''[[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/can-you-feel-the-sunshine-a-sonic-the-hedgehog-quest.115392/ Can You Feel the Sunshine]]'' is a [[PlayByPostGames play-by-post]] [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Sonic]] Quest roleplay hosted on [[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/ Sufficient Velocity]] by [=RomanceNinja=], combining elements of the different continuties to form a [[AlternateUniverse new world.]]

It all starts one day when a nameless hedgehog is sitting and enjoying the day on a beautiful green hill. When his critter friends are suddenly taken away by mysterious metallic beings, that blur starts a journey to rescue his friends and take a step forward into a big and bright world, filled with adventure and excitement.

!! '''''This Quest Contains Examples Of''''':
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Many characters suffer this as result of the fused setting. Of course, the most notable example is Sonic, who through the years was anything from a simple guy living in Green Hills to a descendant from a royal family. [[spoiler: If Anti-Sonic is anything to judge, then this Sonic may have a background in the Kingdom of Acorn, as his version of Jules was a scion for his land, but there's no way to know yet.]]
** Tails father from the Archie comics, Amadeus, was a upper echelon member of Acorn's Kingdom military forces that was robotized by Robotnik, while his wife, Rosemary, suffered a similar fate. In this world, while Amadeus was a cop in South Island, he was never more than that and retired after losing his eye, while Rosemary suffers from DeathByAdaptation.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Mighty and Ray are characters that first appear on the arcade game, Videogame/SegaSonicTheHedgehog. Here, they appear in the middle of Sonic's first adventure in Star Light Zone.
** A more roundabout example with Silver/Metal Sonic. While the machine has yet to take it's iconic design, the marks of his personality are already there: his hatred for Sonic, his thoughts about being the original one, his willpower. Time will tell what shall be of him.
** Fang the Sniper appears earlier as well, way before his debut in Videogame/SonicTripleTrouble. His Team Hooligans companions, [[Videogame/SonicTheFighters Bean the Dynamite and Bark the Polar Bear]] also show up earlier, as does Honey, who was added in 2012's re-release.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Sonic was never a bad guy per se, but a fair amount of series portray him as being capable of being a jerk to others around him. Here, while still capable of being annoying, the hedgehog is very nicer to his friends and is willing to recognize when he screws up.
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: Most of the omakes focus in the other characters of the universe, and what they are doing while Sonic is adventuring. The most frequent examples of this are the Robotnik Reports, a series that focuses on the [[BigBad titular]] villain and his observations about his life, his artifacts, and his enemies.
** One notable instance is a snippet focused in what Ray was doing in Star Light [[spoiler: while Sonic and Mighty engaged Silver Sonic]], watching as he supervises the evacuation of the city and then engaging against Scratch and Grounder in the remaining Egg Mobile boss.
* AlternateUniverse: This quest mixes elements of multiple continuities in an attempt to make something brand new. Notable elements include:
** The presence of Johnny and Porker, notable figures in the Fleetway comics.
** [[spoiler: A canon omake reveals that a version of [[WesternAnimation/SonicUnderground Manic]] exists as a mercenary. In the same work, Rough and Tumble from IDW are mentioned.]]
** The Kingdom of Acorn comes straight from the Archie Comics, though Sally was introduced earlier.
** One notable alteration seems to be in regards to [[spoiler: Blaze and Scourge's dimensions. Where in the Archie comics they are implied to be separate places, in this fic they are the same, with Blaze even recognizing the Anti-Sonic as the son of the scion from the Kingdom of Acorn.]]
** Scratch, Grounder and Breezie comes from WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog, though the latter has some notable roles in the Archie continuity.
* AmnesiacHero: The oldest memory that Sonic has is of him being rescued by the critters of Green Hill Zone. There is no sign, however, of how did he ended up in that position in the first place - or why he was in that place at all.
* AngerBornOfWorry: What is the problem Johnny has with [[spoiler: Sonic's approach in forming the Freedom Fighters.]] He wants a group made of the best fighters in the isle, meaning they should be the finest in their tasks and putting the least amount of people in risk.
* ArcVillain: For the Prologue, Eggman. He's the reason why Sonic leaves Green Hill Zone behind, as he kidnaps many of his friends to turn into Badniks. Before that, his forces also dominate most of South Island, causing chaos and destruction in it's wake.
** Fang the Sniper sets himself to be one for the next acts. He offers a contract to protect one of Robotnik's bases and has no qualms about shooting Sonic down.
** For the Flickies Island adventure, we have Robotnik again as the mastermind for the appearance of Badniks on the island, [[spoiler: Anti-Sonic as a straighter case of being a villainous force, and [[HeroAntagonist Blaze the Cat]], having been dragged to Sonic's dimension by accident, and her own issues making her becoming more of an AloofAlly.]]
