''To Be a (Miraculous) Master'' ([[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12073409/1/To-Be-a-Miraculous-Master FFN]], [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/14736653/chapters/34066523 AO3]]), written by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/8090985/Zor-the-Reaper Zor the Reaper]], is an ongoing crossover fanfic between ''WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug'' and ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'', initially published on [[Website/FanfictionDotNet Fanfiction.Net]].

It is treated more as a FusionFic in which the entire cast from Miraculous Ladybug is placed in the world of Pokémon. More specifically, the setting is centered upon the Kalos region, given that [[FantasyCounterpartCulture it is inspired by France]]. The story mainly focuses on Marinette Dupain-Cheng, as well as her friends and classmates recognizable from the main series, as they graduate out of an advanced school for Pokémon Trainers and engage in their respective journeys throughout Kalos to learn more about Pokémon and the world around them.

Of course, given that everything from Miraculous Ladybug is imported into the Pokémon world, that includes a familiar BigBad now in charge of his own [[NebulousEvilOrganization criminal organization]] and seeking the powers of creation and destruction through [[OlympusMons Xerneas and Yveltal]].

There's more at stake than preparing to [[ToBeAMaster take on the Pokémon League and challenge the Elite Four]] for our heroes.

[[folder:Tropes A-H]]
* AcademyOfAdventure: Lumiose Trainer Academy, where the story first begins, though the characters are already graduating come first chapter without the excessive ceremonial pomp. This Trainer School is sponsored by the Pokémon League for aspiring Trainers in Kalos wanting additional knowledge, hands-on application, and education on training Pokémon after turning ten and graduating from the basic Pokémon Trainer School for further preparation for their [[ComingOfAgeStory future journeys]]. It comes at a cost of four years, meaning the graduates are around fourteen to fifteen years of age upon officially starting their journeys.
* AccidentalTruth: After Adrien shows the others his newly acquired Cubone from Glittering Cave, Nino teasingly asked on whether Adrien used his [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe "natural charms"]] to sway Cubone to his side without the need of battling it which Adrien reasoned that they had a common enemy and Cubone only helped them out. Cubone on the other hand tried to [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial look innocently away]].
* AdaptationSpeciesChange: Justified given the new setting:
** Kwamis are changed to normal Pokemon that use their canonical names as nicknames.
** Jagged Stone's pet crocodile Fang is a Krookodile here.
* AdaptationalWimp: Again, justified given the setting change:
** In their home series, Ladybug, Chat Noir and the other heroes have SuperStrength and [[InASingleBound Super Agility]], plus a couple magic powers unique to each of them. Here, they're downgraded to {{Badass Normal}}s who mostly rely on their Pokemon to do the fighting.
** Kwamis are incredibly ancient, god-like beings. Here, they're changed to normal Pokemon.
* AdultsAreUseless:
** Subverted. Nadja Chamack, who is the current Lumiose Gym Leader on top of being a reporter, attempts to engage [[spoiler: a brainwashed Ivan and his Rhyhorn]] once Team Akuma decided to make a public attack on Geosenge Town in Chapter 24. She doesn't fare well until [[BigDamnHeroes Marinette, under her hero persona, intervenes]].
** Subverted once again with Roger [[spoiler: as he gives Lady Ledian a ride to the Kalos Power Plant on his swift Gogoat in Chapter 32 and even handles the [[{{Mook}} Team Akuma Grunts]] while Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir take care of a recently brainwashed Mr. Ramier and Mega Pidgeot]].
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter:
** Many, especially Marinette, see Adrien as this due to him being TheAce. It is through her desire to be close to him that Marinette aspires to be as strong as him one day.
** Lila is set up to be a more formidable rival for Marinette than Chloé, having traveled around longer and competed in a couple of League Conferences up to the present day. Though how well she actually did in the Conferences remains unanswered. [[spoiler: In Chapter 50 it's revealed that at the Johto Silver Conference, she only made the Top 128. After that, she managed to reach the Top 64 of the Hoenn Ever Grande Conference.]]
* AmusingInjuries:
** Marinette is sometimes subjected to these, from [[TheKlutz tripping over her own feet]] to [[RunningGag being subjected to]] HarmlessElectrocution.
** Averted with Liepard Noir [[spoiler:when he received a minor head injury against Mr. Pidgeot. [[AngerBornOfWorry Lady Ledian tells him to be more careful]]]].
* AngerBornOfWorry:
** When Liepard Noir and his Meowstic protect both Lady Ledian and Kirlia respectively from [[spoiler: Mr. Pidgeot and his Mega Pidgeot]] in Chapter 33, both get blown back by the enemy's attack, getting hurt in the process. While Liepard Noir brushes off the head injury as minor, Lady Ledian scolds him for endangering himself like that recklessly for her sake since she can defend herself.
** Likewise, [[IntrepidReporter Alya]] goes to the Kalos Power Plant after hearing of Team Akuma attacking the place with a new Bond Hybrid, knowing full well that she's putting herself in danger for getting the scoop. She knows if Marinette hears of what she did, her best friend would give her an earful. [[DramaticIrony Lady Ledian does, in fact, do that once she catches Alya]].
** The reason why Alix still hasn't forgiven Marinette in Chapter 49 for ditching her during Team Akuma's rampage on Lumiose City back in Chapter 39. Although Marinette had a [[SecretIdentity good reason for it]], to Alix, she didn't know where her classmate ran off to in the middle of a terrorist attack and it was after both promised Marinette's father to look after each other. [[spoiler:It is only after the fiasco with the wild Rotom in Chapter 49 and after Marinette kept her promise to rejoin her and Alya with Max unharmed does Alix forgive Marinette]].
* ArcWords: “Believe in yourself, just like your friends do.” This is Adrien’s advice to Marinette, revealed in a flashback in Chapter 1, and has been the recurring {{Aesop}} of the story.
* AttackAttackAttack: Team Akuma's plan against Lumiose City in Chapter 39 to lure out Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir. It's unique that, unlike previous appearances, they're not relying on Bond Hybrids. [[spoiler: It is hinted that even Poison Moth might not be aware of this plan as it was organized by his underlings instead. Confirmed in Chapter 42, in which according to Poison Moth, the Admins that sanctioned the attack without his permission are facing punishment, [[NothingIsScarier though there is no indication on the type of fate that befell them]]]].
