The Cooper Gang time travels to Medieval England to locate Sly's ancestor, Sir Galleth Cooper. They find out that he is being imprisoned and reduced to performing in a circus by a villain known as the Black Knight.

Meanwhile, Bentley is still thinking about Penelope, and is pretty worried. They hope to find some answers on her whereabouts soon, but first, they have to head for the circus and find Sir Galleth.
----
!! Tropes:

* AmbitionIsEvil: Penelope wants to make billions of dollars by designing weapons. If that's not enough, she also intends to TakeOverTheWorld.
* AndYourLittleDogToo: Penelope intends to wreck the team van and turn it into a clown car out of her jealous hatred towards Murray. In response, Murray performs the preemptive strike on her stronghold.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Bentley in the past has been stated to believe in the supernatural and other anomalous things, having seen and found irrefutable proof in things like ghosts, voodoo-magic, dreamtime-magic, black-market Magitek, sea-monsters, Evil Masks and the likes of Clockwerk. Here though, when Galleth talks about the Black Knight's Moat Monster, Bentley dismisses it as superstition.
* ArcHero: Galleth is the GuestStarPartyMember, although he's a downplayed case, given his halfcocked nature keeps giving the Cooper Gang more problems than dealing with the Black Knight.
* ArcVillain: Penelope as the Black Knight, although she views herself as the BigBad.
* BigDamnHeroes: Bentley comes out of his HeroicBSOD just in time to stop Penelope from killing Sly and Murray, the former pinned down by the destroyed Operation Overlord, and the latter trapped behind a gate with Carmelita and Galleth.
* BiggerOnTheInside: Sly remarks that the circus tent looks way bigger inside than it does on the outside.
* TheCameo: At the start of "Hard Target", look towards the Black Baron's castle. Clockwerk is sitting on one of the towers.
* ClockPunk: The flashlight guards have very noticeable wind-up keys in their design.
* DespotismJustifiesTheMeans: Penelope couldn't care less about anyone else, just as long as she's in power, and is using Bentley's skills to build weapons of mass destruction and keep the money rolling.
* DidYouThinkICantFeel: Penelope doesn't see Bentley as anything other than a MealTicket, even calling him "dumb" while gloating over how she played him like a fool for the money. Once they reunite, Bentley chews Penelope out for using him for her selfish desires without considering his own feelings, and rejecting his FamilyOfChoice out of jealousy. Penelope responds by attacking Bentley and blaming everything on him, causing Bentley to conclude he had been in love with a sociopath.
* DistressedDude: Galleth attempts to fight the Moat Monster by himself, but is eaten alive when he makes the foolish mistake of unplugging it. Carmelita fights the boss to save him.
* TheDragonslayer: Subverted. Being equal parts thief and knight, Sir Galleth jumps at the chance at slaying the Moat Monster... only to get himself eaten, Carmelita coming in to save him.
* FisherKingdom: None of the trio are in their usual gear while StormingTheCastle; Sly wears his Robin Hood outfit while Murray is in a wetsuit from his preemptive attack. Bentley is also controlling the remains of the Moat Monster when he finally shows up.
* FriendVersusLover: Bentley ends up in this dilemma, but sticks with Sly and Murray in the end, leaving Penelope a PsychoExGirlfriend. A rare case that's also combined with UnknownRival.
* HeroicBSOD: Learning the truth about Penelope, in that she's a greedy, sociopathic yandere who hates his two best friends, causes Bentley to tuck inside his shell in despair, but eventually uses his newfound hatred of Penelope to get over his heartbreak and save his best friends from her.
* HiddenDisdainReveal: One of the reasons why Penelope betrayed the gang is because she hates Sly to the point of wanting to murder him. She also hates Murray, and intends to steal his van and turn it into a clown car.
* TheHighMiddleAges: Being set in 1301 A.D. and the allusions to Myth/RobinHood, this is set in the later years of this era.
* InventionalWisdom: Why Penelope programmed her robot guards with personalities where they could feel ennui and impatiently pine for break-time is anyone's guess, especially when they are about as effective as a regular flashlight guard.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Penelope killed hundreds of men, enslaved a whole town, and plans on using Operation Overlord to terrorize the British Isles during the rise of UsefulNotes/RobertTheBruce, rewriting 700 years of history in both England and Scotland, all out of greed.
