{{Milestone Celebration}}s in VideoGames.
----
* ''VideoGame/BackToTheFutureTheGame'' was released the year of the 25th anniversary of the release of ''Film/BackToTheFuture1''.
* Creator/{{Capcom}} loves 'em:
** Capcom celebrated ''Franchise/MegaMan''[='s=] 15th anniversary by releasing the ''Anniversary Collection'', a CompilationRerelease of all of the console ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' games (''1-8'', plus the arcade games ''Power Battle'' and ''Power Fighters'').
** ''VideoGame/MegaMan8'' was a 10th anniversary special, with an art booklet of previous games, and an animated intro that was a callback to the whole series at that point.
** Capcom celebrated Mega Man's 25th anniversary with ''VideoGame/RockmanXover''. However, after the negative backlash the game received, they supported the fan-made (and much better received) ''VideoGame/StreetFighterXMegaMan'' as an anniversary game for both franchises.
** To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ''Mega Man'' franchise, Capcom announced the release of ''VideoGame/MegaMan11'', the first game in [[SequelGap eight years]] since the release of ''VideoGame/MegaMan10''.
** Capcom celebrated ''Franchise/StreetFighter''[='s=] 15th anniversary by releasing the ''Street Fighter Anniversary Collection'', which had ''[[VideoGame/StreetFighterII Hyper Street Fighter II]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/StreetFighterIII Street Fighter III 3rd Strike]]''. Oddly enough, the original ''[[VideoGame/StreetFighterI Street Fighter]]'' wasn't present.
** ''Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection'' contains the original ''Street Fighter'', ''Street Fighter II'' and its updates (up to Super Turbo), ''VideoGame/StreetFighterAlpha'' 1-3, and ''Street Fighter III'' and both of its updates which include Giant Impact and 3rd Strike.
** For the twentieth anniversary of the release of ''VideoGame/BionicCommando1988'', a 2.5-D remake of the original was released in 2008, with a fully 3-D sequel following in early 2009.
** Capcom's 40th anniversary was celebrated with [[https://captown.capcom.com/ Capcom Town]], a Capcom-themed virtual city featuring a museum of Capcom's many franchises, and also includes playable versions of ''VideoGame/MegaMan1'', ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'', ''VideoGame/MegaManX1'', ''VideoGame/StreetFighterII'' and ''VideoGame/FinalFight'', in both English and Japanese.
* ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'':
** ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaPortraitOfRuin'' was released in 2006, 20 years after the release of 1986's ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaI Akumajo Dracula]]'' for the Famicom Disk System in Japan. The game includes plenty of references to series history and pre-order bonuses included an artbook, timeline, and soundtrack [=CD=], all of which containing art/information/music spanning the entire series.
** ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaTheAdventureReBirth'' was released for [=WiiWare=] in Japan exactly twenty years after [[VideoGame/CastlevaniaTheAdventure the original Game Boy game's]] release.
* ''VideoGame/Contra4'' was released at the 20th anniversary game for the series, emphasized with its heaps of series FanService ([[MyFriendsAndZoidberg although the other type is unlockable]]).
* ''[[VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryTheTrilogy Donkey Kong Country - The Trilogy]]'' is a fan game made to celebrate Donkey Kong's 40th anniversary.
* ''VideoGame/DoubleDragon'': Both ''VideoGame/DoubleDragonNeon'' and ''VideoGame/AbobosBigAdventure'' were released in 2012, coinciding with the franchise's 25th. Both are [[AffectionateParody wacky parodies]] of the [[TropeCodifier seminal]] beat'em up as well as [[TheEighties 80s]] culture in general; ''Neon'' takes on 80's music and fashion, while ''Abobo'' spoofs the [[Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem NES]] library in particular (it's also a lot [[BloodyHilarious gorier]]...).
* ''VideoGame/Drakengard3'' was meant as this for the ''VideoGame/{{Drakengard}}'' series, marking its 10th anniversary.
* According to WordOfGod, the release of ''VideoGame/EarthBoundBeginnings'' on Platform/VirtualConsole is meant to celebrate ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}''[='=]s 20th anniversary.
* [[Creator/ElectronicArts EA Sports]] listed ''Madden NFL 2005'' at the 15th anniversary of the series, and released a collector's edition with earlier versions of the game updated with modern rosters. Oddly enough, ''Madden 2009'' was billed as the 20th anniversary, and the would-be ''Madden 2014'' was billed as ''Madden 25''. [[WritersCannotDoMath Math never was EA's strong suit]]. [[note]]The discrepancy comes from the fact that the series usually releases late in the calendar year before the one listed, so ''Madden 2000'' was actually released in 1999. The first game, retroactively called ''Madden 1988'', was the only exception, being released in the year 1988.[[/note]]
* ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls'':
** Creator/{{Bethesda}} released ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsArena Arena]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIDaggerfall Daggerfall]]'' as FreewareGames in 2004 and 2009, respectively, marking the 10th and 15th anniversaries of ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls'' series.
** For the series' 25th anniversary, ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIIMorrowind Morrowind]]'' was offered for free for March 25, 2019 only.
