Context Recap / PhineasAndFerbBackyardHodgePodge

Go To

While sorting through parts from their old inventions, Phineas and Ferb decide to make an entirely new invention out of these parts. Meanwhile, Linda is sleep-deprived from baking several pies for a charity event, and Lawrence is preparing a speech about a platypus-worshipping tribe called the Ornithorican Tribe. At the same time, after receiving multiple royalty checks for a device that corrects eyesight, Dr. Doofenshmirtz decides to build a device called the Eye Fog-Inator, which will fog people's eyes, in order to counteract the thought of his inventions doing good (and to force more people to use his eye correction device).
!! Tropes:

* AnimateInanimateObject: During Linda's hallucinations, a bread bag dances and three pies sing.
* AsHimself: Internet sensation Music/ParryGripp, who also helped co-write the titular song.
* BirthdayEpisode: For Major Monogram.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: After Perry disappears from Linda, presumably to get away from all the burnt pies she's been feeding him, Linda wonders where Perry is.
-->'''Internet Sensation Parry Gripp''': [[RunningGag Right here!]]\
'''Linda''': [[OneSteveLimit Platypus.]]\
'''Internet Sensation Parry Gripp''': Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to intrude.
* CreatorCameo: Two guys that look and sound suspiciously like Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh attend Lawrence's speech and comment on his arm being in a sling.
* CutLexLuthorACheck: Heinz Doofenshmirtz receive royalties for inventing a device that corrects people's eyesight, but he still wants to use the device for evil.
* GivenNameReveal: The "Ballpit Kid" (the boy wearing green who was saved from the ballpit in "[[Recap/PhineasAndFerbNoMoreBunnyBusiness No More Bunny Business]]") is given an actual name thanks to a throwaway line by his father: "Ignore the upside-down man, Balthazar."
* {{Hallucinations}}: Linda has these due to SleepDeprivation.
* HappyBirthdayToYou: O.W.C.A. can't afford the song for Monogram's birthday, so the agents "sing" a cacophony of animal noises.
* HopeSpot: Candace is close to an epic bust after hearing Linda saw the Big Idea, but she gets hit by the Eye Fog-inator's stray blast while running through the gate and cannot see it clearly, prompting Linda to go inside to rest.
* ImpairmentShot: Anyone who is zapped by the Eye Fog-inator has this.
* NoodleIncident: Unusual for a show heavily reliant on [[ContinuityNod Continuity Nods]], many of the projects mentioned by the gang come off as these. For example, Baljeet uses some slide rulers from a "World of Calculation" exhibit, Isabella uses some coat hangers from the "Leaning Tower of Closet Space", and Buford uses catering trays from the giant picnic and a parachute from the drag race. (Though it should be noted that the gang would later have a giant picnic in "[[Recap/PhineasAndFerbItsNoPicnic It's No Picnic]]".
* OneSteveLimit: Internet sensation Music/ParryGripp makes several appearances whenever someone mentions "Perry".
-->'''Ferb''': Well, he's no platypus, but he's still a lovely fellow.
* PatterSong: "Backyard Hodge Podge" qualifies as one of these.
* RoyaltiesHeir: Heinz Doofenshmirtz invented a device that corrects people's eyesight and the royalty checks he receives for this make him feel less uncomfortable about one of his inventions being used to do good.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: Candace replies, "I...don't...see...''anything!''" as she is hit by Doofenshmirtz's Eye Fog-inator and cannot see the Big Idea because her vision is blurred.
* RiddleForTheAges: What evil scheme was Doof’s vision correction device made for?
* SeinfeldianConversation: The episode begins with Phineas and Ferb trying to settle an argument between Buford and Baljeet about, of all things, vegetarian zombies.
-->'''Buford''': Guys, guys, could you settle an argument? Preferably in my favor? If a vegetarian became a zombie, would they still eat people. Mr. Smarty Underpants over here thinks they'd just keep eatin' vegetables.
-->'''Baljeet''': But they are, after all, vegetarians.
-->'''Phineas''': Hmmm, I guess they would eat things like heads of lettuce... ears of corn...
-->'''Baljeet''': Eye of potato.
-->'''Buford''': Leg of carrot! ({{beat}}) What? Your carrots don't have legs? Where do ''your'' parents shop?
* ShoutOut: When Linda begins hallucinating, the bread bag suddenly grows arms and legs and holds a top hat and cane. It might as well have started singing, "[[WesternAnimation/OneFroggyEvening Hello, ma baby, hello, ma honey, hello, ma ragtime gal...]]"
* StealthPun: The pies that come to life to Linda sing "Three-point-one-four-one-five-nine-two..." Making them pies singing about the first seven digits of pi!
* SwappedRoles: Linda is the one who sees the Big Idea, but thinks she's hallucinating, whereas Candace ''doesn't'' see it, because she cannot see it clearly due to the effects of Doof's Eye Fog-inator.
