Being forced to play the part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (who incidentally, was killed saving Yoshiharu) to this timeline's Oda Nobunaga (who also turns out to be a girl) during the [[JidaiGeki Sengoku Period]] in UsefulNotes/{{Japan}}, he changes a lot of things around largely by pleading to her merciful side, such as forgiving her brother for his small rebellion rather than kill him as the real Nobunaga did. When Yoshiharu is presumed killed later in the series, she goes on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge, which puts fears to her rivals, but concerns her allies that she may be crossing a MoralEventHorizon.
10	* In ''Manga/BambooBlade,'' Miyako "Miya-Miya" Miyazaki has her [[OfficialCouple boyfriend]] Danjuro Eiga as her morality chain. It's fairly evident throughout the series that she only cares to keep her [[{{Yandere}} repressed aggression]] in check whenever he's around.

Being Guts's lover [[GoMadFromTheRevelation driven insane]] by the actions of Griffith and the Godhand during the Eclipse, she is the only reason why he refuses to completely give into his SuperPoweredEvilSide. Said evil side, a {{Hellhound}} like beast, is fully aware of this and constantly importunes Guts to kill her so it can take over his mind and turn him into a being of pure hatred. The Beast is literally chained thanks to Guts' devotion to Casca, though it promises Guts that it will be free one day.

Suffice it to say that in the event of Rock's death, Revy would make the events of the ''Nazi'' arc look like cheerful shoujo by comparison.

Before she fell in love with him, she was perfectly willing to kill her comrades and "friends" (including him) for betraying or pissing her off enough. Now she acts more like a good guy and tries to tone down her more sadistic and murderous tendencies even when he's not around, if only because she doesn't want him to hate her after he forgave her for her past actions.

[[spoiler: Before leaving to plunder all the abilities in the world, Nao promised that she would become his girlfriend upon his return and gave him some English flashcards. As he gathers abilities, the sheer amount of them start to tear away at his memories and his sanity. Eventually, he declares himself god and decides to take over the world... until he sees the cards. Even though he doesn't remember her, the sight of them is enough to make him continue his mission.]]
23	* ''Anime/CodeGeass'': Euphemia is this for Suzaku. [[spoiler:After she dies, he sells out his best friend Lelouch in exchange for a promotion, eschewing his ThouShaltNotKill philosophy for cold pragmatism, then eventually agreeing to use a FantasticNuke in a battle that destroys half of Tokyo.]] Ostensibly though, it could be seen as Euphemia finally GIVING him a sense of a Moral direction considering how he sold out his home as he beleived it was wrong for an oppressed people who want their own freedom. Even his original goal (Become the Knight of One to rule over japan as his personal territory)reflects this as he didn't ever seem to care what the people wanted; only what would stop them complaining.
24	** Lelouch on his own has several between Nunnally, Kallen, Shirley and Euphemia; the issue is he's more willing to push morality to the side if he's certain the amoral things he does will result in a net good and he'll accept the consequences, sin and condemnation if he's wrong. It's only when those chains start breaking does his own Sanity slippage start, he pushes those who connected to them away [[spoiler:if they're even still alive to break them]] and commit to doing the wrong thing regardless of what it will do to himself.

Light's role as the tale's VillainProtagonist forces L to play the role of the hero to counteract it, despite their similarities; at his core, L would gladly go to vicious extremes to satisfy his "justice" -- and occasionally he does fall into darker territory, like in his torture of [[MadLove Misa]] -- but Light holds him back, both by literally refusing to allow L to take certain measures and by inflaming L's desire to be ''better'' than his opponent, both intellectually and [[RightMakesMight morally]]. Of course, it's a strange example in that L actually ''hates'' Light, Light himself is TheSociopath, and they're literally ''[[ChainedHeat chained together]]''.

When he arrives to find the psychopaths parading her head and dismembered body around on pikes, he is enraged to the point that he completely incinerates the crowd while bellowing inconsolably. When Akira finally returns to his senses, he cradles Miki’s head in his arms and laments the loss of all hope, turning his back on humanity entirely and resolving to fight only for the other Devilmen against Satan and his army of demons.

Kyon also is the only one who can hammer some sense of right and wrong into her. It is a very credible possibility that, should Kyon ever die, the universe would be destroyed. Therefore, when she [[HeelFaceTurn decides to fight him to protect her friends]], and he sees [[PapaWolf Nube]] give HIS life to protect Minki, Baki immediately [[HeelFaceTurn allies himself with Nube]] on the condition that he should never hurt Minki.

As soon as she was gone things became very dark...
58	* ''Manga/MagicCircleChronocanon'': Touma, the male lead, is this to Karino, the female lead. The two of them are [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friends]], but a traumatic experience in which she was kidnapped and brainwashed left Karino deeply emotionally stunted. Although Touma eventually managed to save her, the emotional damage was great enough that Touma needed to personally take care of Karino and try his best to bring her on the path to recovery. The problem, however, is that Karino is an extremely powerful mage, but lacks any real self-restraint due to being so emotionally stunted, and so it falls to Touma to make sure she doesn't hurt [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend anyone in a misguided effort to protect him]].