** To mark 10 years since the release of ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'', Bethesda released the ''Anniversary Edition'' on Nov. 11 2021, which made several bits of Creation Club DownloadableContent free permanently, and bundled the rest in a discounted package.
* For the 25th anniversary of the ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}'' franchise, an alien themed update was released for ''VideoGame/Fallout76''. The game was also free to play for one week, with Amazon Prime members being able to obtain a free copy of the game and Xbox Game Pass members gaining one month of Fallout 1st, ''Fallout 76''[='=]s subscription service. Also released was the Post-Apocalyptic Loyalty Simulator (P.A.L.S.), a ''Fallout'' themed personality quiz which sorts you in one of the franchise's numerous factions. ''VideoGame/FalloutShelter'' also received an update after several years, which adds new recruitable Duellers to Lunchboxes, additional weapons to equip to Dwellers, a new theme for Diners and Living Quarters, and a new questline which is also alien themed. Amazon also shared its [[https://twitter.com/PrimeVideo/status/1584953052401848321 first official look]] at the Fallout TV series.
* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'':
** Creator/SquareEnix had a group of games released under the 20th Anniversary banner of the series, including a PSP UpdatedRerelease of the original and the MassiveMultiplayerCrossover ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy''.
** At the same time, the latest part of the Compilation, ''VideoGame/CrisisCore: VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'', was promoted as part of the 10th anniversary of ''Final Fantasy VII''.
** ''VideoGame/TheatrhythmFinalFantasy'' was released to coincide with the franchise's 25th anniversary.
* ''VideoGame/FruitNinja'':
** To celebrate the fifth anniversary of ''VideoGame/FruitNinja'', the game has received a huge update that added a "Festival" mode, where players could win new Golden Ember blade. Similar special in-game events were also added to many of the games supported by Creator/HalfbrickStudios at the time.
** ''Fruit Ninja 2'' had its worldwide release on the original game's 10th anniversary. Additionally, ''Fruit Ninja'' itself was overhauled and ported over to UsefulNotes/{{Unity}} engine with new graphics.
* ''VideoGame/GhostbustersTheVideoGame'' was released in 2009, marking the 25th anniversary of ''Film/Ghostbusters1984''. It received a remaster in 2019, marking both its 10th anniversary and the 35th anniversary of the franchise.
* ''VideoGame/GranTurismo 7'' was released in 2022 to honor the 25th anniversary of the series.
* ''VideoGame/HalfLife1'' came out in November 1998. In November 2008, Valve offered the game to anyone who still didn't own it on Platform/{{Steam}} for 98 cents.
* ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'':
** The [[VideoGame/HaloCombatEvolved first game]] got a graphically revamped UpdatedRerelease with bonus story content and a ''VideoGame/HaloReach'' NostalgiaLevel map pack (which could also be obtained as a seperate {{DLC}}) for its tenth anniversary. The rerelease was one of the first games developed by 343 Industries, the ''Halo'' studio established after Creator/{{Bungie}} became an indie studio.
** They did it again for the ten year anniversary of the [[VideoGame/Halo2 second game]], not just by graphically revamping ''Halo 2'' and adding further story content, but by compiling together the most recent versions of the first four numbered entries (including the before-mentioned H1 and H2 rereleases) into ''Halo: The Master Chief Collection'', which includes support for all four multiplayers (including every map ever released), the digital feature ''Halo: Nightfall'', and access to the ''VideoGame/Halo5Guardians'' multiplayer beta.
** ''VideoGame/HaloInfinite'' was released close to the 20th anniversary of ''Combat Evolved'', and thus the 20th anniversary of the original Platform/{{Xbox}}. Also for this milestone, ''[[CompilationReRelease The Master Chief Collection]]'' received several new cosmetics for your Spartan, most of which are themed after the original Xbox, in addition to two new armor sets: SPI (a highly-requested armor set which first appeared in ''Literature/HaloGhostsOfOnyx'' and became a staple of the ''Halo'' ExpandedUniverse despite never being seen in the games until now) and Orion (based on the pre-release MJOLNIR design from the 1999 Macworld demo).
* ''VideoGame/HarvestMoon'' had two SpinOff games made for the series' 10th anniversary: ''Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon'' and ''VideoGame/InnocentLifeAFuturisticHarvestMoon''. The former proved popular enough to [[VideoGame/RuneFactory become its own series]]. Also for their 10th anniversary Marvelous released two ''Harvest Moon'' games, ''[[VideoGame/HarvestMoonDS DS]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/HarvestMoonMagicalMelody Magical Melody]]''. Both games were throwback games with the former taking place in [[VideoGame/HarvestMoonAWonderfulLife Forget-Me-Not Valley]] 100 years in the future, and the latter featured characters from previous games (mostly from the [[VideoGame/HarvestMoon1 first game of the series]]). Both games are often cited as being the end of the "classic" ''Harvest Moon'' period due to future games being vastly different from the older ''Harvest Moon'' style. The odd part is, though, the games were released in 2005 when the 10th anniversary was in 2006.