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Roger Raincomprix is the Coumarine City Gym Leader AND the Lieutenant of the Kalos Police Force.
* BabysittingEpisode: In Chapter 36, Marinette babysits Manon with Alya and Adrien while they help her prepare for her upcoming Gym Battle against Nadja.
* BadGuyBar: [[spoiler: [[MeaningfulName Dustox Café]], as the counterpart to the Lysandre Café, first revealed at the end of Chapter 37. It is implied that this was how Team Akuma Grunts were able to sneak into Lumiose City from the inside for their citywide attack in Chapter 39]].
* TheBadGuyWins: At the end of Chapter 52, [[spoiler: Poison Moth has isolated Yveltal's energy signature from the Key Stone wavelength his agents obtained from Liepard Noir. It'll make finding Yveltal easier with Team Akuma's technology. The hunt for the Destruction Pokémon is now on]].
* BadassAdorable: Some of the character's Pokémon are cute as well as strong:
** A majority of Marinette's team are this but special mention goes to Sewaddle/Swadloon and Togepi. [[spoiler: Togepi retains her cuteness when she evolves into Togetic]].
** Adrien's Litleo is this, [[spoiler: prior to having evolved into [[KingOfBeasts Pyroar]] before Chapter 32]].
* BaitAndSwitch:
++ Near the end of Chapter 50, after Adrien has a harsh reprimanding from his father for not following his training schedule, the scene cuts to a familiar Venomoth observing the boy and Poison Moth going through his usual monologue before he chooses his next Bond Hybrid... [[spoiler: turns out Poison Moth, or rather, Gabriel, is just checking up on Adrien's Gym progress and whereabouts]].
** Subverted in Chapter 54. [[spoiler: The ending of Chapter 53 made it look like the challenger that caught up to Adrien was Kagami as she made a brief appearance holding the door of the Anistar Café for Marinette and Alya. The challenger turns out to be Wayhem in the following chapter, but Kagami eventually joins in upon crossing paths with Adrien]].
* BatmanGambit:
** When Marinette faces Vincent's Vivillon in her first Gym battle with Tikki, [[spoiler: she hoped that his Vivillon would use Infestation, a bug attack move on Tikki so that it would activate Tikki's Special Ability Rattled which would enhance her speed when attacked by a bug or ghost move. The gambit paid off and ensured Marinette's victory]]. Even Vincent was impressed by this gambit.
** In Chapter 16 when battling against Theo's Tyrunt and [[spoiler: Marinette's Ralts just evolved to Kirlia]], Marinette lured Tyrunt close enough [[spoiler: so that Kirlia can use her new move [[KissOfDeath Draining Kiss]] on him]]. It worked.
** After Marinette's Togepi inflicted Jalil's Mega Lucario with Sweet Kiss, rendering his ace Pokémon confused, he allowed Tikki to attack his Mega Lucario [[spoiler: so that it would snap him out of his confused state without harming himself further and Tikki unwittingly left an opening for Mega Lucario to retaliate]].
** Marinette returned the favor after Mega Lucario covered the field in dust clouds and use his [[AuraVision aura senses]] to detect Tikki [[spoiler:now an evolved Ledian]]. Marinette [[spoiler:counted on this and had Tikki use Silver Wind to clear the dust when Mega Lucario was in a vulnerable position, finishing him off]].
** [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] in the Gym battle against Nadja in Chapter 37, [[spoiler: in which Nadja, who airs and records all of her Gym battles for future challengers to watch, expects them to watch the latest battles for her most recent battle style, only to counter Trainers who were expecting past strategies with new ones they are unprepared against. Marinette decides not to watch her last recorded battle, which was with Adrien, the challenger before her, and [[CombatPragmatist makes herself unpredictable]] while only preparing a defense against Electric attacks]].
* BeachEpisode: Chapter 29. Doubles as a sort-of date episode between Marinette and Adrien, courtesy of [[ShipperOnDeck Alya]].
* BearHug: Marinette gives one to Adrien while [[ItMakesSenseInContext riding a Rhyhorn with him]] when he brings up guilt over their bad first meeting over Chloé’s prank back in Lumiose Academy.
* BearerOfBadNews: When the King's beloved Floette snuck off to finally join the war after being inspired by the Stripling's determination, the King and the Stripling made haste and tried to reach them in time. Before they can move, however, a ninja with a Ninjask arrives with news. The ninja doesn't take pride in what he has to deliver to the king as he gives him an item: [[spoiler: a tiny box containing the remains of Floette's flower]].
* BigBad: Team Akuma, led by a man calling himself Poison Moth, a Venomoth-themed villain. [[spoiler: Poison Moth is indeed revealed to be Gabriel Agreste in Chapter 50]].
* BigBrotherInstinct: In this portrayal, Luka cares very much for his younger sister [[ShrinkingViolet Juleka]] and requests Marinette and Alya to watch over her [[spoiler:after the Gym battle in Chapter 46]] in his stead due to his new duties as [[spoiler:Laverre Gym Leader]].
* BigDamnHeroes:
** In Chapter 20, when the female Grunt of Team Akuma ordered her Croagunk to use Earthquake, which would risk caving in Adrien and Alya, [[spoiler:the Cubone who guided the two in Glittering Cave]] knocks the Croagunk out before it could land.
** When Marinette dons her Lady Ledian persona for the first time, she comes to Nadja and Alya's aid just in time against [[spoiler: the brainwashed Ivan and his Rhyhorn]].
** Adrien, as Liepard Noir, pulls this at the end of Chapter 24 as Lady Ledian was fighting a couple of Akuma Grunts [[spoiler: and Ivan]] by herself. This is their debut after all.
** [[spoiler: Mylène and her Shuppet]] manages to distract [[spoiler: the brainwashed Ivan and Rhyhorn]], allowing an opening for both Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir to [[spoiler: separate the brainwashed trainer from his Pokémon]]. By that point, this is the [[RuleOfThree third time]] someone has initiated a surprise rescue.
