* JackassGenie: Pandora. As explained by Ceal in Act V chapter 29, he once wished for the dragon Fafnir to die "by his hand." Pandora granted the wish by severing Ceal's left hand, so he would only have the one hand to kill Fafnir with, and then making it so Fafnir can only be killed by Ceal.
* Jawbreaker: During his combination NoHoldsBarredBeatdown[=/=]ExtremeMeleeRevenge against Miyabi for raping Mizore, Dark punches him in the face with such force that Miyabi's jawbone snaps clean off.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** Arial leans pretty far into the "jerk" side of the spectrum in several parts of Act VI. She undeniably cares for Dark, but is insistent that Mizore is nowhere near good enough for Dark and has no qualms against informing Mizore as such in as much of a jerkish way as possible. Regardless, she's a fundamentally good person, and was one of the first monsters to be accepted into Heaven. As of the first chapter of Act VII, she's begun to soften up a bit to Mizore, giving her a genuine thank you when Mizore comforts her over Complica's death; in fact, one of the main reasons Arial agrees to give Mizore a fair chance to prove herself worthy of Dark is because it was Complica's LastRequest.
** Ceal Erres is a bit of a jerk, and has to be outright begged to heal Dark when he's hit by a car, but regardless, he is a good person and in love with Falla, even if he can't bring himself to actually say it because of his upbringing, even becoming a big brother figure to Complica.
** Dark also has shades of this; it's noted in Act III that he can barely get through shop class without subjecting a bully to one of the power tools, and, due to his stoicness, tends to come across as cold and uncaring. Despite this, he's a good person and a perfect gentleman.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk:
** The original Falla appears to be reforming for a few chapters in Act IV, becoming friends with Kyouko and Tsukune's posse, which eventually convinces Luna to finish the spell to give her her powers back. The minute Luna does so, Falla immediately slices Luna in half and reveals that she was just pretending to reform to trick Luna into finishing the spell, rubbing in their faces how stupid they were to think that her actions were ever anything more than an act.
** Arial often dips into this towards Mizore throughout Act VI. There's a particular moment in chapter 42, where she has an initial moment of bonding with Mizore, talking about how Dark was when she first saw him... and then goes right back to badmouthing and dissing Mizore, giving her a brutal TheReasonYouSuckSpeech about how she considers her not worthy of Dark.
* Jerkass:
** Jenner Rythmore, head of the Human Defense Agency. He doesn't even try to hide his open disdain and distrust for monsters, and outright states he's just waiting for an excuse to declare open war on them. While he is looking out for humanity, he could at least try to be less of a dick about it.
** While they were always, for the most part, a bunch of bullies and Alpha Bitches, the other students in Act III take this to a new level because of their disbelief in the rumors that Tsukune and co. fought off Fairy Tale by themselves, viewing them as Attention Whores; it actually gets to the point that Felucia openly suggests to the others that the gang just stand back and let Kuyou kill them all when he makes his move. However, when they discover that the rumors were true when Tsukune and co. fight off Kuyou, and then a Fairy Tale armada, right in front of them, the other students have a big-time JerkassRealization.
** To describe the original Falla as a massive bitch would be an understatement. For example, she deliberately neglected to inform Complica that using the Chrono Displacement spell would kill her, and that's just for starters.
** The original Jovian and Jacqueline who served Hokuto. Even at their "nicest," they're nothing but heartless bitches who absolutely delight in causing pain and mass destruction wherever they go.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** In Act III chapter 7, Dark actually does make a valid point when he expresses his doubts that Tsukune can't hold the ghoul off forever even with the Holy Lock, especially considering that the ghoul had previously influenced Tsukune's actions before without Tsukune knowing it; since he had already trusted Tsukune before to keep the ghoul contained only for Tsukune to fail, why should he trust him to do so again?
** When Yukari is in denial over her feelings for Ahakon in Act III and insists she belongs to Moka and Tsukune, Kokoa points out to her in a tactless way that no one ever objected to her dream to have a threesome with them because they knew she never stood a chance at doing so. Despite the way she says it, Yukari acknowledges she has a point.
** In Act IV chapters 2 and 3, while everyone else is spending their time lambasting the ReformedButRejected Akua and Kahlua and outright asking why they should forgive them for their crimes under Fairy Tale, Dark is quick to remind them that he was a member of Fairy Tale once as well, and if they can forgive and accept him for his actions back then, then they should at least give Akua and Kahlua a fair chance; when Kurumu points out that Dark never went as far as to try to destroy the world like Kahlua and Akua did, Dark then reminds them that he was forced to kill an innocent child, which is just as bad.
-->Inner Moka: I hate it when he makes a point like that.
** In Act IV, both the original Falla and Hokuto point out to the others that Yokai Academy's teachings on peace are more about simply hiding in fear from the humans than actually co-existing with them. Despite both being AxCrazy Sadists, and in Hokuto's case, a StrawNihilist who seeks to wipe out all life on Earth, they make a valid point, especially since at one point, Ms. Nekonome herself mentions that any humans who enter the monster world will be KilledToUpholdTheMasquerade, and monsters must hide their true forms when among the humans or be killed themselves.
** Hex gets such a moment in Act VI when the others are getting on his case about his AbsurdlyHighStakesGame. As he points out, they have no problems with what he does as long as they're winning and they get something favorable out of it, but the minute they lose, they accuse him of being evil and rigging the game.
* JerkassRealization:
** In Act III chapter 44, the entire student body undergoes one at the sight of Yukari nearly killing herself to protect them from Fairy Tale. After they spent most of the act harassing and taunting Tsukune and co., believing them to be fakers claiming to fight Fairy Tale for attention, the realization that Tsukune's group is willingly risking their lives to save them all from Fairy Tale even after how badly they treated them hits the other students like a ton of bricks, and galvanizes them into jumping into the fray to help fight them off.
** In Act VI chapter 47, Render criticizes a member of the [=HDA=] for trying to shoot and kill monster kids even if he was JustFollowingOrders. He promptly apologizes when the soldier reveals that, kids or not, the monsters responsible for the school attack killed his daughter.
* JerkassToOne: Arial is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, and tends to be snippy and bitchy to everyone save for Dark, Felucia, Sun, and Complica. She's especially a Jerkass to Mizore, and spends most of Act VI making things difficult for her and being rude and bitchy even as Mizore is trying to be nice to her, to the extent she completely blows it off when Mizore saves her life.
* JekyllAndHyde: In Acts II and III, Tsukune's ghoul is stated on more than one occasion to be a representation of his dark side.
* JustAKid: In Act III chapter 43, one Fairy Tale operative states that it shouldn't be a problem capturing Tsukune, Moka, and Kokoa because of this trope. Another operative is quick to remind him that the kids in question are the same ones who brought down their operations in Ashton City during Act II.
* JustFollowingOrders:
** In Act I chapter 30, Rarosun and Surason invoke this when they reveal their DivideAndConquer plan, though it doesn't stop them from taking sadistic pleasure in watching Dark and Rason fight each other while mocking Kurumu and Mizore for falling for their trick.
** Subverted in Act II; while Dark explains to Tsurara that he was just following orders when he and his original master attacked the Snow Woman Village years before, he knows it doesn't excuse his actions.
** In Act V chapter 10, this is Rin, Ran, and Ren's explanation for why they charmed most of the male student body for Babylon. Even then, they are extremely conflicted.
** In Act VI chapter 47, when Render is understandably uncomfortable with having to work alongside the [=HDA=] after they were nearly executed, the soldiers point out that they were following orders, just as they are now.
* JustJokingJustification: In Act III chapter 6, Akua and Kahlua remark that, in order for Kokoa to truly regain her damaged pride, she will have to be a slave to Tsukune in every sense of the word, including sexually. Then they reveal it was just a joke; the gang is not amused.
* JustToyingWithThem: Ghoul!Tsukune does this with the others when he first appears in Act II. The fact that he's taking the time to do so instead of just killing them right then and there is the first sign that he's not a normal ghoul.
* KarmaHoudini: By the end of Act III, Hokuto and the Kikion sisters have gotten off scot-free for setting up Kuyou's attack on Yokai Academy and enslaving Felucia to do their bidding. In Act IV? Not so much.
* KarmicDeath:
** In Act II, after raping Mizore and then taunting Dark about it, Miyabi gets his ass kicked and is literally torn limb from limb.
** In Act III chapter 31, just as Kano is about to rape Mizore, he's killed by Luna, one of the girls he planned to rape as well.
** After having personally murdered the original Apoch in Act III, Jovian is slain by Apoch's AlternateTimeline replacement in Act IV chapter 29.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: According to Mizore in Act VI chapter 15, a katana is Dark's favorite weapon.
* KentBrockmanNews:
** In Act VI chapter 25, a male reporter shows up on the scene as Moka and co. are being held at gunpoint by the [=HDA=], openly lambasting monsters and practically egging the soldiers on to execute them on the spot.
** Akia Akiane, a reporter who has been seen reporting on monster attacks, has shades of this. In Act VI chapter 52, she starts going on about her Facebook and Twitter accounts and promoting her own autobiography before a fellow reporter calls her back to attention.
* KickTheDog:
** In Act II, Miyabi extorts Mizore for sex in exchange for sparing Tsurara's life, and the minute he's finished, orders Tsurara's execution regardless while mocking Mizore for actually believing he'd keep his end of the bargain.
** In Acts III and IV, Hokuto forces Felucia to aid him in his plans while letting Jovian and Jacqueline use her as their sexual plaything.
** Also in Act III, the very first thing Kuyou does upon his arrival at Yokai is burn Astreal to death. During his fight with the gang, he even takes the time out to incinerate several non-combatants.
** In Act III chapter 46, having found out that Hokuto has enslaved Felucia, Kiria takes the time to mock Dark over his failure to save her. To twist the knife even further, he remarks that Mizore "must feel so safe" with him since he failed to save both Arial and Felucia.
** Befitting their twisted personalities, Hokuto's Jovian and Jacqueline live to pull off as much puppy-punting as they can. Such gems include raping and torturing Felucia to the point of SanitySlippage, shooting the original Apoch dead in cold blood right in front of Tsukune and Ruby, raping Tsukune's cousin Kyouko and then bragging about it to Tsukune over the phone, and casually blowing up Tsukune's house right in front of him. To really drive the point home, in all of their major fights with Tsukune and co. in Acts IV and V, they deliberately go above and beyond to kill as many innocent people and cause as much collateral damage as possible simply because they can.
** A literal example in Act VI chapter 10; Ceal reveals that, while Fang Fang's dog was out, Ceal found him and fed him to Xarai, even tauntingly presenting him with said dog's collar. In a subversion, it's revealed that Fang Fang always hated the dog to the extent that he actually thanks Ceal and Xarai for doing so.
* KillItWithFire: Of a sort; Xarai can't actually be killed by fire, but it does cause him discomfort.
* KillItWithWater: Played straight with vampires, but averted with witches. In Act VI chapter 42, while bathing with Ruby, Yukari, and the Ezrana sisters, Kyouko mentions that she thought water caused witches to melt, leading to this:
-->Ruby: Yeah, I'm still lost as to how all those stories about us came to be.\
Yukari: They got the part about vampires and water right. No idea where they're getting the rest of it from.
* KirkSummation: In Act IV chapter 24, Moka sums up Hokuto:
-->Moka: You kidnap and brainwash our friend, you set Kuyou down upon us, you used us like toys... all so you can destroy the world with Alucard? All I see before me is a misguided fool that is going to be cast down into Hell.
* KissingUnderTheInfluence: Upon being infected by part of the ghoul in Tsukune's body during Act III, Kokoa forces herself on Tsukune.
* KnightTemplar:
** The angels come across this in regards to monsters throughout the first three acts. As far as they're concerned, humans are good and monsters are evil, no exceptions. It's to the extent that despite full knowledge that Hokuto plans to resurrect Alucard and destroy the world, they cannot/will not interfere because even if he is a monster now, Hokuto WasOnceAMan and thus still recognized as a human by the angels; thus, he still falls under the angels' ThouShaltNotKillMuggles rule. When Rason objects to that, the angels all decide to execute him, calling him a "filthy traitor" and declaring him to have been corrupted by the monsters. Before they can do that, the Almighty himself intervenes, having been touched by Rason's willingness to die for his belief that monsters can be good souls as well. Even then, one member of the angels' council objects and implores the Almighty to reconsider; Gabriel promptly shuts him up, reminding him that the Almighty's word is absolute.
** Hokuto Kaneshiro. He commits all manner of horrible atrocities purely for the endgame of resurrecting Alucard and watching him destroy all life on Earth, simply because he believes that all life is evil, meaningless trash, and repeatedly declares that all of his actions are for a higher cause.
** Talon Ryashen, the "Fairy Tale killer." He was turned into a SuperSoldier by Fairy Tale, and is now on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge against anyone who was ever a part of the organization. It doesn't matter if said members defected, were LockedOutOfTheLoop, or non-combatants; if they were even remotely a part of Fairy Tale, they're on his hit list. Case in point: despite knowing that Dark left Fairy Tale a long time ago and is one of the heroes who slew Alucard, Talon flat-out states that he doesn't care; all that matters is that Dark was a member of Fairy Tale, and thus is irredeemably evil in his eyes. Akua and Kahlua state outright in Act VI chapter 13 that if Talon gets into the human world, he'll go on a killing spree and end up only making monsters look worse to humanity.
** Fairy Tale themselves. For all of their claims on monster equality, they're more focused on anti-human extremism to the point that any monster who even thinks of siding with humanity is automatically the enemy; they have personally destroyed Ahakon's hometown for refusing to side with them, and tried to do the same to Mizore's hometown twice, on top of attempting to destroy Yokai Academy for teaching coexistence. In fact, in Act VI chapter 52, after seeing Moka preach human/monster coexistence on national television, both Gairen and Raika openly state that they're beginning to see why Gyokuro hates Moka so much.
** The [=HDA=] is this throughout Act V and most of Act VI, given their AggressiveCategorism of all monsters as evil beasts. In Act V chapter 23, Marin explicitly describes their treatment of monsters as inhuman, and in Act VI chapter 25, Moka outright declares them to be nothing but a barrier in any efforts to attempt peace between humans and monsters, since they, in her words, "treat all monsters as absolute evils regardless of their nature." As of the end of Act VI, they've finally grown out of this, in part due to a ReasonableAuthorityFigure in their new director, Hothorne Tamaka.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: In Act III chapter 9, after Kokoa, using her overcharge, has just jumped into water without ill effect to toss Kurumu out of the boys' bathtub, Mizore, not about to test her luck, quickly gets out of the tub and exits the building willingly.
* KungFuSonicBoom:
** To throw off her SuperpowerMeltdown in Act II, Kokoa attacks Tsukune's ghoul form with a Megaton Kick, the force of which blows apart the entire side of the house next to the group, turns the snow around them to steam, sends rocks and rubble flying, and knocks everybody flying.
** In Act IV, a fully vampirized Tsukune's FinishingMove on Hokuto produces one that smashes a massive crater in the ground, causes a building to collapse, and completely obliterates Hokuto.
* LackOfEmpathy:
** Nagare Kano, hands down. In Act III, he blackmails the girls of Tsukune's group into letting him take dirty pictures of them, smugly brushes off any damage he causes or threats he makes, and outright calls them his toys when he tries to rape them.
** Jovian and Jacqueline display this masterfully, as shown in Jovian's merciless execution of Apoch in Act III chapter 41. Rason even outright states in Act IV chapter 24 that the two have no regard for the lives of others. In Act V, when Render and Leon call Jovian out for killing innocent humans in the school who had nothing to do with their fight, Jovian coldly responds, "You speak as if I care."
*** However, this only applies to the original Jovian and Jacqueline who worked for Hokuto; the re-summoned sisters in Act VI who serve Talon are considerably more sympathetic to others.
** Having been the Kikions' original master, Hokuto is just as much disregard for life as they do. Throughout his screen time, he repeatedly blows off any and all pain and anguish he causes, insisting that it's all for a "higher cause." His idea of causing a distraction while he breaks into Yokai Academy's secured levels to steal an ArtifactOfDoom is setting Kuyou loose on the academy, and his idea of proving a point to Moka that human/monster coexistence is a fool's dream is by deliberately breaking TheMasquerade and trying to get Tsukune and co. killed by humans while making Moka watch. On top of it all, he is an adamant nihilist who considers all forms of life, human or monster, to be meaningless trash.
** Hex has little concern for the affairs of lesser beings. In Act VI chapter 52, the group chews him out for not willingly helping Complica even though it's in his power to do so, with Fang Fang telling him in disgust that lesser beings or not, at least they understand the value of life whereas he does not. Hex casually responds that it's not that he doesn't understand, it's just that he doesn't care.
** Evil!Falla has a disregard for other people's lives that borders on sociopathic, openly comparing everyone around her to worms and ants and having done such things as send her own little sister Complica to her death ForTheEvulz. She even openly states that nothing matters to her more than power, not even her own family.
* LadykillerInLove: World-class HandsomeLech Gin ends up in a relationship with Kokoa as the fic goes on.
* LaserBlade: From Act IV onwards, Apoch can form two barriers, one of which takes on this form.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** In Act III chapter 23, Apoch and Astreal, proving themselves to be Clingy Jealous Girls over Ahakon, spend the entire chapter acting like complete bitches to the other girls in the group, deliberately getting them kicked out of Ms. Nekonome's class and going so far as to try to murder Yukari, only failing in doing so thanks to Luna. Afterwards, Tsukune unleashes Inner Moka, who is anything but pleased at the Ezranas for their actions and proceeds to beat the ever-loving shit out of them. In the next chapter, they end up picking another fight with Yukari, causing Ahakon to do exactly what they tried to prevent: break up with them in favor of Yukari.
