Context Heartwarming / TheLibrarians2014

Go To

!! General
* Pretty much all of Cassandra and Ezekiel's interactions with each other, whether considered platonic or romantic by the fans, are sweet and endearing.
* The way Cassandra smiles at Stone (and, once in a while, vice versa). Again, whether platonic or romantic, it's very clear that she does care for him deeply, and that underneath the gruff snarkiness, he cares about her too (albeit that it takes him a while to forgive her for her betrayal).
* Eve always understands that it's been a long time since Flynn could rely on others and never puts too much pressure on him, usually being patient when he keeps secrets and pulls the "lone, self-sacrificing hero" act. At the same time, she loves him enough to call him out whenever he goes too far over the line.
* The way that all four Librarians and their Guardian (plus Jenkins) come together. None of them exactly had ideal families (in most if not all cases very much less than ideal), but all of them found a family in each other.

!! Season One
* From the very beginning, even though he clearly doesn't want new Librarians or a new Guardian, Flynn is almost always kind and welcoming to Eve, Jacob, Cassandra, and Ezekiel. Seeing him open up to Eve, despite his protests, is particularly lovely.
* In "And the Sword in the Stone," Jenkins motivating Eve to talk to Flynn after his (Flynn's) Heroic B.S.O.D. Particularly heartwarming in hindsight when he later reveals that the true purpose of the Guardian isn't to stop Librarians from getting into physical danger, but to perform exactly this role--to offer moral support when they flag or falter, keeping them away from despair or greed.
** Eve's speech to Flynn; it proves to be enough to motivate him to continue even after the short time they had known each other.
* At the end of "And The Horns of a Dilemma" Eve tells the L.I.Ts that she's proud of them. This scene really shows the transition from people who were just put together to a team.
* Pretty much the whole ending of "And Santa's Midnight Run," especially Baird having the Christmas Wish she didn't even know she made granted: to have her faith in the holiday and mankind restored. Not only that, but she gets a family to celebrate the holiday with.
** Particularly heartwarming given that it's stated or implied that none of the main characters have had healthy family relationships.
* Cassandra destroying Katie Benders' ghost and restoring the house of refuge to its true glory in "And the Heart of Darkness". You wouldn't expect to feel so happy for a piece of architecture.
* Dulaque giving Jenkins a sincere embrace and blessing at the end of "And the Apple of Discord." Possibly even more heartwarming given the later reveal (particularly for those who know the relationship between the two, assuming that the myths are correct--and a later line from Jenkins heavily implies that they are).
** Earlier, Ezekiel, of all people, talks Jenkins into staying with the Library when the other man is fed up and utterly frustrated. Ezekiel reminds him that no matter how much you might feel like your life is predetermined, there's always a choice.
* In the alternate universe where Ezekiel is the Librarian, he says that his Eve was like a mother to him. Though she's a little freaked out, given their respective ages, it's also very sweet. Particularly given that it seems like she's been pretty much his ''only'' parental figure--when we later meet the woman who raised him, it's pretty clear which of the two of them cares for him more.