** In Chapter 33, Liepard Noir and Alya managed to distract [[spoiler: Mr. Pidgeot and his Mega Pidgeot long enough for Lady Ledian to rally up all the [[ShockAndAwe Power Plant workers]] to help them give them double the electrical power needed to defeat Mega Pidgeot]].
** A number of rescues took place in Chapter 39 [[spoiler: during Team Akuma's [[AttackAttackAttack assault]] on Lumiose City]].
*** [[spoiler: Tom and his Sceptile]] come to Marinette and Alix's aid under the guise of "Sceptile Mask." Marinette wasn't fooled though.
*** Liepard Noir saves the two girls on his Pyroar, [[UnwantedAssistance even though it wasn't really necessary]].
*** [[spoiler: A Vespiquen]] saves Sabrina when she was cornered by an Akuma Grunt's Sneasel.
*** Alya is aided by [[spoiler: the Fennekin from Professor Damocles's lab]], who then takes out five of Team Akuma's Pokémon [[spoiler: and promptly evolves into Braixen from her subsequent victories]].
** In Chapter 49, [[spoiler: while it probably did it out of its own [[ItAmusedMe amusement]], the [[WildCard wild Rotom]] that Alya eventually captures saves the group from several punkish Trainers by electrocuting them before they could send out their Pokémon]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: The author notes that several Pokémon share similarities with their respective trainers.
** Marinette and her Ralts/Kirlia, who is described to represent Marinette's growth as a character. When Ralts evolved into Kirlia, she soon develops feelings for Adrien's Kirlia and acts the way Marinette does around Adrien. She even acts similar to Lady Ledian around him, [[spoiler: reflected strongly when she evolved into Gardevoir]].
** Adrien and his own Ralts/Kirlia. Like with Marinette's, he represents Adrien's own growth. He has a similar taste in humor as his trainer. Unlike Adrien however, he seems to be more aware of Marinette's Kirlia's feelings for him to an extent. He even acts similar to Liepard Noir when around his childhood friend, [[spoiler: which became more prominent when he evolved into Gallade]].
** Chloé and her Snivy/Servine. She is as [[{{Jerkass}} snooty and haughty]] as her trainer and they get along well. [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] later when she evolved in Servine and has [[TookALevelInJerkass become so arrogant]] that she stops listening to her trainer's orders.
* BothSidesHaveAPoint: In Chapter 55, [[spoiler: During Marinette's rematch against Chloé with Tikki and Pollen, Chloé reveals Pollen's natural ability as a Vespiquen to command and control male Combees to aid their queen. Marinette points out it's no different from brainwashing, while Chloé argues that's just the natural order within the Vespiquen and Combee's society, different from humans']].
* BrickJoke:
** In Chapter 16, Alya mused the possibility of waking up [[HeavySleeper Marinette]] by telling her [[MrFanservice Adrien]] was [[WalkingShirtlessScene training without a shirt on]]. At the beginning of the next chapter, she does exactly that and it ''works''.
** In Chapter 49, Alix brings up Marinette ditching her during the Team Akuma attack in Chapter 39 since she doesn't know that Marinette had to change into Lady Ledian. Nonetheless, Alix refuses to let the incident go despite [[ApologisesALot Marinette's constant apologies]] [[spoiler: until after their adventure in the Lost Hotel as [[IGaveMyWord she gave her word]] to forgive her with Marinette and Max reuniting with her and Alya unharmed]].
** In Chapter 54, [[spoiler: Wayhem]] mentions having sat in for Adrien's exhibition battle against his father back in Chapter 43 and being subjected to [[TranquilFury Marinette's Gardevoir's Psychic]] when opinions over the battle got out of hand. He remarked that girl (Marinette) was scary.
* CallBack:
** Chapter 19 has Marinette and her friends (Adrien, Alya, and Nino) being chased down by a horde of frenzy Woobats in Glittering Cave [[spoiler:whom were rudely awoken by a pair of Team Akuma grunts]]. Marinette experiences deja vu in Chapter 57 when fleeing from a horde of frenzy Noibats that she accidentally awoken with Tiki while venturing Terminus Cave [[spoiler: so she can meet Master Fu]].
* TheCameo: [[spoiler:The performer who wins the Couriway Town Showcase]] is a black-haired girl with a Scraggy and a Croagunk named Mary. The author stated that it's a reference to Marnie (one of the rivals in ''Pokemon Sword and Shield'') whose Japanese name is Mary and has a Scraggy/Scrafty and a Croagunk/Toxicroak as part of her team.
* CelebrityLie: Averted with Lila, who is a minor celebrity herself [[BitchInSheepsClothing but still not as nice as she lets on]]. Sort of plays it straight in Chapter 47 by claiming she's close to Lady Ledian despite the fact there's no onscreen interaction between them beforehand, nor was it really mentioned that they knew each other. They do technically know each other but as Marinette and Lila.
* CerebusSyndrome: As with both series, it starts off as a crossover story about Marinette and Adrien going off on their Pokémon journey along with their classmates after they've graduated Lumiose City Academy, exploring the Kalos region and its rich history and meeting new people along the way. Things slowly change with the appearance of Team Akuma and bits of Kalos' dark history soon unravel. [[spoiler: Marinette and Adrien learn the truth about the three-thousand-year-old war from Master Fu. Specifically, how Fu was alive during the war and witnessed his king built a machine that's the equivalent to a nuke and set it off, destroying virtually everything in order to end the war]].
* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction: How Marinette and Adrien are able to slip into their heroic personas and back within a minute. For Marinette, as a fashion designer, she knows the trick to slip out from one outfit within one half of a minute and into a new outfit the remaining half. For Adrien, he worked as his father's model before embarking on his journey, meaning he also knows the quick clothes-changing trick.
* CharacterDevelopment: Many of the characters are bound to receive this one way or another.
** As TheProtagonist, Marinette receives a ton of focus. Her issues in confidence and self-esteem stem from her overburdening herself by trying to [[ThePerfectionist live up to high expectations, even though no one else is putting heavy expectations on her]]. Whether it’s to not be seen as TheKlutz or to impress Adrien is unknown, but with the many friends she gained from her classmates and her own Pokémon, Marinette is becoming more self-confident the more she [[ArcWords believes in herself]]. Of course, there is still the matter of living up to Lady Ledian as herself, but she’s getting there slowly but surely.