** After sexually abusing Felucia and Kyouko, blowing up Tsukune's house, and causing all manner of trouble, Jovian and Jacqueline are dead by the end of Act IV. To put the icing on the cake, in Hell, Felucia, their former victim, is the one who tortures them... and she is very eager to pay them back.
** After his death in Act III, Kuyou is shown in Act IV chapter 34 being tortured in Hell by Kenzo and his gang, whom Kuyou had killed during the events of Act III.
** In Act VI chapter 52, during the baseball game, Arial yells "Swing!" while Mizore is up to bat, causing Mizore to reflexively swing and get two strikes. Arial is promptly warned not to do so again by Rason and Gabriel, but ends up getting hit in the head with the ball when Mizore hits it. Though Mizore insists it wasn't intentional, considering the fact that Arial had spent the entire fic belittling Mizore and treating her like scum, one could easily agree that karma caught up to her.
* LastOfHisKind: Luna and Falla are the only living chronoflies left.
* LastRequest: In Act VI chapter 52, as Complica is about to perish as a result of the Chrono Displacement spell's cost, she asks Arial to at least give Mizore a fair chance, as she and Dark are truly in love; Arial agrees, if only because Complica is her best friend.
* LawfulStupid:
** Some vampire laws, such as the Eia Dreahl, come across as this. In Act III chapter 14, after a possessed Kokoa has her way with Tsukune, both Kokoa and Moka state that it doesn't matter whether or not Kokoa was in control of herself at the time; she still mated with Tsukune either way and broke the pact. If Dark hadn't exploited a loophole to get her off the hook, Kokoa would have been executed for something she had no control over.
** In the first chapter of Act IV, the minute Issa finds out that Kokoa and Moka accidentally turned Tsukune into a ghoul, he starts physically attacking them along with Akua and Kahlua, furious that they didn't do their vampire duty and kill said ghoul on sight while all but openly dismissing the fact that they managed to cure him.
** In Act IV chapter 16, Rason accuses the other angels as such, considering the fact that Hokuto is actively trying to resurrect Alucard and destroy the world, and they're not lifting a finger to stop him because, even if he is now a monster and regardless of how evil he is now, Hokuto was born human and thus, the angels' ThouShaltNotKillMuggles rule still applies to him until he actually dies with sin. Yes, that's right: the angels in Heaven are willing to let Hokuto revive an ancient EldritchAbomination and wipe out all life on Earth because their laws insist that all humans, even ones as deranged and evil as Hokuto, are sacred and cannot be touched.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
** Tsukune has made quips about how their lives have become like a manga or an anime at least twice. Both occasions result in a PopculturalOsmosisFailure on Dark's end.
** While telling Mrs. Aono and Kyouko about everything that's been going on in Act IV, Kyouko remarks, "This is better than any fan fiction I've read online."
** In Act V, after questioning why all of the new students end up in Ms. Nekonome's class, Rason remarks, "It's like a friggin' plot device or something."
* LesserOfTwoEvils: In Act VI, the group decides that they have a better chance at succeeding at getting a wish from Pandora's Box rather than playing Hex's game because, even if Pandora has a reputation as a JackassGenie, they view defeating her pets as a better alternative to playing Hex's game and hoping to get lucky.
* LetMeAtHim: In Act VI chapter 44, Mizore gets so furious at Arial for her jerkassery that Felucia has to physically restrain her from attacking Arial twice.
* LethalChef:
** In cooking class, Rason often sets his pots on fire. In Act II chapter 4, his attempt at making spaghetti and meatballs results in a giant green blob that actually appears to be moving.
-->Kurumu: So... can I try it?\
Rason: I wouldn't if I were you.
** During Act IV chapter 34, Yukari's attempt at making stew somehow results in a giant BlobMonster that can fling HollywoodAcid.
-->Yukari: I'm sorry. I must have used too much magic with my stew.\
Kurumu: How did you even make that from stew?!\
Luna: Your cooking's going to kill Ahakon if it doesn't kill us all first!
* LethallyStupid: Arial throughout most Act VI, due to her single-minded obsession with Dark. As a direct result of said obsession, as well as her blatant refusal to accept that Dark doesn't love her like that, she causes the group a lot of unnecessary trouble, culminating in her driving Dark to a nervous breakdown and causing him to get near-fatally hit by a car.
* LiteralCliffhanger: In Act III chapter 8, Tsukune and Dark's brief fight leads to the cliff they were standing on giving way. Tsukune manages to catch hold of a rock and hold both himself and Dark up. Unfortunately, the rock can't support their combined weight and begins to give way, but Moka, Kokoa, Mizore, and Felucia work together to pull both boys up.
* LiteralMetaphor: In Act VI chapter 35, while explaining why they don't want Talon to free them from their servitude to him, Jovian and Jacqueline say that they'll die without him. Talon assumes that they're just being dramatic, until they explain that part of their summoning spell includes a curse that will eventually kill them unless they have a master to serve.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** When Dark was a part of Fairy Tale, he was kept in the dark about their anti-human agenda, discovering it when he learned they planned to destroy Yokai Academy for teaching the students to peacefully co-exist with humans.
** Rason believed that the Holy Lock was one-of-a-kind, only to discover otherwise in Act IV chapter 16 when the angels produce two more Holy Locks to restrain Luna and Falla. He also discovers that even before Rason saved Luna from a rapist that night, the angels had been watching over her and knew she was a monster all along.
** Neither Moka nor Kokoa know much about their long-lost mothers, both of whom disappeared on them when they were little. It can be assumed that Issa has kept the circumstances of their disappearances secret from them, but likely for their own good.
** In Act VI chapter 44, Felucia remarks that Kokoa has a serious attitude problem, considering her attack on Sun has left her essentially brain dead, and gloats that her mother won't be happy. When Kokoa responds with confusion, that's when it hits Felucia and the others that they never actually told Kokoa about Akasha's returnOn top of it all, Akasha isn't actually Kokoa's birth mother.
* LoopholeAbuse:
** In Act II, Kokoa, having fallen in love with Tsukune herself, invokes the Eia Dreahl, a sacred vampire pact that is punishable by death if broken, to see whether or not herself or Moka would be his mate. When they tell the others as such, they fail to specify that the pact was only supposed to be between the two of them, only stating that "the first girl to give Tsukune a nosebleed wins." Yukari promptly seizes this opportunity, with predictable results.
** Likewise, Inner Moka also realizes that the pact didn't actually specify how Tsukune was supposed to get a nosebleed, only that he did get one, and thus wins by punching Tsukune in the face and giving him a bloody nose.
** When Kokoa inadvertently breaks the Eia Dreahl by sleeping with Tsukune while possessed, Dark saves her from execution by pointing out that Inner Moka won the pact, but it was Outer Moka who actually mated with Tsukune. Since the two are a SplitPersonality and Inner Moka didn't actually break the pact, the agreement is null and void and thus no one has to die. When speculating why Dark didn't bring up the loophole until now, both Mokas decide that he either did so to keep Kokoa in line, or because he just didn't care either way.
** In Act III, the headmaster warns Tsukune and co. that if they get in another fight with the students at school, they'll all be separated. In chapter 30, one of the bullies, having heard of this, uses it to his advantage by groping Felucia in class, gloating to them all that if they say or do anything to stop him, he'll just tell the headmaster they're bugging him and get them in trouble. Dark ends up cracking his desk clutching it too hard and convinces Ms. Nekonome to take the bully in question with him to the supply closet, allegedly to help him carry the new desk back; while they're out, Dark dupes the bully into groping Apoch, leading Astreal to go BigSisterInstinct on him and send him to the infirmary. While the headmaster said they can't fight back against the bullies, he didn't say anything about Astreal defending herself and Apoch.
** In the end of Act III, Tsukune uses the Chrono Displacement spell to rewind time by a day and save his friends from death, dooming himself to die by 10:45 PM the next day. When the time comes, however, Tsukune's ghoul form was in control of his body, and since it had its own identity and personality, the ghoul was killed instead, leaving Tsukune alive and cured of its influence.
** In Act IV chapter 16, the Almighty, having changed His views on monsters due to Rason's willingness to die for his belief, pulls this off by naming Rason the angel of the monster world. While angels follow a strict ThouShaltNotKillMuggles rule, which also applies to monsters that were once human like Hokuto, Rason, being the monster world's guardian angel, has free reign to deal with monsters of all sorts as he sees fit; thus, Rason can intervene and confront Hokuto.
** In Act V, Babylon goes back on his word to set the Otonashi sisters free because they missed Razico when they charmed the student body, the deal being that they charm everyone who defeated Alucard. Of course, he then remarks that he probably wouldn't have let them go even if they had done so.
* TheLostLenore: Leon's late lover Selena, who was killed by a gang of rival treasure hunters after they retrieved the final key to Pandora's Box. Leon seeks to open the Box so Selena didn't die in vain.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Rason falls in love with Kurumu from the minute he sees her.
* LoveBeforeFirstSight: As revealed in Act IV chapter 30, Felucia became infatuated with Dark before she even met him by reading over his file at Fairy Tale.
* LoveHurts:
** Luna has had bad luck with boys. First, she's infatuated with Rason because he saved her, but Rason is with Kurumu and only loves her. Then, she falls in love with Hex after he saves her from Babylon's dungeon, only to once again suffer heartbreak when Hex admits that he only saved Luna for his own purposes and doesn't actually care about her. By the time of Act VI chapter 46, when she finds herself attracted to Gabriel, she's terrified of going along with it because she's afraid of getting her heart broken again.
** Mizore gets it especially hard in Act VI. Even after accepting her role as Dark's mother figure/guardian angel, Arial still hates her and openly disapproves of her relationship with Dark, to the extent of actively controlling his love life and openly favoring him marrying Felucia over her; it's not helped by the fact that Felucia keeps unintentionally showing Mizore up and making Arial root for her to marry Dark even more. At the end of Act VI, however, Arial agrees to give Mizore a fair chance as per Complica's LastRequest.
* LoveIsAWeakness: Ceal came to believe that love and compassion are weaknesses after his little sister was fatally hit by a truck while trying to save a human child, remarking that his sister could have been a great doctor someday, but threw it all away because of her compassion for others.
* LoveIsInTheAir: Act VI chapter 20 reveals that Ahakon is surrounded by a charming aura, which is in part why Ran and the original Ezrana twins fell for him.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy:
** Yukari's Love Struck Potion, seen in both Act I and IV, is specifically designed to make whoever uses it crazy with love.
** Apoch and Astreal become as such due to their attraction to Ahakon in Act III, especially come chapters 23 and 24. At first, they just become Clingy Jealous Girls and Take a Level in Jerkass, but this spirals into them outright trying to murder Yukari. Needless to say, Ahakon decides to dump them for how crazy they're acting, and also because he's also realized his own feelings for Yukari.
** Arial Kuyumaya. Due to her obsession with Dark, she literally tears Mizore apart in a jealous rage, and later steals Mizore's wedding ring right off of her finger while issuing gruesome death threats; Moka and the others even outright call her insane at least once. Of course, according to Gabriel's explanation of her past in Act VI chapter 16, Arial was never very stable to begin with, and becoming infatuated with Dark just made it worse.
* LoveMakesYouDumb:
** In the latter chapters of Act II, Kokoa is so blinded by her newfound love for Tsukune that she doesn't realize that his inner ghoul is influencing his actions in order to manipulate her into finishing the transfusion and give him a power surge from her overcharge until it's too late. When she finds out, Kokoa is so devastated by her mistake and ashamed that she was so easily tricked that she nearly commits suicide.
** Outer Moka herself falls into it in Act III. When she finds out that Hokuto's associate Jovian can apparently repair Tsukune's Holy Lock, Moka is utterly lost in bliss over having Tsukune back to normal and being able to use his power both in battle and in lovemaking, to the extent that she pays no mind to her inner self's protests and insistence that something seems suspicious over the whole thing, especially since Rason claimed that the Holy Lock is one of a kind and that only the Almighty Himself could actually repair it. It isn't until chapter 32, when Ruby makes those exact same points to the entire group, that Outer Moka actually begins considering those facts.
** In Acts V and VI, Arial takes it up to eleven, adamantly refusing to accept that Dark doesn't love her as a wife until after she causes him to have a massive FreakOut that nearly leads to his death.
* LovePotion: In Act I chapter 23, Yukari creates a love-struck potion to help Tsukune and Moka in their relationship, but it backfires when Moka, Kurumu, and Mizore use it all at once and nearly force themselves on their respective beaus right then and there. Act IV chapter 17 reveals that Ruby kept the potion for some reason; Falla, Apoch, and Astreal mistake it for perfume and use it, and HilarityEnsues when Moka, Luna, Yukari, and Kokoa end up dosed with it as well.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming:
** In Act II chapter 22, after raping Mizore, Miyabi is vocally disappointed that Mizore didn't scream even once.
** In Act V chapter 36, with Kyouko at her mercy, the dark Falla urges her to scream and beg for her life before she dies.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Act II reveals that Kurumu's father is none other than the Lord of Hell himself, having conceived her with Ageha during a one-night stand; Kurumu herself is unaware of her father's identity until she meets him personally in Act V chapter 8.
* MacGuffinSuperPerson: Luna, Falla, and Sun are this to Babylon in Act VI; he plans to use Luna and Falla to breed more chronoflies for his army, and to use Sun for her siren powers to enslave powerful monsters, as Sun, unlike most other sirens, can charm both male and female monsters.
* MadeASlave: Ran, Rin, and Ren were kidnapped and enslaved by Babylon's army when they were children, and forced to charm monsters for them.
* MadeOfEvil: Shadow demons such as Dark are stated to be beings of pure evil formed from Hell itself.
* MadeOfIron: Dark is able to keep standing and fighting after, among other things, getting impaled with Sinister Scythes and getting drained of blood by a crazed Tsukune, both of which left Rason incapacitated.
* MadeOutToBeAJerkass:
** In Act III chapter 12, after Mizore and Felucia explain to the others that Dark's claim that he's only keeping Tsukune alive long enough for Kokoa to repay her debt to him was merely a bluff to fool the headmaster and buy time to find out how to repair the Holy Lock, they outright accuse them of being Ungrateful Bastards and giving Dark too little credit. Of course, the rest of the gang had good reason to take Dark's words at face value, since he had openly stated on more than one occasion that if he even suspected that the Holy Lock wouldn't hold and the ghoul would roam free again, he would kill Tsukune without hesitation.
** In Act VI chapter 17, Mizore and Arial get into a fight over Dark that leads to Mizore pinning Arial down and literally beating Arial to a bloody pulp all while screaming at her to stay away from Dark and outright calling her a bitch. It's only after she's beaten Arial senseless and flat-out tells the other girls that "the bitch had it coming" that she realizes that during the fight, she broke into the boys' room and beat Arial to an inch of her life right in front of Dark, who considers Arial his guardian angel; by that point, Dark was the only one in the group who was unaware that Arial was Yandere obsessively in love with him to the extent that she nearly killed Mizore in front of everybody in a jealous rageDark had fainted at the sight of Arial, so he didn't see it happen, so to him, it appears that Mizore attacked Arial without provocation. With this, Mizore is forced to reveal the AwfulTruth to Dark.
* MagneticHero:
** When Dark defected from Fairy Tale, several other members followed his example.
** In Act III chapter 44, after seeing Yukari's near-HeroicSacrifice to protect them, the entire student body is inspired to jump into the fray and help the gang fight off Fairy Tale.
* MakeAnExampleOfThem: In Act II, when Fairy Tale is occupying the Snow Women Village, Miyabi decides to have Mizore's mother Tsurara executed to teach the other snow people their "place." It also doubles as a big KickTheDog moment because mere moments before giving the order, he'd extorted Mizore for sex in exchange for not doing so. Fortunately, Tsukune and the others put a stop to it.
* MakingLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: While Tsukune & Moka and Dark & Mizore all have the decency to retire to other rooms to make love, Rason and Kurumu just elect to do it right in the middle of the Shirayuki family's living room, all over the place and in various positions.
-->Mizore: Great, now we need to have the living room burned down and redone.
* ManchurianAgent: As revealed in Act VI, Falla had Rin's headphones rigged to drive her into a berserker rage whenever she hears heavy metal music. Both times it has happened, Rin ended up destroying her hometown and Yokai Academy.
* ManipulativeBastard:
** In Act II, the ghoul inside Tsukune exploits Kokoa's newfound feelings for Tsukune to dupe her into finishing the blood transfusion while activating her overcharge, which allows him to become a full-fledged ghoul and usurp Tsukune's body completely.
** Throughout Act III, Hokuto plays the entire group to steal the ArtifactOfDoom he needs for his plan.
** In Act IV, the original Falla faked wanting to reform and befriending Kyouko to dupe Luna into finishing the spell to restore her chrono magic. As soon as the plan succeeds, Falla drops the act and kills Luna on the spot while gloating about how easily the gang fell for it.
* MaskOfSanity: In Acts III and IV, Hokuto constantly acts polite and reasonable, but due to his nihilistic view that all life, human and monster alike, is a plague, as well as the fact that under his control, Jovian and Jacqueline were nothing but AxCrazy Psychopathic Manchildren who committed acts of mass murder and city-wide destruction as a matter of course, it's clear he's just as evil and insane as Jovian and Jacqueline themselves; he's just much better at controlling and hiding it.
