8	* AdaptationalBadass: Gabe initially had to rely on special equipment to use his powers at all in the original series. In this continuity, Gabe starts out much more powerful. He can already absorb ambient heat and achieve limited flight by bouncing off buildings.
9	* BackgroundMagicField: The Affect is a cosmic energy field powered by emotions which in turn has mutated most of humanity in various ways.
10	* BerserkButton: Slavery is a major sore spot for Gabe.
11	* BewareTheSuperman: Foundation is run by Affected called "capes." Most of them just pose as superheroes while oppressing the populace.
12	* BrokenAce: Gabe has a ton of power and a ton of issues. His insecurity and cynicism about the world make his internal emotional state not line up with his ability to change things.
13	* ByronicHero: Gabe is a sullen, yet powerful and magnetic person. He can be personally hard to like but he's also full of passion and ideal. He also views the word and interacts with it in a violent way.
14	* CapePunk: Inheritors deals with a world where 98% of people have superpowers of some kind, although with varying degrees of usefulness from not at all to world-changing.
15	* ClassicalAntiHero: Gabe wants to be a hero just like Megajoule, but is plagued by an overwhelming inferiority complex.
16	* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Gabe to the max. Turns out being a BigDamnHero runs in the DNA. He knows it isn't smart - he just can't help it.
17	* CosmicHorrorStory: The Affect is just as likely to turn people into cosmic horrors as it is to turn them into superhumans.
18	* EnergyAbsorption: Megajoule's power, and by extension, Gabe's as well. Megajoule could absorb, redirect, and convert any kind of energy he wished. However, [[spoiler: Gabe learned that he can only absorb, redirect, and convert kinetic and thermal energy. This is a significant nerf from Megajoule's powers, but on the other end of the coin, Gabe's use of thermal energy is so instinctual that he is shown to be immune to all temperature conditions, something Megajoule had to actively manage.]]

21	* EldritchAbomination: The Affect turns certain people into this, trapping them in a physical embodiment of their worst emotions. Foundation calls these "Affect Entities" and classifies them outside of the human scale of Affect power.
22	* GenderFlip: In the original series, Gabe's ward is a girl named Maisa. Here, it's a boy named Mateo.
23	* HardLight: Mateo can produce and manipulate hard light discs.
24	* {{Jerkass}}: The Megajoule memory construct is nasty piece of work. All he really does is try to make Gabe feel worthless.
25	* LaResistance: The Houston Egalitarian Front is an anarchist gang whose goal is the abolition of capes.
26	* LightningBruiser: Gabe can launch himself through the air, absorb the energy of bullets, and hits hard enough to burst the windows of the buildings around him at one point. However, he needs to absorb enough energy to do this, and as a result, his power tends to scale based on who he's fighting; if he's fighting common thugs they don't give him enough energy to go nova, but when he fights super strong humans, he can unleash a lot more damage.
27	* LivingMemory: A part of Megajoule was actually preserved in Gabe's mind as a "memory construct." This mental duplicate does nothing but complain and spout snarky commentary, which makes him more annoying than helpful.
28	* PowerLevels: Foundation made an Affect ranking system based on their ability to impact society.
29	** Featherweight: [[UnSorcerer Non-Affected]].
30	** Lightweight: Affected with useless mutations and no powers. They make up most of the world populace
31	** Welterweight: Affected with very specific powers of limited use.

34	* RisingEmpire: What's left of the United States has been taken over by a totalitarian regime called Foundation.
35	* SpiderSense: Gabe has a "kinetic-thermal sense" that gives him an omnidirectional awareness of his surroundings similar to ComicBook/{{Daredevil}}'s radar sense.
36	* SpySatellites: Foundation has an extensive network of drones that patrol the streets.