* In 1995, Creator/HudsonSoft celebrated the tenth anniversary of their ''All-Japan Caravan Festival'' with ''Caravan Shooting Collection'', a CompilationRerelease of the games featured in the first three years of the festival (''VideoGame/StarForce'', ''VideoGame/StarSoldier'', and ''[[VideoGame/StarshipHector Hector '87]]'') for the [[Platform/SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem Super Famicom]]. All three games are presented in their original [[Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem Family Computer]] aesthetics.
* In ''VideoGame/IansEyes'', Blue Norholm Primary School was celebrating its centinary. However, during the celebration, most of the staff and students were zombified by a slideshow.
* ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'' marks the 10th anniversary of the ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' series, noted in-game with a story recap feature to prevent ContinuityLockout. Coincidentally, it also has a tip of the hat to the 30th anniversary of ''Film/{{Tron}}'' on the same year with the inclusion of a ''Film/TronLegacy'' world. For its 15th anniversary celebration, both ''1.5'' and ''2.5 [=ReMIX=]'' are to be combined and ported to the [=PlayStation=] 4.
* ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters XII'' was rushed to market to mark the series' 15th anniversary. As ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006''[='s=] equal circumstances had already demonstrated, results were disappointing.
* ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'':
** While previous anniversaries were celebrated in a low key fashion, Nintendo and HAL decided to go all out for the franchise's 20th anniversary, which they would do so by making a CompilationRerelease for the Wii titled ''Kirby's Dream Collection'', which compiled all three ''[[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand Dream]] [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2 Land]]'' [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3 entries]], ''VideoGame/KirbysAdventure'', ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' and ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'' in one package. The compilation also contains additional goodies and content as well, such as an art book and soundtrack, an in-game museum that goes through both Kirby's history and real world events that coincided with the games, a couple of episodes from Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa, and new challenge stages based off of the ones from ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand''.
** Nintendo and HAL decided to go even bigger with ''Kirby'''s 25th anniversary, commemorating the occasion with plenty of new anniversary merchandise, a [[https://www.kirby.jp/ new website in Japan]], themed artwork posted on the franchise's Twitter account, themed pop up cafes titled "Kirby Cafe", and an orchestrated concert. Nintendo and HAL would also release ''VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies'' later the same year, which appropriately enough, serves as a massive love letter to the franchise as a whole, a fact that is made all the clearer by the addition of Dream friends, which saw the return of many ''Kirby'' characters, [[TheBusCameBack some of which hadn't been seen in decades]]. [[spoiler:Kirby's classic ''Dream Land'' design even makes a reappearance as an unlockable alt skin]].
** ''Kirby'''s 30th anniversary saw the release of ''VideoGame/KirbyAndTheForgottenLand'', the franchise's first mainline 3D platformer, and ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamBuffet''.
* For their 10th anniversary in 2019, ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' developers Riot Games had quite possibly one of the biggest celebrations of any gaming company ever. For 10 years they'd focused almost entirely on their groundbreaking MOBA and its esports scene (aside from its autochess spin-off, ''VideoGame/TeamfightTactics''), despite suggestions that they diversify into other projects, but on this occasion they revealed that the reason they'd never worked on anything else was because they'd been saving it all up to show at once. Things revealed during the 10th anniversary celebration included:
** The next champion for ''[=LoL=]'', Senna the Redeemer, a character who'd been known to be dead for 6 years as part of classic champion Lucian's backstory, now brought back to life, marking a significant shift in ''[=LoL's=]'' overarching narrative.
** A streamlined mobile port of ''[=LoL=]'' called ''Wild Rift'' and a mobile port of ''VideoGame/TeamfightTactics''.
** A new digital CCG based on the ''[=LoL=]'' universe, ''VideoGame/LegendsOfRuneterra'', which would enter closed beta before the end of the year.
** Several other in-development ''[=LoL=]''-based games, including "Project L", a 1-on-1 fighting game, "Project F", a top-down adventure game of some sort, and even ''[=LoL=] Esports Manager'', which is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin.
** Their new publishing division called "Riot Forge", dedicated to supporting third-party and indie development of more games based on ''[=LoL=]'' (the first two of which, ''[=CONV/RGENCE=]'' and ''VideoGame/RuinedKing'', would be revealed later that year at The Game Awards 2019).
** Their first project completely unrelated to ''League of Legends'', a team-based tactical HeroShooter initially given the name "Project A", which was later retitled ''VideoGame/{{Valorant}}.''
** An animated series set in the ''[=LoL=]'' universe called ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'', which would be set in the dual cities of Piltover and Zaun and cover the previously-unexplained backstories of popular champions Vi and Jinx.
** Finally, every player in the game was given the [[https://cdn1.dotesports.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/17080330/Anniversary-1.jpg Annie-versary]] skin for classic champion Annie the Dark Child and a [[https://lolskinshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/10th-anniversary-ward-skin.png 10th Anniversary Ward Skin]].
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** The series celebrated its 25th year with four games in 2011: ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword Skyward Sword]]'', remakes of ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaFourSwords Four Swords]]'', and a rerelease of ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaLinksAwakening Link's Awakening]]'' that helped launch the Platform/Nintendo3DS's Virtual Console service. Plus a worldwide orchestral concert tour, [[PreOrderBonus promotional items]] for ''Skyward Sword'' and ''Ocarina'', and a tribute level (5-2) in ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DLand''. The anniversary concluded with the art book ''Literature/HyruleHistoria'', which revealed the complete timeline of the franchise for the first time ever. ''Skyward Sword'' itself would be revisited for the 35th anniversary by receiving an HD port to the Platform/NintendoSwitch in 2021, complete with new controls that permit the use of the analog stick to replicate the motion controls of the Wii game (the motion controls are also possible by using the Joycons in the same fashion).