* MassOhCrap:
** The entire gang's reaction in Act III chapter 12 when Moka confesses to them that the Holy Lock on Tsukune's wrist, which had been stated by multiple sources to be completely unbreakable, cracked under the strain of Tsukune's power.
** They have another one in Act VI chapter 50 when Hex reveals that Babylon in fact has enough power to launch his invasion as they speak, and he could be launching his attack at any time.
* MeaningfulName:
** Dark's name; he took his last name from Arial Kuyumaya, the little snow girl who he was forced to kill and who granted him freedom with her last breath, while his first name was from Arial remarking that even if he was dark, she didn't hate him.
** As revealed in Act VI, Sun took on the surname Otonashi in honor of Rin, Ran, and Ren's family, having been unaware that the sisters survived the destruction of their hometown.
* MeaninglessVillainVictory: Despite Tsukune and the gang's best efforts throughout Act IV, Hokuto ultimately succeeds in his plan to resurrect Alucard, who proceeds to go on a rampage to destroy the world. Of course, right after he succeeds in doing so, Hokuto is killed by Tsukune, and in the penultimate chapter of the act, Tsukune and co. figure out Alucard's weakness and destroy him, rendering Hokuto's victory utterly meaningless.
* MegatonPunch: After Sun's jealousy of her relationship with Gin pushes her too far in Act VI chapter 42, Kokoa nails her with one that sends her clean through a wall. It's later revealed in chapter 44 that Kokoa's punch had completely pulverized Sun's eyeballs and cracked her skull, and if Kokoa had put just a little more power into the attack, she would have shattered Sun's head completely.
* MercyKill: In Act VI chapter 2, Gabriel shoots an [=HDA=] soldier in the head to spare him a more agonizing death at Ceal's hands.
* MercyKillArrangement: In Act III chapter 43, as Fairy Tale attacks the school and with his Holy Lock on the verge of breaking completely, Tsukune forces the others to promise to kill him in the event that happens and the ghoul is unleashed again.
* MindControlEyes:
** In Act III chapter 12, while being controlled by the ghoul's essence, Kokoa's sclerae develop spiderweb-like patterns.
** In Act IV, after being charmed by Jovian and Jacqueline, Felucia's eyes are described as having a yellowish tint.
* TheMillstone: Act VI has one in the form of Arial Kuyumaya. While she does help Moka and the gang escape from captivity in the HDA, due to her stubborn obsession with Dark, as well as the yandere tendencies that come with said obsession, the group openly state on more than one occasion that Arial has caused nothing but trouble since she met up with them.
* MirroringFactions: Hokuto claims this about humans and monsters, in a completely nihilistic fashion:
-->Hokuto: You'd be surprised how similar humans and monsters really are. How they both claim they desire peace, yet both destroy everything around them. How they both claim they can love, yet they both hurt and attack everything different.
* MisplacedRetribution: In Act III, upon discovering that Kuyou is coming back to Yokai Academy to kill Tsukune in revenge for his previous defeat, the others are confused because it was Moka who defeated him. Tsukune theorizes that it's because he's living proof that humans and monsters can co-exist, and Kuyou, being the anti-human extremist that he is, is disgusted by that.
* MissingMom: Both Akasha and Gyokuro disappeared when Moka and Kokoa were very young, leaving them with very little knowledge of their mothers. In Act VI chapter 39 , Akasha reveals to Moka that she had sacrificed herself to reseal Alucard when the latter was just a toddler. Later in chapter 45, Kokoa admits to knowing nothing about Gyokuro, having been abandoned by her shortly after she was born, with the only thing Issa ever told her about Gyokuro is that she was "no longer part of the family," implying that she either left to join Fairy Tale or was cast out of the Shuzen family for collaborating with them.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: The entire reason Apoch and Astreal fled from Ghaldin in the first place was because they got fed up with being abused and used to kill people. Similarly, the CloneArmy of the sisters that Fairy Tale summoned during Act II ultimately turned on Fairy Tale and killed them when they got sick of the abuse.
* MixAndMatchCritters:
** Kirlings, described as a cross between dogs and lizards.
** Chrono wraiths are described as looking like manta rays with spider legs.
* MomentKiller: Averted. In Act I chapter 5, when Tsukune is about to announce to his UnwantedHarem which one of them he wants to be with, Gin barges in at that moment and interrupts; the girls promptly toss him out a window and urge Tsukune to continue.
* MommasBoy: Dark has become one to Arial as of Act VI, being literally unable to go against her even though she is trying to control his love life.
* MoneyToBurn: In Act VI chapter 11, Ceal makes Fang Fang pay him 9000 gold bars to repay a debt, and promptly feeds the gold to Xarai, admitting that wealth is no problem for him and he wanted the gold just so he could take it away from the Huangs, and because they owed him.
* MonsterProtectionRacket: Invoked; in Acts V and VI, several [=HDA=] operatives believe that Tsukune and co. deliberately set Alucard loose just so they could kill him and make themselves look like heroes, which couldn't be any farther from the truth.
* MoralEventHorizon: InUniverse; in the first chapter of Act IV, Moka flat-out tells Akua and Kahlua to their faces that, as far as she's concerned, they're beyond saving for the atrocities they committed while working for Fairy Tale and Tsukune's wasting his time trying to redeem them.
* MoralMyopia:
** Dark suffers from this. For example, in Act III chapter 8, after being resurrected/resummoned after Tsukune's inner ghoul killed him, he tries to murder Tsukune outright because of the ghoul, knowing full well that in killing Tsukune, he'd be doing the exact same thing to Moka that the ghoul did to Mizore. Furthermore, in Act VI, when Arial nearly kills Mizore in a psychotic rage, Dark comes up with excuses to justify Arial's behavior, when he had previously killed people just for looking at Mizore the wrong way; however, the situation with Arial can be justified, since she's his guardian angel and Dark just cannot live with forsaking her.
** Also in Act III chapter 8, Felucia and Mizore, after openly supporting Dark's view that Tsukune's inner ghoul is too dangerous to be kept alive even with the Holy Lock, actively fight Moka and Kokoa to prevent them from stopping Dark from killing Tsukune. Kokoa calls them out it, pointing out that they know how it feels to lose someone they love and are doing the same thing to Moka; while this gets through to Mizore and causes her to hesitate, Felucia is not so easily swayed.
** In Act III chapter 24, when Apoch and Astreal regain consciousness after getting beaten up by Inner Moka, they're instantly terrified at the sight of her and scream about how she's going to kill them. As Inner Moka points out, they have little room to talk, considering the fact that the entire reason Inner Moka beat then up in the first place is because they tried to kill Yukari. Additionally, in Act III chapter 23, they remark that they distrust Yukari to be around Ahakon because she "never learns and chases after those who are taken," and when their actions cause Ahakon to break up with them in favor of Yukari, they themselves spend the rest of the fic chasing after Ahakon, who is now already taken, and even try to seduce him and steal him back at least once.
** The original Jovian and Jacqueline who served as Hokuto's CoDragons absolutely thrive on pain, violence, and mass destruction... as long as they're the aggressors, not the victims. Case in point: in Act IV, Jovian had previously killed the original Apoch in cold blood during Act III and spent several chapters of Act IV going on a massively destructive rampage through Tsukune's hometown alongside Jacqueline ForTheEvulz, but in Act IV chapter 28, the minute Apoch and Astreal successfully kill Jacqueline, Jovian completely drops all pretense of playfulness and starts spamming Wave Motion Guns at the Ezranas in an UnstoppableRage.
** Hokuto himself. He holds the nihilistic view that all life, human and monster alike, is naturally evil and violent, with living things destroying everything around them for no good reason. He himself is just as violent and destructive; aside from manipulating Kuyou into attacking Yokai Academy as a distraction, Jovian and Jacqueline's aforementioned rampage in Act IV was done on his orders.
** After accepting her role as Dark's guardian angel/mother figure in Act VI, Arial insists that Mizore isn't good enough for Dark in part because Mizore doesn't respect her; considering the fact that Arial had previously nearly murdered Mizore in a jealous rage, stole her engagement ring right off of her hand, and is continuing to be a complete Jerkass to Mizore despite all of her attempts to reason with her and win her approval, Arial has done absolutely nothing to deserve any respect from Mizore.
* MotorMouth:
** Complica has been noted to talk non-stop and forget to breathe until she passes out.
** According to Dark, the only way he's ever been able to get Felucia to shut up is by blowing her head off.
* MugglesDoItBetter: In Act II, this is explained as the reason for TheMasquerade. As the others explain, no matter how powerful monster might and magic is, human technology and weapons are superior, and humankind vastly outnumbers monsters.
* MultiversalConqueror: In Act V, it's stated outright that Babylon's ultimate goal is nothing less to take over every last world in TheMultiverse and rule over it as its king; according to Hex, several worlds have fallen to him already.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution:
** Upon their resurrection in Act III, upon finding out that Kokoa was the one who turned Tsukune into a ghoul and thus indirectly responsible for their deaths, Astreal is quick to hold a grudge against Kokoa to the extent that she outright tries to shoot Kokoa dead right in front of everybody on multiple occasions; in Act III chapter 10 alone, she tries to do so three times in rapid succession, and is admonished by it by both Ruby and Apoch each time. In Act III chapter 12, when Apoch tries to talk the ghoul-infected Kokoa down, Astreal promptly jumps right to the notion of killing her; fortunately, it doesn't come to that.
** In Act III chapter 12, when the ghoul-infected Kokoa is about to tear off Tsukune's Holy Lock, Felucia instantly insists that they have to kill Kokoa before it's too late; Mizore stops her by pointing out that Dark is trying to stop Kokoa non-lethally, and if it really came down to that, Dark would have already killed either Kokoa or Tsukune.
** In Act V chapter 37, after the rampage done by Evil!Falla, Jovian, and Jacqueline, some HDA members watching from afar realize that Tsukune's allies are monsters and initially plan to just bring them into custody and interrogate them, to see whether or not they had anything to do with said rampage. Instead, their leader, Jenner Rythmore, directly orders them to kill them right now, convinced that they did orchestrate the attack and all monsters are evil no matter what.
** In Act VI chapter 51, Kokoa suggests that they just kill Hex to break the spell he has on Falla and Akasha. Moka and Kyouko dismiss that possibility, pointing out that Hex is much stronger than he looks, that Akasha and Falla will fight against them to protect him, and there's no guarantee that killing him will break the spell anyway.
* MurderTheHypotenuse:
** Mizore of all people attacks Moka and tries to do this to her in a rage in Act I; Tsukune's TakingTheBullet for Moka snaps her out of it.
** In Act III chapters 23 and 24, Apoch and Astreal try to kill Yukari right in front of everybody to keep her from taking Ahakon away. Both times they fail: the first thanks to Luna's intervention, and the second because Ahakon threw Yukari out of the way of their attack, only escaping death thanks to Luna. Needless to say, after the second time, Ahakon promptly dumps them in favor of Yukari right then and there.
** In Act IV, Falla attempts to kill Moka by setting up various Death Traps in the girls' dormitory in order to MakeItLookLikeAnAccident; the others even point out how stupid this is, considering the fact that Tsukune would hate her for doing so. She fails miserably, and after briefly reverting to her old evil self thanks to Lilith's Mirror, she finally accepts that Tsukune is Moka's boyfriend and not hers.
** In Act VI chapter 9, Arial tries to do this to Mizore upon finding out she's Dark's girlfriend, and it's only thanks to Ceal that Mizore survives.
** In Act VI chapter 11, Kokoa flies into an UnstoppableRage at Sun, activates her overcharge, and outright tries to kill her, and is only prevented from doing so thanks to Complica stopping time. Considering Kokoa's HairTriggerTemper, Kurumu and Mizore freely admit that they're not surprised she would go that far.
--->Kurumu: I can't believe she tried to... well, actually I can believe it.\
Mizore: Saw it coming as well.
** As of Act VI, Ren is apparently planning to do this to Moka to have Tsukune to herself; in Act VI chapter 48, she fantasizes about shattering Moka's head to pieces with a punch while repeatedly swearing to herself that she's Tsukune's real mate and Moka will never come near him again.
* MustMakeAmends:
** Kokoa's primary motivation throughout Act III is to do whatever she can to make amends to Tsukune for being the cause of his inner ghoul.
** Throughout Act IV, Akua and Kahlua assist the group to make amends for their actions under Fairy Tale.
* MyBelovedSmother: After getting over her Yandere phase in Act VI chapter 27, Arial becomes this to Dark, insisting that it's up to her who Dark marries. Both Kurumu and Rason state that perhaps things were better when Arial was obsessed with Dark.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Several examples:
** When Tsukune takes the bullet for Moka during her fight with Mizore in Act I chapter 4, Mizore is instantly horrified at what she's done to the extent that she's perfectly willing to let Inner Moka kill her.
** After that, when Tsukune explained that he had been waiting so long to pick a member of his UnwantedHarem to be with because he IDontWantToRuinOurFriendship didn't want to ruin his friendship with the other three, the girls have this reaction for putting him in such a position.
** In Act I chapter 30, after the Kiyo brothers reveal their DivideAndConquer plan, Kurumu and Mizore are completely ashamed of themselves for having played right into their hands, especially since they never once suspected foul play and were so ready to believe the worst in Rason and Dark.
** Act II is more along the lines of My God, What Did I Almost Do?, but the basic principle is the same. In Act II, Kokoa challenges Moka for the right to be Tsukune's mate via the Eia Dreahl, a vampire pact that is punishable by death if broken, firmly believing that Tsukune isn't safe with Moka because she keeps putting him in danger. She ends up losing said pact, and it's only afterwards that she realizes that Moka never put Tsukune in danger, and he was fighting of his own choice and loves Moka regardless; realizing what she would have taken away from Tsukune if she had indeed won the pact, Kokoa is instantly ashamed of herself.
** In the first chapter of Act III, this is Kokoa's exact reaction when she realizes that the ghoul was manipulating Tsukune from within to trick her into giving it enough power to take over Tsukune's body; she's so devastated that she nearly kills herself.
** In Act III chapter 24, Apoch and Astreal have this reaction when they seemingly kill Ahakon during their fight with Yukari; as a result, they're perfectly willing to let Yukari kill them in revenge until it's revealed that Luna saved Ahakon just in time.
** In Act IV chapter 13, this is Falla's reaction when her emotional outbursts over the fact that the Tsukune of the main timeline loves Moka and not her causes herself and Moka to fall through time, leading to Moka being near-fatally poisoned by a pack of kirlings.
** In Act IV chapter 17, this is Mizore's near-word-for-word reaction when she realizes that Dark just saw her beat Arial to a bloody pulp.
** In Act VI chapter 27, Arial has such a moment when she finally realizes that her role was as Dark's guardian angel, not his soul mate, and by confessing to him, she has essentially deprived him of his reason for living.
** In Act VI chapter 44, Kokoa has another moment when she discovers that her attack on Sun has essentially left the latter brain dead.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch:
** Dark's race, the shadow demons, are explicitly stated to only exist to kill at the behest of their summoners. Dark, however, is the exception.
-->Dark: So what if I was born from hatred and fear? I never wanted to be evil. I never wanted to be a killer.
** The chronoflies were all stated to be a peaceful race who kept to themselves, but Falla is a sadistic, sociopathic Jerkass who views all other races as PitifulWorms, wants power for power's sake, and doesn't give a damn about anyone who's not her, not even her own family.
* NeighbourhoodFriendlyGangsters: The Huang family, as depicted in Act VI. They're part of the Chinese mafia, but have been shown to be quite a friendly bunch; Felucia admits that she trusts Fang Fang completely. Also, Ten-Ten saved Akua and Kahlua from Talon even though she didn't have to. Fang Fang even tells the group that, while they are a mob family, all of their dealings are legit.
* NeuralImplanting: In Act VI chapter 40, Hex implants full knowledge of himself, Pandora, Babylon, and Babylon's army into the minds of the dark lords after they win his game. In Act VI chapter 50, he does the same to Moka's group and the [=HDA=] when Akasha wins his game.
* NeverMyFault:
** In Act I chapter 21, a bully in the kendo club deliberately bumps into Yukari and then has the gall to tell her to watch where she's going.
** In Act II chapter 28, after Tsukune gets caught in between them during their brief fight over him, Kokoa is quick to tell Moka that this proves her point that Tsukune isn't safe with her; Moka just as quickly points out that Kokoa hit him too.
** In Act VI chapter 27, Arial insists that Mizore is not good enough for Dark in part because Mizore doesn't respect her. As pointed out by the others, Mizore has good reason not to respect her because Arial nearly killed Mizore in a jealous rage less than twenty-four hours ago.
** In Act VI chapter 44, Kurumu quickly lambasts Kokoa for leaving Sun comatose, disregarding the fact that, even if Kokoa did get carried away, it was Kurumu's own teasing about seeing her have sex with Werewolf!Gin, and the fact that she told her that Sun was spying on her the whole time, that set Kokoa off in the first place.