** As the {{Deuteragonist}} and {{Friendly Rival|ry}}, Adrien is not under the spotlight as much, but with his given background as the son of the current Kalos Champion and living in his shadow as a result, it is expected that he should grow to become his own person instead of following what his father wants. It will be difficult to get [[WellDoneSonGuy any sort of approval]] from [[ParentalNeglect Gabriel]].
** After being eliminated early on in the Coumarine Showcase, Juleka is left to wonder what more she needs to do once she is noticed. Her problem as TheQuietOne is that because she never has a lot of attention placed on her, she is confused on [[AndThenWhat what to do next]]. Her main goal now is to find out what kind of Kalos Queen she wants to be while competing alongside Rose, [[spoiler:who won the same Showcase]].
** Chloé is [[BreakTheHaughty due for one]] given that she’s lost all her onscreen battles and is dealing with a disobedient starter Pokémon. It is especially important [[spoiler:considering that she is to become a Miraculous hero in season two of the main series]].
*** Her dialogue during her battle with Marinette implies that she has gone through a little off-screen. She points out that she has gone without her lavish lifestyle and walks everywhere. It garners no sympathy from Marinette, who points out that's what trainers are supposed to do anyway, but for someone like [[SpoiledBrat Chloé]], it's a big step.
* ChekhovsGun:
** The seemingly ordinary Key Stones Marinette and Adrien currently have? [[spoiler: They restored Ivan to his normal self, stripping him of Mega Evolution energy experimenting done on him by Team Akuma in Chapter 25.]]
** The burly bodyguard who was with Adrien during the Coumarine Showcase [[spoiler: is also the chauffeur who picks up Alya for her internship in Lumiose City]].
** In Chapter 36, due to being distracted [[spoiler: by Adrien when he lost sight of Manon]], Tikki's Mach Punch dived into the ground and splashed Alya's Electabuzz in dirt, weakening his electricity. [[spoiler: Marinette was the only one who witnessed it and used it as a tactic for her Gym battle against Nadja in the next chapter. It involved having Tikki use Mach Punch to force up dirt to block incoming Electric attacks, as well as throwing dirt on them to weaken their electricity]].
* ChildhoodFriends:
** As usual, Adrien and Chloé.
** Marinette and Adrien's Ralts/Kirlia knew each other back when they were wild Ralts and are still close even after gaining their respective trainers. Potentially becoming [[ChildhoodFriendRomance something more]] after both evolved to Kirlia.
* {{Cliffhanger}}: The author enjoys leaving cliffhangers at the ending of each chapter on a regular basis. Particularly:
** Chapter 2 ends with Adrien about to give his answer to Marinette and Alya on his decision to accompany them (mostly for Marinette) to Santalune City.
** Chapter 10 ends with Marinette finally gathers the courage to properly ask Adrien to be her tag-team partner for the Parfum Palace tournament and awaits his response.
** Chapter 11 ends with Marinette running away from Adrien out of shame and disappointment in herself for being useless during their first tag-team battle together.
** Chapter 17 ends with [[spoiler: the first appearance of Master Fu observing Marinette and Adrien with Wayazz and Zygarde while alluding to an upcoming crisis that will befall the Kalos Region and is in possession of the keystones of Xerneas and Yveltal]].
** Chapter 18 ends with [[spoiler: the two Team Akuma grunts spying on Marinette and her friends before continuing their plans for Glittering Cave]].
** Chapter 19 ends with [[spoiler: Marinette and Nino separated from Adrien and Alya after escaping from a swarm of Woobats caused by Team Akuma and Marinette's Pokémon Egg to start showing signs of hatching]].
** Chapter 20 ends with [[spoiler: Poison Moth using the kidnapped Ivan and his Rhyhorn as his first test subject for his Bond Hybrid experiments]].
** Chapter 21 ends with [[spoiler: Marinette and Adrien receiving the keystones of Xerneas and Yvetal respectively from a mysterious sender (Master Fu)]].
** Chapter 24 ends with [[spoiler: Lady Ledian and Swaddle being saved just in time by Liepard Noir and Meowstic in the heroes debut against Team Akuma and their first Bond Hybrid]].
** Chapter 26 ends with the debut of [[TheRival Lila Rossi]].
** Chapter 27 ends with Lila giving Marinette a warning, revealing her true colors.
** Chapter 29 ends with [[spoiler: Alya revealing to Marinette that she has an internship in the Lumiose Press and that she'll start tomorrow, meaning she'll have to leave her best friend]].
** Chapter 33 ends with [[spoiler: Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir facing Team Akuma in the Power Plant along with their new Bond Hybrid, Mr. Pidgeot]].
** Chapter 37 ends with [[spoiler: several Team Akuma grunts planning an unauthorized attack with Lumiose City to lure out Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir]].
** Chapter 38 ends with [[spoiler: Team Akuma carrying out their onslaught within Lumiose City and Marinette and her friends split into groups to find their parents in the chaos]].
** Chapter 39 ends with [[spoiler: Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir facing against a pair of Team Akuma Admins in a tag-team battle with their Kirlias, with the Psychic-Type Pokémon revealing they knew who the other were]].
** Chapter 40 ends with [[spoiler: Adrien receiving a message from his father that he'll have an exhibition match against his father, the Champion, in two days]].
** Chapter 47 ends with [[spoiler: Marinette witnessing Lila [[ForcefulKiss forcibly kissing]] Adrien]].
** Chapter 50 ends with [[spoiler: shedding a bit of light on Poison Moth's motives and revealing his true identity as none other than the current Kalos Champion, Gabriel Agreste]].
** Chapter 51 ends with [[spoiler: the newly introduced Delphox Rouge coming to the heroic duo's aid]].
** Chapter 52 ends with [[spoiler: Poison Moth locating Yveltal's location after analyzing Liepard Noir's keystone patterns]].
** Chapter 55 takes this up a notch with our two heroes. [[spoiler: Adrien meets Master Fu for the first time and Marinette letting her Togetic decide if she wants to evolve into Togekiss via Shiny Stone after she lost to Chloé's Honchkrow]].