!! Season Two
* Eve pulling Flynn into a snog at the end of "And the Drowned Book."
** Earlier, he remembered that she'd said she wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty. Admittedly, it was partially to help save the city, but they probably could've used a skyscraper or something, and she's touched that he remembered.
* Jenkins taking the time to talk to Stone about difficult father-son relationships (something he knows a little about), and how we can't choose where we came from, but we can choose who we are.
* "And the Cost of Salvation" has a bit at the end where Cassandra stands up to Jenkins about her belief that magic shouldn't only be locked away. Instead of getting angry, he gently explains why the Library does what it does. She points out that she is choosing to stay, and that for the first time, she feels like she's taking control of her own life rather than following someone else's plan.
** Earlier, she'd stood up to Baird as well in her determination to rescue Lucy, and Eve and Jenkins comment that she isn't sure whether to be more proud or sad.
* "And the Hollow Men" when the Ray [[spoiler: aka, the Library]] tells Flynn that he remembers that Flynn is his best friend.
** Jenkins says to Baird and Flynn that he's relieved to see them come back safely. Just a season ago, it would be impossible to imagine him saying that (unless maybe it was dragged out of him under torture).
* "And the Point of Salvation": When the Librarians are trapped inside a video game, Eve tells Jones a story about how a group of soldiers from World War Two were massacred trying to cross a river, and a colonel says that they were the bravest men he'd ever seen. Another group came forward and tried anyway, and a second colonel says that ''those'' are the bravest men he's ever seen.
** Jones reveals that Eve's told him that story multiple times, but he always loves the way she looks at him when she tells it.
--> "I'm not your friend. But you're my friends...So please, just this once. Let me be the big brother."
--> "What do you need us to do?"
** And at the end, he willingly and knowingly sacrifices himself so that his friends will be saved.
* In season two's "And the Infernal Contract," the demon Sesselman tries to tempt the younger Librarians into signing a contract with him, offering both rescue from the immediate peril they're in, and each Librarian's heart's desire: the chance to travel the world and be "a swashbuckler in a world of accountants" for Ezekiel, healing her brain tumor and allowing her to create "a golden age of mathemagics" for Cassandra. What does he offer to Jacob Stone, tempting him enough to suggest that one of them should maybe take the hit? Simply the chance to save his friends.
** Also, when Jenkins is taking care of the others then gives Eve the advice about being a Guardian--that she's not just there to protect the body of the Librarian(s), but their souls, to keep them on the straight and narrow. Both of these are small moments but help show how Jenkins cares more then he claims to.
** Baird shows that she's warmed up to Jenkins by comparing his (utter lack of) bedside manner to a combat medic she knew, adding that she wouldn't go on a mission without said medic.
** He also mentions that he's always, throughout his life, thought of himself as a caretaker. Given that the focus is usually either on his inventions or combat experience, it's really very sweet.
** One might think that Ezekiel would be tempted to save his own life at the expense of others. However, he never even seems to consider it.
* How do Flynn and Eve break each other's spells in "And the Happily Ever Afters?" True Love's Kiss, of course!
** Flynn gives her a very significant glance as he confesses that being a Librarian is not all he needs.
* "And the Final Curtain" has Jenkins implicitly compare Flynn to ''King Arthur'', and says that he did very well.
** Flynn tells Eve that if they hadn't come back from being statues, he wouldn't have minded so much, because he wants nothing more than to kiss her for eternity. Cue her grabbing Flynn and snogging his brains out.
** Cal is back!
** Jenkins says that his guardian is Eve. Incredibly heartwarming as it is, and perhaps even more so following "And the Fatal Separation."