* NGOSuperpower: Fairy Tale has vast funds and resources, able to do such things as perform genetic research and SuperSoldier projects, and all manner of technology and weapons, enough to produce three dozen cases of Blackheart for the sake of just one of Kiria's Evil Plans; Dark implies in Act II that they even have access to nuclear missiles. In Act III, Kiria personally sends an entire armada of soldiers and powerful monsters to Yokai Academy purely to capture Tsukune, Moka, and Kokoa; said armada includes multiple attack helicopters, and even a few wyverns. Beforehand, it's stated in Act II that as powerful as the Dark Lords, such as Issa Shuzen, are, given Fairy Tale's vast resources and technology, a fight between the two could easily go both ways.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** During the climax of Act II, Kokoa is duped by the ghoul in Tsukune's body into giving it enough power to take over Tsukune. When she discovers the ghoul's deceit, Kokoa is so ashamed of having fallen for it, and horrified at what she has done to Tsukune, that after an InterruptedSuicide, she swears fealty to Tsukune in atonement.
** In the early part of Act III, Ahakon accidentally leads Fairy Tale back to Mizore's hometown while running from them. To be fair, though, he had no idea that the Snow Woman Village was nearby.
** In Act III chapters 14 and 15, Apoch and Astreal misread the instructions while making Yukari's new wand and make it with a Zeta-line seal instead of a Beta-line one, causing the wand to drive Yukari insane with power and resulting in Tsukune cracking two more links in his Holy Lock to stop Yukari and destroy the wand.
** In Act III, after one fight in school too many, the headmaster tells Tsukune and co. that they will be separated if another incident happens. Unfortunately, Kano uses this to his advantage to blackmail the girls into letting him take pin-up photos of them, knowing that if they retaliate, they'll only dig themselves in deeper with the headmaster. After Kano is dealt with, the headmaster changes his mind and allows the gang to exercise their right to defend themselves if any other student tries to harass them.
** As revealed in the final chapter in Act III, Tsukune and co.'s defeat of Kiria allowed Hokuto to carry on with his plan to resurrect Alucard, as Hokuto IGaveMyWord promised Kiria that he wouldn't enact said plan unless Kiria's own plan failed.
** In Act V, the angels recruit Luna to examine a mysterious rift in Heaven, believing it to be a rift in the time stream that Luna could repair. Unfortunately, said rift was actually a portal into Babylon's world, and Luna is promptly captured and imprisoned to be used as a BabyFactory for his army.
** In Act VI chapter 37, Complica tries on Luna's stabilizing bracelet, but her chrono magic overloads said bracelet to the point that it explodes and tears open a rift into Babylon's world. Babylon wastes no time in personally showing up with an armada, capturing Luna, Falla, and Sun, and killing everyone else except for Complica, Kou, and Xarai. If Complica hadn't cast Chrono Displacement after the massacre, Babylon would have won right then and there.
** In Act VI chapter 51, when Akasha decides to play Hex's game to create a gateway to Heaven for Complica, Falla interferes with her attempt while insisting that, as Complica's sister, she should be the one to do it; Akasha gets a bad roll and loses her heart to Hex as a result, with Hex even flat-out remarking that Akasha probably would have won if Falla hadn't screwed it up.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** In Act III, Kuyou calls Tsukune and co., declaring he's coming back to kill Tsukune as revenge for his previous defeat. Hokuto, Ruby, and the headmaster decide to use it to their advantage; with Tsukune and co. having TookALevelInBadass and most of the Yokai student body shunning them and believing them to be fakes claiming to have fought Fairy Tale for attention, if they see them fight off Kuyou with their own eyes, then it'll finally convince them Tsukune's group are heroes and get them to back off. While it turns out Hokuto himself personally orchestrated Kuyou's attack as a distraction while he stole an ArtifactOfDoom from the academy, it nonetheless succeeds; in chapters 41 and 42the entire school does indeed see Tsukune and his friends fight and defeat Kuyou to protect them, which convinces them they are heroes and the rumors of them fighting Fairy Tale were real.
** In Act IV chapter 19, when Hitomi petrifies Moka, it allows Inner Moka to bypass her seal, break free of the petrifaction, and kick her ass. Downplayed, as there's no way Hitomi could have anticipated that would happen.
* NoAccountingForTaste: This is the entire group's reaction to Kokoa's decision to date Gin in Act III chapter 35. Kurumu even flat-out asks Kokoa if she's that desperate for a boyfriend.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: In his backstory, Rason saved a monster girl (later revealed in Act III to be Luna) from a human rapist, and the other angels responded by banishing him from Heaven because angel laws explicitly state that humans are sacred and must be protected no matter what until they actually die with sin, and monsters are all automatically evil and sinful. And that's only because one of the elders opted for leniency and decided to give Rason a chance to prove that monsters can be both good and evil just like humans; the other angels originally planned to just execute him.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown:
** In Act VI chapters 7 and 8, Arial dishes out an absolutely savage one to Mizore upon finding out that the latter is Dark's girlfriend, using her ice claws to literally tear Mizore apart. By the time she's done, Mizore has been shredded into LudicrousGibs and cannot speak coherently, forcing Ceal to reconstruct her body using the corpse of an [=HDA=] soldier to save her life, and Arial is only stopped from going any further by being knocked out by Razico.
** Mizore gives it right back in Act VI chapter 17. After a DesignatedGirlFight, Mizore pins Arial down and uses ice fists to savagely beat Arial within an inch of her life, all while screaming at her to stay away from Dark and outright calling her a bitch.
* NoManShouldHaveThisPower: In Act III, it's revealed that Issa collects rare magical spells and artifacts, though he never intends to actually use them. One of said spells/artifacts was the only copy of the chronoflies' Chrono Displacement spell, which Akua and Kahlua steal and give to Kiria so he can use it to change the outcome of the Battle of Kahdaln, which forced the monsters to set up TheMasquerade in the first place, in favor of the monsters using Tsukune's inner ghoul, effectively rewriting history so that humans are extinct and monsters rule the world; however, what Akua and Kahlua didn't know was that Kiria also planned to use the spell to send other Blackheart-infected monsters to wipe out all of the Dark Lords and any other powerful beings who could possibly pose a threat to him, creating a timeline where Kiria himself reigns supreme. During their attack on Kiria's HQ, Tsukune and co. agree that the Chrono Displacement spell is too dangerous for anyone to have and destroy the scroll so it can never be used again.
* NoOntologicalInertia:
** In Act IV chapter 18, upon Hitomi's death, all of those she petrified return to normal.
** Similarly, both times Jovian and Jacqueline are killed, the mind control spell they cast on Felucia, and later Apoch and Astreal, are automatically broken.
** Discussed in Act VI chapter 51. Kokoa suggests that they just kill Hex to break the spell he has on Falla and Akasha. Moka and Kyouko dismiss that possibility, pointing out that Hex is much stronger than he looks, that Akasha and Falla will fight against them to protect him, and there's no guarantee that killing him will break the spell anyway.
* NoSell:
** Being essentially made of fear itself, Dark is immune to Luna and Falla's ability to produce fear-inducing dust, as well as necro magic.
** Similarly, in Act IV, the pack of Kirlings is immune to Falla's fear dust because they're nothing but mindless beasts who can't feel fear.
* NoSympathy:
** In Act II chapter 25, it's explicitly stated that Tsukune and the others have no sympathy to spare for Miyabi as Dark is exacting his ExtremeMeleeRevenge. Perfectly justified, as said ExtremeMeleeRevenge is the direct result of Miyabi raping Mizore and bragging about it.
** In Act IV chapter 1, as Issa is punishing Akua and Kahlua for their involvement with Fairy Tale, Moka and Kokoa explicitly tell them not to expect any sympathy, with Moka even outright stating in disgust that she can't believe she used to respect them.
* NoSympathyForGrudgeholders:
** In Act II, a blood transfusion from Kokoa turns Tsukune into a ghoul, and the first thing the ghoul does is murder Apoch and Astreal in cold blood. When the two are resurrected in Act III, Astreal, after discovering that Kokoa was the one who created the ghoul, albeit accidentally, tries to shoot Kokoa dead on more than one occasion, and is called out on it by the others every single time; even Apoch, who also blames Kokoa for their deaths, disapproves of Astreal trying to shoot Kokoa.
** In Act VI, Talon Ryashen is out to kill everyone who was ever a part of Fairy Tale for any reason because they kidnapped him off the streets and turned him into a HalfHumanHybrid. It's not enough that the ones who were truly responsible for his transformation are already dead; Talon blames everyone in Fairy Tale for his condition, regardless if they were simply receptionists or Unwitting Pawns, and strives to kill them all. For this reason, even Tsukune's group (sans Kyouko) deem him a violent psychopath who needs to be stopped.
* NoIndoorVoice: Kokoa, to the extent that Sun lampshades it on two separate occasions in Act VI. In chapter 11, after Kokoa just tried to kill Sun in a fit of jealous rage and repeatedly snaps at her, Sun asks, "Do you have to yell at everyone?" Later, when Kokoa states she'll beat Sun into a "bloody smear" on the ground if she doesn't stay away from Gin and screams, "Do you hear me?", Sun snarks, "Who can't hear you when you're screaming all the time?"
* NonIndicativeName: Paradise, the PocketDimension Tsukune is quarantined in for most of Acts V and VI in order to get his vampire instincts and bloodlust under control. It's actually filled with numerous demons and monsters to be used for study and research. Ahakon even lampshades the name.
* NotHelpingYourCase:
** Just about every time someone tries to lecture her about her HairTriggerTemper, Arial ends up blowing her stack.
** In Act III chapter 24, while explaining the reasons behind their Jerkass actions in the previous chapter, Apoch and Astreal insist that they didn't mean to be so cruel. Rrrright; they threaten the gang, blow up Felucia, lie to Ms. Nekonome to get the girls sent to the headmaster's office for simply asking them why they were mistreating Yukari, and try to kill Yukari right in front of God and everybody, and then say that they didn't mean to act like such bitches. So convincing.
** In the first few chapters of Act VI, while escaping from the [=HDA=] compound, Moka and co. are forced to fight back against the soldiers, even killing some of them; the group even acknowledges that it doesn't help their claims of peace, even if they had no choice but to fight back.
** In Act VI chapter 42, tensions between Kokoa and Sun over Gin reach their boiling point, leading Kokoa to power up and punch Sun clean through a wall and then chase her and Felucia through Fang Fang's villa in an UnstoppableRage. It's subsequently discovered in chapter 44 that Kokoa's attack fractured Sun's skull and ruptured her eyes, and she would have destroyed Sun's head completely had she hit her any harder. Kokoa is instantly horrified and swears she didn't mean to hit her so hard. Considering that she had previously tried to murder Sun outright in a fit of jealousy back in chapter 11, as well as her actions in the aforementioned chapter 42, the others point out that Kokoa's claim rings a bit hollow:
-->Kokoa: I'm sorry, Gin. I didn't mean to hurt her so badly.\
Felucia: You were chasing me in the halls to slaughter her in your rage. To an observer, it would seem like you were trying to kill her.
** In Act VI chapter 47, when Tsurara tells Ageha that she looks like "a whore off the street," it leads to this exchange:
-->Ageha: How dare you group me with those inexperienced and trashy sluts that claim they know how to satisfy a man. I'll have you know that I've slept with greater and more powerful men than you ever will!\
Tsurara: And that defends you against my statement of you being a whore how?
* NotNowKiddo: In Act IV chapter 24, Astreal reveals that Apoch's LaserBlade is able to penetrate Jovian and Jacqueline's supposedly unbreakable barriers. When asked why they didn't tell them earlier, Astreal points out that they tried to, but the others insisted that they could handle it and explicitly told the Ezranas not to bring it up again.
* NotTheIntendedUse: In Act III, Tsukune's Holy Lock keeps cracking under the strain of containing his power and inner ghoul, despite being hyped up as being completely indestructible; when Felucia points out Rason told them it's not supposed to break and what a "piss poor job" it's doing with it, Rason defensively points out that the Holy Lock was never actually made for the express purpose of keeping a ghoul sealed away, especially not one as powerful as Tsukune's, and that it's a miracle the lock has managed to repress it at all.
* NotSoInvincibleAfterAll: During Acts III and IV, it's repeatedly stated that Jovian and Jacqueline are unstoppable. Naturally, the two are taken aback when Apoch manages to penetrate their supposedly unbreakable barriers.
* NotWhatISignedOnFor: In Act III, Akua and Kahlua joined up with Fairy Tale and help Kiria in his plan with the intent to make Issa one of the top dark lords once humanity is subjugated. They have this reaction when they discover in chapter 52 that Kiria didn't just plan on using the Chrono Displacement spell to send Ghoul!Tsukune back to the Battle of Kahdaln and rewrite history in favor of the monsters: he also planned on using it to send Blackheart-enhanced monsters out to wipe out the dark lords and all of the other powerful beings of their time, thus ensuring that Kiria would be the top monster in the new timeline, and that he would have infected Akua and Kahlua with Blackheart and sent them back to kill their father as part of it.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: In Act III chapter 35, Tsukune and co. walk in on Kokoa and Gin getting intimate in the newsroom, upon which they immediately assume that Gin was forcing himself on Kokoa and viciously attack him before Kokoa explains the situation.
* NotWorthKilling:
** In Act I chapter 16, Dark comes within a hair's breadth of snapping Kotsubo's neck upon hearing that he tried to molest Mizore last year, but Tsukune and Rason persuade him that it's not worth it. Nonetheless, Dark makes it clear that he will kill Kotsubo if he so much as looks at Mizore again.
** In Act VI chapter 38, after killing everyone else at the villa, Babylon tells Kyouko that he knew she was hiding from him all along, but lets her go because killing a simple human like her isn't worth his time; Kyouko ends up dying regardless after TakingTheBullet for Complica from a rylo. Thankfully, this outcome is avoided when Complica casts Chrono Displacement.
* TheNothingAfterDeath: Up until the end of Act IV, this was the fate of any deceased monsters who were deemed not evil enough for Hell. Demons such as Kurumu or Dark would be sent to Hell by default. Thanks to Rason's efforts, benevolent monsters are now being allowed into Heaven as well. All evil monsters are presumably still being sent to Hell.
* NothingIsScarier: In Acts III and IV, Hokuto, despite having only recently met Tsukune and co., knows enough about both them and Kuyou to effortlessly manipulate them both in order to get what he wants. Not to mention the fact that he somehow knew that Kenzo knew the location of Felucia's SoulJar, as well as where Tsukune's family lived. It's never revealed exactly when and how Hokuto got all of this knowledge: he just knows, and when one stops to consider it, it's somewhat unsettling.
* ObliviousToHisOwnDescription: Throughout Act VI, Arial does such things as chewing Kokoa out for her HairTriggerTemper, chewing Ran out for chasing after Ahakon romantically when he's already dating Yukari and doesn't love her like that, and telling Sun that she has to accept that Gin has moved on to Kokoa and move on... when, as shown throughout this act and the previous one, a HairTriggerTemper and issues with her loved ones choosing other girls to be with instead of her are two of the traits that define Arial most as a person. Anyone who tries to point this out to her runs the risk of setting off her BerserkButton and getting physically attacked.
* ObstructiveCodeOfConduct: The angels all have a very strict ThouShaltNotKillMuggles policy; according to God the Almighty, all humans, no matter how cruel and violent, are sacred and untouchable to the angels until they actually die with sin, upon which said protection no longer applies. This reaches ludicrous levels in Act IV when it's revealed that Hokuto, despite having become a monster and being an OmnicidalManiac planning to resurrect Alucard to bring about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, is still off-limits to the angels because he WasOnceAMan and thus still considered human; the angels are so set in their laws that they're going to just sit back and do nothing as Hokuto destroys the world they're supposed to be protecting.
* OddFriendship: Arial Kuyumaya and Complica Cii; the only thing the two really have in common is that they're monster children, and they have near polar opposite personalities. Complica is a calm and sweet NiceGirl, while Arial is a stubborn and immature JerkWithAHeartOfGold with a HairTriggerTemper that borders on AxCrazy. That being said, the two do get along very well, with Arial even agreeing to give Mizore a fair chance to prove herself worthy of Dark because Complica begged her to do so on her deathbed.
* OfficialCouple: As of the latest act, these are the couples:
** Tsukune Aono and Moka Akashiya. Both of them.
** Kurumu Kurono and Rason Miyamosa.
** Mizore Shirayuki and Dark Kuyumaya.
** Yukari Sendo and Ahakon Maradoza.
** Ruby Tojo and Razico Kalashin.
** Ginei Morioka and Kokoa Shuzen.
** Luna Cii and Gabriel Rulion.
** The benevolent Falla Cii and Ceal Erres.
** Apoch and Astreal Ezrana and Render Asaga and Leon Takeda, respectively.
* OhCrap:
** In Act II chapter 27, after Dark explains that the ExactWords of the Eia Dreahl mean that any girl, not just Moka and Kokoa, who gives Tsukune a nosebleed can claim him for her own forever, both Moka and Kokoa have this reaction, especially when they realize that Yukari has already realized as such.
** In Act III chapter 23, this is Apoch and Astreal's completely understandable reaction when Tsukune releases Inner Moka, who is not happy that they just tried to kill Yukari.
** In Act III chapter 37, this is Felucia's reaction when Hokuto reveals his true colors, as well as the fact that he and Jovian have found her SoulJar.
** In Act IV chapter 27, Hokuto, Jovian, and Jacqueline are all absolutely shocked when Apoch uses her LaserBlade to cut through Jovian and Jacqueline's barrier, especially since they were hyped up to be unbreakable throughout every act. Especially poignant in Hokuto's case; he'd mostly brushed off any and all threats to his life and declarations that they'd stop his plans with a smirk and a chuckle, so this is the first time that anything has taken him by surprise.
