Discharge is an incredibly influential HardcorePunk band formed in 1977 in the miserably named town of Stoke-on-Trent. They promoted Anarchism as a political ideology, and became famous for the creation of “D-Beat”, a lightning-fast mixture of hardcore punk and speed metal that would go on to influence Crust Punk, ThrashMetal and Grindcore.

* AnarchyIsChaos: Completely averted-The band is vocal in their advocacy of [[ActualPacifist pacifism]], and even musically they were much tighter than average for HardcorePunk.
* DrunkWithPower: The subject of "Drunk With Power", [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin naturally]].
* LighterAndSofter: ''Grave New World'' was full HairMetal. The change in sound didn't stick.
* LimitedLyricsSong: Almost all of their songs feature only a single stanza of lyrics, sometimes sung twice.
* MinisculeRocking: A good portion of their songs are under two minutes long.
* NewSoundAlbum: ''Grave New World'' took a left turn into HairMetal, much to the displeasure of their fanbase. ''Massacre Divine'' and ''Shooting Up the World'' went for a TraditionalHeavyMetal sound, bordering on ThrashMetal in some places. Their 2002 SelfTitledAlbum finally returned them to their classic sound.
* ProtestSong: Almost every song they’ve ever made.
* UrExample: Of both D-beat and its sister genre crust punk, a fusion of hardcore punk with the more aggressive side of the NewWaveOfBritishHeavyMetal.
* WarIsHell: A significant portion of their songs are about war and its consequences.
