The Omniverse is a PlayByPostGame found on omniverse-rpg.com. It is notable among others of its kind for having an established set of game mechanics centered around the procurement and expenditure of points earned during the course of in-character participation. Unlike certain other open-world roleplaying games, characters in The Omniverse are checked by rules and regulations to keep them balanced and fair. This is not to say that their power is limited: they simply must earn the right to use it.

While the game's story is open ended, there is an overarching story involving The Omniverse's resident deity, Omni, and how characters cope with being involuntarily pulled into his personal universe, or the Omniverse. The Omniverse is divided into large realms called Verses, each with its own theme, ex. Camelot, the medieval fantasy setting, or Coruscant, the sci-fi setting. There are several existing NPC factions vying for superiority of the Omniverse, as well as a multitude of rogue elements each trying to gain power. Player characters called into the Omniverse by Omni are called Primes, and they are granted incredible powers of immortality and creation (within reason). The Omniverse contains Primes who are both original characters as well as characters derived or taken from existing media of all kinds.

The Omniverse has been in operation for almost two years now. Through the diligent work of its Admin, staff and dedicated player base, there have been many defining stories that have shaken the entire site, and many more being planned.

* AbortedArc: Though rare, a story in progress will sometimes grind to a halt if the storyteller or one of its participants stops posting. The most notable example would be the Darkseid arc.
* ActionGirl: There are more than a few of these in the Omniverse, but the premier example would have to the Bandit With No Name.
* AffablyEvil: Most of the site's major villains make a concerted effort to be pleasant and considerate to those around them, both out of a sense of dignity and a need to avoid suspicion...though when it comes to just how affable they are, YMMV.
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: This happened big time when LAW launched a surprise attack on New Babylon's capital of Nippur. It didn't help that the town's resident Primes had just finished a fight.
* TheAlcatraz: Impel Down, located in the deepest reaches of the Vasty Deep.
* AnotherDimension: The Omniverse is made up of several component 'verses', each with its own environmental theme. In addition, the Omniverse itself is stated as being a separate reality from other universes.
* AnyoneCanDie: And how! Though Primes do technically have the ability to come back from the dead, the ever present threat of murder-kill hangs over all Omniverse denizens, no matter how safe they think they are.
* ArcWords: "It's ME!" appears prominently in the thread, "Firewall."
* BadassDriver: Doesn't happen a whole lot since it takes time to summon mounts, but people like Drake Oneir and Judge Dredd can pull off some truly ridiculous stunts.
* BadassBoast: [[spoiler: Diablo's appearance at the end of Retribution IV: Rebirth.]]
** [[spoiler: "The Omniverse exists because I let it exist."]]
* {{BFG}}: There is, of course, the namesake weapon toted by Doomguy himself, but Leviathan's Negotiator also applies.
* BeachEpisode: I mean, the thread is '''''literally called that'''''
* BeamOWar: This happened between Gilgamesh and Proto Mouse during the assault of New Babylon, though it didn't last quite as long as these sorts of contests usually do.
* BigBad: There are several powerful Primes seen as universal enemies throughout the Omniverse, primarily Diablo and Emperor Palpatine. Some people also identify Omni as this.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: A lot of factions and characters do not concern themselves with 'normal' perceptions of good and evil.
* BossRush: If pursuing the Colosseum escape method from the Underverse, the story can rapidly turn into this.
* BottledHeroicResolve: Certain items can be purchased to achieve this effect in a fight that isn't going as planned. The mack daddy of them all is the Senzu Bean.
* BreakTheBadass: This happened quite a bit in Dante's Abyss, but another notable example would be Ganondorf's banishment.
* CannonFodder: Stormtroopers. Many have been slain at the hands of newbie primes.
* CapturedByCannibals: Though it wasn't explicitly stated, this is heavily implied to be the cause of Cat's first death.
* CharacterLevel: If you gain enough OM (see ExperiencePoints below,) you level up. Enough levels unlocks tiers of transformations, assists, and super moves.
* ChargedAttack: With how Omniphysics (read: gameplay balancing) works, moves get stronger as long as they have appropriate drawback to them. This is a popular way of going about it.