** The series' 30th Anniversary five years later was more subdued, but nevertheless active. Nintendo first released an UpdatedRerelease of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess'' in March of 2016. They also unveiled the long-awaited ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'' at E3 2016 though that didn't end up releasing until the following year.
** Unlike the last two anniversaries, the 35th Anniversary of the series in 2021 was not celebrated with much fanfare from Nintendo, with them outright admitting to have no major plans for the anniversary during E3 2021 (disappointing many in the process). That said, they still celebrated it in a more low key fashion. In addition to an UpdatedRerelease of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'' in July, a Platform/GameAndWatch-style handheld was created in a similar vein to the one made for Mario's anniversary with the original ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaI'', ''VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink'', ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaLinksAwakening'', and a variant of the classic [=G&W=] game "Vermin".
* ''VideoGame/LiesOfP'' made its' debut during the 140th anniversary of the book it is inspired from, ''Literature/TheAdventuresOfPinocchio'' in 2023.
* The ''VideoGame/LikeADragon''/''Yakuza'' series, otherwise known as ''Ryu Ga Gotoku'' in its native Japan, celebrated the series' tenth anniversary with two games. One was ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'', a prequel that dove into the backstory of the game's characters and settings, in addition to making BreakoutCharacter Goro Majima [[PromotedToPlayable playable for the first time in a main-series game]].[[note]]Majima was previously playable in the non-canon spinoff ''VideoGame/YakuzaDeadSouls''.[[/note]] The other was a remake of [[VideoGame/Yakuza1 the first game]], ''Yakuza Kiwami''. Not only were new features and content from ''0'' implemented into the game, but it also introduced a new mechanic based entirely around Majima, and the story was also expanded to explore [[EvilFormerFriend Akira Nishikiyama's]] descent into villainy.
* ''[[VideoGame/{{Medabots}} Medarot Classics]]'' was released for Medarot's 20th anniversary. A [[LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition 20th Anniversary Editon Box Set]] was released as well which contains both versions of the game, a soundtrack containing 20 of the best songs from the five games, and an art book.
* The ''VideoGame/MetalGear'' series had two anniversary campaigns dedicated to it:
** The ''[=20th=] Anniversary'' campaign (the official logo being a pair of dog tags) saw a plethora of merchandises being released such as collectable figurines, soundtracks, t-shirts and of course, anniversary-themed reissues of the games themselves.
** For the ''[=25th=] Anniversary'' campaign (the logo this time being Snake hiding under a cardboard box with his legs sticking out) saw a similar influx of collectables, most notably "[=PlayArts=] Kai" figures based on characters from the original ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'', as well as an entire event dedicated to showing off the next entry in the series, ''Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes'' (which later evolved into ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain'').
* ''VideoGame/MetalSlug 6'', along with ''Metal Slug 3D'' and the ''Metal Slug Anthology'' pack was created to celebrate ''Metal Slug'''s 10th anniversary.
* For ''VideoGame/MiniMetro'''s 10th anniversary, three new maps from ''VideoGame/MiniMotorways'', Tokyo, Lisbon, and Warsaw, were added in the July 25, 2023 update. Conversely, Dinosaur Polo Club opened a poll for players to vote on which maps from ''Metro'' would be featured in ''Motorways''. New York City, Mumbai, and London were the Top 3 winners and were added in the latter game on the same day.
* For Creator/NipponIchi's 10th anniversary, beleaguered SeriesMascot Asagi Asagiri finally gets her game made as a smartphone RPG.
* In 2011, the Flash game site Creator/{{Nitrome}} released their one hundredth game -- a shooter called ''VideoGame/NitromeMustDie'', in which the player goes on a quest [[SelfDeprecation to destroy Nitrome]] battling legions of characters from previous games as they do so.
* ''VideoGame/PacMan'':
** ''VideoGame/PacManWorld'' was released for the 20th anniversary of the original ''Pac-Man'' -- the plot is even based on [[ABirthdayNotABreak a villain crashing Pac-Man's birthday party]]. ''Pac-Man World 3'' would later be released for his 25th anniversary and likewise features Pac-Man celebrating his 25th birthday, even pointing out "At least this birthday is better than my 20th!"
** Website/{{Google}} celebrated ''Pac-Man''[='=]s 30th Anniversary by putting a [[http://www.google.com/pacman playable Pac-Man game on the Google main page]], where they usually just put picture links (Only ''Series/DoctorWho''[='=]s 50th would also get this same honor). Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment, for their part, announced ''WesternAnimation/PacManAndTheGhostlyAdventures'' during this period (it premiered three years later) and released the new arcade game ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVLOYkLje2Q Pac-Man Battle Royale]]''. [[ArsonMurderAndJayWalking And a Wii party game]], which introduced several character redesigns that would be ultimately finalized by ''Ghostly Adventures''.
