* ActorAllusion:
** Amanda was once [[Manga/LuckyStar another grumpy, pigtailed schoolgirl]], only then she was much easier on the eyes.
** Creator/JeremyRowley (Bunsen) and Creator/JerryTrainor (Commander Cone) respectively played Lewbert and Spencer on ''Series/ICarly''.
** Creator/TaraStrong [[WesternAnimation/The7D once again]] plays the tooth fairy.
* ArtShift: ''Bunsen'' marks a notable change in Butch Hartman's art style, which is usually more angular in nature. This show is also Hartman's first cartoon to completely be animated in UsefulNotes/AdobeFlash, whereas his previous shows were animated traditionally (except for the last 13 ''Fairly [=OddParents=]'' episodes).
* CelebrityVoiceActor: We have Jeremy Rowley and Ben Giroux as Bunsen and Mikey.
* CrossdressingVoices:
** This was going to be the case with Mikey, as mentioned under What Could Have Been, but he ended up being voiced by the male Ben Giroux.
** It is however played straight with a young goth boy, who's voiced by Jennifer Hale.
* DawsonCasting: Once again, we have teen and preteen characters voiced by adults
* DuelingShows: With Disney Junior's ''WesternAnimation/{{Vampirina}}'', another show about a supernatural somebody trying to fit into human society.
* OutOfOrder:
** The episode "Bunsen is a Beast!" premiered as the first segment of the second episode, but is clearly intended to be where the series begins due to depicting Bunsen's first day of school as well as his first meetings with Mikey and Amanda.
** "The Boy Who Cried Wolfie" was incidentally supposed to air before "Beast Halloween Ever", as the former has Mikey meeting Wolfie for the first time and the latter has Wolfie's appearance treated as nothing special.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: By June 2017, most of the reruns had moved to Nicktoons while the main channel still aired new episodes.
** Nickelodeon only aired the show for TEN months; it moved to Nicktoons in December 2017.
** There were multiple occasions the show had episodes pulled on Nickelodeon, including the Christmas special and many premieres over the summer.
** The final insult came when [[https://youtu.be/m4faDISwSVo Butch Hartman explained that the show was meant to last for only one season, as he would be leaving Nickelodeon after spending 20 years working with them]].
** The finale aired with no promotion and [[FridayNightDeathSlot late at night]], almost as if Nick was trying to bury the show completely after Hartman had left.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Butch Hartman originally conceived the premise for a picture book, until a higher-up at Nickelodeon suggested pitching it as a cartoon.
** In early artwork and footage for the series, Mikey had a different shirt, blue eyes, and was played by Maile Flanagan, the voice of [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Naruto Uzumaki]].