** In Act VI chapter 16, after beating Arial senseless in a fit of rage, Mizore has this reaction when she realizes that they crashed into the boys' bathroom during the fight, and Dark just saw her beating his guardian angel to a bloody pulp with his own eyes.
* OmnicidalManiac: As stated by Hokuto at the end of Act III, and by Akasha in Act VI, even before he became the monstrous destroyer he is now, Alucard developed a hatred of all life forms, human and monster alike, seeing them as a plague that needed to be wiped out. The extent of Hokuto's plan throughout Acts III and IV is solely to resurrect Alucard to do just that, because he feels the exact same way.
* OmniscientMoralityLicense:
** In Act III, Akua and Kahlua think they have this. They helped Kiria with his Chrono Displacement plan, even stealing the spell from their own father and being perfectly willing to kill Moka and Kokoa, their own sisters, to do so, because they think that Kiria's plan will be for the benefit of monsters everywhere and since Kiria's altering the past, nothing they do in the present will matter anyway. Of course, they promptly switch sides and spend all of Act IV atoning when they find out they were just Kiria's pawns, and his real plan was to rewrite history in his own image.
** Hokuto also thinks he has this, but he's just insane and nihilistic. He's convinced that everything he does is right, no matter how horrible it is, up to and including slaughtering every last living creature on Earth, because he's convinced that all living things are evil and that the only key to true peace is if everything dies.
* OneHitKill: On two different occasions, first in Act III and then in Act V, Moka is hit with a MegatonKick from a ghoul-infected Kokoa (Act III) and a siren-charmed Tsukune (Act V). In both cases, the hits result in Moka suffering BloodFromTheMouth, blurred vision, and being barely able to stand up; it's outright stated, either in the narration or by Moka herself, that the attacks nearly did kill her on impact.
* OneManArmy:
** In Act II chapter 22, Dark makes his entrance at the Snow Woman Village by dismantling an entire Fairy Tale squadron all by himself.
** In Act III chapter 10, in order to make sure that Tsukune can stay in full control with the Holy Lock, the headmaster arranges for him to fight Dark, Rason, Gin, Ahakon, Apoch, and Astreal all at once; as soon as Tsukune cuts loose, he makes short work of all of them.
* OneWingedAngel: In Act IV chapter 30, Hokuto decides to fight Tsukune for real and thus tears off his Holy Lock. He proceeds to dominate Tsukune and fatally impale him, but the Shuzen sisters all use their blood to revive him as a full-fledged vampire, after which Tsukune completely curb-stomps him.
* OnlyICanKillHim: As a direct result of Pandora's JackassGenie tendencies, Fafnir has CompleteImmortality unless Ceal kills the dragon himself.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Averted; in Act V chapter 29, Ceal makes it clear that he has no interest in the treasure trove that Fafnir guards: he just wants to slay the dragon because it's his FamilyBusiness, and to avenge the family members who were killed by Fafnir.
* OnlyOneName: Hex uses the surname Lagon while in the monster world, but in truth, he is this trope.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Whenever Tsukune, the AllLovingHero perfectly willing to offer forgiveness, drops said AllLovingHero business, you know some serious shit is happening. This is displayed best during Act IV chapter 31; after all of the horrifying atrocities Hokuto has committed, up to and including holding Tsukune's mother and cousin hostage and threatening their lives, Tsukune flat-out tells Hokuto to his face that he will never forgive him before curb-stomping Hokuto and completely obliterating him with a MegatonPunch.
** Invoked in Act VII chapter 1. Arial spent most of the previous act being a complete Jerkass to Mizore, right up to not caring that Mizore saved her from a BurningWithAnger Kokoa. So when Mizore makes an effort to comfort her over Complica's death/ascension to anomaly and reassures her that they will see her again, both she and Felucia are completely floored when Arial stops just long enough to genuinely thank Mizore for doing so before leaving the room; Felucia even feigns chills and wonders aloud if Hell just froze over.
* OrcusOnHisThrone:
** Throughout Acts III and IV, Hokuto relies on his mooks, CoDragons Jovian and Jacqueline, and/or his Unwitting Pawns (i.e. Kuyou) to fight Tsukune's gang for him or carry out Hostage Situations while he either does something to advance his plans along or simply pulls a VillainExitStageLeft; this happens to the extent that Tsukune and co. view him as a DirtyCoward. He finally fights on his own when Tsukune corners him at Alucard's grave... and even with his RestrainingBolt, he thoroughly spanks Tsukune. When he decides to go OneWingedAngel, he actually manages to kill Tsukune, only for a SuperhumanTransfusion from all four Shuzen sisters to revive him as a pureblooded vampire, which directly leads to Hokuto's undoing.
** Throughout Acts V and VI, Babylon is all but stated to be a PhysicalGod in his own right, and yet prefers to remain in his own world and send his various Evil Minions to invade the worlds and do his dirty work. Thus far, the only time he's done anything on his own is in Act VI chapter 37, when he personally leads the effort to capture Luna, Falla, and Sun... and even then, that action is negated by Complica casting Chrono Displacement.
* OriginalCharacter: Rason, Dark... the list goes on.
* OurGhoulsAreCreepier: An in-universe example with Tsukune's ghoul. While most ghouls are little more than mindless beasts, Tsukune's ghoul is mentioned to represent his dark side and thus has its own personality, allowing it to think and plan. At one point, it actually infects Kokoa with a portion of its essence as a contingency plan; the others are completely taken aback that it was even capable of infecting others, as no other ghoul has been able to, or at least had the mental capacity to think of doing so.
* OutGambitted: In Act IV, after learning that Hokuto is apparently planning a full-on attack on Yokai Academy to capture Moka in the future, Tsukune and co. take time to prepare. However, they fail to consider the fact that Luna and Falla, two Time Masters, weren't present during the attack in that timeline, and are caught unprepared when Hokuto does factor in Luna and Falla's presence and instead has Jovian and Jacqueline kidnap Kyouko and Tsukune's mother and hold them hostage at opposite sides of Tsukune's hometown in order to DivideAndConquer the group while a BrainwashedAndCrazy Felucia forces Moka to go with her to Hokuto without a fight in exchange for the lives of Tsukune's family.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: In Act IV, Moka, Mizore, and the others are able to tell right away that Felucia has been BrainwashedAndCrazy by Hokuto, Jovian, and Jacqueline when she repeatedly goes on rants about how Dark abandoned her to them, as they know that the real Felucia has UndyingLoyalty to Dark and would never lose faith in him no matter what.
* OutWithABang: In Act VII chapter 3, this happens to a Fairy Tale scientist who Xia-Long throws to Kurumu's EvilKnockoff. Said EvilKnockoff rapes him all while sucking the life out of him.
* PaedoHunt:
** In Act II chapter 37, one member of Kenzo's gang repeatedly eyes Yukari to the extent that Dark explicitly threatens to kill him if he doesn't stop.
** In Act III chapter 31, Kano blackmails Yukari and forces her to participate in his pin-up photo shoots with the rest of the girls, much to their disgust.
* ParentalAbandonment: Instead of staying by Issa's side to help raise their children like she did in the manga, Gyokuro Shuzen up and left altogether, abandoning Kahlua and Kokoa shortly after the latter was born to plot her revenge on Akasha. The most Issa ever told Kokoa about Gyokuro was that she "was no longer part of the family."
* ParentalObliviousness: In Act III, Issa was completely oblivious to the fact that Akua and Kahlua had joined Fairy Tale right under his nose, even after they steal the Chrono Displacement spell from his secret archive for the organization's use; said archive was a family secret that only Issa and his daughters knew about, so there was no other way Fairy Tale could possibly have known about it, making it even more ludicrous that he didn't suspect anything.
* PayEvilUntoEvil:
** In Act II, Dark's murder of Miyabi Fujisaki is ridiculously over the top and brutal, but considering the fact that Miyabi enslaved Mizore's hometown, extorted Mizore for sex in exchange for sparing her mother's life ILied before ordering Tsurara's execution anyway, and openly gloated about raping Mizore to Tsukune and co.'s faces, it's hard to feel any sympathy for him; despite being horrified at Dark's brutality, Tsukune and the others unanimously agree that Miyabi deserved every second of it. Kurumu sums it up best:
--->Kurumu: Pay the price, you asshole!
** In Act V chapter 37, Ceal does this to the original dark Falla, ripping out her remaining eye with her bare hands. Brutal, yes, but considering that the dark Falla had lured her younger sister to her demise out of spite, destroyed her entire kingdom and species in a fit of rage over being denied the chance to become queen, used Kyouko as an UnwittingPawn to dupe Luna into restoring her magic, and gleefully ripped her GoodCounterpart to shreds with her bare hands while laughing about it before trying to kill Kyouko and going on a psychotic rampage through a human city, she gets absolutely NoSympathy in-universe and out. Leon states outright that the dark Falla had such a thing coming to her, and Apoch and Astreal declare she deserves even worse.
* PerpetualMotionMonster: Jovian and Jacqueline Kikion. Thanks to their being enhanced by Alucard's blood, their power levels are immeasurable and they can fight for any distance of time without ever tiring.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: During the climax of Act IV, Jovian and Jacqueline reduce a significant portion of Tsukune's hometown to rubble.
* PersonalityPowers:
** Dark is a shadow demon and bears shadow-based powers such as invisibility; as such, he's stoic and rarely shaken by anything.
** Inverted with Arial; she's AnIcePerson, but she's stubborn, HotBlooded, and has a HairTriggerTemper.
* PetTheDog:
** With the reveal of her Yandere fixation on Dark, Arial manages at multiple points to prove she is indeed a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. In Act V chapter 23, she chooses to pass up an opportunity to go to Yokai Academy to help Marin save her inn, and in Act VII chapter 1, after spending most of the previous arc being a bitch to Mizore, she genuinely thanks her after Mizore tries to comfort her over Complica's disappearance.
** While revenge-driven to the point of entering HeWhoFightsMonsters territory, Talon does have some humanity left. In Act VI, he personally stops Saizo from feeling up Kyouko, and later helps Rin by having Jovian and Jacqueline break the spell Rin had over her memories.
* PitifulWorms:
** Hex, Pandora, and Babylon can barely form a sentence without derisively calling humans and monsters "lesser beings."
** The dark Falla likes to refer to humans and other monsters as ants.
** In Act III chapter 41, Kuyou explicitly states that, as far as he's concerned, humans are the equivalent of ants and dirt.
** In Act V chapter 36, during the school attack, Jacqueline outright refers to the humans as "filthy bugs."
** In Act VI chapter 53, Gyokuro refers to the Fairy Tale scientist in charge of the Evil Knockoffs as a "worm" for trying to suck up to her.
* PlayboyBunny: In Act I chapter 33, Ruby shows up to the school dance dressed as one.
* PlayingBothSides: A significant chunk of Hokuto's plan in Act III involves this; he manipulates Kuyou into attacking Yokai Academy by exploiting his desire for revenge on Tsukune and the Newspaper Club, and manipulates Tsukune and co. by pretending to be a friend who wants to help them; while Tsukune and the others are distracted with Kuyou, Hokuto steals an ArtifactOfDoom from the secured levels of the academy.
* PleaseIWillDoAnything: In Act II chapter 21, Mizore pleads with Miyabi to spare her mother's life using this trope, to which Miyabi forces her to have sex with him in exchange for her mother's life; it's made that much worse by the fact that Miyabi was Mizore's first. Immediately after doing so, once Mizore is out of earshot, Miyabi goes back on his word and personally orders Tsurara's execution to set an example to anyone who dares disobey Fairy Tale, and mocking Mizore for being foolish enough to believe him.
* PleaseKillMeIfItSatisfiesYou:
** In Act I chapter 4, after Mizore tries to kill Moka in a jealous rage, Tsukune jumps in the way of her killing blow. Enraged and grief-stricken, Inner Moka surfaces despite the rosary and dishes out a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to an unresisting Mizore, who's so horrified over what she's done to Tsukune that she's perfectly willing to let Inner Moka kill her. Dark intervenes, refusing to let Moka kill Mizore, telling her Mizore is already paying for harming Tsukune.
** In Act I, upon Ghaldin's death, Astreal offers up her own life to Tsukune and the others in penance for brainwashing Dark and Rason, while begging them not to hurt Apoch. They opt to give them both another chance.
** When he meets Mizore's mother Tsurara in Act II chapter 21, Dark promptly offers his life to her in penance for the snow women he killed under orders years before. After a moment, Tsurara decides to let him live.
** In Act VI, after dishing out a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to a crowd of humans, including [=HDA=] soldiers and police officers, Moka gives the [=HDA=] free rein to gun her down if there really is no chance of peace between monsters and humans, but to remember that they're willing to give peace a chance, and that Babylon will not show such mercy when he makes his move. Instead, the director of the [=HDA=] orders his troops to stand down and agrees to speak with Moka and Akasha.
* PlotHole: In Act III chapter 50, Kokoa has somehow become aware that Akua and Kahlua stole the Chrono Displacement spell from their father's secret archive for Kiria to use in his EvilPlan, when that information was never specifically revealed to them; while Tsukune and the others knew that Fairy Tale had acquired the spell, they were taken aback by the fact that it even still existed after allegedly being destroyed and outright questioned how Kiria acquired it.
* PocketProtector: As revealed in Act V chapter 29, Leon survived being shot by a rival treasure hunter because a locket he was wearing took the bullet.
* PoorCommunicationKills:
** In Act II chapter 29, after explaining the rules of the Eia Dreahl to the rest of the group, Kokoa specifies that the first girl to give Tsukune a nosebleed wins and that the loser would have to forfeit Tsukune to the winner forever under penalty of death, but not that the pact was only meant to be between herself and Moka; thus, any girl who gives Tsukune a nosebleed can claim him for her own, an opportunity that Yukari is quick to seize.
-->Dark: Poor choice of words, Kokoa.
** In Act IV chapter 20, Astreal informs the boys that Kokoa "wants" them, failing to specify that she wanted them to watch how far she could push her overcharge; the boys end up thinking she wanted the entire group to have an orgy, with Gin actually stripping down on the spot.
** In Act VI chapter 44, Gin comes to this conclusion after tensions between Kokoa and Sun reach their boiling point, resulting in Kokoa brutalizing Sun and landing her in a coma after discovering Sun spied on her and Gin having sex; while he doesn't deny that Kokoa is at fault, he outright states that if he had just put his foot down with Sun and gotten her to stop her advances sooner, the entire mess could have been avoided.
* PopculturalOsmosisFailure: On two different occasions, a member of Tsukune's posse remarks on how their lives are becoming like a manga or an anime, to which Dark asks what a manga/anime is. Both times, the others just give him confused stares before letting the matter drop.
* PostRapeTaunt:
** Act II uses this spectacularly. Miyabi rapes Mizore, and when Tsukune and the others find out, he taunts Dark by remarking, "If it makes you any feel better, she wasn't that good. She didn't even scream for me." He gets his just desserts soon after.
** In Act III chapter 12, the possessed Kokoa takes it a step farther after her rape of Tsukune, gloating about how good it felt to Moka's face before rubbing her crotch, licking her virginal blood off of her hand, and calling it "delicious" while smirking at Moka the entire time. Moka quickly snaps at that point and attacks Kokoa at full force.
** In Act IV chapter 23, after having spent the entire night holding Kyouko hostage and raping her, Jovian proves just what a monster she is by calling Tsukune over the phone and boasting about how Kyouko "tastes so good."
** In Act VI chapter 24, Rathieal pushes Gabriel's BerserkButton by openly mocking Luna's ordeal as a breeder for Babylon, calling her a whore and remarking that her being chained down and raped was her way of "kneeling" before his master. He even states that while he would have liked to have had a turn at Luna himself, he now considers her dirtied beyond his standards.
* PowerPerversionPotential:
** In Act II, Fairy Tale finds Apoch and Astreal's summoning spell and use it to create a CloneArmy for their own purposes. In chapter 51, it's revealed they've gone so far as to create numerous duplicates of the sisters, powerful witches who are described as the "perfect shield and sword" and are bound to follow the orders of whoever summons them... just to use as Sex Slaves. One such pair is so horrified and disgusted that they immediately turn on Fairy Tale and kick-start a rebellion against their clones.
** Jovian and Jacqueline are described as Perpetual-Motion Monsters who can fight and operate indefinitely without ever getting tired. The "perversion potential" is taken to its most depraved extreme in Acts III and IV, where they use their infinite energy to spend entire days and nights subjecting Felucia to sexual torture without stopping.
* PragmaticVillainy:
** In Act II, this is the only reason Tsukune's inner ghoul helps save Kokoa from a SuperpowerMeltdown; so it could use Kokoa's newfound feelings for Tsukune to its advantage by manipulating her into giving it enough power from her overcharge to hijack Tsukune's body completely. The others are ProperlyParanoid enough to suspect that the ghoul had an ulterior motive, but, unfortunately, fail to realize just what until it's too late.
** In Act III, Falla helps Luna figure out how to save Rason by freeing her from her prison and avert Luna's SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum. Not because she actually cares if Luna destroys the world, but because Luna is TheOnlyOne who can free her.
** Also in Act III, Hokuto outright states he hopes that Tsukune and co. thwart Kiria's EvilPlan, but only because if Kiria fails, then Hokuto will have free reign to enact his own EvilPlan as per IGaveMyWord his agreement with Kiria.