!! Season Three
* Eve showing loads of faith in Ezekiel throughout "and the Reunion of Evil," encouraging him to be his best self. By the end of the episode, Jenkins has come to agree with her!
** It's also sweet seeing how he snuggles Nessie's egg in his cardigan.
* Jacob tells Cassandra that the reason he's against her using magic is that it isn't that he doesn't trust ''her,'' but he's worried about the unforeseen side effects. He might not come right out and say it, but he's clearly worried about her well-being and wants her to be safe.
* In "And the Self-fulfilling Prophecy" Ezekiel and Jake both offer for the reaper to take them instead of Eve. Despite how much Ezekiel brags that he only cares about himself, he really does care about the team.
** Also in that episode, Jake, Cassandra and Ezekiel are all trying to make Eve stay in the bar with them since they're worried she'll be lonely since Flynn went off on his own again.
** The school principal in that episode, when The Reaper first appears to the group, is right there alongside Baird telling everyone to stay behind him. He's with one of his students, the school's janitor, Ms. Mitrani, and three people he'd never met before, and yet he's willing to risk his life for theirs.
** It turns out at the end that the makeup mirror Eve got was a gift from the Library itself. Earlier, she'd asked who guards the Guardians; the answer is the Library itself.
** Eve and Jenkins have moved firmly into the territory of being true friends, with her referring to him as "the world's oldest soldier" and showing absolute trust that he'll have her back when necessary; in turn, he refers to her by her first name and expresses genuine concern when it seems she's destined to die, and is clearly very glad when she breaks the prophecy.
* "And the Tears of a Clown" starts off with Jenkins moving through a carnival, looking at a video message from Eve telling him on no account to come after them (which, naturally, he ignored). Later, she chews him out for ignoring her instructions, pointing out that with herself and the other Librarians captured, Charlene disappeared, Judson gone, and Flynn in and out, if Jenkins had been captured things could've gotten really bad for the rest of the world. Jenkins concedes the point...then adds that ''nothing'' would've stopped him from coming after her. Cue one of the very few times in the ''entire series'' that Eve looks vulnerable. The smile she gives him is absolutely lovely.
-->'''Eve:''' Oh...Remind me to never doubt you again.
* Flynn tells Eve that he's loved her since he first laid eyes on her, and by the end of the episode, has confronted his own flaws and determined to be better and more of a team player. He proves his sincerity by asking Ezekiel and Cassandra to come up with an idea for what to do with their captured DOSA agent, and asking Jacob for a beer.
* Flynn, to Eve: "I love you more than anyone I've ever known, anything I've ever learned. I love you more than learning itself." She really is the love of his life.
* "And the Curse of Cindy" has Ezekiel talk to Cindy, who's been using an obsession potion to make everyone devoted to her because she's so lonely. Ezekiel shows her the difference between obsession and actual love, and talks to her about the hole in his heart, too, how he knows what it's like to be lonely and unloved, but that if you let the hole in your heart grow, it'll never stop.
-->'''Ezekiel:''' It’s not about who or how many people love you. It’s about who you love.
** At the end, they share a passionate kiss.
** Stone conjectures that the real reason the potion never worked on Jones is that he was already in love with her.
* In "And the Eternal Question", Cassandra fears getting her tumor removed because she thinks that it was the reason The Library chose her. Jenkins and Flynn both point out that this is nonsense, as the Library chose a person, not a tumor. She was chosen because of who she is, not because of a brain condition.
** Same episode: the way the whole team worries over her in the hospital waiting room. It really drives home what a family they've become.
*** When asked if he's Cassandra's family by the neurosurgeon she's been consulting with, Jenkins says that he is--and clearly means it.
*** At the end of the episode, Eve explicitly tells her that she's with family.
* "And the Fatal Separation:" The bond between Jacob and the Monkey King is incredibly sweet all around. Particularly when you remember how Jacob's biological father treated him.
** Remember how Jenkins said in the last episode that he loved another? Turns out that person is ''Charlene.''
** Her goodbye speech to the others, including telling Flynn that he is the finest Librarian she has ever known.
* "The Wrath of Chaos:"
** Jenkins shouting out for Eve in concern during the rockfall, showing that he's forgiven her.
** Flynn and Jenkins both taking the time to drag the head of DOSA out of the way before confronting Apep, even though they have every right to be furious at her.
** Before sacrificing himself, Flynn tells Eve that he doesn't feel scared, he feels grateful to her and to the Library for bringing him so much joy.
** How did the Librarians get all the artifacts back from DOSA? Simply trusting in the latter's good nature and gratitude.
** The episode ends with everything as it should be: all the artifacts restored to the Library; Eve and Flynn with their arms around each other; Jacob, Cassandra, and Ezekiel getting ready for another adventure; Jenkins making tea. After so much trouble and danger, the family is content again.

!!Season 4
* There's a bit of Fridge Heartwarming in "And the Bleeding Crown:" Darrington Dare all but states that Jenkins was aware of the civil war caused by the Librarians of the fifth century fracturing (which makes sense, since he almost certainly would've joined the Library during the Dark Ages). And yet, back in Season One, he ''never'' said anything to either Flynn or Eve, implying that very early on, it was clear to him that these three Librarians would not make the mistakes of their predecessors.
* The ghosts revealing what really happened during the battle in the Civil War in "And a Town Called Feud": [[spoiler:The brothers on opposite sides of the war, long believed to have shot each other, put down their guns and reconciled before being killed by stray cannon fire. What brought it on? The Union brother's son died after wandering onto the battlefield, and the Confederate brother fell in love with a Black woman. The brothers pass on with their loved ones, and while the mayor is looking forward to profiting off this development, at least she's pushing the happy truth.]]
* "And Some Dude Named Jeff"
** Jenkins playing TableTopGame/DungeonsAndDragons with Jeff and his friends. It's such a sweet moment, highlighting how far he's come.
** Jenkins almost immediately forgiving Jeff, despite his reckless and frankly moronic actions.
* "And the Trial of the One":
** Jenkins giving Eve a gigantic bear hug towards the end, beaming from ear to ear.
** Although it's tragic, every one of the Librarians immediately quitting the Library when it kills Jenkins, and Eve doesn't utter a word of protest. It shows how very dear to all of them he is.
** It's blink-and-you-miss-it, but Jake touches a kiss to the container holding Jenkins' ashes.
* "And the Echoes of Memory"
** Eve and Flynn subconsciously remember each other almost immediately. Nicole may have wiped their minds, but she can't reach their hearts and souls.
** The Librarians reconstituting the Library from their memories.
