* BannedInChina: The site was banned in Indonesia in 2010 and has stayed that way since due to the total freedom and lack of filtering of offensive and NSFW content. Later, in 2018, India banned the website for the same reasons, first on the heavily promoted Jio internet service provider, then on all devices.
* FandomLifeCycle: Stage X. The release of ''VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin'' brought renewed interest in Newgrounds as a whole.
* {{Feelies}}: The Newgrounds store can be seen as this. It was finally closed down in 2013 due to it taking up too much space and starting to cost too much to keep a physical store in their building. While the store itself is closed, the staff still give away or sell stuff that did not manage to get sold at events or during contents on occasion.
* HumbleBeginnings: Some of the {{Promoted Fanboy}}s who got their start here include: Creator/KiraBuckland, [[Creator/SeanChiplock sonicmega]], Creator/{{Egoraptor}}, WebVideo/{{Smosh}}, xKore, FDA, etc.
* InMemoriam: The site wiki has a [[https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/about-newgrounds/history/in-memoriam dedicated page]] for the many, many contributors who have died over the years.
* NewbieBoom:
** When Website/{{Tumblr}} issued a ban on all NSFW content in November-December of 2018, Newgrounds found itself the refuge for artists driven off the site, hitting record highs in active users. So many people joined, that the servers crashed trying to keep up.
** The immense popularity of ''VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin'' brought a large amount of new users to the site as well, with the release of Week 7 also [[DemandOverload causing the servers to crash from sheer traffic]].
* ScrewedByTheLawyers:
** Around 2015, various older movies and games began to be removed to avoid copyright claims against the site and to encourage the use of original music from the Audio Portal.
** Almost every Super Mario related game was removed during the period where Nintendo sent out Cease and Desist orders to numerous websites hosting Super Mario games before the release of VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker.
** Early on in the site's history, a ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' parody movie called ''You're a Raging Psychopath, Snarlie Brown!'' by user Evil Dave nearly bankrupted Tom Fulp and Newgrounds. The Creator/UnitedFeatureSyndicate kept sending him e-mails which he ignored and mocked, until he found out that they weren't bluffing -- he was going to get hit with serious legal charges. He tried to negotiate by adding a beard on Snarlie and adding a few more changes, but it wasn't enough. Under the risk of having to enter a drawn-out legal battle, he settled out of court with them and removed the video, which wasn't publicly seen again until 2011, when the original version was reuploaded without incident.
* TechnologyMarchesOn: Newgrounds staff had to [[https://tomfulp.newgrounds.com/news/post/1049598 come up with in-house solutions]] to preserve their massive archive of Flash animations and games, as Adobe ended up dropping support for Flash at the end of 2020 in favor of Adobe Animate.