* ClothingDamage: Invoked on a Trainer's shirt in Chapter 36, courtesy of Nino's Maractus's Spiky Shield [[spoiler: when he attempts to sneak away and challenge Adrien]]. It was [[MyFavoriteShirt his favorite shirt]] too, [[spoiler: but he does nothing about it aside from complaining]].
* ComingOfAgeStory: The Pokémon journey essentially functions as this for Marinette, Adrien, and their classmates, as they follow their dreams and aspirations while learning more about themselves.
* TheConfidant:
** Tikki is this to Marinette since she's her starter. Marinette confides to Tikki her secrets, doubts, and emotional baggage, especially when they are about Adrien and her superhero activities.
*** To a lesser extent, Alya is this to Marinette too, in regards to her crush on Adrien and feelings of self-doubt.
** Similar to Tikki, Plagg acts like this to Adrien since he discusses his secrets and thoughts with him. Though [[SilentSnarker Plagg]] is rarely helpful.
*** Nino and later Marinette are people whom Adrien confides to whenever Plagg's not helpful, especially when revealing the stress from his father's expectation and the emotional turmoil that comes from his MissingMom and ParentalNeglect by his father.
* ContinuityNod: The following applies for references that did take place in either main series of Miraculous Ladybug or Pokémon (games and anime).
** Following his loss to Marinette and Adrien in the Tag Team battle finals in Chapter 13, Max was said to be getting over his SoreLoser tendencies [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E15TheGamer since leaving the Academy]].
** Lila's official debut in Chapter 26 mirrors her [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E24Volpina first appearance]] in the chronologically last episode of Season 1 in the show.
** Adrien retains his [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E05MrPigeon allergy of feathers]] [[spoiler: as shown in his and Lady Ledian's battle against Mr. Pidgeot and Mega Pidgeot with the latter molting some feathers his way]]. Good thing he doesn't currently own a Flying-type with feathers.
** Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir bump fists while exclaiming "Pound it!" after successfully thwarting Team Akuma's schemes and before parting ways.
** Greninja comes up as the perfect example when discussing the Bond Phenomenon.
** Max references how Nathaniel tended to [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E09TheEvillustrator doze off and daydream in class]] in Chapter 38.
** Alya mentions that [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E13TheMime Mylène's father works in theatre]] in Chapter 55.
* CurbstompBattle:
** Chloé was on the receiving end with Sabrina in the Parfum Palace Tag Tournament, courtesy of Kim and Max.
** Marinette delivers one to Chloé again with the score 3 to 0 in Chapter 27.
** Xavier Ramier and his Mega Pidgeot were strongly outmatched in a Sky-Battle against the opponent's Eelektross at the beginning of Chapter 32. [[spoiler: Poison Moth used this opportunity to create his new Bond Hybrid and Mr. Pidgeot returns the favor to that same trainer]].
** In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: it was obvious that Adrien wouldn't last against the Champion, his own father, given that he had up to five badges at that point. He and his Mega Gallade did put up a valiant effort against Gabriel's Mega Absol, but Gabriel didn't think so]].
* CurseCutShort:
** In Chapter 36, when Marinette crashed into Alya's back, the latter dragging her friend and abruptly stopped for reasons. Marinette was about to ask her what the [[PrecisionFStrike hell]] was going on until she sees Adrien being the reason why.
--->'''Marinette''': Alya, what the hel-[[LastSecondWordSwap lo]].
** In Chapter 41, Alya nearly loses it [[spoiler: due to Gabriel's harsh TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards Adrien after their exhibition match]], about to repeat what Marinette almost said above, only for Marinette to stop her and for Alya to [[LastSecondWordSwap substitute with something sounding similar]].
--->'''Alya''': If Adrien loses his sunshine because of him, there will be plenty of hel-.
--->'''Marinette''': Alya!
--->'''Alya''': ... [[GoshDangItToHeck Shellder]] to pay.
* DareToBeBadass: In Chapter 41 [[spoiler: the crowd divided on Adrien's battle performance were lifted in the air by Marinette's Gardevoir after one too many bad things said about Adrien. One [[{{JerkAss}} obnoxious trainer]] [[TooDumbToLive still continues to talk down to Marinette despite the position he is in]]. Marinette only needed to talk him down with little violence needed to have him back down]].
--> '''Obnoxious boy''': Why waste your time with that loser? (Is punished by Gardevoir's Psychic) Argh! Wh-What?!\
'''Marinette''': [[TranquilFury Why push my patience?]]
--> '''Obnoxious boy''': Y-You... You can't keep me down.\
'''Marinette''': Maybe not, you can't go around making claims that [[spoiler: [[ArmorPiercingResponse you'd last longer out there against Champion Agreste unless you really think you're above him]]]].
* DoorStopper: Chapter 50 is stated to be the halfway point of the whole story, meaning it'll measure up to 100 chapters. At 50 chapters, there is a total of 381,383 words.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Downplayed and averted in Chapter 47. [[spoiler:Lila]] kisses [[spoiler:Adrien]], notably against his will, after getting him alone. This is certainly not PlayedForLaughs as [[spoiler:Marinette]] watched the whole thing and is most likely hurt or worse as a result. And then there's still the victim, who already has eyes for someone else and would no doubt be saving himself for her alone.
* DramaticDrop: At the end of Chapter 47, [[spoiler: Marinette drops her phone upon witnessing Lila kissing Adrien]].
* DramaticIrony:
** Marinette wished that she and Adrien would become a BattleCouple like Ivan and Mylène. She sorta got her wish since both she and Adrien are Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir respectively except both don't know who the other is and the other is in love with either their civilian identity or alter-ego.
** The RunningGag of Marinette forgetting to ask Adrien to exchange numbers with her becomes increasingly hilarious when she ''already'' achieved that goal when both exchanged numbers with each other as Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir after their first victory against Team Akuma.
** [[spoiler:Chapter 50 finally reveals Gabriel to be Poison Moth. He explicitly admits to Nathalie that he's been tough on Adrien in moving to new destinations so that he wouldn't be tangled in Team Akuma's business, not knowing that Adrien is part of the Kalos duo fighting his forces off]].
** Adrien remarks that he owes it to his father for teaching him not to abuse his authority, calling him "a strong abider of order". [[spoiler:Gabriel is Poison Moth, the leader of Team Akuma who intends to throw Kalos into chaos and disrupt the balance in order to draw out Xerneas and Yveltal for his plan]].
