!Tropes for the film:
* BaitTheDog: The mercenaries go out of their way to disable the treasury guards with non-lethal tactics during the robbery, but (with the exceptions of Sasha and Frears) proceed to needlessly abuse their prisoners and try to ruthlessly kill Will, Breeze, and Casey for the rest of the movie.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Inverted. Will becomes the RightManInTheWrongPlace because he cannot bear to leave his big brother Breeze, who he’s been estranged with for years, behind on the town that is going to get hit by the hurricane.
* BigDisasterPlot: A category five hurricane is threatening the town the characters live in and what the agents are using as a cover for their robbery.
* BottomlessMagazines: Averted. Casey runs out of ammo fairly early on, and finding new loaded weapons remains an ongoing concern throughout the rest of the film.
* CellphonesAreUseless: The hurricane wrecks all conventional cell phone towers early on, the satellite phone antenna of the Dominator gets shot up in the very first chase it's involved in, and the heroes are forced to smash the other satellite rig on the town (which is connected to the Federal reserve) to slow down the villains' plan to hack the safe's lock.
* TheCracker: Frears was brought along with the purpose of hacking into the vault's digital lock. His role ends when the heroes destroy the reserve's communications rig, which means he cannot contact his remote computers to brite-force the lock within any acceptable amount of time for the heist to be pulled off, forcing the bad guys back into trying to find Casey and the tablet that opens the safe.
* ContinuousDecompression: A variant. Will and Casey's plan to shatter the mall skylight and cause the differing air pressure of the hurricane to suck the bad guys out of the mall works, but the flow of air goes on for a ''long'' time, as if all the air in the mall is sucked out.
* CoolCar: The "Dominator", Will's storm chasing vehicle, is a heavily armored SUV.
* DieHardOnAnX: Die Hard in the middle of an F-5 hurricane.
* DirtyCop: The treasury agents planning on robbing a bank during the hurricane.
* DisappearedDad: Will and Breeze's father was killed at the beginning of the film during Hurricane Andrew.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Hacker couple Sasha and Frears can't help themselves from fooling around during the getaway, and don't notice Breeze and Will climbing onto their truck.
* DwindlingParty: Every mercenary involved in the heist is killed by either the heroes or the brute forces of the hurricane.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Sasha and Frears are horrified by Connor's threat to kill a federal agent by feeding him into a money shredder.
* LawmanGoneBad: Sheriff Dixon's deputies are initially honest cops working to provide order during the hurricane. But once they get offered a cut of the money (totaling $600 million, mind) they quickly and remorselessly join Connor's gang.
* MinoredInAssKicking: Will is a Doctor in meteorology stuck playing John [=McClane=]. His knowledge of how hurricanes work helps him set an ambush that kills most of the mercenaries and dirty cops.
* NobodyPoops: Inverted. One of the [[ActionFilmQuietDramaScene major conversations between Will and Casey]] happens while they stop for a bathroom break.
* PasswordSlotMachine: The computer program Frears runs to get into the safe has this representation on the screen, as well as a very precise status bar.
* ThePreciousPreciousCar: The "Dominator" gets steadily damaged as the film goes on and, while Will and [[ContrivedCoincidence the vicissitudes of fate]] prevent Casey's plan of using the Dominator as a MolotovTruck for StormingTheCastle, the car is washed away by a flash flood.
* RightUnderTheirNoses: The bad guys spend the whole film chasing Casey because she has the tablet computer that is the federal reserve vault's key. Casey left the tablet back at the reserve, hidden inside a pile of shredded dollar bill shavings.
* SaveTheVillain: Will and Casey unsuccessfully try to rescue Sasha and Frears from the hurricane.
* SiblingsInCrime: Two of the men robbing the treasury facility are brothers, and when one of them is killed, the other goes on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* SickeninglySweethearts: Sasha and Frears aren't shy on public displays of affection or pausing to have sex in the middle of the robbery.
