Set in 1670. En route back to Venice from Barcelona in a trading negotiation, Eliza Cortly and her husband Stefano receive a summon on their stop in Spain from a mysterious Englishman named Eliphas Coyte who requests Eliza's presence - and when Eliza heeds his call, she finds Coyte may have a few secrets of his own. An entry in ''The Never Mythos'' and a prequel to ''The City Of Never.''

----
!! The work contains examples of the following tropes:

* AdmiringTheAbomination: Eliphas Coyte is ''quite'' fond of the darkness of the abyss.
* AwfulWeddedLife: While her husband seems oblivious to it, Eliza is ''quite'' unhappy with her marriage.
* BodyHorror: Coyte has become hideous and his body utterly twisted by his pacts with otherworldly forces.
* BrainlessBeauty: Eliza's husband Stefano is pleasant enough to look at, but she freely admits he's a moron and she loathes being married to him.
* EyeScream: Eliza is forced to plant a knife in Coyte's eye to escape him.
* HumanoidAbomination: Coyte is no longer human, and the description of him is utterly revolting.
* TheLostLenore: Eliza remembers her lover Aisling, separated from her thanks to the Consultant, with incredible fondness and longing.
* MalevolentMaskedMan: The Consultant is mentioned again, and given how it's the one who who massacres Seers and entire towns around them, it certainly fits the mold. [[spoiler: Minus the 'man' part, not that Eliza knows it yet.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Not ''intentionally'', but Eliza really doesn't care much about being seen nude by others.