* CityPlanet: Coruscant. Technically.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Violet is, so far, not having a pleasant time in the Underverse. Neither are Gilgamesh and Ganondorf, for that matter.
** We can probably just say "The Underverse" and call it done.
* CompetitiveBalance: Applied to everyone in the Omniverse. Unless, of course, you get a lot more OM.
* TheCorruption: The premise of the Dark Data saga. A being called Nebula has planted numerous objects called Dark Chips around the Omniverse, and it's giving people incredible powers and evil tendencies.
* CoveredInGunge: The arena for the second round of the Camelot Tournament was set up for this to happen.
* CurbStompBattle: Being common Mooks, the Stormtroopers may often find themselves on the receiving end of this.
** Surprisingly enough, subverted when Mick Rory got into a fight with them. One of them didn't even fight back, but the other one landed a couple good shots before they died.
* CrackPairing: There is a [[http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2330 topic dedicated to this.]]
* {{Cyberspace}}: The Dataverse.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Bonbon Sunshine. [[spoiler: In her past, was the result of adultery between her known mother and a Hobbit, which explains her height. Both were executed as a result, but afterwards, her father started implementing all these changes for more rights for the people. The townsfolk didn't accept it, and still highly discourage things such as homosexuals despite them being widely accepted. She's a lesbian, and yet her own uncle has apparently stated "gays are the root of all evil." God damn.]]
* DeathIsNotPermanent: For Primes, at least. When killed, they will resurrect at The Fountain of Infinity within a few days. For Secondaries, however, death very much IS permanent.
* {{Determinator}}: Many characters, but special props to Strazio Rockwell for surviving nearly all of Dante's Abyss 15 with a multitude of grievous injuries.
** And a minor mention to Ragna the Bloodedge, who somehow survived an encounter with multiple Stormtrooper squads, a couple of UGs, and a fall through several stories into a trash pit.
* DirtForcefield: Harshly subverted in the fight between Nealaphh and Gildarts.
* DownTheDrain: [[http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1541 The Leviathan arc]] by Doomguy takes place in a waterlogged old base, leading down into a watery cavern filled with fishmen.
* EldritchAbomination: A few Primes are these in disguise, but they can also be found existing naturally within the darker corners of the Omniverse.
* EvilEmpire: The original.
** Depending on your viewpoint on the matter, Diablo's Army may count.
* ExperiencePoints: in the form of Omnilium (or just OM for short.) You gain it automatically from posting in character, measuring the amount based on character count. OM can be used for purchasing stuff for your character.
* {{Expy}}: Naturally.
* {{Face}}: True heroes are hard to find in a jaded world. Proto Man and Mickey Mouse (unless you listen to what Deadpool has to say) perhaps best embody true babyface-dom.
* FanFics: Fake fanfiction has been written for the Omnverse version of the internet as jokes, many of them ship fics involving player characters.
** In a sense, the whole site is prety much one big CrossoverFic.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Primes are technically immortal, but if they become especially troublesome they can be banished to The Underverse, a special hell designed to keep loose-cannon demigods from mucking up the normal Omniverse. It's generally not a fun place.
* FluffyCloudHeaven: The Oververse
* ForcedPrizeFight: A lot of the contestants in Dante's Abyss were not there by choice.
* FusionDance: One of the most powerful techniques that Primes can use is to fuse with one another to form a single gestalt entity. Only those who have invested enough Omnilium in the ability can do so, but it can make for truly terrifying combatants, especially when more than two Primes fuse.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: A fairly important point in the mechanics - moves are not typically restricted by form, nor are there any sorts of elemental weakness chains. However, some may choose to restrict the use of certain moves to certain forms (or otherwise find a way to manually restrict those moves anyway) for the sake of RP fodder.
* GladiatorGames: Played completely straight with the Camelot Tournament. At least this time all of the gladiators were willing participants.
* GodhoodSeeker: A few primes are convinced that they will one day be able to dethrone Omni as master of the Omniverse and take his place. Notable among these are Enel and Chakravartin Wu Kong.
* HeelFaceTurn: Samus to the Empire.
* {{Hell}}: The Underverse.