* ProperlyParanoid: In Act III chapter 36, the gang is unsurprisingly wary of Jovian, who looks just like Apoch, since Fairy Tale had previously used Apoch and Astreal's spell to create a CloneArmy of the sisters. By chapter 41, it turns out that Jovian really is just another Apoch duplicate, albeit an enhanced one.
* PretenderDiss: In Act IV chapter 28, Apoch and Astreal pull this off against Jovian and Jacqueline, versions of them super-charged with Alucard's blood. While Jovian and Jacqueline view them as obsolete trash and call them as such, Apoch and Astreal retort that they're the true shield and sword of their spell.
* ProfessionalButtKisser: In Act VI chapter 53, the scientist in charge of the Evil Knockoffs tries to suck up to Gyokuro, saying it's an honor to be in her presence and he's looked forward to meeting her. Gyokuro shuts him up and calls him to attention.
-->Gyokuro: Save it. I didn't ask for you to be here just to kiss my feet like the worm you are.
* ProudBeauty: Kahlua. In Act III chapter 52, when Tsukune reveals that Kahlua died in Kokoa's TakingYouWithMe in the original timeline, Kahlua's immediate response is, "But I'm too pretty to die!"
* PsychoSerum: Blackheart, a formula created by Fairy Tale which greatly enhances a monster's strength, but drives them into a berserk frenzy that lasts until the serum kills them an hour later. As of Act VI chapter 49, it's revealed that Fairy Tale has improved the serum to eliminate the drawbacks, thus making it a generic SuperSerum.
* PsychologicalProjection: Hokuto constantly condemns other living things, human and monster alike, for being evil, destructive beings who only care about themselves and will destroy everything around them and attack anything different. Considering the fact that Hokuto's idea of "true peace" amounts to reviving Alucard to destroy the world, as well as the fact that he set Kuyou loose on Yokai Academy, let Jovian and Jacqueline rape Felucia to near-insanity, and specifically ordered them to kill as many people and destroy as much as Tsukune's hometown as possible in an effort to prove to Moka that his nihilism is justified and humans and monsters can never co-exist, when it comes down to it, the only one who's as destructive and evil as Hokuto claims all living things are is Hokuto himself.
* PsychopathicManchild:
** The original Jovian and Jacqueline Kikion who served Hokuto are a mix of Types C and D. They're both incredibly powerful and nearly unstoppable Hot Witches... and they're also completely AxCrazy Psycho Lesbians whose idea of fun involves such things as ColdBloodedTorture, rape, and committing acts of wanton mass murder and city-wide destruction as a matter of course; they even explicitly describe their fights with Tsukune's group, during which they deliberately go above and beyond to kill as many innocent people and cause as much widespread destruction as possible, as "playing." To drive the point home, in Act III chapter 42, Jovian even cheers "Yay, I love killing!" in what the narration explicitly describes as a playful tone, and in Act IV chapter 25, when Gin saves Mrs. Aono's life after Jacqueline blows up Tsukune's house just to torment Tsukune, Jacqueline whines that Mrs. Aono should have died in the explosion and that Gin "didn't play fair."
** Falla Cii, before she was killed and replaced with a GoodCounterpart from an AlternateTimeline. Her reaction upon discovering that her parents had chosen her sister Luna to succeed them as rulers of the chronofly kingdom was to throw a childish fit and whine about how she deserves to rule more than Luna, before ultimately picking a fight with Luna and destroying said kingdom, along with the chronofly species except for herself and Luna, in a fit of rage.
*** Falla's GoodCounterpart also falls into this for a good part of Act IV. As she was Tsukune's girlfriend in her original timeline, she simply cannot accept that this world's Tsukune is dating Moka, to the extent that she throws a temper tantrum and screams that it isn't fair and goes so far as to rig the entire girl's dorm with Death Traps in an attempt to kill Moka. The final trap she sets is quite infantile; a box-style rabbit trap containing a blood pouch and a sign reading "Free Blood," which Falla genuinely expected Moka to fall for.
** Kahlua Shuzen retains this trait even after her HeelFaceTurn. Despite being the second oldest of the Shuzen sisters, she often acts like a young child, doing such things like whining and watching cartoons. It's also explicitly noted by other characters that every time Kahlua cries, she throws a temper tantrum; one such tantrum in Act IV chapter 2 almost leads to Yukari getting chopped up by her BladeBelowTheShoulder.
** As in the original manga, Gyokuro Shuzen's entire EvilPlan is essentially just her throwing a temper tantrum over the fact that Issa had been more loving and attentive to Akasha than her.
* PummelingTheCorpse:
** Upon being freed from Ghaldin's mind control after Moka kills him in Act I, Dark is so furious over being controlled that he promptly makes his way over to Ghaldin's corpse and literally stomps his skull into a bloody stain.
** In Act III, it's mentioned that Tsukune and the other boys take their rage out on Kano's body after discovering that he had been blackmailing the girls into letting him take dirty pictures of them, and had even planned to rape them before Luna killed him; by the time they're through, there's nothing left of Kano but ashes.
* PunchCatch:
** In Act III chapter 12, Tsukune pulls one off against the possessed Kokoa; however, Kokoa uses this to her advantage to try to tear off the Holy Lock with her free hand.
** In Act III chapter 42, Tsukune pulls another one off against Kuyou, who has just enough time to make an OhCrap face before Tsukune starts beating the piss out of him.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis:
** In Act IV, when Moka asks Hokuto if he knows what exactly will happen if he awakens Alucard, Hokuto responds:
-->Hokuto: Yes, he'll destroy everything. Every. Last. Living. Soul.
** In Act VI chapter 20, Moka does this to Arial after getting sick of her obsession with Dark:
-->Moka: Get it through your head, Arial. Open your eyes and see what's in front of you for once. Dark. Loves. Mizore!
* PunctuatedPounding:
** Kyouko gets a moment while beating on Evil!Falla in Act V chapter 37:
-->Kyouko: YOU! DAMN! MONSTER!
** In Act VI chapter 17, Mizore does this while whaling on Arial:
-->Mizore: Know! Your! Place!
* PunnyName: All named members of Luna's family; Ultima Cii (ultimacy), Lega Cii (legacy), Luna Cii (lunacy), Falla Cii (fallacy), and Complica Cii (complicacy). Rason also points out that Moka and her sisters are all named after beverages. Neither Moka nor Luna get it.
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter:
** In Act III chapter 52, Ghoul!Tsukune laughs as he disembowels Kiria with his bare hands.
** During the climax in Act IV, Jovian and Jacqueline absolutely thrive on the destruction and death they cause as they reduce a great deal of Tsukune's hometown to rubble.
** In Act V chapter 35, Evil!Falla laughs her head off as she literally tears her GoodCounterpart to shreds with her bare hands.
* PutThemAllOutOfMyMisery: What Hokuto's plan ultimately boils down to. He views all life, human and monster alike, as a plague that needs to be wiped out, and thinks the only way to achieve true peace is by resurrecting Alucard and allowing him to bring about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt.
* RaceFetish: Invoked; in Act II chapter 22, Rason jokes that, given that it was a yuki-onna who freed him from servitude and that he fell in love with Mizore, Dark has "a type."
* RageBreakingPoint:
** In Act III chapter 32, all of the boys have hit this after all of the harassment the other student have given them, on top of finding out that Kano has been blackmailing the girls into letting him take dirty pictures of him to satisfy his own perversions. After ensuring the girls are alright, they promptly storm off to Headmaster Mikogami to chew him out, since he essentially forbade them from fighting back, which is the only reason Kano got as far as he did before Luna killed him.
** In Act III chapter 42, after the deaths of Apoch and Astreal, as well as TheReveal that Hokuto and Jovian were EvilAllAlong and that they enslaved Felucia and orchestrated Kuyou's attack on Yokai Academy, Tsukune hits it big-time and proceeds to blow Kuyou away in an UnstoppableRage.
** In Act IV chapter 16, Rason hits his in Act IV chapter 16 when he discovers that the Almighty and the other angels are fully aware of Hokuto's plan to revive Alucard, but cannot/will not do anything to stop him because, having been born human, Hokuto is still considered sacred and untouchable to the angels until he actually dies with sin; the revelation that his Lord and fellow angels are essentially going to forsake all life on Earth because of their laws completely pushes Rason over the edge, to the extent that he explicitly calls out the Almighty Himself over his pro-human/anti-monster ways.
** In Act IV chapter 28, Tsukune hits it once again with Hokuto; Hokuto had kidnapped and threatened his family, brainwashed Felucia, set Kuyou loose on Yokai Academy, and just stabbed Moka and thrown her off of his airship right in front of Tsukune himself, so Tsukune is understandably furious, even outright telling Hokuto after becoming a full-fledged vampire in chapter 31 that he will never forgive him before beating the ever-loving shit out of him.
** In Act V chapter 37, Kyouko, having gotten sick of being a DamselInDistress and being used against her loved ones and friends, snaps and physically assaults Evil!Falla.
** In Act VI chapter 20, Moka hits hers when she finally gets sick of Arial, Ran, and Sun being Clingy Jealous Girls over Dark, Ahakon, and Gin, respectively, and gives all three of them a serious tongue-lashing.
** Moka hits it once again in Act VI chapter 25, furiously chewing out the HDA for their anti-monster attitude and pointing out all the good she and her friends have done. Throughout chapter 30, she makes it clear to the HDA in no uncertain terms how sick she is of it.
* RapeAndRevenge:
** In Act II chapter 22, Miyabi extorts Mizore for sex in exchange for sparing her mother's life, only for Miyabi to ILied order Tsurara's execution anyway. When Dark finds out a few chapters later, he flies into an UnstoppableRage, personally killing Miyabi and making sure his death is as painful and brutal as possible.
** In Act VI chapter 24, Gabriel flies into a similar UnstoppableRage when Rathieal reveals what Luna went through as a BabyFactory for Babylon's army, and attacks Rathieal with everything he has. In the end, however, he's not the one to finish him off; Astreal does so with the Artimus Arrow.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil:
** Miyabi rapes Mizore in Act II while holding her captive, and is brutally killed by an outraged Dark soon after.
** Similarly, as revealed in Act II chapter 51, among the other things that the numerous duplicates of Apoch and Astreal are used for is as Sex Slaves for Fairy Tale soldiers.
** In Act III chapter 12, Kokoa's ghoul-induced SplitPersonality rapes Tsukune, going so far as to paralyze him with a "love tap" to the spine to ensure he would hold still while she did so.
** Jovian and Jacqueline also sexually abuse Felucia and Kyouko while holding them hostage at different points.
** Exaggerated in Acts V and VI. Babylon, the new BigBad of these two respective arcs, has Luna captured and chained up in his palace where she is forced to become a BabyFactory, being raped by a specific species in order to produce SuperSoldier hybrids that will inherit her Time Master abilities and be added to his already vast army; fortunately, Hex saves her before she conceives.
* RapeLeadsToInsanity:
** In Act II chapter 22, Mizore is raped by Miyabi, and three chapters later, believes herself DefiledForever and attempts suicide. Kurumu saves her just in time and talks some sense into her.
** Averted in Act III chapter 12; aside from having to be healed after taking a paralyzing hit to the spine, Tsukune walks away from getting raped by a ghoul-infected Kokoa none the worse for the wear. Considering he's spent most of his time at Yokai Academy being borderline harassed by five overzealous girls, it's not really that surprising.
** Played straight with Felucia; by the time of Act IV chapter 6, she's been constantly tortured and sexually abused by Jovian and Jacqueline to the point that she's suffering SanitySlippage, the one coherent thought she can focus on being that Dark had sworn to Hokuto that he was coming for her.
** In Act VI, when Felucia retrieves Luna from Babylon's world, it's initially believed that Luna has been rendered catatonic by the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of the monsters there. As it turns out, the Luna Felucia retrieved was just a doll in her image, and Hex saved Luna before things got to that point.
* RapePillageAndBurn: In Act VI chapter 37, after capturing Luna, Falla, and Sun, Babylon gives his various monsters free reign to destroy, kill, and even rape whoever and whatever they want to celebrate his triumph and "show the world a taste of what's to come." Fortunately, Complica casts Chrono Displacement and avoids this outcome.
* RazorSharpHand: Chronoflies can use their hands as slashing and piercing weapons while shifted into time. Falla has made use of this to slice off limbs and chop Luna in half at the waistLuna got better after a few chapters.
* ReadingsAreOffTheScale:
** In Act IV chapter 2, Akua and Kahlua explicitly describe Jovian and Jacqueline's power levels as immeasurable.
** In Act V chapter 29, dragons are described as being beyond S-Class in the monster world; they're so powerful that they're in a class all their own.
* ReadingLips: As he's almost constantly listening to an MP3 player, Dark typically communicates by reading lips. A RunningGag is that he has difficulty understanding what Mizore is saying because of her ever-present lollipop.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Several examples:
** In Act IV chapter 19, while beating up Hitomi, Inner Moka dishes one out:
-->Inner Moka: You have some nerve to call yourself a teacher. All I see is a demented woman, one with no artistic talent of her own. So she has to take all the artists around her as her own pawns. Simply pathetic.
** In Act VI chapter 20, Moka hits her RageBreakingPoint over Arial, Ran, and Sun's obsessions with Dark, Ahakon, and Gin, all three of them being boys they can't have, and furiously chews all three out, pointing out they have far bigger problems to attend to.
-->Moka: Alright already! That's enough! I have had enough! We have far more important matters to attend to, and I'm sick of all these interruptions.\
Ceal: You and me both.\
Moka: [to Arial] Get it through your head, Arial. Open your eyes and see what's in front of you for once. Dark. Loves. Mizore! [Arial opens her mouth to object] There are no buts or excuses at all, Arial! Dark marked Mizore to be his wife. Dark proposed to Mizore to marry her. Dark loves Mizore, he always has! If you really cared about him in the slightest, you would have seen that before ruining the image of his guardian angel by telling him you love him like a husband! You scarred him, cut him deeper than anything else ever could have! You should be ashamed of yourself! [turns to Ran] And you! What the HELL is wrong with you, Ran? Never mind the age difference, Ahakon loves Yukari! That trumps every other reason you can't have him! You know this! We all know this! So what if he's your hero? That doesn't mean you have any right over him at all! He gave you that kiss last night to let you down easy; he wanted to avoid taking everything from you. He wanted to be kind to you, to keep you as a friend! He doesn't love you, he even shouted it to you point-blank! If you have any shred of a heart, if you truly do care about him, then you will apologize to him and Yukari for your behavior! [turns to Sun] And you! Are you just as blind as these two? Gin loves Kokoa! How can you not see that? You had your chance to be with him and you turned him down. You sent him away after he confessed his love to you! You gave him up! You can't just turn around and say differently and expect him to come running! He's moved on, found somebody who returned those feelings! If you really want to keep him in your life then you will acknowledge Kokoa as his one and only mate, and you will respect them as a couple! You have no idea what Gin went through to be with her, what they both did to stay together! And so help me, Sun, if you try to take that away from them I will beat you into the ground myself! [briefly shifts into Inner Moka before turning back to the others] There is a war looming ahead of us. The human world thinks we're the devils again, we're isolated from our home, Arial and Complica need to be returned to Heaven, and Luna is trapped above in that dark world. I can think of so many things we should be talking about rather than arguing about your goddamned obsession with boys you can't have!
** In Act VI chapter 25, Moka and co. (mostly Moka, but the others put their own opinion in) publicly berate the [=HDA=] for refusing to see that not all monsters are bad even after everything they've done to try and make peace with them:
-->Moka: You arrested us. You took us away and scheduled us for execution just because we were monsters. We didn't want to cause any trouble. We didn't want anyone to get hurt. We only came to try to help, but you wouldn't listen to us. We didn't want to hurt you yesterday, but you gave us no choice. We had to free ourselves from being wrongfully imprisoned and accused of being enemies of mankind. Yes, we did harm and even kill some of the [=HDA=] when we broke out of your jail. We didn't want to, but we had to. You wouldn't listen to us. You wouldn't even try to understand. You just blamed us for everything because we were monsters and you were scared! We wanted peace with your race, and still do. But tell me honestly, did you want peace with us? Did you? Were you even willing to give us a chance, or does us being monsters automatically mean we're the devils? We told you that we would deal with monsters that were out of line, just as you deal with your own kind who cause trouble in your world, but the moment a monster acts out, you all jump to the notion of war! We risked out lives to help save you, to save all of you, and you still think we're nothing but horrible monsters! We exposed ourselves to you, told you everything you wanted to know about us. We wanted to live in peace with you! But the second a rogue monster causes a scene you blame all of us! You're unbelievable! We put an end to Fairy Tale! We stopped Alucard! We killed those that destroyed your school and city! My friend here even just shot that massive demon out of the sky by means that I can't even begin to fathom! What do we have to do to prove to you that we aren't evil?!\
Render: You know what? I was going to say sorry about having to kill some of your comrades the other day. I mean, hey, I didn't want to dice them into pieces. They were just trying to kill me and my smoking hot girlfriend, so of course I wasn't going to take that lying down. But it's obvious that none of you are sorry about the way you've been treating us or are even willing to listen to us. Our friend here just obliterated that demon above for you and you're aiming your guns at her again. The hell kind of manners is that?\
Mizore: You people are more of monsters than we are. You won't even give us a chance just because we're different; you think we're all the same. I could have used lethal force earlier while trying to help my friends escape the real evil monsters that were here when your police tried to shoot us. They didn't even ask questions or try to detain us; they tried to kill us on sight. But I didn't kill them. They're alive, and aside from having a few bruises, they'll be just fine.\
Leon: We stopped the monsters who were running around here causing havoc, but I guess that means nothing to you, does it?\
Akasha: I put an end to several large demons in your city, and this is the thanks I get? I see mankind's manners haven't changed in all these years.\
Moka: The [=HDA=] has been nothing but a barrier in any efforts to forming peace with you people; they treat all monsters as absolute evils regardless of their nature. I've laid my life on the line for your kind, and this is what I get for it, a gun to my face and accusations of being a plague in your world. I value life, no matter what it may be. Do you? We put a stop to the monster attack in your home. We tried to save as many lives as we could. We've begged you to listen and allow us the chance to explain what happened, yet you still point that thing at me. You want to kill me just because I'm a monster? Can there really be no peace between our worlds? If so, then go ahead and shoot. You won't get an easier shot than this. Just remember that we're willing to give peace a chance, but this monster in the darkness, the one that has attacked both our worlds in his quest for total domination... he will not be so merciful as to give you a similar chance.
