''Red Faction: Origins'' is a LiveActionAdaptation to the ''VideoGame/RedFaction'' series, it aired on Creator/{{Syfy}} on June 4, 2011. The movie bridges the gap between ''Guerrilla'' and ''Armageddon'', with Creator/RobertPatrick as Alec Mason; Creator/BrianJSmith portrays Alec's son Jake Mason, the main protagonist.

Origins' plot concerns Jake tracking down the mysterious White Faction, who Jake believes are responsible for killing his mother, and kidnapping his sister.

!!''Red Faction: Origins'' provides examples of:

* BatmanGambit: Jake pulls the pin from a singularity bomb that a couple of Marauders are carrying, and then tosses the pin back so they can disarm it. He does this because he knows that [[IOweYouMyLife Marauders will not kill anyone]] [[LoopholeAbuse who save their lives]].
* BigBad: Stroller, who is the leader of the White Faction, the one who abducted Lyla and attempting to orchestrate a conflict between the Red Faction and the Marauders.
* BigBrotherInstinct: The movies whole plot is pretty much driven by Jake's need to find and rescue his sister, with everyone believing her to be dead.
* ButtMonkey: Downplayed but Tess often finds herself at the receiving end of a lot of Jake's jokes and a few awkward situations; notably having to flash a guard to distract him (which fails, because the guard was female).
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** [[spoiler: Stroller's immediate response to finding out Lyra learnt the truth of her past it to attempt to murder her himself, decrying her as a traitor. Keep in mind he has no reason to know if Lyra is helping her family and Lyra herself has only just discovered they where still alive.]]
** [[spoiler: Likewise Adam Hale's response to Lyra leaving him for her family is an attempt to destroy the atmosphere of Mars by destroying the Terraformer. You'd think this is just a spur of the moment thing, but ''Armageddon'' shows that he's still trying to do this ''twenty years later''.]]
* DragonAscendant: [[spoiler: Adam Hale immediately takes control of the White Faction following Stroller's death. A rather ZigZagged example as while Hale is one of the main antagonists of ''Armageddon'', he the leader of a cult devoted to him as opposed to the White Faction.]]
* FalseFlagOperation: Part of the White Faction's MO involves starting terrorist attacks on both the Red Faction and Marauders, framing the other side in order to start a war.
* HappyEndingOverride: This film is set after the events of ''Guerilla'', in which Alec Mason and his LoveInterest Samanya becomes heroes of the Martian Revolution, bring peace between the Red Faction and the Marauders and over throw the dictatorship of the EDF. Years before the film however, remnants of the EDF called the White Faction emerge, kill Samanya, and are bringing tensions between the Red Faction and the Marauders.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Moments after being reunited with his daughter, Alec has them taken to safety before he crashes his shuttle into the White Faction dreadnought on account of the missile launcher being destroyed, costing him his own life.]]
* HighHeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Lyra Mason, who was raised and groomed into being a White Faction soldier since she was a child, is the only one to turn against the White Faction when she's reunited with her family. She offers Adam a chance too but he refuses.]]
* InvasionOfTheBabySnatchers: The White Faction kidnapped Jake's sister prior to the series. [[spoiler:It's later revealed that many more were kidnapped. The White Faction needed the children to maintain acceptable genetic diversity once they took over again.]]
* JadedWashout: Alec Mason, hero of the second Martian Revolution and player character of ''Guerilla'', has become this following the loss of his wife and daughter, frequently drowning his sorrows and shows that his glory days are behind him. [[spoiler: He gets better though when Jake goes off against the White Faction and he learns Lyra is indeed alive.]]
* TheLostLenore: Samanya, Alec's wife and mother of his children has been killed by the White Faction well before the events of the movie. As for a family example, Lyra Mason is this, having been abducted by White Faction and thought dead for years. Both Jake and especially Alec take these losses pretty hard.
* MamaBear: Samanya went out fighting off White Faction soldiers, even stabbing out Stroller's eye. While Jake manages to escape, she is unable to save Lyra from being abducted.
* PilotMovie: Was developed with this in mind, however with Creator/{{THQ}}'s bankruptcy it's very unlikely that anything will ever come of it.
* RedemptionRejection: [[spoiler: When Lyra leaves the White Faction for her family, she offers her friend and lover Adam Hale the same chance to leave the White Faction. Hale refuses and immediately takes control and begins to launch and attack of his own.]]
* TheRemnant: [[spoiler:White Faction is a leftover group of the EDF in hiding.]]
* TokenMinority: Played with in regards to Tess. She isn't the only dark skinned character in the film, however she is Earth born making her a minority among the Red Faction. She suspects this is the reason she doesn't get that much respect among her peers.
* VillainousBreakdown: And both of them border onto StupidEvil.
** [[spoiler: Stroller finds out Jake Mason and his friends are aboard the Dreadnought around the same time that Lyra learns the truth of her past. His immediate response is for him to personally try to kill Lyra alone without any backup, by strangling her and viciously calling her a traitor. This gets him killed by both Jake and Lyra for his trouble.]]
** [[spoiler: Likewise, Adam Hale has one when Lyra actually leaves him, he takes control of the White Faction and demands that they destroy the Teraformer keeping Mars atmosphere stable. He takes one of his men at gunpoint for hesitating. While you could make the argument that he was overwhelmed by the stress of the situation and that this was a spur of the moment, keep in mind at the time of the fourth game he is ''still'' trying to destroy the Teraformer twenty years later.]]
* VitriolicBestFriends: Tess is Jake's sidekick and ImpliedLoveInterest throughout the movie. That said they spend a lot of time bickering, and Jake especially likes to show his affection by joking around and pestering her.
* WeCanRuleTogether
** Adam Hale's dream for the White Faction was for him to become the leader and ultimate ruler of Mars with Lyra by his side. He brings this up to Lyra as [[spoiler: she prepares to leave with her family.]]
** [[spoiler: Lyra herself gives Adam a heroic inversion, offering Adam a chance for redemption so that they can leave the White Faction together and continue their relationship. Adam refuses and goes on to take White Faction for himself.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: Tess chews Jake out for leaving her behind on his quest to go save Lyra, before revealing that she gathered information on White Faction soldiers and discovered that they where uncovering a nuclear reactor.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Pretty much Stroller's first response to [[spoiler: Lyra not killing Jake, and suspecting that they are working together is for him to personally try to strangle her to death.]]