* {{Hellgate}}: Many of the Verses have hidden portals that lead to the Underverse.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Any time Doomguy and Guu hang out. Also for a short time while Okor was babysitting Rebecca.
* HyperspaceIsAScaryPlace: The Void, essentially.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Averted, surprisingly enough, by Stormtroopers themselves; they have military grade training, and thus are able to hit a target perfectly, given they can see them well enough.
* JungleJapes: The Tangled Green.
* LargeHam: Enel, MADBULL, and Doomguy, to name a few.
* MagnificentBastard: A few Primes evoke this, but the Karl Jak stands out as the most magnificent of them all.
* LethalLavaLand: The Ashen Steppes.
* LimitBreak: The three tiers of Super Moves, as well as Power-Ups and Powered-Up Forms, can prove to be a valuable edge to any Prime.
* MegaCorp: The mysterious Syntech, run by the even more mysterious Karl Jak.
* MindRape: Played straight when Arael showed up in the Secondary Saga.
* MinMaxing: Averted, for the most part. Although stats do have some effect on the outcome of some battles, the rules are balanced and implemented in a way that they are more guidelines than anything else, and it is often a writer's skill that decides the victor in a fight.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Diablo. Also, shout out to Judge Dredd and Gildarts.
** Doomguy. That's literally his name. Doomguy.
* PowerAtAPrice: Primes are technically immortal, are vastly more powerful compared to most secondaries, and are even capable of summoning things out of thin air using the Omnillium within themselves. The downsides? Depending on the item (or secondary,) it takes an excruciatingly long time to summon stuff, and all of their moves must be balanced, preventing any prime from being overpowered. Oh, and their immortality prevents them from ever leaving the Omniverse.
* RespawnPoint: The Fountain of Infinity, located at the center of The Nexus, is where all new Primes and all slain Primes first enter (or reenter) the Omniverse.
* ScienceFantasy: The Omniverse has knights and wizards facing off against Stormtroopers; it is this in droves.
* ShiftingSandLand: The Endless Dunes.
* SiegeEngine: Now with the Forces update, you can buy your very own!
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: The Frozen Fields.
* {{SpiritWorld}}: The Astral Realm. Also the place where dreams take place.
* StylisticSuck: Many of the posts in the Dataverse (the internet Expy of the Omniverse) are intentionally written poorly to keep with the theme.
* SuperSpeed: One of the available powers for purchase.
* SwampsAreEvil: This was shown in droves when it came time to cross the aptly named Swamp of Sorrows in the Secondary Saga.
* WarriorPrincess:
** Princess Guu fought off Gilgamesh from the Tangled Green, a move that gained her the title to begin with.
** Princess Luna single handedly cleaned up most of the Astral Realm after years of tireless combat and work.
** Princess Bonbon Sunshine is an evil variant. She lead a town full of untrained commoners to conquer an orc city, and leads an army that’s often outsourced by people in Camelot.
* WhamLine: When Shang and Atelos reached Omni in “Kingdom Come,” he had a few surprises for everyone.
** “Your home worlds are doing just fine. [[spoiler:You’re doing just fine, in your home worlds.]]”
** “[[spoiler:Try summoning a portal out of here. Go ahead, try it. If that’s what you want, anyway.]]”
** "[[spoiler:The Omniverse exists because I let it exist.]]" Cue the ParanoiaFuel.
* WhereDoesHeGetAllThoseWonderfulToys: With Omnilium, Primes can have any number of wacky weapons, as long as they are balanced.
* WildCard: Oh, the tweener. Embodied by Samus Aran, the Blood-Stained 'Hero' of the Omniverse, if you listen to what Karl Jak has to say. Gilgamesh masquerades as a tweener by killing 'bad guys' (The Empire).
* YourSoulIsMine: Shang Tsung's gimmick, but also a thing any Prime can do; as everything is sustained via Omnilium, one could actually drain away OM from a defeated foe as an extra-torturous death. [[spoiler:In terms of gameplay, it doesn't make a difference. One could just as easily kill a foe outright and gain the same amount of OM, and no OM penalties are actually recorded anyways.]]