** The 35th anniversary was celebrated with the mobile game ''Pac-Man 256'', by the developers of ''VideoGame/CrossyRoad'', while the 40th was celebrated with battle royale-style games called ''Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle'' and ''VideoGame/PacMan99'' (among others).
* ''VideoGame/PaperMarioBlackPit'' is a [[GameMod rom hack]] of the original ''VideoGame/{{Paper Mario|64}}'' made to celebrate it's 20th anniversary.
* ''VideoGame/PAYDAY2'' celebrated its 100th update by way of a major update, the biggest pulls of which were a revamping of the game's skill system and the removal of the controversial {{microtransactions}}, making further in-game safes that could be opened to acquire skins completely free to open.
* In November 2014, Sony celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Japanese launch of the first Playstation by releasing a LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition Platform/PlayStation4 featuring a color scheme similar to the original console. It was produced in ''extremely'' limited quantities.
* The IntraFranchiseCrossover ''VideoGame/PowerRangersBattleForTheGrid'' was released for the 25th anniversary of the ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' franchise (despite coming out in its 26th year).
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** The franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016 by doing a number of things:
*** For each month of the year starting in February, one [[SecretCharacter Mythical Pokémon]] was distributed for the Generation VI games via various outlets depending on region (usually download codes given out at game stores for free). The release order was Mew in February, Celebi in March, Jirachi in April, Darkrai in May, Manaphy in June, Shaymin in July, Arceus in August, Victini in September, Keldeo in October, Genesect in November, and Meloetta in December.
*** On the actual anniversary date of February 27, ''VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue'', ''Pokémon Yellow'', and ''Pokémon Green'' (Japan only) were released on the 3DS Virtual Console. Also released were specially colored 3DS/2DS bundles with one of the correspondingly-colored games already installed.
*** Also on the actual anniversary date (in Japan), there was a worldwide announcement for the next core games, ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' with a Holiday 2016 release date.
*** The earliest cards from [[TabletopGame/{{Pokemon}} the official Trading Card Game]] were reprinted.
*** Two new games were released, ''VideoGame/PokemonGo'' for mobile and ''VideoGame/PokkenTournament'' for the Platform/WiiU.
*** ''Anime/PokemonTheFirstMovie'', ''Anime/{{Pokemon 2000}}'', ''Anime/{{Pokemon 3}}'', and ''Anime/Pokemon4Ever'' were digitally remastered.
*** In ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'', three Pokémon costumes (based respectively on Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle) were made unlockable in an update.
*** ''Pokémon''[='=]s official Youtube channel also released a number of shorts called ''WebAnimation/PokemonGenerations'', which can be viewed [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQWzKIaERirwv9M89dxN3bNLY0PyuChOU here]].
** For the 25th anniversary, ''Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl'', remakes of ''VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl'' for the Platform/NintendoSwitch were announced for a late 2021 release. Also announced for a 2022 release is ''VideoGame/PokemonLegendsArceus'', a seemingly WideOpenSandbox take on the series set in a feudal-era Sinnoh.
** Gimmighoul and Gholdengo are Milestone Celebration ''Pokémon'' being the 999th and 1000th Pokémon in the series' Pokédex; with Gimmighoul debuting almost simultaneously in ''VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'' and ''VideoGame/PokemonGo'' and requiring an in game grind of 999 coins to evolve into Gholdengo.
** In honor of exceeding 1000 Pokémon with ''VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'', the official [=YouTube=] channel premiered [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYJwN4cvde0 a special nine-minute video]] showcasing all 1008 Pokémon, with the first six minutes being a recap of the first eight generations of Pokémon sorted by situational encounters, evolution gimmicks, etc., and the remaining three minutes featuring the ''Scarlet and Violet'' newcomers presented by their National Pokédex numbers.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonSleep'' gave out free gift bundles for various milestones such as [[https://www.pokemonsleep.net/en/news/2465/ reaching 10 million downloads]] and [[https://www.pokemonsleep.net/en/news/4621/ its 6-month anniversary.]]
* According to [[http://www.famitsu.com/news/201505/26079347.html Famitsu]], ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone 2'' was created not only as a sequel to ''Project X Zone'', but to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' as well.
* ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'':
** For the 15th anniversary, Sega released ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo15thAnniversary'', which brought back older characters that had been missing in the ''Fever'' games. Also has a multitude of modes and story routes to play.
** For the 20th anniversary, Sega released ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo20thAnniversary'', which invited characters that debuted or returned from ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo7''. Like 15th, there are a multitude of modes and story routes to play, and even more treats like retro spells from ''Puyo Puyo CD 2'' and ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyoSun'' via cheat code.
** For the [[ArcNumber 2]][[GoroawaseNumber 4]]th anniversary, a stage play titled ''Puyo Puyo On Stage'' was performed, along with a DVD of the performance.
** For the 25th Anniversary, Sega released ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyoChronicle'', which again has lots of modes to play, but more notably, is the second time in the series after ''Puyo Puyo DA!'' to go [[VideoGame3DLeap full 3D]] with a chibi artstyle. It also introduced an RPG mode with the Skill Battle ruleset being the main focus. Despite the last anniversary games being multiplatform, ''Chronicle'' is [[Platform/Nintendo3DS Nintendo 3DS]] exclusive.
