Context Trivia / MinecraftStoryMode

Go To

* ActingForTwo: Creator/FredTatasciore voices Jack and [[spoiler:Fred]].
* ActorSharedBackground: Jason "jtop" Topolski briefly mentioned in an [[https://blog.playstation.com/2021/12/14/a-backstage-tour-of-freddy-fazbears-mega-pizzaplex-in-five-nights-freddys-security-breach/ interview]] that he was once an usher in his childhood, similar to his voice role of Usher Reuben.
* ApprovalOfGod: Eric Stirpe has stated in a recent Tumblr post that he fully approves of people making their own fanmade Season 3.
* AscendedFanon:
** The characters and animation style in the game look very similar to popular ''Minecraft'' animations, with the characters having a similar range of expression (but their faces move slightly differently in this game, looking more "stop-motion") and bendable limbs.
** Sky City is based on the popular [=SkyBlock=] game mode commonly found on multiplayer servers, [[spoiler:including the cobblestone generator most players usually build first.]]
* CastingGag: Throughout Episode 6, Dan's hair changes randomly, with a couple characters commenting on it. This is a reference to Dan changing his hair color regularly IRL, and modifying his ''Minecraft'' avatar accordingly when that happens. [[spoiler:In addition, if he's the one who dies third (only possible if Stampy is accused of being the White Pumpkin), then his inventory will include what appears to be an ''actual'' Diamond Minecart.]]
* CelebrityCameo: One of the stranger instances of this happening. Episode 6 of Story Mode features several [=YouTubers=], as well as original characters [=TorqueDawg=] and [=CassieRose=]. However, in an odd coincidence, there actually IS a [=YouTuber=], albeit a low-key ''VideoGame/{{Toontown|Online}}'' [=YouTuber=], with the username of "Cassie Rose", whose subscriber count has doubled since the episode came out. And she is finding this situation to be REALLY weird.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: ''In-game''. In Season 1 Episode 4, you come across some Prismarine ''Shards'' which are labeled as such, but when you click on them, the dialog calls them Prismarine ''Crystals''. Doubly glaring since Season 2 features both Shards ''and'' Crystals and correctly identifies which is which.
* CreatorBacklash: In a stream from 2021, Stampy has stated that he hates his voice acting in episode six, considering it extremely over the top and unnatural sounding.
* CreatorsFavorite: Eric Stirpe has said multiple times that his favourite characters to write for were Jack and Radar, although he also really liked Aiden and Soren.
* TheDanza:
** All of the [=YouTuber=] characters share names (or at least nicknames) with their voice actors, i.e. the content creators they're based on.
** Fred the admin shares his first name with his voice actor. According to [[WordOfGod Eric Stirpe]], he was named 'Fred' because it rhymed with 'dead'.
* DevelopmentGag: The Order of the Stone is actually an old subtitle for what would become ''Minecraft'', with the full title being "Minecraft: Order of the Stone".
* FandomNod:
** Some of the Redstone machines in Redstonia have actually been created in Minecraft proper, like the Redstone flying machine and mech.
** The Wither Storm's weakness brings to mind a popular player tactic that fairly easily nets a Nether Star. [[spoiler:Swarms of Endermen weaken the Wither Storm, much like how Withers, when spawned in the End, are outnumbered by Endermen, who can make very short work of it.]]
** Episode 7's PAMA is likely a nod to those who have successfully built redstone computers in Minecraft.
** Episode 8 features Spleef, a favored minigame of ''Minecraft'' players.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Likely as a consequence of Telltale Games going bust, this game was pulled from both physical and digital stores on June 29th, 2019. If you already had it purchased (and downloaded, if it's a digital copy), you can still play it, just without anything that involved cloud sync with Telltale servers. Those that didn't have it prior are now restricted to torrents.