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** It can be hinted that the [[spoiler: mirror girl]] from Chapter 44 is to allude to [[spoiler: Kagami Tsurugi, a new character that debuted in Miraculous Ladybug season two whose [[MeaningfulName first name means mirror in Japanese]]]]. She makes a full debut in Chapter 46 [[spoiler: by [[EstablishingCharacterMoment immediately challenging Luka to a Gym battle]] once the Laverre fashion show ends]].
** [[spoiler: Luka Couffaine]] is mentioned early even before his actual debut in season two in Chapter 45 [[spoiler: as the new Laverre Gym Leader, replacing Creator/LauraMarano, the actress whose Miraculous Ladybug character was hinted to appear at some point in season two, but was leaked early]]. They both debut in Chapter 46 [[spoiler: running the Laverre fashion show]].
* EpicFail:
** Chloé attempts to show off to Adrien during the informal Parfum Palace Tag Tournament that she was going to win, except that she didn’t and her match ends up being described as the shortest one to date.
** In Chapter 36, during the battle between Marinette and her Togetic against [[spoiler: Manon and the wild Dedenne the young girl befriended]], Togetic uses her [[ConfusionFu Metronome]] which results in the move [[spoiler: Splash]].
** Liepard Noir attempted to invoke the HeroicSecondWind with his Kirlia in Chapter 40 [[spoiler: by using the Dawn Stone he had on him to evolve his Kirlia into Gallade]]. He tosses [[spoiler: the Dawn Stone]] to his Kirlia... [[spoiler: only for him to toss it to Lady Ledian's Kirlia instead]]. Cue [[spoiler: the Dawn Stone]] having no effect on that Kirlia.
** For the Dendemille Showcase in Chapter 50, Marinette and Adrien wound up sitting in the same row to watch the performances, but as pointed out by Rose and Juleka, neither of them knew about this, even with the intermission allowing the spectators to leave for a restroom break to allow opportunities for them to see each other. Only Marinette was made aware of this at the end of the Showcase upon reuniting with the two girls, [[HilarityEnsues internally wailing over this newfound revelation]].
* EveryoneCanSeeIt:
** Marinette's crush on Adrien was noted by Mylène and Ivan in Chapter 18. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Alya in the same chapter. Even Lila noticed it during Marinette's battle against Chloé.
*** Lampshaded again by [[CoolTeacher Caline Bustier]] in Chapter 35.
** Alya and later Marinette note that the latter's Kirlia has fallen in love with Adrien's Kirlia.
** Nino and later, Lila, note that Adrien's attraction to Lady Ledian is rather transparent, though he has rationalized it to simply being a big fan.
* ExactWords:
** In Chapter 36, Marinette goes CutenessProximity when she sees the Dedenne [[spoiler: that Manon befriended]], instantly holding him close to her face, and declares she always wanted to nuzzle one. Cue Dedenne thinking she meant the attack [[ShockAndAwe Nuzzle]] and [[HarmlessElectrocution uses it on her]].
** A variant. Playing up to her true deceptive nature, Lila states how beautiful and deadly her Ninetales is to Marinette before they begin their battle in Chapter 38. [[spoiler: The Ninetales she sent out is actually [[MasterOfIllusion Zoroark using Illusion]], but of course, no one figures it out until the next chapter.]] During the battle, Marinette rightfully questions the validity of Lila's claim on Ninetales not being what she appears, but Lila counters that she didn't lie about the aforementioned qualities of her Ninetales. [[LoopholeAbuse She simply didn't explicitly say that she was using Ninetales for their battle]].
* ExcitedTitleTwoPartEpisodeName: How most of the chapter titles are written! Matching the Pokémon Japanese episode titles!
* {{Expy}}: Aside from Kalos [[FantasyCounterpartCulture being based on France]], the author himself took the time to note strong similarities between the Miraculous Ladybug characters to Pokémon characters from both the games and the anime. Check out the [[Characters/ToBeAMiraculousMaster Characters]] page for more information.
* FanArt: A Website/DeviantArt artist drew this fabulous piece of [[https://www.deviantart.com/gracefulart693/art/Miraculous-Pokemon-Master-Lady-Ledian-791406071 Marinette and Lady Ledian]].
* {{Fauxshadowing}}: With the mirror girl heavily implied to foreshadow [[spoiler:Kagami's arrival]], Marinette fears that seeing her in person that she would steal Adrien away [[spoiler:due to her personal horror show of watching fake Adrien embracing the mirror girl in the scary house]]. It appears that [[spoiler:Kagami]] has no obvious romantic interest in Adrien and [[ChallengeSeeker only wants to challenge him to test her mettle]]. However...
* {{Foil}}:
** [[PassionateSportsGirl Alix]] and [[LovableJock Kim]]. This is best shown in their Pokémon team, whereas Alix's is balanced, but focuses mostly on speed and agility to deliver quick attacks and dodging. Kim's Pokémon empathizes greatly in brute strength in overpowering the opponents and the stamina to endure attacks. Their respective evolved starters, [[LightningBruiser Blaziken]] and [[MightyGlacier Swampert]] show this contrast.
** Adrien and [[spoiler: Kagami]], of course they were already foils of each other in the main series. They both come from families of renowned battlers, own Pokémon that are associated with [[MasterSwordsman blades]] (Gallade and Bisharp, respectively), and are expected to [[GenerationXerox live up to their family legacies]]. But while [[spoiler: Kagami]] openly embraces her heritage and [[ChallengeSeeker challenge every strong Trainer that comes her way]], it is implied that Adrien does not care about becoming the next Kalos Champion like his father and would rather explore the world with his friends.
* ForcefulKiss: [[spoiler:Lila]] plants one on [[spoiler:Adrien]], who was caught off guard and was no doubt unwilling at the end of Chapter 47.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** When Adrien wonders how Nino's doing, Alya teasingly asks if he's getting lonely like a Cubone near the start of their journey. [[spoiler: He gains a Cubone after the fiasco with Team Akuma in Glittering Cave]].