** While ''Puyo Puyo Champions'' is not an anniversary game in the same way as its predecessors, its Japanese release date was on October 25, 2018, which is the 27th anniversary of ''Puyo Puyo'' for the Platform/MSX2 and [[Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem Famicom Disk System]].
* ''VideoGame/RaidenV'' was planned to have a 2015 release to coincide with the main ''Raiden'' series' 25th anniversary. However, [[VaporWare it was delayed]] [[SavedFromDevelopmentHell until February 2016]], in which, coincidentally, 2016 was the 25th anniversary of ''Raiden Trad'' (the first ''Raiden'' consumer port) as well as 20th anniversary of ''VideoGame/RaidenFighters'' spinoff, which WordOfGod never explicitly mentioned on.
* ''VideoGame/RatchetAndClankFullFrontalAssault'' was released to commemorate the duo's 10th anniversary.
* ''VideoGame/RuneScape'' celebrated its 100th quest with a continuation of the first one, divided in several segments with their own rewards. It was basically the biggest quest until that point.
* The ''VideoGame/{{SaGa|RPG}}'' series celebrated its 20th anniversary by remaking ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyLegendII'' as ''[=SaGa 2 Hihou Densetsu -Goddess of Destiny-=]''...and releasing a [[ArchivePanic 20-disc compilation]] of all the ''[=SaGa=]'' soundtracks.
* ''VideoGame/{{Shadowverse}}'': For every 1 million downloads, Cygames gives away X free packs of the latest expansion equivalent to the X million times the game has been downloaded. There are also Anniversary events commemorating years of the game, which give free packs from all expansions to the players, as well as the Polls which allow the player to vote which among the characters should be featured as the next leaders.
* ''VideoGame/TheSims3'': High-End Loft Stuff. Since it was released around the time of The Sims franchise's 10th anniversary, 3 items from the original game were included in the pack: the giant fish tank, the electric guitar, [[BreadEggsMilkSquick and the vibrating love bed]].
* In celebration of their 40th anniversary, SNK released ''SNK 40th Anniversary Collection'', a compilation title of the company's earliest games, including (but not limited to) ''VideoGame/{{Crystalis}}'', ''VideoGame/IkariWarriors'', and ''VideoGame/PsychoSoldier''. They also released the Platform/NeoGeo Mini, a plug-and-play console designed after the Neo Geo arcade cabinets of the [=1990s=] and containing forty different games.
* ''VideoGame/SolatoroboRedTheHunter'' is considered to be Creator/CyberConnect2's 15th anniversary celebration, being a SpiritualSequel to [[VideoGame/TailConcerto the very first game they developed]]. Likewise, ''VideoGame/FugaMelodiesOfSteel'' is treated as their 25th anniversary celebration.
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' has gone through several, starting in 2001:
** The tenth anniversary was celebrated with ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'', which saw the release of a "Birthday Pack", which included the game, a commemorative coin, a soundtrack CD, a booklet on the history of the franchise, and a special binding to hold them together. Later that same year, ''Sonic Adventure 2: Battle'' (an upgraded version of Sonic Adventure 2) and ''VideoGame/{{Sonic Advance|Trilogy}}'' were both released in Japan before hitting elsewhere a year later.
** The fifteenth, in 2006, with ''VideoGame/SonicRiders'', ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1 [[UpdatedReRelease Genesis]]'' and ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006''.
** The 20th anniversary game (2011), ''VideoGame/SonicGenerations'', builds off the successes of ''VideoGame/SonicColors'' and ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog4'' one year prior. Its biggest selling point is [[MeetYourEarlyInstallmentWeirdness the return of the classic]], black-eyed Sonic, running alongside the modern, green eyed one, each with their respective, seperate gameplay in a time travel plot that revisits areas from the preceding nine main games of the series. [[LampshadeHanging The plot is even based on a time-altering villain crashing Sonic's birthday party.]]\
\
It's not just the hedgehog celebrating his 20th birthday --- the Music/{{Vocaloid}}s get in the act in a minor way, as the third title of Sega's ''Project Diva'' series of Vocaloid {{Licensed Game}}s, released just a few days after ''Generations'', includes a Vocaloid cover of "[[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 Live & Learn]]" in the [[{{Feelies}} bundled]] bonus CD and an in-game Sonic costume for Miku '''because''' of ''Generations'' (in contrast the other Sega-themed costumes in the series[[note]]culled from ''VideoGame/SpaceChannel5'', ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'', ''VideoGame/VirtuaFighter'' and ''VideoGame/VirtualOn''[[/note]] were included merely for the sake of {{Shout Out}}s).
** ''VideoGame/SonicMania'' and ''VideoGame/SonicForces'' were both made for the 25th anniversary. The former is a {{Retraux}} 2D platformer headed by several {{Promoted Fanboy}}s, while the latter brought back Classic Sonic again for a CrisisCrossover. Perhaps thanks to lessons learned after ''Sonic 2006'', both games were released the following year (2016 marks 25 years since the release of ''Sonic the Hedgehog''). ''Sonic Mania'' in particular launched with a celebratory limited edition physical release that includes a code to download the game, a statue of Sonic standing on a Genesis that plays the "SEGAAAA" fanfare, and a gold ring inside of a replica Sega Genesis cart.