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Very much true for Sonic [[spoiler: as commander of the Freedom Fighters.]] Even taking his feats against Robotnik, he manages to [[CurbstompBattle overwhelm his opponent]] in the mock fights between his group.
* BerserkButton: Slowly and surely, the Eggman nickname for Robotnik. While he admits it's fitting, he also dislikes it immensely.
* BittersweetEnding: The end of the introduction arc. Much of South Island was destroyed by Robotnik's invasion, many people got killed, and [[spoiler: Ray and Mighty end up being captured by the SSSSS Squad.]] However, Scrap Brain is destroyed by the power of the Chaos Emeralds and he's forced to retreat with the tail between the legs, while Sonic and co. can now enjoy this peace to prepare for future invasions and gather allies to fight back.
* BuffySpeak: As a result of being isolated from society for the longest time, Sonic resorts to this to refer to things he does not know. It gets better with time.
* ChildProdigy: Tails. While young, his father recognizes that he is smart for his age -to the point he has no issue in letting him become part of [[spoiler: the Freedom Fighters.]]
* CommonalityConnection: [[spoiler: Sonic and Blaze. Both are fast on their feet and serve as protectors for their lands - South and North Island for him, and the Sol Empire for Blaze. This is part of why she decides to follow Sonic, along with him showing his kind nature. However, years of training and loneliness made it so that Blaze didn't trust anyone easily, which led to her knocking him out and trying to solve the issues of their worlds alone.]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The trio of Scratch, Grounder and Breezie. The first two are the bane of Robotnik's life, with the latter serving as their [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder minder]]. They also were the responsibles in giving what is Sonic's first true defeat -when even [[SuperPrototype Silver Sonic]] couldn't and also [[spoiler: captured Ray and Mighty [[OffScreenMomentOfAwesome while Robotnik fought Sonic.]]]]
* CurbStompBattle: Happens against Silver Sonic. In the first fight, Sonic and Honey barely manage to eek a win, while in the second, when he ambushes them, he easily puts the latter out of commission and nearly kills the former. [[spoiler: If it wasn't for the Special Zone being activated, he would likely have died there.]]
** [[spoiler: Reversed in the rematch on Star Light Zone. Although Silver Sonic had been upgraded and given a Chaos Emerald to use as a power source, a well-timed ambush by Porker gave Mighty and Sonic the opening to put him down with ease.]]
* EpicFail: Early in his adventure, Sonic meets an ambush by Grounder and [[FemmeFatale Breezie]]. He doesn't fall for it, and attempts to use [[ButtMonkey Scratch's]] head as a [[FastballSpecial projectile]] to harm them. Not only does Sonic miss, he misses so hard that it leaves him wide open to being struck by the other two machines, and he only didn't die thanks to Honey's intervention.
* EvilGenius: Robotnik, as always. An evil scientist who uses his prowess in robotics to use [[KickTheDog little animals as fuel]] for his forces and wants to take over the world.
** To a lesser extent, Snively. Robotnik realizes that he and his nephew aren't that different, and offers him the chance to become his second-in-command and assistant, recognizing his potential.
* FantasticRacism: In this world, Mutants are not seen in a good light. Poor Tails is bullied for most of his life because of his two tails.
** There's also a mutual grudge between Mobians and humanity, born from years of war between themselves. Each side keeps to themselves these days, though some places, like the Kingdom of Acorn, have occasional visits from part of humans, like GUN and Eggman.
* FateWorseThanDeath: For Badniks, Scrapnik Island, a place where all the defective machines and any Badnik that is foolish enough to anger Eggman -such as poor Coconuts -are sent to.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: A Mobian blue hedgehog that barely knew anything outside of his home becomes, in the span of a month, the bane of an evil genius's life.
* FurryConfusion: Normal animals and Mobians -essentially anthropomorphic animals -exist simultaneously in this setting. Sonic even finds a small hedgehog in his walks after defeating Eggman.
* TheGadfly: Sonic, mostly towards Robotnik and his forces for [[JerkAss obvious reasons]], but he can still be rather playful with his allies.
* HammerSpace: Turns out that Mobians have this. Called internal storage, it allows a Mobian to carry a certain amount of things depending on how strong they are.
* TheHero: Sonic, of course. His triumph against Robotnik leads to him being called [[RedBaron Hero of the Islands.]]
* HeroicRROD: After narrowly escaping Silver Sonic, this happens to Sonic, heavily wounded from his battle against him, and carrying an unconscious Honey to a safe place. It takes a long time for him to be back on his feet.
