!! Tropes for this episode include:
* AndIMustScream: Angor Rot lures Jim away from his friends and traps him in beams of light. Jim can't move a muscle, not even his mouth. Blinky has to tackle him to free him.
* BlackComedy: After Claire "rescues" [=NotEnrique=] [[ItMakesSenseInContext from Jim's fridge]] and the gang leaves his home, she looks around to make sure no one's looking before chucking her, at the moment human-looking, "brother" like a sack of potatoes into the grass.
* BreakThemByTalking: Angor can easily kill Jim, and he shows it by trapping him without breaking a sweat. He promises, however, to break down first and take away everything he loves.
* CharacterDevelopment: Draal previously stayed with Jim because he was exiled from Trollmarket. Here he comes to check on Blinky, and reveals he's been watching over Jim's mother. Draal also realizes that Strickler is trying to get under Jim's skin.
* AFateWorseThanDeath: What Angor Rot marked Jim for.
* FirstTimeInTheSun: Although the experience is discombobulating at first, Blinky quickly falls in love with the world of daylight, and claims that the sunset is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
* ForcedTransformation: Blinky (thanks to the group's adventure in Argentina) has become human due to getting doused by a number of potions while trying to escape Gatto's stomach, and Vendel says there's no way to cure him without knowing the exact potions. Therefore, Blinky's forced to wait for it to wear off on its own.
* IdiotBall: Blinky steals clothes first rather than get Aargh to tell him what's happening. This means he gets caught and suspected of being a changeling.
* LuredIntoATrap: Angor Rot sets glass golems on Jim, Claire, Toby and Blinky. Then he shows himself to Jim, who gives chase. Jim runs right into a beam trap that paralyzes him.
* MuggedForDisguise: Blinky has quickly stolen various clothes from Trollmarket due to him now being human.
* PretentiousPronunciation: When Jim tries to pass Blinky off as a Guidance Counselor named Mr. Blinky, Blinky covers for the unusual name by claiming it is foreign and properly pronounced "Blink-heh". He even tries to correct Barbara multiple times when she keeps pronouncing it "Blinky".
* SoftGlass: Subverted. Blinky tries to punch the glass golems but they only shed a few glass flakes.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Double-subverted. At first Trollmarket fears that Blinky is a changeling, and Blinky recites a number of facts. Jim still doesn't believe him, until Blinky tells him off in his characteristic British tone.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Blinky pretends to be the school's non-existent guidance counselor around Barbara when she finds him with Jim in their house, telling him that Jim recent actions are due to [[DisappearedDad longtime issues with his father walking out on them]]. Jim isn't amused (considering he ''doesn't'' truly care about his dad) , but it actually helps mend his strained relationship with his mother.
