* "The Longer Walk Home" from ''The Wishing Spell'' is in and of itself a great big HumiliationConga for Alex and Conner, and actually quite hard to read. If you can relate it becomes much worse. And it was '''''chapter two''''', no less. [[spoiler:Alex and Connor come home to realize that [[ItMakesSenseInContext their house has finally been sold]], and we learn about their father's demise a year prior in a car crash. He would never get to celebrate Alex and Conner's eleventh birthday, ''which was mere days later.'']] Ouch.
-->[[spoiler:"The twins and their mother had been anxiously waiting for him at the dinner table when they got the phone call telling them their father wouldn't be joining them that night, or any night after that."]]
** [[spoiler:"They didn't remember their eleventh birthday, because no one did."]]
** [[spoiler:Not only that, but their mother had work on their twelfth birthday.]] You can feel her devastation when the kids say that they weren't expecting much anyway.
** [[spoiler:They also forgot their own fifteenth birthday due to the Masked Man's takeover and the ensuing chaos.]]
* In the fifth book, ''An Author's Odyssey'', both Alex and Charlotte's reactions to Conner's short stories. Alex believes that the reason the youngest Zibling feels inferior to his siblings is because of something that she said to Conner herself when they were younger, while Charlotte worries that she has been a horrible, neglectful parent to the twins since the death of their father, since none of the characters in any of his short stories has a mother figure (the closest being one character living with his great-aunt, who is based on Mother Goose). However, Conner assures both his sister and his mother that they are simply looking too deeply into his stories, and that both have influenced more positive characters in his stories as well.
* The prologue of book 6, ''Worlds Collide'', is bittersweet at best, to say the least. Yes, Conner [[spoiler:married Bree, has children and even grandchildren, and is also a world-famous author.]] Unfortunately, by this point, [[spoiler:Bree is dead, Conner's rapidly losing his memory, and it's revealed that he has no memory of seeing Alex since the two were teenagers]].
