* LateExportForYou: The original visual novel was released in June of 1999, with an official English release announced in 2024, nearly 25 years later.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: The cast of the show – three of them, at any rate – first debuted in the West in a cameo in ''VisualNovel/{{Air}}''. It didn't take ADV too long to pick up the [=KyoAni=] version of ''Kanon'', but the Toei version had been out for half a decade at that point. And yes, the voice actors are all the same despite a nearly two-year gap between the shows.
* NoExportForYou: The Toei version of the anime was never released outside of Japan.
* ReferencedBy:
** ''Webcomic/{{Megatokyo}}'' has Ayu make a background cameo in one panel; creator Fred Gallagher is an admitted fan of Creator/KeyVisualArts' works in general.
** In episode 4 of ''Manga/LuckyStar'', Konata's second excuse for being late to class is that she was hiding in a cafe with a girl who'd stolen from a taiyaki stand, in a very obvious reference to ''Kanon'' and Ayu's taiyaki-stealing tendencies. Episode 13 shows Konata saying [[VerbalTic "Uguu!"]] and inexplicably wearing Ayu's signature winged backpack when Kagami yells at her.
* ThrowItIn: Ayu's winged backpack wasn't actually supposed to be foreshadowing her nature; it just turned out that way. The director told the character designer to take the wings off the backpack because they might count as a spoiler, but later added the wings back on.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: A Canadian English dub of the 2002 anime was produced, with all of the episodes dubbed, but it wasn't announced and was left unreleased due to Geneon and Toei closing their deal.