* ItsPersonal: Once Sly and Murray get the news of Penelope's betrayal, they disown her as a friend, and plan on killing her for breaking Bentley's heart.
* KickTheDog: After beating Galleth, the Black Knight forces him into the role of clown in their circus, with all of the ads for the circus showing Galleth being tossed around and tormented and marketing it as "family-friendly entertainment." By the time Sly finds him, he is literally throwing himself out the window half-cocked with the intent at getting Revenge.
* LargeHam: Being the KnightInShiningArmor type, Sir Galleth Cooper says everything as though he was reciting the Feast of Crispian speech.
* LastNameBasis: Penelope only refers to Sly by his surname out of distain.
* LateToTheTragedy: It is never stated exactly how long the Black Knight has had their grip on the town, but Galleth begrudgingly claims that he had been in that circus since being beaten for a fortnight (two weeks), but by the time the Cooper Gang travel there, the robot guards mention being at the circus the previous year, implying their occupation has been going on a lot longer.
* LeeroyJenkins: Not being the subtlest Cooper, Galleth tends to rush into his battles without thinking, the very thing that had his order disbanded and himself captured in the first place. The Cooper Gang keeping him from running off becomes something of a RunningGag for the episode. His recklessness costs Galleth his cane in the end, when he charges at Penelope with killing intent.
* LikeADuckTakesToWater: Turns out Sly is a natural with the bow and arrow.
--> Sly: I should try this blindfolded.
* RedemptionRejection: Rather than attack her, Bentley attempts to reason with Penelope over her actions, stating this isn't what he wants, that she's an idiot for joining Le Paradox for Greed the money, and tries to convince her to rejoin the people who care for her before Le Paradox "cuts her strings". Penelope ignores everything and attacks him in anger, causing Bentley to give up on her.
* RemovingTheRival: Penelope has this planned for Sly and Murray if it means having Bentley to herself.
* SavageWolves: Robotic wolves serve the Black Knight/Penelope as her army.
* SignatureMove: Galleth's Catapult Crash is basically an advanced form of the hook-spring move, allowing him to spear through obstacles like a rocket.
* TheSociopath: "Shell-Shocked Heart" shows Penelope coming out of the Black Knight armor, and smugly gloat to herself over how she intends to use Bentley to profit from weapon designs before calling him a dumbass. Later on, when confronted, Penelope admits she's just molding Bentley, and responds to his heartfelt pleas with apathy.
* StormingTheCastle: The climax has the gang (minus Bentley, initially) storm Penelope's castle stronghold in the hopes of killing her and stopping Operation Overlord.
* TakeThat: When Sly sees the tech in the Shoemaker's store, Bentley remarks that "even women's shoe-stores aren't this diabolical."
* TreacheryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: When Sly finds out that Penelope turned her back on the gang out of jealousy, he swears payback, mainly for breaking Bentley's heart. Galleth even points out that the most appropriate response would be to raid the castle and kill her.
* UnknownRival: Penelope towards Sly, in regards to Bentley.
* TheUnfettered: For Penelope, it's obtaining unlimited power and fortune, controlling Bentley for his potential, and murdering Sly and Murray out of sheer hatred. Nothing will stop her from her goals, and her immoral dedication is on par with Jafar and Palpatine.
* WhamEpisode: Penelope is EvilAllAlong, and betrayed the Cooper Gang to Le Paradox so she could have Bentley to herself. She also wants him to design weapons to sell on the black market, and make billions of dollars, and shows no care to his actual feelings.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: InUniverse. Sly remarks that he would have been an amazing trapeze artist.
* WouldHitAGirl: Galleth has no problems with attacking Penelope. Granted, he sees her as a WickedWitch who needs to be stopped and executed as she's caused too much damange.
* Yandere: Penelope is a Stage 5 example. She does not approve of Sly and Murray being friends with Bentley, and thinks the only way to permanently cut them out of his life is to murder them both. Downplayed a bit, as Penelope's insane obsession with Bentley is actually due to his skills, and she wants them for herself.