** In Act VI chapter 30, when Hothorne asks her how she expects him to just believe her story about Babylon and trust that they're telling the truth, Moka is quick to turn his own words against him, pointing out that he has no room to talk to her about trust considering the [=HDA=]'s VanHelsingHateCrimes mentality:
-->Moka: You're one to speak about trust. How can we even trust you after how you treated us? We protected you from Alucard, we exposed ourselves willingly and told you everything you wanted to know about us, we've cooperated with your governments and even had three of our own students join your school as an act of peace. You're the ones that throw us all in the same lot when one of us acts out; you're the ones that have trust issues. Humans shot at us yesterday, tried to kill us all without even listening to us or willing to hear reason, yet I don't assume all humans are evil and want to kill us. There was a human girl who risked her life to free us, her name was Sandra and she gave her life helping us. She died because her own kind shot her, killed her like a common criminal all because she wanted to help those she knew were innocent. You treat all of us like evil monsters, like we're all out to destroy humanity and ravage the earth. Well, those are nothing but children's stories, Mr. Tamaka. Not all monsters are the devils. But there is one that's worse than the devil, and he's targeting both of our worlds for annihilation. So, tell me this right now, is this going to be a free-for-all, or do you want to have allies who can help you against this threat?
** In Act VI chapter 42, after a brief moment of bonding, Arial goes right back to badmouthing Mizore right out of the blue with one of these, beating into her that as far as she's concerned, Mizore will never be worthy of Dark:
-->Arial: He's not in your life, and like hell you can be with him. Dark is my son, he's not for you at all!\
Mizore: But- but-\
Arial: I didn't die so you two could be together! I didn't wish for my son to live just so he could marry some worthless snow girl like you! Dark needs a proper girl for his wife, someone who's loyal, brave, smart, and badass, and that's not you!
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure:
** The elder angel who serves as Rason and Gabriel's superior is initially the only angel besides Rason willing to give monsters a chance, and arranges for Rason to attend Yokai Academy to prove his point.
** Hothorne Tamaka, the director of the [=HDA=]. Unlike most of the others, he actually does believe that some monsters can be good and meets with Moka and Akasha in Act VI to negotiate. In chapter 30, he reveals he's been reviewing security tapes of Moka and co. fighting the HDA, noting that they only killed in self-defense in response to the HDA attacking them first, as well as Moka publicly shaming the HDA for their AggressiveCategorism of monsters, which has convinced him that no, not all monsters are bad. At the end of Act VI, once Hex implants the group with full knowledge of Babylon and his troops, Hothorne agrees to help the monster world, even starting the Monster Coalition to help with peace.
* RedBaron: Talon has built up a reputation as the "Fairy Tale Killer."
* RedeemingReplacement: Hothorne Tamaka, the head of the HDA from the mid-point of Act VI onwards, is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure who meets with Moka to negotiate and actually believes that some monsters can be good. He serves as this to his predecessor Jenner Rythmore, a GeneralRipper who automatically assumed that all monsters are evil and eagerly took the first possible excuse he could find to declare open war on the monster world.
* ReformedButRejected: Throughout most of Act IV, most of the other members of Tsukune's group refuse to believe that Akua and Kahlua can truly atone for what they did while part of Fairy Tale, especially since they nearly killed the group and were helping Kiria in a plan that would have destroyed the world; Moka and Kokoa themselves openly state that, as far as they're concerned, Akua and Kahlua are beyond saving and Tsukune is just wasting his time. Dark, having once worked for Fairy Tale and killed innocents himself, is more understanding, and the others agree to at least give them a fair chance after he reminds them that he worked for Fairy Tale once as well.
* RefuseToRescueTheDisliked: When they discover Kuyou is coming to Yokai Academy with the intent to get revenge on Tsukune for his previous defeat, Headmaster Mikogami, alongside Hokuto and Ruby, decide to use it to their advantage; when the other students see Tsukune and co. defeat Kuyou with their own eyes, they'll finally realize that the gang are not Fake Ultimate Heroes and stop mistreating them. Nonetheless, the mistreatment from the other students continues to grate on them, especially when it culminates in the girls being blackmailed and nearly raped by Kano; by the time of chapter 31, Felucia is completely sick of the harassment, openly telling the others that as far as she's concerned, they have no reason whatsoever to protect "these assholes" from Kuyou and they should just let him kill them all. Mizore shoots that down, saying they're not the "horrible ones" and they won't stoop to their level.
* RefusingParadise:
** Upon her definitive death in Act IV, Felucia is offered a place in Heaven, but instead explicitly requests to go to Hell so she can follow up on her earlier SeeYouInHell threat to Hokuto and the Kikion sisters and spend eternity making them suffer for torturing and molesting her. After the destruction of the Kikions' souls in the next arcs, Felucia accepts an offer of a RedemptionQuest from the Lord of Hell to get into Heaven because, without them to torture, she sees no point in staying in Hell anymore.
** In Act VI chapter 39, Akasha reveals to Moka that she has been DeadAllAlong; she was offered a place in Heaven by God the Almighty, but refused to accept it because, having been indirectly responsible for Alucard's initial rise to power, she feels she needs to actually earn it.
* ReroutedFromHeaven: A variation in Act V. After Rason, mind-controlled by the Otonashi sisters, breaks up with her, Kurumu succumbs to DeathByDespair and ends up in Hell; the Lord of Hell explicitly states that he drew her soul to Hell before it could go to Heaven. Rather than torture her, however, he wanted to knock some sense into her, having been revealed back in Act II to be Kurumu's biological father. Through his efforts, Kurumu unlocks a new SuperMode, and the Lord of Hell sends her back to Earth to reclaim her man.
* RescueRomance: In Act VI chapter 39, Akasha reveals to Moka that she first met Issa when he saved her from sacrificing herself to seal Alucard away.
* RestoredMyFaithInHumanity: Though she no longer works for Fairy Tale as of Act IV, Akua still believes that HumansAreTheRealMonsters and can't understand why Moka and other monsters would want to co-exist with them. Spending time with Tsukune and the others gets her to change her mind, leading to her rescuing a human boy from death during the climax of the act; by the time of Act V, she's become an advocate of co-existence.
* RevengeBeforeReason:
** Felucia, upon her death in Act IV; deliberately RefusingParadise so you can personally punish your enemies in Hell is about as "Before Reason" as you can get. Granted, Jovian and Jacqueline did torture her, rape her, and drive her insane. Indeed, she ends up exhausting her RoaringRampageOfRevenge and then agreeing to a RedemptionQuest in order to go to Heaven after all.
** Talon runs on this throughout Act VI. As stated on multiple occasions, he blames everyone who was ever a part of Fairy Tale for any reason for his current condition, and even the fact that Dark, Akua, and Kahlua, who all saw the organization for what it really was and left voluntarily, were instrumental in the defeat of Alucard won't change his mind. It's even been stated more than once that Talon simply will not listen to reason.
** Rin falls into this upon regaining her memories in Act VI. She is well aware that Falla has reformed and helped destroy Alucard, but doesn't care; she still turned her into a ManchurianAgent and caused her to wipe out her hometown and parents. She thus ends up siding with Talon in his crusade, even personally helping him attack Akua and Kahlua despite knowing that they helped save the world. In Act VI chapter 43, Ling Ling even points out that she's just letting her desire for revenge blind her to the fact that she's turning against those who loved and cared for her; befitting this trope, Rin promptly blows her off.
* RunningGag: Several:
** Dark often has trouble reading Mizore's lips because of her ever-present lollipop. On more than one occasion, he apparently thinks she's suggesting they make love in public.
** Rason is the only one who lampshades Apoch and Astreal's tendency to SpeakInUnison.
** The angels in Heaven asking one another whether or not the girls' skirts are supposed to be so short.
** Several of the Official Couples (Moka/Tsukune, Rason/Kurumu, Ahakon/Yukari, etc.) often do a HeldGaze while simply repeating each other's names, often in the midst of a combat situation.
** On several occasions, despite knowing of the existence of monsters and other such creatures, characters such as Ahakon and Kyouko are genuinely shocked to discover that Kou is a TalkingAnimal.
** After running or other such physical exertion, Ruby complains of being exhausted, to which the others accuse her of being out of shape.
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: In Act VI chapter 19, Ceal admits to Complica that, having spent most of his life training to slay dragons, he never learned how to swim.
* Sadist: Several characters fit the bill, especially the original Jovian and Jacqueline who served Hokuto and Evil!Falla, the latter of whom gleefully tears off her Good Counterpart's wings, arm, and leg before crushing her ankle in Act V chapter 35.
-->Kyouko: You... how could you?\
Evil!Falla: Very easily, actually.
* SatanIsGood: The Lord of Hell is quite a decent person during most of his appearances, and in Act VI chapter 51, he's revealed to be on speaking terms with the angels in Heaven.
* SatanicArchetype: The Lord of Hell, who is revealed in Act II to be Kurumu's biological father.
* SayingTooMuch:
** In Act III chapter 41, Jovian ends up revealing that she is indeed a witch sister when she addresses Hokuto as "master."
** In Act IV chapter 1, while trying to excuse Tsukune to Issa, Kokoa accidentally lets it slip that she turned Tsukune into a ghoul.
* ScrewDestiny:
** In Act III, after nearly manipulating Luna into freeing her, Falla reveals to her that the only way to save Rason is by using the Chrono Displacement spell, as he's doomed to die at Fairy Tale's hands no matter what. By using Chrono Displacement, Tsukune succeeds in averting Rason's fate.
** Similarly, in Act IV, it's stated more than once that in all timelines and realities, Alucard will bring about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, and nothing can stop him. In the penultimate chapter of the act, Tsukune and his friends successfully do so.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Discussed and defied in Act VI chapter 51; as the elder explains to Rason, Gabriel, and Kurumu, the Almighty's laws are absolute, and not even the Almighty himself can break them for any reason.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Despite the angels' zero-tolerance policy on killing humans, Rason makes it clear that he'll do what's right no matter what. During Act VI, Gabriel ends up adopting this view upon seeing the [=HDA=]'s VanHelsingHateCrimes mentality firsthand.
* ScrewYourUltimatum: Arial, in her stubbornness, does this twice in regards to her obsession with Dark. In Act VI chapter 13, Rason and Gabriel warn her that she will have to answer directly to the Almighty if she goes near Mizore again; Arial quickly disobeys them and goes straight to Mizore's room to issue death threats and steal Mizore's wedding ring. In chapter 15, Moka openly threatens to tell Dark that Arial is anything but the perfect angel he sees her as unless she gives Mizore the ring back. Again, Arial refuses and outright says that if she has to make her case to the Almighty himself, then so be it; Moka is only stopped from telling Dark by Apoch and Mizore's insistence that revealing the AwfulTruth to him will only create more problems than it solves.
* SeeYouInHell: In Act IV, after enduring Hokuto, Jovian, and Jacqueline's tortures for so long, Felucia declares that, even if Alucard does destroy everything, when she dies, she knows the three will follow and she will be waiting for them in Hell to torture them back. While the three laugh it off at first, Hokuto briefly flashes back to this moment when Tsukune is about to finish him off in chapter 31, and Felucia goes so far as to refuse entry into Heaven to keep her word.
* SelectiveEnforcement:
** During most of Act III, Headmaster Mikogami repeatedly does next to nothing about the various bullies and Jerkasses who deliberately go out of their way to torment and harass Tsukune and his friends, but punishes Tsukune and co. for simply acting in legitimate self-defense against said bullies and Jerkasses, to the extent that he threatens to separate them if they get into another fight. This case ends up deconstructed in chapters 30 and 31, when the other students take advantage of it to actively harass the gang even more without fear of any retribution, and when Kano uses it to his advantage as well to blackmail the girls into letting him take dirty pictures of them and nearly rape them; Mikogami wises up after the Kano incident and reinstates their right to defend themselves so it doesn't happen again.
** Throughout Act VI, after discovering Arial's JerkWithAHeartOfGold nature and reconciling with her, Dark more or less sits back and does nothing while she repeatedly attacks Mizore, both physically and verbally, in response to Mizore trying to win her approval and make peace with her. While this case is somewhat justified, since Arial is his guardian angel and Dark needs her approval to live, it doesn't change the fact that he lets Arial get away with it when in the previous five acts, he had, at the very least, put numerous other people in the hospital for even the slightest transgression they made towards Mizore.
** In the backstory, Rason killed a human man to protect Luna, a monster, and for breaking Heaven's ThouShaltNotKillMuggles rule, is nearly executed and ultimately banished from Heaven to give him a chance to prove his case that not all monsters are bad. In Act VI, Gabriel kills numerous HDA agents to save Rason and the others, and the elder basically gives him a slap on the wrist, saying he's sure Gabriel had his reasons. Of course, it's a bit more justified in this case, since by that point, Heaven has begun to change its views on monsters.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Arial takes it up to eleven. Throughout all of Act V and the first third or so of Act VI, Arial is infatuated with Dark and, no matter how many times it's explicitly pointed out to her that he doesn't love her that way, blindly refuses to accept it until Act VI chapter 27, in which her actions cause Dark to have a mental breakdown that nearly leads to his death; in Ruby's words, not even she and the other members of Tsukune's UnwantedHarem were as stupid and blind over Tsukune as Arial was over Dark.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Exaggerated; Falla didn't just kill her own parents, she wiped out her whole race with the exception of herself and Luna.
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: In Act III chapters 23 and 24, after Ahakon has a dream about Yukari that leads to him calling her name in his sleep, Apoch and Astreal begin to mistreat Yukari to the extent that they outright try to murder her, fearing she might take him away from them. In the latter chapter, their violent actions, combined with the fact that Ahakon was caught in the crossfire and nearly killed by Apoch and Astreal's attack while trying to save Yukari, end up causing Ahakon to break up with them in favor of Yukari, the very thing they were trying to prevent.
* SneezeCut: In Act I chapter 7, several characters mention Mizore and her tendencies of StealthHiBye and being an overall StealthExpert. Each time, it cuts to Mizore sneezing in the Newspaper Club room, with Yukari thinking she's catching a cold.
* SerialRapist: The original Jovian and Jacqueline, during their lifetime, rape Felucia, Kyouko (twice), Apoch, and Astreal. In an aversion of DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnFemale, Tsukune and co. are absolutely furious to discover this.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: During the climax of Act III, Tsukune and his group all launch an attack on Kiria's facility to prevent him from using the Chrono Displacement spell to remake history in his own image. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and everyone is killed in the ascent except Tsukune, who is himself mortally wounded by Kiria before Kiria himself is killed by Luna. Luna, having gone insane with grief as a result of Rason's death, is fully prepared to allow the world to be destroyed by the spell, which Kiria has succeeded in casting, but Tsukune manages to persuade her to instead change the date of the spell to one day in the past so he can go back and save everyone. With his knowledge of the future, Tsukune is able to ensure that everyone survives the attack.
* SexGod: In Act II chapter 32, when Kurumu, Moka, and Mizore consummate their relationships with their respective beaus, they all describe the experience as such. Mizore particularly stands out, as she remarks that having sex with Dark was such a powerful experience that she passed out from the pleasure more than once.
* SexIsViolence: From Act V onwards, Kurumu gains a SuperMode, physically presented by her wings, tail, and claws being enveloped in purple fire, that makes her powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with Tsukune after his RestrainingBolt has been removed. However, her sex drive increases in proportion to her strength, and if it goes on for too long, she'll try to get it on with anyone, and while she prefers Rason when it gets to that point, she's also tried to force herself on Rin and Sun]].
* SexualExtortion: Rather than just stealing her first kiss as in canon, Miyabi actually forces Mizore to have sex with him in exchange for him sparing her mother's life... a deal he does not honor.
* SharedUnusualTrait: Hex has one red eye and one purple eye, while Pandora has one blue eye and one yellow eye and Babylon had one orange eye and one crimson eye.
* SherlockScan: Talon is quite skilled at this. In Act VI chapter 22, upon coming to after his ill-fated battle with Akua and Kahlua, he figures out where exactly he is in the infirmary without even looking around before going over his own physical state with an analytical mind and determining exactly how wounded he is. In chapter 43, after seeing Ling Ling shrug off all of his, Jovian, and Jacqueline's attacks, up to and including decapitation and getting shot in the heart, he takes note of Ling Ling's jiang-shi dress, immunity to pain, and the fact that she's still moving despite all of their attacks, and deduces that Ling Ling is undead.