** A visitor in Shabboneau Castle mentioned he encountered a foreign Trainer who claimed she can Mega Evolve her Mawile. That trainer is Lila, who made her debut in Chapter 26.
** When Marinette takes a tour with Adrien of the exhibition in Parfum Palace, they come across a golden statue of a Milotic with Adrien remarking that Marinette would be capable of raising a Feebas, the pre-evolved form. [[spoiler: During her not-so beach date with Adrien in Azure Bay, she captures a wild Feebas]].
** Following the Fauxshadowing entry, the mirror girl from the scary house adopts [[spoiler: Lila's]] eyes before proceeding to [[spoiler: kill the fake Adrien in front of Marinette]]. [[spoiler: Lila]] reappears in Chapter 47 and proceeds to cause trouble by [[spoiler: defeating Marinette in a battle and then forcing herself on Adrien with a hiding Marinette watching the whole thing]].
* FourIsDeath: PlayedWith by Chapter 44, the HalloweenEpisode. [[spoiler: Adrien is "killed" in front of Marinette in the scary house, but the whole horror experience was all an illusion]].
* FreudianExcuse: Although [[spoiler: Fennekin]] is a born [[TheTrickster trickster]] and Alya assumes that she pulls immature pranks on visitors out of [[ItAmusedMe boredom]], it's speculated that because [[spoiler: Fennekin was never chosen as anyone's starter for the longest time due to trainers picking the more popular Pokémon and leaving her, resulted in Fennekin acting out just get noticed by anyone. [[DontYouDarePityMe Fennekin dismisses Marinette and Alya's presumptions of her]] but the narration implies that this isn't far off]].
* FriendlyRivalry:
** Marinette becomes one for Adrien because she CannotSpitItOut while they were in Lumiose Trainer Academy.
** Adrien and Nino.
** Pretty much everyone in their class aiming for the Kalos League, sans Chloé.
** Rose and Juleka in terms of Pokémon Showcases.
* FromBadToWorse: It was bad in Chapter 47 that Marinette loses to [[spoiler:Lila]] in a Pokémon battle with Adrien on the line. It got worse near the end [[spoiler:when Lila [[ForcefulKiss steals a kiss]] from Adrien with Marinette watching from behind a tree, who then [[DramaticDrop drops her phone]] out of shock]].
* FusionDance: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]]. Team Akuma's Bond Hybrids, wherein the brainwashed Trainer and Pokémon [[TransformationHorror share appearances and colors]], seem to be formed by invoking the Bond Phenomenon, which in the Pokémon anime demonstrates it through Ash and Greninja, through the use of Mega Evolution energy. The transformations are bound by Key Stones. The human and Pokémon don't fuse physically [[spoiler: though constant physical contact seems to give the Pokémon extra power]], but somewhere on the mental and emotional level. [[spoiler: The maxed bond is forced and unnatural though, but Poison Moth plans on using them as additional firepower for Team Akuma in either luring out Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir for their special Key Stones or possibly luring out [[OlympusMons Xerneas and Yveltal]] due to the fact that what he's doing goes against the laws of nature]].
* FusionFic: The author attempted this to see what it would be like if the Miraculous characters lived in the Pokémon universe, such as what kind of Pokémon would they capture and what paths they would take in their journeys.
* GentleGiant: The chauffeur [[spoiler: that takes Alya back to Lumiose City by the end of Chapter 30. According to Alya, he was Adrien's former bodyguard and driver before Adrien left on his journey and now works as a driver for Lumiose City businesses. He still protects Adrien in important events, like the Coumarine Showcase. He's also known as the [[InSeriesNickname "Slaking chauffeur"]] due to his build and owning a Slaking for protection. Despite his serious appearance, he helped Alya look for Marinette instead of taking her back to Lumiose City immediately and patiently waited for Alya to have her battle]].
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan:
** Downplayed that Alya doesn't need to use physical violence. When Marinette was about to give up during her match against Jalil's Mega Lucario, Alya reminding her about her goals is all it took to snap her out of it.
-->'''Alya:''' [[RousingSpeech Marinette Dupain-Cheng, you're not done yet, ya hear me?!]] [[{{Determinator}} If Tikki can still battle]], [[YouAreNotAlone so can you!]] Who cares how strong Lucario's Mega Evolution is! [[DareToBeBadass If you plan on using that power one day, you have to learn to beat it on your own!]] [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre And I know you can do it now! Use your true inner strength to evolve first!]]
** Played straight in Chapter 42, in which [[spoiler: Lady Ledian slaps Liepard Noir after he snaps at her due to his [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness increased aggression and obsession]] to save Nino. She winds up getting through to him by [[MeaningfulEcho reciting the same words Adrien shared with her as Marinette]]]].
-->'''Lady Ledian:''' Like I said, I understand. But attacking senselessly like that won't help. Like [[LovesMyAlterEgo someone I admire]] once told me, [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre believe in your own strength]], [[YouAreNotAlone just like your friends do]].
** At the same time as the above, [[spoiler: Liepard Noir's Gallade winds up confused by Mega Blastoise's Water Pulse and attacks Lady Ledian's Gardevoir. She slaps him out of his confusion at the same time Lady Ledian smacks some sense back into Liepard Noir]].
** Plagg, surprisingly, [[spoiler: whips Adrien in the face with his tail near the end of Chapter 49 when Adrien vents off particularly dark thoughts regarding why he is still [[DeathSeeker "around"]] since apparently even that's where [[BrilliantButLazy Plagg]] draws the line]].
* GilliganCut: During the Tag-Team Semifinals, Chloé declares she would win the "useless battle" against Kim and Max. Cut to [[EpicFail Chloé's Meowth and Sabrina's Bulbasaur defeated in a short amount of time]].
* GoForTheEye: During the final battle against [[spoiler: Nadja's Magnezone]] in Chapter 37, [[spoiler: Marinette has Swadloon launch Energy Balls into its three eyes to disorient it]].
* GoThroughMe:
** In Chapter 36, Nino prevents other Trainers from pestering Adrien for Pokémon battles by battling them himself while having his Pokémon block the exits unless they agree to leave Adrien alone until he leaves Lumiose City.
* GoldfishPoopGang: [[spoiler: The trio of punks from the Lost Hotel in Chapter 49]] made a reappearance in Chapter 53. However, [[spoiler: Marinette and her friends never actually fight them as someone else winds up chasing them off]].