* NoExportForYou: Unlike Season 2, which received a full localization, Season 1 was never released in Japan. This made Ivor's surprise return in Episode 4 somewhat of an AssPull in Season 2's Japanese dub, since he was only foreshadowed briefly in Episode 1, despite being a major character in Season 1.
* OrphanedReference: Shortly after you first arrive in her bunker, Harper mentions the possibility of reforming PAMA, but this idea is never brought up again. This is a remnant from when one of the endings of "Access Denied" would be PAMA having a HeelFaceTurn, but had to be cut for time constraints.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** No-nonsense and realistic Ivor has the same voice as [[Creator/PaulReubens Pee Wee Herman]].
** Creator/PattonOswalt does the vocal effects for [[EldritchAbomination The Wither Storm]].
* PostScriptSeason: Episodes 5-8 are this to the [[spoiler:Wither Storm crisis.]] To wit: [[spoiler:Jesse and their new Order of The Stone have spent an indeterminate amount of time after the death of the Wither Storm and Rueben, going on adventures. One of those adventures gives them an enchanted flint and steel, which opens a portal to a new world. After resolving the new world's issues, they suddenly find a large hall full of new portals and new worlds.]]
* PromotedFanboy: Episode 6 has several prominent [=YouTube-based=] Let's Players that specialize in Minecraft content as crucial supporting characters.
* ViralMarketing: The antagonist of "Access Denied", PAMA, has a Twitter account that promoted the episode before its trailer went up, and hinted at [[AssimilationPlot his overall goals]].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** It was decided relatively late into production to add a female Jesse. For a long time, there was only going to be a male Jesse.
** Lukas had an entirely different design in the original trailer, wearing a striped shirt, vest, and a nice hat. He also seems to be with the group from the beginning, as opposed to part of the Ocelots.
** Magnus's title was "Griefer" at a certain point rather than "Rogue", the change being presumably to fit into the naming convention of The Order of The Stone, as he's still identified as a Griefer when you meet him.
** The first trailer showed Otis the Butcher and the Ocelots getting ready to enter the Nether Portal with Jesse's gang, indicating that they may have been intended to play a larger role in the Wither Storm arc.
** The choice in episode five where Jesse can save the Founder or back up Lukas went through two different drafts. Originally, ''both'' Jesse and the Founder would be dangling over the edge, and you had to choose whether to help her up or just save yourself. They changed it because, no matter what you did, both Jesse and Isa would fall over the edge, which they didn't feel was a satisfying decision. It was reworked into the Founder and Lukas being over the edge, and Jesse had to pick who to save. However, this was changed as well, because ''everyone'' was picking Lukas.
** In Season 1 Episode 6, "A Portal to Mystery", there was apparently a death scene planned for Stacy Plays, but she was SparedByTheCut due to an insufficient budget.
** One of the endings for "Access Denied" was going to be PAMA having a HeelFaceTurn, but this version had to be cut for time constraints.
** A lot more was supposed to happen is Season 2, but got cut due to budget restrictions or other reasons. Em would've appeared if you chose to convince her to come back with you, [=DanTDM=] or Lizzie would've appeared depending on who survived "A Portal to Mystery", and Lukas probably wouldn't have been absent from Episodes 3 and 4 if not for his voice actor becoming a father at that time. Also, they were hoping to do a flashback sequence featuring Romeo, Fred and Xara, all in their Admin forms, but it was cut for time constraints.
* WordOfSaintPaul: The various [[MythologyGag references]] to the [[WebVideo/StampysLovelyWorld Lovely World]] are interpreted by Stampy the [=YouTuber=] to be built because his character felt homesick, according to his Let's Play. However, according to [[WordOfGod Eric Stirpe]], the MCSM incarnations of Stampy and Stacy permanently moved to Beacontown -- according to the game, for "the thrill of adventure". This is either [[FlipFlopOfGod a contradiction between the creators involved]], or implies [[HeroOfAnotherStory there's something going on with MCSM Stampy]] that canon refuses to elaborate on.
