandell]] says ''Galaxy Rangers'' started as a straight ScienceFiction premise called ''BETA Force''. Then he showed it to Bob Chrestani at the William Morris agency, who turned the show into a SpaceWestern by pointing out that it had "all the classic Western themes, the main one being justified violence, which is what all Westerns have been built on--lawlessness, new frontier and pioneers exploring unknown territories."
** In the initial demo reel (included on the DVD box set), Zachary's ''children'' were also captured and implied to have shared in their mom's FateWorseThanDeath. The demo reel also featured different (and to this day unknown) actors playing Zach and the gang.
** The writers admit that they would have jumped at the chance to write in an excuse for Zach to sing, seeing as Creator/JerryOrbach was a Broadway veteran.[[note]]He would go on to be the speaking and singing voices of Lumiere, the talking candelabra from ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast''.[[/note]]
** Toy licensee Creator/{{Galoob}} planned to make more action figures (including Niko, [=McCross=], Scarecrow, Waldo, and Zozo), the Queen's MechanicalHorse. and the [[CoolBike Jet Cycle]] vehicle before the line was canceled.