** Sonic's 30th Anniversary was a bit more low key compared to the previous anniversaries due to the ongoing UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic affecting plans, but Sega still celebrated the occasion in a big way. The occasion was celebrated by the release of ''Sonic Colors Ultimate'' (a remastered port of ''VideoGame/SonicColors''), the first unveilings of ''Sonic Origins'' (a CompilationRerelease featuring remasters of the first four classic games) and ''VideoGame/SonicFrontiers'', a 30th anniversary themed-symphony, and the release of the ''Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia'', (a comprehensive encyclopedia on the history of the main series titles written by long-time ''Sonic'' comic writer Creator/IanFlynn). In addition, an official DLC pack for ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' was developed and released by Gamemode One, numerous collaborations occurred with various Sega games and [[https://twitter.com/SonicOfficialJP/status/1408062951769010180 Sonic himself became a]] VirtualYouTuber. IDW would also release several [[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDW30thAnniversarySpecial Classic Sonic]]-[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDW30thAnniversaryFCBD2021 themed comics for the occasion]].
** 2023 appears to be the year of Amy Rose, who made her debut in 1993's ''VideoGame/SonicCD''. The spinoff VisualNovel ''VisualNovel/TheMurderOfSonicTheHedgehog'' is set during Amy's birthday, ''Sonic Origins'' received the Plus Expansion Pack that has Amy PromotedToPlayable among other additions, and ''VideoGame/SonicSuperstars'' has Amy adventuring alongside Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
* ''VideoGame/SoulcaliburVI'' is a ContinuityReboot that returns to the original ''Soulcalibur'' era of the series, and was chosen in part because the game was released in 2018, on the twentieth anniversary of the original ''Soulcalibur'' first hitting arcade stores.
* ''VideoGame/SpaceInvaders'' celebrated their 30th anniversary with ''Space Invaders Get Even'', where the eponymous invaders become {{Villain Protagonist}}s. They also released ''Space Invaders Extreme'', which is a modern revamping of the game.
* ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'' did the following to celebrate its first anniversary of release:
** The Splatfest for July, its month of release, was Squid vs. Octopus, reflecting the [[PlayerCharacter Inklings]] and the [[EvilCounterpartRace Octarians]]. Your player character also matched your side, meaning that people can try out Octolings without buying the [[ExpansionPack Octo Expansion]]. During the Splatfest itself, confetti fell at the start of each match, and the Shifty Station had fireworks, neither of which other Splatfests had. In-universe, Pearl and Marina note that it's first anniversary of them hosting Inkopolis News.
** In [[MultiMookMelee Salmon Run]], the shift on the anniversary was an exact copy of the one on launch day [[note]]Splattershot Jr., Splat Dualies, Splat Roller, and Splat Charger on Spawning Grounds[[/note]]. Earlier in the month, there was a special shift with ''[[NoKillLikeOverKill nothing]] [[CatharsisFactor but]] [[PurposefullyOverpowered Grizzco weapons]]''.
* ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'' has done a number of these for each year and then some.
** Year One Celebration - the alteration of Earth Spacedock into one more canonlike.
** Year Two Celebration - the introduction of the ''Odyssey'' and ''Bortasqu[='=]''-class ships
** Year Three Celebration - the "Temporal Ambassador" event, reintroducing [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Tasha Yar]] and the ''Enterprise''-C. The ''Ambassador''-class and ''Kamarag''-class ships joined the collection.

** Year Five Celebration - the mission "Dust to Dust", a continuation of the Kobali storyline and a follow up to the ''Voyager'' episode "Ashes to Ashes" and the introduction of the Kobali Samsar Cruiser.
** Year Six Celebration - the mission "Time and Tide", which kicks off the Temporal Cold War, and the introduction of the Krenim Science Vessel.
** There was also a celebration for ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'''s 25th Anniversary, which gave players Worf's Season One sash.
** The third expansion, ''Agents of Yesterday'', is being released in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the original series, allowing players to create a captain that hailed from that time frame.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** The franchise celebrated its anniversary [[note]]that is, of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'', not of Mario's real debut in ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong''[[/note]] with "[[GratuitousEnglish Happy! Mario 20th]]". They had a website (now defunct) and a soundtrack (with selections from the original game, ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosTheLostLevels'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'', ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'', and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'') to celebrate with it, and they even offered a [[https://media.sonicscanf.org//gallery/sonic-the-hedgehog/Mario%2020th.png "20th Happy Mario!"]] ''Franchise/{{Sonic|TheHedgehog}}'' shirt!
** For the 25th Anniversary in 2010, Nintendo set up [[http://www.nintendo.co.jp/mario25th/ two]] [[http://mario25th.nintendo.com/ websites]] and rereleased the SNES game ''VideoGame/SuperMarioAllStars'' for the Platform/{{Wii}} with a book and soundtrack.
