* BannedEpisode: This episode was stricken from the airwaves in the aftermath of the 1997 "Pokémon Shock" incident, and hasn't been aired anywhere else ever since. 4Kids was never sent a copy so it was never dubbed.
* BuryYourArt: Creator/TVTokyo permanently pulled the episode from circulation after its one and only airing, which infamously caused 685 viewers in Japan to be ambulanced for possible epileptic seizures.
* CreatorBacklash: One that affected the ''entire'' anime industry and indeed the ''Pokémon'' franchise as a whole, as the episode was never seen on television again and its impact on anime production to avoid a repeat of the incident has been lasting. Porygon and its evolutionary line were also never allowed to appear on the show again, outside of small cameos in a few of the movies.
* CreatorKiller: This episode's animation director, Takayuki Shimura, understandably saw his career badly damaged by the seizures. He never worked on the main series again, and wouldn't work on another animated series until 2009's ''Anime/{{Tamagotchi}}''.
* FlipFlopOfGod: On whether or not an English dub was ever made, with the answer varying wildly depending on who's being asked. Though the likelihood of 4Kids getting sent a copy of such an infamous episode is pretty low so most tend to believe the accounts that a dub was never made.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Let's see. The episode only aired ''once'' in the late 90s [[NoExportForYou exclusively in Japan]] and had nearly 700 people being ambulanced, but only 150 actually passed hospital admissions. Needless to say, there have been no reruns or official home video releases of this episode. Bootleg recordings of the episode survive online despite Nintendo and the Pokémon Company's efforts to wipe it from the record.
