Treasure Island is an adventure novel written by Creator/RobertLouisStevenson, which created and popularized many iconic tropes about pirates in fiction. It has been adapted many times in various mediums, as listed below.

!!Treasure Island and its many adaptations include:

* Literature/TreasureIsland (1881) - The original novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.

* (1920) - A silent film that is now lost.
* (1934) - Directed by Victor Fleming. Starred Jackie Cooper as Jim, Creator/WallaceBeery as Long John Silver, and Creator/LionelBarrymore as Billy Bones.
* (1937) - A weird Soviet-Russian version.Irish rebels led by Livesey find a treasure map and trick moneylender Trelawney into organizing an expedition. He hires pirates. Hawkins is a young woman (in love with Livesey), who dresses as a boy to join the expedition. In the end Trelawney and pirates are left on the island. The rebels needed the money to buy weapons.
* (1971) - The second Soviet-Russian adaptation, this time not so weird.
* (1972) - Starring Creator/OrsonWelles as Long John Silver.
* (1973) - an animated movie produced by , featuring Richard Dawson (from Series/HogansHeroes and Series/FamilyFeud) as both Long John Silver and Captain Smollett.
* Animation/PlanetataNaSakrovishtata (1982) - A Bulgarian animated film directed by Rumen Petkov, which transferred the story into an outer-space setting twenty years before Disney.
* (1988) - A classic Soviet half-animation half-live action musical film. Republished without live-action intermissions as The Return to Treasure Island (1992).
* (1990) - a TV movie, with Creator/CharltonHeston as Silver, Creator/ChristianBale as Jim, Creator/ChristopherLee as Blind Pew, Creator/OliverReed as Billy Bones, Creator/JulianGlover as Dr. Livesey, Creator/PetePostlethwaite as George Merry and Creator/JamesCosmo as Redruth.
* (1999) - Starring Creator/JackPalance as Long John Silver.
* (2006) - A comedic take on the story, released by one and only Creator/TheAsylum.
* Film/France 2007 (2007) - A French comedy film starring Creator/GerardJugnot.
* Film/Germany 2007 (2007) - A German TV two-part film, starring former Series/InspectorRex star Tobias Moretti as Long John Silver, comedian Christian Tramitz as Squire Trelawney and Jürgen Vogel as Israel Hands. A lot DarkerAndEdgier.

* (1966) - A French-West German television series starring Ivor Dean as John Silver. It was shown in four instalments (on the four Advent Sundays) in West Germany and in thirteen episodes in France. The 360 minutes of the series were cut to 84 for an unsuccessful US cinematic release in 1970. Ivor Dean wrote a script for a sequel series with Robert S. Baker, but that came to naught because he died in 1974. The script was dug up again in 1986 (see below).
* (1977) - A BBC TV series that includes Creator/PatrickTroughton as Israel Hands and David Collings (Silver from Series/SapphireAndSteel) as Blind Pew.
* (1978) - A 26-episode Japanese anime series, produced by Creator/TMSEntertainment and directed by Creator/OsamuDezaki.
* (1983) - A Soviet-Russian three-part miniseries that also incorporates elements from Stevenson's The Merry Men short story collection in its portrayal of the pirates' backstory. Oleg Borisov as John Silver gives a deliciously chilling performance that changes his personality from a flamboyant LovableRogue to a stone-cold psychopath hiding behing a facade of a dorky middle-aged man.
* (1987) also named Pianeta Del Tesoro - Treasure Planet - A 5-episode German and Italian collaboration series, produced by Creator/and directed by Antonio Margheriti and set in 2300.
* WesternAnimation/TheLegendsOfTreasureIsland (1993) - UK FunnyAnimal InNameOnly animated series with Jim as a puppy (voiced by Dawn French) and Silver as a fox (voiced by Creator/RichardEGrant). Many will recognise the cast members, especially Creator/HughLaurie playing Squire Trelawney as a member of the George family.
* Search For Treasure Island (1998) - Australian series by Grundy Television in which stepsiblings Mark and Jacqui Raymond (plus their mother Sally) travel to the namesake island in search of their lost father, Paul. Notable for, among other things:
** Introducing modern technology-particularly the internet-into the franchise.
** Having the titular treasure reduced to a secondary goal at best (As stated, the kids top priority is finding their dad and getting out quick-silver, gold and/or jewels be damned!)
** Exploring the concept of Treasure Island as an inhabited landscape populated by several feuding tribes (most being the descendants of previous castaways). This in turn allows for the addition of many original characters-including a new BigBad known only as Dante. Heck, Hawkins and Silver don't even show up until season 2!
* (2012) - Sky 1 two part MiniSeries, starring an AllStarCast including Creator/EddieIzzard and Creator/ElijahWood. Slightly DarkerAndEdgier.
* Series/BlackSails (2014-2017) - A prequel series on , notably featuring Captain Flint and a young John Silver as its protagonists.
* (2016) - A CGI animated Italian series co-produced by Mondo TV and Rai Fiction.

* WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfRonaldMcDonaldMcTreasureIsland (1990) - A DirectToVideo animated special produced by Creator/DicEntertainment and animated by Creator/StudioKorumi. Featuring the characters of UsefulNotes/McDonalds own Advertising/Mcdonaldland gang being sucked into a PortalBook version of the novel. Notably predates the more well-known WesternAnimation/TheWackyAdventuresOfRonaldMcDonald by 8 years.
* ComicBook/LongJohnSilver (2007-2013) - A French comic mini-series by Xavier Dorison, which takes place 20 years after Treasure Island. An English noblewoman convinces Silver to join her in a plan to seize control of her insane husband's expedition to find a lost city of gold in South America. It was released by Dargaud in French and Cinebook in English.
* AudioPlay/TreasureIsland (2013) - An AudioAdaptation of the story by Big Finish productions, starring Creator/TomBaker as Long John Silver.
* (2014) - A stage adaptation produced by the National Theatre, starring Creator/ArthurDarvill as Long John Silver.
----
!!'s Treasure Island adaptations (including the Treasure Planet franchise):

* (1950) - 's first fully non-animated film. Starring Creator/RobertNewton as Long John Silver and Creator/BobbyDriscoll as Jim Hawkins. UrExample Introduced the stereotypical 17th-18th Century English "pirate accent".
* Film/LongJohnSilver (1954) - sequel to the above with Creator/RobertNewton returning as Long John Silver, though not produced by Disney.
* Film/MuppetTreasureIsland (1996) - Starring Creator/TimCurry as Long John Silver, and most of the roles (sans Jim Hawkins) filled by, of course, Franchise/TheMuppets.
* WesternAnimation/TreasurePlanet (2002) - Disney's animated version ...IN SPACE! (Surprisingly good and faithful to the source considering the SpaceOpera setting.)

* Series/TheAdventuresOfLongJohnSilver (1954) - A sequel series to Film/LongJohnSilver with Creator/RobertNewton returning once again as Long John Silver. Ran for 25 episodes until Newton's passing. Not produced by Disney.
* Series/ReturnToTreasureIsland (1986) - A ten-part Disney television series based on the aforementioned script by Ivor Dean. Set ten years after the events of the novel, it starred Creator/BrianBlessed as Long John Silver.

* VideoGame/TreasurePlanetBattleAtProcyon (2002) - Sequel to the above game/movie.