** Nintendo also celebrated the 30th anniversary of Luigi's first appearance in ''VideoGame/MarioBros'', calling the year 2013 "Advertising/TheYearOfLuigi" in order to celebrate the release of three Luigi-centered games (''VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'', ''[[VideoGame/DrMario Dr. Luigi]]'', and ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam''), as well as the ''VideoGame/NewSuperLuigiU'' ExpansionPack for ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' and a Luigi-centric version of ''VideoGame/MarioBros'' unlockable in ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld''.
** The 30th anniversary of ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' was celebrated with the release of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'', a GameMaker allowing players to create 2D Mario levels of their own including art styles based on ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'', and ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU''. The game was released on September 11th, 2015, the Friday before the exact birthday of the franchise (''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'' was released in Japan in September 13th, 1985). Website/{{Google}} also celebrated the anniversary by adding a question mark box straight from the first 8-bit title (which even gives you a coin when you click it, and an extra life if you click it 100 times) when you search for "Super Mario Bros.".
** ''Super Mario Maker'' itself celebrated the 25th anniversary of ''Manga/SuperMarioBrosMangaMania'' by having an Event Course based on it available. Completing it unlocks a costume based on Mario-kun.
** The 35th anniversary of the franchise was honored with, among other things, ''Super Mario 3D All-Stars'', an UpdatedRerelease [[CompilationRerelease collection]] of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy''; ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld + VideoGame/BowsersFury''; the augmented reality game ''VideoGame/MarioKart Live: Home Circuit''; a special Game and Watch unit containing the first game, ''The Lost Levels'' and a Mario-themed variant of the ''Ball'' game; a 35th Anniversary Ninji Speedrun in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker2''; ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros35'', an online competitive version of ''Super Mario Bros.''; and various licensed product deals.
* ''VideoGame/SuperMonkeyBall'':
** The franchise celebrated its 10th anniversary with the release of ''Super Monkey Ball [=3D=]'', Sega also opened up an anniversary website for the franchise at that time.
** In time for the franchise's 20th anniversary, Sega released ''Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania'', an enhanced remake of the franchise's first three games with new features. Sonic's official social media accounts [[https://twitter.com/sonic_hedgehog/status/1408151166345641985 also got in on a bit of the fun]].
* The ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' franchise often releases a new installment for every fifth year since its inception:
** The 15th anniversary was ''VideoGame/{{Super Robot Wars Original Generation}}s'', compiling both ''Original Generation'' titles from the Creator/{{Nintendo}} Platform/GameBoyAdvance into a single game, effectively [[ContinuityReboot rebooting]] the sub-series.
** The 20th anniversary was the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Second Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen'']]
** The 25th anniversary was the ''Original Generation'' sequel ''The Moon Dwellers'', which had the honor of being released ''in English'' for non-Japanese regions.
** The 30th anniversary game will be the aptly named ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30'', which will have the honor of actually being the first game is the series with licensed characters to be released in North America and Europe.
* Although it was meant to be released in 2020 until it was delayed to 2021, ''VideoGame/TalesOfArise'' was made to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ''VideoGame/TalesSeries''.
* Parodied in ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'': Valve meant to commemorate their 100th update with the medals that showed how long it was since you first started playing the game, but they had to put a bunch of other, minor updates before then. So when it finally came out, it was the 119th update, and they acted as if this was some major milestone to celebrate. It's also worth noting that the 300th update was a fairly major update that came with the release of Meet the Pyro, the last Meet the Team video.
* The developers of ''VideoGame/{{Terraria}}'' schedule its final and largest update, "Journey's End", for May 16, 2020 - the 9th anniversary of the original release.
** Followed by a smaller update exactly a year later which adds another special world seed accessed by typing "celebrationmk10" or numbers corresponding to the update release date or Terraria's original release date ("05162011", "05162021", etc.). Doing so spawns you on a painted beach on either side of the world with a party immediately started and several [=NPCs=], three of them named after the lead developers.
* ''VideoGame/TwistedWonderland'': To celebrate the first anniversary of the game, the "First Anniversary" event was held from March 8 to March 22. The story chapters of the event say that March 18 was the day when [[WizardingSchool Night Raven College]] was founded, and a ceremony is held every year on the anniversary of that date, of which the first year students are shown enjoying the festivities.
* Creator/EpicGames celebrated 20 years of the ''VideoGame/{{Unreal}}'' series in May 2018 by giving [[VideoGame/UnrealI the original game]] away for free on Platform/GogDotCom and Platform/{{Steam}} over a period of 48 hours.
* ''VideoGame/WarioWareGold'' came out in 2018, the 15th anniversary of the franchise. While it isn't explicitly tied to the anniversary, one of the unlockable phone codes has one of the game's devs acknowledge the milestone.
* The ''VideoGame/WorldOfMana'' series celebrated its 25th anniversary with a mobile and Platform/PlayStationVita remake of the first game, ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyAdventure'' (which was called ''Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden'' [[MarketBasedTitle in Japan]]; the series separated from ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' with ''VideoGame/SecretOfMana'' worldwide rather than this being a true case of DolledUpInstallment), with the remake being renamed ''Adventures of Mana'' internationally.
* ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1: Definitive Edition'' came out just 11 days before the 10th anniversary of its original Japanese release date.
