This episode contains the following tropes:

* AxCrazy: The Jamacian gang is called out for being especially violent and ruthless by Rodriguez.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: Antonio and Desmond used to promote dog fights according to Noogie. [[spoiler: He's lying.]]
* BerserkButton: Crockett reacts violently to the idea of letting Noogie get some amphetamines before they do a deal.
* TheBet: Crockett makes a bet with a pair of fellow vice cops that he can make more busts in a month. The vice cops are subsequently killed when they attempt to arrest the Jamaicans.
* BoxedCrook: Noogie is picked up for hocking stolen merchandise and decides to turn informant.
* CopKiller: Bobby Price and Jake Esteban are two vice cops killed by the Jamaican gang. {{Averted}} in the end with Jake managing to pull through.
* DivorceAssetsConflict: A custody one as Crockett only becomes upset at his divorce when it becomes clear his son is leaving Florida.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Crockett has this expression when Rodriguez does some ObliviousGuiltSlinging about why the two dead cops were playing gunslinger.
* PokeThePoodle: Noogie is a petty fence and dealer that is far from the ruthless gangsters the pair normally deal with.
* PoliceBrutality: Crockett is furious with a cop for beating a confession out of a suspect, especially as it's obvious he didn't actually commit the crimes they're accused of. {{Subverted}} as he still assumes they're guilty and is worried about the case being thrown out on a technicality.
* PrisonRape: Crockett threatens Noogie with this if he doesn't cooperate (the second time).
* RuthlessForeignGangsters: The Jamacian gang is particularly violent and brutal, even shooting a kid in their backstory.
* ScaryBlackMan: Desmond Maxwell proves to be one of these, contrasting to the other characters.
* TheStoolPigeon: It doesn't take much to turn Noogie into an informant.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Crockett and Tubbs get a sudden break in the case when the crook on an unrelated bust they just brought in claims to have vital information. It turns out that the crook, overhearing them, lied in hopes of avoiding jailtime.
* TakingTheKids: Caroline plans to leave the state with her and Crockett's son.
* WouldHurtAChild: The Jamaican gang shot a child during one of their deals. It may or may not have been accidental.
