The already JerkAss Haseo starts going to every length possible to find who or whatever caused Shino, the only one he could really open up to, to fall into a [[spoiler:coma]], but his [[DrunkWithPower obsession quickly causes him to lose his way.]] Both Shino and Haseo are Tabby's friends, and she just wants to help them both in any way she can, in the game or in the real world. Haseo thinks she's just getting in the way, but that's ''HIS'' problem. Even after telling her to never show herself ever again, she continues to help him in any way she can, just to ensure his happiness. Things work out in the end for everyone though when Haseo comes to his senses and apologizes to Tabby and thanks her for everything she's done and sticking with him through everything he put her through.
10	* At the end of ''Manga/AssassinationClassroom'', despite her feelings for Nagisa, Kayano decides to not let him know how she feels so he can concentrate on his chosen career as a teacher and she doesn't want to distract him.
11	* Eren of ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' ''tries'' to have this attitude regarding [[spoiler:Mikasa in light of his impending death (at her hand, no less). But confesses to Armin that he'd rather she just keep loving him even after he dies. The epilogue implies that Mikasa did go on to marry another man and start a family with him. But she still kept the scarf Eren gave her when they first met until she dies as an old woman and made annual visits to the tree where she buried Eren's head implying he always had a place in her heart]].
12	* Soga of ''Manga/AyakashiTriangle'' ends up falling for ''both'' sides of the manga's main couple, Suzu and Matsuri, [[JumpingTheGenderBarrier thanks to the latter being transformed from male to female]]. Once he sees how much Suzu loves Matsuri, and Matsuri admits he feels the same, Soga openly encourages them to get together. Soga also supports Matsuri's desire to become male again, though he's in denial of his feelings for female Matsuri, and thus how much pain it would cause him.
13	* ''Manga/BattleAngelAlita'' has an odd example where a character sets her love interest up with ''herself''. [[spoiler: Or rather, a clone of herself, created using her original brain, which Alita does when she realizes that she may not survive the final leg of her journey and fulfill her promise to return to Figure Four]].
14	* ''Manga/BiNoKyoujin'' has Kouki, Nirasawa's partner in crime and on-and-off best friend who is actually in love with him. But since Nirasawa doesn't reciprocate and is already spoken for, namely by a {{Yakuza}} leader who treats him fairly, Kouki accepts the situation and eventually decides to leave town so as to start anew somewhere else.
15	* Yuzu Yamamoto in ''Manga/BitterVirgin'' liked the main lead Daisuke Suwa. She was quick to notice that Daisuke was developing feelings for Hinako Aikawa, and after some wrestling with the issue decided to support Hinako. Up until [[spoiler:she inadvertently learned Hinako had given birth to a child]] and ends up blurting this out to Daisuke. Unknown to her, Daisuke was fully aware of this already and it only cements her status as UnluckyChildhoodFriend. Also, resident {{Yandere}} Kazuki also has a moment of this when she comes to the same realization as Yuzu. Though in her case she's only stepping aside temporarily as everyone is certain the relationship will ultimately fail. (Including Hinako and Daisuke, themselves.)
16	* Elizabeth from ''Manga/BlackButler'' to the point where's she is willing to [[spoiler:give her own life away and drown]] just to see Ciel smile again.
17	* In ''Anime/BloodPlus'', use of this trope could be attributed to several characters, the most notable being Mao and Haji.

21	* In ''Manga/BloomIntoYou'', Sayaka Saeki, Touko Nanami's best friend, is initially rather jealous of Yuu Koito's closeness with Touko, beginning when Touko asks Yuu, whom she's just met, to be her campaign manager despite having known Sayaka for a year. It is gradually revealed that Sayaka is in love with Touko, but doesn't confess, partly out of consideration for Touko and partly out of fear of Touko rejecting her. Near the end of the series, Sayaka confesses to Touko, but Touko, who is still mulling over Yuu's previous confession, turns Sayaka down. Sayaka immediately understands that Touko chose Yuu over her, and when she sees Yuu next, [[MeaningfulEcho asks Yuu to take care of Touko, just like she'd said around the time Yuu became Touko's campaign manager]]. The end of the series shows that Sayaka and Touko are still friends, albeit having drifted apart a little, and Sayaka [[SecondLove has a girlfriend named Haru]].
22	* Shigeru, Sakurako, Rui, Kazuya, and Umi in ''Manga/BoysOverFlowers'' give up their pursuit of Tsukushi and Domyouji so the two of them can stay together.

When asked why he went to these lengths he explains that the world is a cruel place and helping others obtain their happiness is the right thing to do. It also helps that he was a widower who loved his first wife (and still does), and knows how rare and precious a thing love is and how cruel it is to take it from someone.

Other onlookers among the cast, including Tsuzuki's partner Hisoka and the Count responsible for the whole mess, are mostly puzzled and amused to varying degrees.)

In the original dialogue, Tai is said to have helped Matt confess his feelings for Sora, with no indication that he himself felt anything for her other than friendship. The English dubbers, however, due to favoring the [[PortmanteauCoupleName Taiora]] pairing, changed the dialogue to make it seem like Tai and Matt were ''both'' in love with Sora, but that Sora chose Matt and Tai chose to give up on her so that she and Matt could be happy together.

Subverted later as she does pursue her feelings for Hayate and is even encouraged by her friend Nishizawa (sort of a friendly competition).
