* SixIsNine: When Lola and Lynn Sr. are playing pageant, Lola seems to give him a score of 9, but the card was upside down and his real score is 6, [[WellDoneDadGuy which he's okay with]].
* ApopheniaPlot: Lynn Sr. thinks his kids (except Luan) suspect him of playing favorites since they always look in his direction, or appear sad or angry whenever he's playing with one of them. Actually, Luna just broke her guitar pick, Lynn was disappointed because her favorite quarterback was injured, Lincoln was just looking at Lynn Sr. to acknowledge him, Lucy was just being herself, and Lola was just angry with the cashier at the supermarket. There was no reason given for the others' unhappiness, but they assured Lynn Sr. that they didn't feel left out or think he was playing favorites.
* BreakingTheCycleOfBadParenting: It's revealed that when Lynn Sr. was a kid, his dad, Leonard, apparently played favorites and gave him the short end of the stick. When he fears he is doing the same thing with his own kids with Luan, he makes a genuine effort to spend equal time with all his children.
* CallBack:
** When Lynn Sr. decides to spend time with Lincoln, [[Recap/TheLoudHouseS2E22LegendsMallOfDuty the two watch]] ''Series/LegendsOfTheHiddenTemple'' [[Recap/TheLoudHouseS2E22LegendsMallOfDuty together]], complete with wearing the Orange Iguana costumes they wore when they competed on the show in that episode.
** When Lynn Sr. decides to spend time with Lily, [[Recap/TheLoudHouseS2E25TheCryingDameAntiSocial he dresses up as Fenton the Feel-Better Fox and dances for her]]. Which is ironic, since he was shown to be afraid of the toy fox in that episode.
* HereWeGoAgain: At the end of the episode, Charles, Walt, and Geo think that Lynn Sr. is playing favorites with Cliff.
* HoldUpYourScore: Lola does this when she and Lynn Sr. are playing pageant.
* HurricaneOfPuns: Lynn Sr. and Luan make a lot of puns at the grocery store. This causes Lola to feel left out.
* NoodleIncident:
** When Lynn Sr. tells Rita that he's going to spend more time with Lola, she tells him to not buy her another pony, since it didn't work out the last time he did that. If a deleted scene is any indication, said pony died.
** What did Lola do at the store that made the check-out lady think she didn't deserve a free balloon?
* OcularGushers: Lily cries gobs of tears when she accidentally bites her finger while eating carrot sticks.
* ParentalFavoritism: The main theme of the episode is that Lynn Sr. thinks that he might be playing favorites, so he tries to give the kids equal attention. The episode also reveals that his own dad played favorites.
* ShaggyDogStory: Lynn Sr.'s worries about the kids accusing him of favorites end up being unfounded for one reason or another. For specific examples:
** In the end, it is revealed that the reason why Lola was upset when she, Lynn Sr., and Luan went to the grocery store wasn't necessarily because of the time the latter two spent together, but because the lady at the check-out line wouldn't give her a free balloon, saying she didn't deserve it.
** Lynn Jr. wasn't jealous of Lynn Sr. spending time with Lola instead of working out with her. She was just upset that her favorite quarterback was injured and would be out for the rest of the season.
* ShoutOut: Mr. Loud ends up sitting on Charles' doghouse, similar to [[Franchise/{{Peanuts}} Snoopy]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Luan's is revealed to be beef stroganoff.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: When Lynn Sr. gets into a dress and plays with Lola.

* ArtisticLicenseSports: Paula, who has a broken leg and walks around with a crutch, participates in the game. In real life, this is both highly frowned upon and illegal, since she wouldn't be allowed or able to play due to her injury.
* DarkHorseVictory: When Lynn and Margo try to make up with each other, they each want each other to score the winning goal, but neither one of them wants to do it out of respect for each other. In the end, it's Paula who scores the winning goal.
* DownToTheLastPlay: Every single soccer game shown is literally won in the last minute, just for the sake of having the scorer (Margo, Lynn and then Paula) celebrated and then carried away by their teammates right after.
* {{Gasshole}}: Lynn burps after eating a Double Belcher Burger, saying it's all about "turning fire to fuel".
* GreenEyedMonster: The episode has Lynn being jealous of Margo not for making the winning goal (in fact, Lynn was the one who passed the ball to Margo to make the shot when she couldn't do it herself and she was perfectly fine cheering Margo on with everyone else during the initial victory), but for the resulting fame everyone heaps on Margo in increasing amounts (from the sensible such as classmates cheering her on to being able to get a free pass on a class test and her library fine being taken down for free) is what drives Lynn mad with jealousy.
* MundaneSolution: In order to get back into the spotlight, Lynn decides to just score her own one-in-a-million winning goal at another game. It takes a few mis-tries, but it works...[[GoneHorriblyRight and costs her Margo's friendship, especially since she made said goal by getting in the way of Margo's already clear shot just to get the glory.]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Margo gives one to Lynn concerning the latter’s jealousy and not wanting to be in her shadow, even though the former could handle being in HER shadow.
-->'''Margo:''' "So you didn't spend the whole last game trying to make a big play so you could get the spotlight back?"\
'''Lynn:''' ''(Shocked and a little offended)'' "OK, maybe I did, so what? I deserve that spotlight, I've worked really hard for it!"\