* ShipperOnDeck: In Act VI, Arial openly favors having Felucia marry Dark over Mizore, completely uncaring about the three's feelings on the subject. She also favors Gin being with Sun over Kokoa, stating outright that Sun is much prettier than Kokoa and doesn't have a serious anger problemOf course, considering Arial's own anger issues and penchant for violence, she Hypocrite has no room whatsoever to talk.. In the case of the latter, after listening to Gin and Kokoa's story about their relationship in chapter 46, Arial accepts that he and Kokoa belong together and Sun had her chance.
* ShootingSuperman: More than once throughout the series, Mizore tries to use her ice powers on fire-based beings, such as Kuyou or Kokoa when the latter is using her overcharge, only for them to NoSell it. In Act III, Kuyou even lampshades this when she tries it on him after he goes OneWingedAngel, pointing out that she should know by now that it won't hurt him.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: Dark and Kenzo's preferred method of getting Felucia to shut up, if only briefly, is by blowing her head off with a shotgun.
* ShoutOut: In Act I chapter 33, Kokoa shows up to the school dance dressed as Freddy Krueger.
* ShroudedInMyth: The chronofly species was very secretive until their near-extinction, though Ahakon's father had heard some stories about them.
* ShutUpHannibal:
** In Act II chapter 25, Dark gives one to Miyabi after the latter declares a NotSoDifferentRemark:
-->Miyabi: You think you're so innocent. There's blood on your hands, too. Far more than mine.\
Dark: Wrong. That blood is on Fairy Tale. I was misled, I was lied to, and I was used. But unlike you, Miyabi, I refused to remain a pawn in their game. And unlike you, I will live to see the sunrise.
** In Act IV chapter 11, Apoch gives Falla a rather pointed one:
-->Falla: Really? You think any of you can defy me? I'm a chronofly, the queen of my race!\
Apoch: You're no queen. You're just another murderer.
** In Act IV chapter 18, in response to Hitomi's rants that petrifying her students is right, Apoch gives her a rather violent response:
-->Hitomi: What I'm doing is right! What I'm doing is just! What I'm doing must be done! [gets ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice by Apoch]\
Apoch: And I'm doing... what you've had coming.
** In Act IV chapter 27, Tsukune gets such a moment with Hokuto:
-->Hokuto: So naïve to the ways of the world, Tsukune, so full of optimism and hope as your girlfriend here. I, however, have seen the world for how it truly is, and what I am doing is right, Tsukune.\
Tsukune: You know nothing of the world, Hokuto!
** In Act V chapter 37, Kyouko gives one to Evil!Falla as well while beating her up:
-->Evil!Falla: You miserable little insect! I'll tear you apart for that!\
Kyouko: FUCK YOU!!
* SilentSnarker: Sun pulls this off, writing down quite a few zingers on her sketchpad. Best shown in this exchange between herself and Kokoa in Act VI chapter 17:
-->Kokoa: If you so much as touch him, if you even try to undress him with your eyes, I will beat you into a bloody smear on the ground! Do you hear me?!\
Sun: [writing'] If I really wanted to steal Gin away from you, I'd just charm him into loving me and charm you into jumping into a river. And for the record, who can't hear you when you're screaming all the time?
* SingleTargetSexuality: Felucia is strictly Dark-sexual, outright stating that he's the only man she could ever love.
* SirSwearsALot: Felucia is easily the most foul-mouthed member of the cast. Lampshaded in Act III chapter 23, after her brief confrontation with Apoch and Astreal over their mistreatment of Yukari:
-->Felucia: I asked why the fuck are they being so fucking mean to their friend and acting like total bitches.\
Kurumu: Going to assume you used those exact words.\
Felucia: Well, duh.
* SkilledButNaive:
** Rason is a talented fighter and easily acclimates with Tsukune's group, but in Act II, he has to be specifically told that no matter how strong the Dark Lords are, Fairy Tale's usage of human weapons and technology still makes them a serious threat.
** Akua and Kahlua are the beautiful and powerful eldest daughters of Issa Shuzen, to the extent that they can effortlessly defeat Inner Moka and Tsukune in their first fight, but in Act III, they're genuinely shocked that Kiria's plan to TimeTravelForFunAndProfit, which they helped him with in hopes of giving their father a place in the new world he hoped to create, would have been entirely for his own benefit, and part of said plan was killing their father.
* SmugSnake: Throughout Act III chapters 30 and 31, Kano simply laughs off the girls' threats as he's blackmailing and photographing them, confident that, between the pictures he's taken and their current shaky situation in the academy, he's untouchable. He's proven wrong at the end of chapter 31 when Luna eats the entire back half of his head as he's about to force himself on Mizore.
* SmugSuper:
** Hokuto. Throughout Acts III and IV, he smugly brushes off Tsukune and co.'s numerous death threats and vows they'll kill him, believing there's nothing they can do to stop him from reviving Alucard, and while holding Moka hostage on his airship during Act IV, he leaves her unbound because, even with his Holy Lock keeping his power in check, he's firmly convinced that Moka poses no threat to him at all. When Tsukune, now a full vampire, attacks him in a rage and effortlessly beats him into the ground, even after Hokuto has gone OneWingedAngel, Hokuto is in absolute disbelief that he's being overpowered.
** Hex Lagon. In Act VI, he easily shrugs off the gang's attempts to threaten him and even laughs about it, outright telling him that all they're doing is amusing him.
* SneezeCut: In Act I chapter 7, Kurumu, Ruby, and Moka mention Mizore at several points (her stalking skills, her penchant for surprising people, etc.). Each time, it cuts back to Mizore sneezing, leading to Yukari believing that she's catching a cold.
* TheSoCalledCoward: During his screen time, Hokuto is called a coward on more than one occasion by Tsukune and the gang, and for good reason; Hokuto is perfectly willing to use hostages, such as Felucia and Tsukune's family, as leverage to get his way, and typically lets his CoDragons, Jovian and Jacqueline, do the fighting for him while he makes a VillainExitStageLeft. However, when Tsukune corners him at Alucard's tomb during the climax of Act IV, Hokuto decides to cut loose and prove just how powerful and deadly he really is.
* TheSociopath:
** Ghaldin Rayazo, the former master of Apoch and Astreal, is a cruel and sadistic mercenary who sees the Ezrana sisters not as people, but as Living Weapons he can use however he pleases, physically and verbally abusing them whenever they defy him or disobey even the slightest order. When he appears to reclaim them in Act I and discovers they placed a mind control spell on Dark and Rason to kill him for them, only for it to barely function at all, rather than simply break the spell and take his leave with the Ezranas, he decides on a whim to use it to his advantage by seizing control of the boys as well to give himself more slaves, directly ordering them to kill Mizore and Kurumu, their respective girlfriends, by ripping their hearts out all with a smirk on his face.
** Hokuto Kaneshiro is depicted as such here. During his screen time, he effortlessly manipulates Tsukune and his group, fooling them into believing he's on their side until he reveals that he personally orchestrated Kuyou's attack on Yokai Academy as a distraction so he could steal an ArtifactOfDoom from the school; in the final chapter of Act III, he shows little to no reaction when Kiria, whom he had a VillainousFriendship with, is killed, stating that this simply proves that he was right and Kiria's plan was doomed from the start; if anything, he's happy that Kiria is dead because now he can enact his own EvilPlan as per their IGaveMyWord deal. On top of it all, the entire extent of his plan is to bring back Alucard and then just sit back and watch as Alucard destroys the planet because he's convinced that all life, human and monster alike, is an evil and meaningless plague that needs to be wiped out.
** The original Falla Cii has shades of this. Intelligent and manipulative? Check; she managed to easily manipulate Kyouko and ultimately trick Tsukune's group, who know from what Falla's good sister Luna told them that Falla is a heartless bitch, into thinking she wants to become a good person. Complete LackOfEmpathy and moral conscience? Check; Falla went so far as to send her own little sister Complica to her death ForTheEvulz, and later outright admitted to Luna and their mother that she viewed Complica as a disgrace to their species and she's happy that her younger sister is dead. Sadistic streak? She gleefully cut off her Good Counterpart's wings, arm, and leg, states afterwards that it was "very easy" for her to do so, and relishes the pain of others to the extent that she openly tells her opponents on more than one occasion that she hopes they scream and beg for mercy before they die. On top of it all, she comes right out and says that nothing matters to her more than herself and power, not even her own family, and goes so far as to mock Tsukune and co. for ever believing that she would "choose family over power."
* SoreLoser: In Act VI, Hex somewhat justifiably accuses the gang of being this in regards to his AbsurdlyHighStakesGame, pointing out while they have no complaints about what he does or takes as long as they win, the very instant they lose, they accuse him of being evil and taking things from them, like Gabriel's angelic grace or Akasha and Falla's hearts, despite the fact that they chose to gamble with such things of their own volition and knew full well what would happen if they lost.
* SoulJar: Doll demons such as Felucia are bound to a special spirit artifact, and can only die is said artifact is destroyed. In Act III, Hokuto successfully tracks down Felucia's artifact, a blue-and-green conch shell, and uses it to extort Felucia into helping him in his plans.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Both Kahlua and Mikogami survive the final battle with Alucard.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: In Act III chapter 40, Falla flat-out tells Luna that Complica was a disgrace to their species and that she was glad she died. Keep in mind that Complica is her little sister.
* SpeakInUnison: Part of the Ezrana sisters' VerbalTic.
* SplitPersonality: As a result of being infected by the ghoul in Act III, Kokoa develops two different personas: one under the control of the ghoul, and one that simply wants to mate with Tsukune whether he's willing or not. She's cured of both when Dark extracts the ghoul's spirit from her body and absorbs it.
* SpoiledBrat: Arial Kuyumaya has shades of this, constantly throwing destructive temper tantrums when she hears criticism or doesn't get her way, as well as openly expecting Mizore to respect her despite being a Jerkass who tried to murder her in a jealous rage. In Act VI chapter 15, Moka flat-out calls her "horrible and rotten" to her face.
* SpottingTheThread: In Act I chapter 30, after their DivideAndConquer tactics work, Rarosun and Surason decide to give Rason and Dark the final push to kill each other by morphing into Mizore and Kurumu and egging them on to do so. Unfortunately for them, by that point, Mizore has been marked as Dark's soul mate, and Rason can sense his bond with Kurumu, thus easily allowing the boys to see through their disguises and realize they had been tricked.
* SquishyWizard: Jovian and Jacqueline, or at least the originals who served as Hokuto's CoDragons. They're noted to have immeasurable magical reserves, with Apoch's LaserBlade and their own powers being the only known weapons or powers thus far that can actually penetrate their barriers or deflect their energy beams, but have been shown to be rather poor physical fighters; in both of their major fights in Acts IV and V, the minute someone actually bypasses their defenses, they go down rather easily.
* StabTheScorpion: In Act II chapter 21, Dark seemingly aims a gun at Rason, about to shoot him, to which Rason yells, "Whoa, whoa! Same team!" Dark fires... and headshots a Fairy Tale operative that had snuck up behind Rason.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: In Act VI, Felucia points out to Dark that he could solve a lot of problems if he simply stood up to Arial and told her how he feels instead of just sitting back and doing nothing while Mizore jumps through hoops and endures all manner of mistreatment to earn Arial's approval. Sadly, Dark can't bare going against Arial's wishes, even if it costs him a happy life with Mizore.
* StartXToStopX: In Acts III and IV, Hokuto claims that his plan is to bring about peace, and that all life on Earth, human and monster alike, is a plague; therefore, in order to achieve true peace, Hokuto intends to revive Alucard and kick back and watch as Alucard kills every living thing on the planet.
* StealthExpert: In Act VI, Talon manages to sneak into the Shuzen castle unseen by both the guards and Akua and Kahlua themselves not once, but twice.
* TheStoic: Dark is nearly always cool, calm, and collected, shows little emotion, and is typically seen with a blank expression on his face. When Mizore is in danger, he becomes NotSoStoic.
* StoryBreakerPower:
** In Act III and onwards, Luna and Falla's chrono magic easily makes them among the most powerful of Tsukune's gang, if not the most powerful, to the extent that they were instrumental in the gang's defeat of Alucard in Act IV. Naturally, the author keeps coming up with ways to keep them from going all out to prevent them from rendering everyone else useless, such as the Almighty's law forbidding them from actual TimeTravel, the risk of chrono dementia, the risk of getting preyed upon by chrono wraiths, and Babylon keeping track of their chrono magic in order to capture them.
** In Act IV onwards, Tsukune, now a full-blooded vampire, is so powerful that, when he goes all out while BrainwashedAndCrazy in Act V chapter 10, just one kick leaves Moka near-death. Naturally, he also ends up suffering from vampiric bloodlust, and has to be TrappedInAnotherWorld by Headmaster Mikogami for the rest of Act V and all of Act VI, and thus unable to help in the fight against Babylon, to get his cravings under control.
* StrawNihilist: In Act IV, Hokuto states that both humans and monsters are equal bastards and could never hope to co-exist, hence why he's trying to resurrect Alucard to destroy the world:
-->Hokuto: You see, I've seen some truly horrible things in life, Moka. You'd be surprised how similar humans and monsters really are. How they both claim they desire peace, yet both destroy everything around them. How they both claim they can love, yet they both hurt and attack everything different. You see, it doesn't matter if you are human or a monster, a life is a life. And all lives are trash. All lives are a waste. Everything that lives only wants to live for the sake of living, and will step on anything to get its wish. Monsters, humans, they all claw at any vain attempt to live on, both killing anything that seems different or strange in fear of its own existence. There is no difference, Moka. All life is evil.
* StubbornMule: Throughout Acts V and VI, Arial takes this trope up to eleven, repeatedly insisting that she and Dark are soul mates and brushing off all attempts to reason with her; not even getting beaten within an inch of her life by Mizore gets through to her. It's only after her actions nearly drive Dark over the DespairEventHorizon and get him hit by an HDA vehicle that she finally listens to reason, and even then, she stubbornly refuses to accept Dark and Mizore's relationship.
* SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum:
** In Act III chapter 50, Luna, after killing Kiria, has gone so insane with grief over Rason's death that she's willing to let the Chrono Displacement spell destroy the world, but Tsukune manages to get through to her and change the spell date to one day, allowing him to go back and save everyone.
** In Act IV, the extent of Hokuto's plan is to revive Alucard and then just sit back and watch as Alucard destroys the world, because he's firmly convinced that all life, human and monster alike, is an evil and meaningless plague that must be eradicated.
* SuperPersistentPredator: Chrono wraiths, the natural enemy of chronoflies. Once they sense a chronofly, they will never stop hunting them until either they catch and eat them, or until the wraith itself is slain.
* SuperSoldier: Fairy Tale has made several of them, one such example being Talon Ryashen. As of Act VI chapter 49, it's revealed that they're also making clones of Tsukune's group and enhancing them with the improved Blackheart serum, thus greatly enhancing their strength while removing their limitations; the Mizore clone, for example, is heat-resistant and can produce ice with a temperature of absolute zero.
* SuperpowerMeltdown: Koka nearly undergoes one in Act II, when her aura flares up to the extent that she starts to burn up from the inside. The ghoul inside Tsukune stops it by taking over and having Kokoa attack him to use up the built-up energy, stating that with the amount of power Kokoa has built up, he would be the only one to survive a direct hit.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** From Act II onwards, anyone who uses modern weapons, like guns and missiles, is treated as a very serious threat. Dark even points out that all Fairy Tale would really need to take on a Dark Lord as powerful as Issa Shuzen is said to be is a single nuclear missile, with Mizore explaining to Rason that as powerful as monster might and magic is, human technology and weapons are superior.
** In Act III, Apoch and Astreal become the girlfriends of Ahakon, and when they realize that Ahakon is developing feelings for Yukari, they start being bitches to her to the extent that they try to kill her in plain sight, earning them a vicious, and karmic, beating from Inner Moka. In the very next chapter, after Yukari refuses to back down, despite Ahakon having explicitly told them that he didn't want them to be mean to Yukari anymore, they get in a fight with Yukari again and are only stopped from killing her by Ahakon throwing her out of the way of the blast, with Ahakon himself only surviving because Luna pulled him out of the way just in time. Immediately afterwards, Ahakon, taking into consideration the fact that they tried to kill Yukari twice out of petty jealousy, as well as himself, along with his own newfound feelings for Yukari and the realization that agreeing to date them both was a mistake and not fair to either, dumps Apoch and Astreal for Yukari right then and there.
** Arial has spent all of her afterlife, as well as all of Act V and most of Act VI, infatuated with Dark because he turned on his master in a rage after being forced to kill her. It isn't until chapter 27, when the reveal of her Yandere nature toward him leads him to have a nervous breakdown and nearly die, that Arial is finally forced to acknowledge that her purpose is to serve as Dark's guardian angel/mother figure and nothing more... which leads to her declaring that Mizore has no right to Dark and must actually prove herself worthy before she can actually marry her, and eventually dropping that completely and deciding that Felucia would be a better match for him. In chapter 50, after Dark tells her that he'll fly a helicopter next time and "take her for a ride she'll really remember," Arial's InnerMonologue reveals that despite her acceptance that she and Dark will never be involved romantically, her feelings haven't just magically gone away and are still lingering, which helps to explain her ongoing hostility toward Mizore.
* SwissCheeseSecurity: In Act VI, Talon is able to effortlessly break into the home of Issa Shuzen, one of the Dark Lords of the monster world, not once, but twice, the second time with three other people helping him. After the second time, Akua and Kahlua outright lampshade how poor their security is since Talon was able to break in and try to kill them so easily.
