* Several of the game's cutscenes are sure to keep you up at night.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riV0496pS8E Mother Brain has her eye on you...]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0m0QVnANRs Even with just a little eye movement]], you ''know'' what Ridley is thinking.
** ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_A6qOoDZDI Target acquired. Termination imminent.]]''
* The gate to Tourian was redone to be similar to the statue room in ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid''. Instead of individual statues of Kraid and Ridley that need to be shot to create a bridge over an acid pool, the gate is made to resemble their faces, each of which has their eyes open up and glow red after their respective likenesses are defeated, and once you come back to them, you have to go through their mouths to get to Tourian. And the midsection of the gate seems to be made with skulls. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yqa08l4DC8 The music]] that plays at the gate is just as ominous as the statue room theme from ''Super''.
* [[ThatOneLevel Tourian]], lair of the Metroids and Mother Brain, deserves its own section.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf_7xXqbrac&list=PL9E98BE4897AB0005 This cutscene]] plays as you ride the elevator to Tourian, where all the Metroids are lurking for you...
** Upon first exiting Tourian's save room, you find the lifeless corpse of a Space Pirate.
** Since other ''Metroid'' media states that Mother Brain could control the Metroids with her mental powers, it says something about the [[BadBoss Space Pirate Leader]] if her stronghold is filled with the corpses of Space Pirates that were devoured by the Metroids.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1soEUXNNCY Tourian's music doesn't help either]].
** The final room with Metroids. You get locked in a narrow room, as usual, but no Metroids emerge. You run back and forth, trying to find something, until you decide to drop a bomb. Then... the floor collapses. Twice. And you find yourself in a deep pit full of hungry Metroids...
** The boss fight with Mother Brain. She is giving you a DeathGlare the entire time, and shooting her results in her retaliating with an {{Eye Beam|s}} of Doom. Did we mention you're fighting on a tiny block above a pit of lava with Rinkas coming at you every few seconds to knock you off said block?
* The Kiru Giru being suffocated by Tangle Vines in the boss fight just before Ridley's lair. One can hear it trying to get free, but changing color as the vines leech more of its life out...
* The buildup to fighting Ridley. You [[SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity use the save room right before his arena]], kill the door guardian, and... nothing. [[NothingIsScarier He's not there]]. Oh well, at least the door to the item he's guarding is unlocked, so you go in and grab it, and return to Ridley's room. [[JumpScare That's when the doors suddenly lock]]. You panic, even though you ''[[ParanoiaFuel know]]'' [[ParanoiaFuel what's going to happen, and yet he still doesn't show up]]... that is, [[https://youtu.be/k-smcuIzuxw?t=60 until you turn around]].
** To compound the JumpScare factor, Ridley lets out the same roar he had from ''Fusion''. You know, the sound clip that was so extremely loud ''it caused the GBA to start lagging just playing it.''