* ItCanThink: Silver Sonic. At first, Eggman created it to hunt down what he marked as a pesky annoyance in his invasion of Green Hill Zone. Then, a malfunction and some heavy hits made it develop a seething hatred for him and the willpower to overwrite his code to hunt him down over everything else -to the point that it surpasses all of Eggman's reservations on letting such a machine keep working and make it a new frame.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: The dynamic between the mayors of the two isles. Only Sonic understands that this is more than a rivalry, though.
* MadScientist: Robotnik. Smart enough to find a way to use critters and plants as fuel for his creations, and hellbent in [[TakeOverTheWorld taking over the world]]. If G.U.N is anything to say, it runs in the family -although there are [[GoMadFromTheIsolation reasons for this.]]
* McGuffin: The Chaos Emeralds. The reason why Robotnik attacks the island is to find them and use their power to further his goals. No one in the Isles knows exactly why he wants it, though.
** The Time Stones, another set of artifacts that Robotnik wants for himself. He needs to wait for the coming of Little Planet to make a move for them, though.
* NotQuiteFlight: With Ray. He's a Flying Squirrel, meaning he technically glides through the air instead.
* OriginalCharacter: [[spoiler: The first interaction of Freedom Fighters is composed nearly entire of these: the only non-OC cast is Sonic, and eventually Johnny and Porker.]]
* OutsideContextProblem: Sonic, and how. No one expected a hedgehog to live in the reserve of Green Hill, no one could predict he would go straight away after Eggman after he messed with his animal friends, no one ever saw a Mobian so fast, and absolutely no one expected him to actually succeed in defeating Eggman! Whew.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Sonic misunderstands Johnny's plans for [[spoilers: the Freedom Fighters]] which leads to him stopping talking with him for weeks. Subverted in that Johnny ''also'' didn't tell his idea to Sonic, so it's a case of misunderstandings on both sides.
** [[spoiler: Played straight with Blaze. From Sonic's impression, she was strong, but was always alone, which is part of why he speaks so much about trust. However, he never caught that she had full confidence in her skills, and, although she liked the time together, eventually decided to keep walking alone as she questioned why would ''he'' trust her.]]
* ProperlyParanoid: Sally is chided by how wary she is of Kintobor, even being chided a few times by her father, but it turns out she has very concrete reasons for that.
* TemptingFate: After a failed assault against the refugees of Star Light, Robotnik orders Scratch, Grounder, and Breezie to put themselves on the frontline against Sonic and his allies, essentially dooming them to destruction, even remarking he didn't expect to see those three again. Not only they ''do'' return, [[spoiler: they also manage to capture Ray and Mighty.]]
* TerribleTrio: The Hooligans: you have the brainy Fang, leading the bomb expert Bean, and the silent giant Bark as an infamous unit.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: After the prologue, Robotnik develops this towards Sonic after his defeat. So much so that he dares him to destroy his two remaining bases in the archipelago and [[spoiler: is willing to reveal where he imprisoned Mighty and Ray to goad Sonic in doing that.]]
* ShockAndAwe: OC Character Static the Snail specializes on this trope, as a result of her mutation.
* SuperSpeed: Sonic, of course. Leaps and bounds is the fastest character in the isles. [[spoiler: He meets his match very early in Anti-Sonic and Blaze.]]
* SuperStrength: Mighty's bread and butter, being the strongest of Sonic's friends.
* StuffBlowingUp: Bean's specialty, as an expert in demolition. Shockingly, none of his explosions ever killed someone.
* VillainTeamUp: Fang does one with Robotnik, as he sees the opportunity to make quick buck by working with him. It also helps he's wary of Sonic's presence in the islands. Team Hooligan also counts as one.
* WalkingTheEarth: In this continuity, Amy does this after losing her parents to a disease. She does so to find the fate set in stone in her cards to meet her special one.
* WhamShot: Nothing says "things are about to get tense" than [[spoiler: than meeting Anti-Sonic (aka SCOURGE) in the second adventure!]]
** Not enough? Well, how about meeting [[spoiler: BLAZE early too - and she also recognizes Anti-Sonic, implying that their universes are combined!]]
* WildChild: Sonic is one, having lived most of his life alone in Green Hill with the small animals that inhabited it. However, some of the tropes common to this are subverted: Sonic is very much capable of speaking the same tongue as the other people of the islands and is very much sociable to others.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Robotnik pulls one to allow him and Snively to get protection in the Kingdom of Acorn. It works like a charm, especially after he forges an attack by GUN against him. The only one that remains doubtful of it's intentions is Sally.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Used as a threat by Robotnik towards his thinking Badniks. Fail him enough, and he will dispatch you to Scrapnik Island -as Coconuts discovered the hard way. It's telling that the menace of this is enough to make [[TeethClenchedTeamwork Scratch and Grounder]] get on the same page in the blink of an eye.
