* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget: $22 million. Box office: $14 million worldwide. Universal [[https://variety.com/2022/film/box-office/smile-bros-opening-weekend-saturday-1235389942/ had projected]] the film to earn $10 million over its first domestic weekend, but it only managed half of that. Despite glowing reviews, exit data found non-LGBTQ people didn't show up and the film's audience was overwhelmingly gay and bisexual men. Not helping matters was its release competing with the buzzier, better-marketed Film/Smile2022, as well as the fact that a $22 million budget is ''a lot'' for a niche rom-com.
* DearNegativeReader: Creator/BillyEichner reacted to the movie's underperforming opening weekend [[https://twitter.com/billyeichner/status/1576684997095804928 via a Twitter thread]] blaming straight audiences, in certain parts of the United States, for not supporting it. This led to some online criticism towards his statements, with critics pointing out that even ''straight'' romantic comedies have done poorly at the box office in recent years, and turned off potential audiences that hadn't even heard of the movie in the first place.
* NoExportForYou:
** The film has yet to see a release in Japan.
** The film was not shown in all Arab world countries due to "cultural and commercial reasons".
* QueerCharacterQueerActor: Both Creator/BillyEichner and Creator/LukeMacfarlane are gay and play gay characters. In fact, every character with a speaking role (not counting celebrities cameoing as themselves) is played by an LGBT actor.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Creator/LiamHemsworth and Music/NickJonas were supposed to cameo as straight actors playing gay lovers in the ''Film/BrokebackMountain'' parody Bobby was ranting about, but Hemsworth was unable to leave Australia during the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic.
* WrittenByCastMember: Billy Eichner also co-wrote the film.