* GotMeDoingIt: Adrien's Pokémon puns whether in or out of costume are so infectious that Marinette, Alya and even ''[[NoFourthWall the narration]]'' start spewing puns.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Despite having a T rating, cursing has mostly been averted by using Pokémon names as substitutes, such as using Arceus for God and Muk for... well, the PrecisionFStrike. Prominent with Alya, who is said to have unfiltered vocabulary by Marinette.
* GratuitousFrench: Alec Cataldi, the host of the Pokémon Showcases tends to dabble in these.
* HalloweenEpisode: Chapter 44, which was published on October 31, 2017. The setting itself doesn't take place on Halloween, but it is horror-themed.
* HauntedHouse: The scary house. Similar to VideoGame/PokemonXAndY and the anime counterpart, there is an older gentleman who shares the tale of the faceless men horde. [[spoiler: But the author incorporates a bit of the more hardcore haunted effects from the Pokémon Generations episode, ''The Old Chateau'', by having Marinette and Alya being subjected to a variety of strong illusions. One reviewer offered that the scary house is home to Gengar with a serious sense in showmanship, using Hypnosis and Nightmare to scare visitors without seriously harming them. However, the whole situation regarding the scary house's powers is ultimately left up to interpretation]].
* HeavySleeper: Marinette is implied to be this as Alya often remarks getting her awake or out of her daydreams with minor electrocutions from her Elekid.
* HesNotMyBoyfriend:
** When Jalil comments that Marinette looks anxious like whenever Alix talks about Kim, Alix tries to deny it with little success, with Alya smirking at the implications.
--->'''Alix:''' (to Jalil) Will you stop bringing that up?! (faces Alya next) Wipe that stupid look off your face, Cesaire! [[{{Tsundere}} I'm only talking about wiping the floor with that meathead in the Kalos League!]]
** When Liepard Noir starts flirting with Lady Ledian during their debut, Lady Ledian has to correct Team Akuma Grunts and Alya that they are not in a relationship.
* HeroicBSOD:
** Marinette suffers a brief and minor one in the Parfum Palace tag battle during the first round, wherein she is eliminated first and Adrien had to fight off [[OfficialCouple Ivan and Mylène]] on his own. Despite being able to move on to the next round, Marinette felt humiliated for holding Adrien back and ran off before Adrien found her and snapped her out of it.
** Happens again in Chapter 23 where Marinette nearly suffered this during her battle against Jalil's Mega Lucario when the odds seems against her and she begins to freak out. It is only when Alya [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan snaps her out of it]] by giving her [[RousingSpeech a speech that reminded her of her goal]].
** When Marinette faced Team Akuma for the first time as Lady Ledian, she was affected by the grunts' taunts because of how [[VillainHasAPoint true]] and [[AccidentalTruth accurate]] they are to an extent. Liepard Noir's timely rescue and [[ShutUpHannibal shutting down their taunts]] helped her find the courage she needed to face them.
** In Chapter 32, Xavier's Pidgeot was so shaken up by the one-sided Sky Battle despite the benefits of Mega Evolution that [[spoiler: it left both trainer and Pokémon vulnerable to Team Akuma's ambush and brainwashing]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: The [[{{Jerkass}} trainer]] who defeated Xavier and his Mega Pidgeot with his Eelektross proceeded to scoff and mock the older trainer for losing and disregarded his [[GracefulLoser acceptance of his loss]] as him just being mad at this humiliating defeat. Cut to the end of Chapter 33, the trainer and his Eelektross were beaten by [[spoiler: Mr. Pidgeot and his Mega Pidgeot after they were turned into a Bond Hybrid]] and the trainer is shown to be a BIG SoreLoser.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes I-Q]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Along the lines of her CombatPragmatist battle style, Lady Ledian has no qualms in harming people if it means stopping Bond Hybrids from wreaking havoc while Liepard Noir tries to find riskier alternatives to avoid unnecessarily harming innocent lives. [[spoiler: A good example would be attacking Mega Pidgeot with her Kirlia's Thunderbolt, even though the electrocution would also affect Mr. Pidgeot, who is riding on Mega Pidgeot's back on top of sharing the pain through their forced power bond]].
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: The illusion of Adrien being pierced by a huge mirror shard in front of Marinette in the scary house. Fortunately, it was a hallucination caused by the scary house]].
* InSeriesNickname:
** The only Pokémon that are considered to have nicknames are the ones based on the Kwamis.
*** Marinette's Ledyba/Ledian is Tikki.
*** Adrien's Purrloin/Liepard is Plagg.
*** Fu's Torterra is Wayzz.
*** [[spoiler:Poison Moth has a elegant-patterned Vivillon called Nooroo]].
*** [[spoiler:Alya's Braixen/Delphox]] is Trixx.
*** [[spoiler:Chloé's Vespiquen]] is Pollen.
*** [[spoiler:Kim's Chimchar/Monferno]] is Xuppu.
** Adrien is often referred to as Champion Agreste's son outside of his friends and classmates. [[DontCallMeSir He dislikes the title]] and prefers if they [[FriendlyAddressPrivileges called him by his name]].
** Tom nicknamed his longtime Sceptile "Jukain" to make "[[PainfulRhyme Dupain-Jukain]]" a thing. Jukain is Sceptile's Japanese name, indirectly lampshaded by Tom.
** Jagged Stone owns a Krookodile named Fang.
* InterfaceScrew: A rather literal but downplayed case regarding the author's profile, which regularly updates the characters' current teams. As of Chapter 62, [[spoiler: due to Team Akuma's attack on Couriway Town, Marinette and Alya are unable to trade back Electivire and Feebas (who didn't evolve during the first trade because [[EpicFail Marinette forgot to give her the Prism Scale]] beforehand). Thus as of present, Electivire is technically part of Marinette's official team while Feebas is legally Alya's Pokémon. Even the chapter summary for Chapter 62 in the [=AO3=] site doesn't list out the current teams as past chapters have done]].
* InterfaceSpoiler: Lila never calls her 'Ninetales' [[spoiler: who in actuality is [[MasterOfIllusion Zoroark]]]] by name, only calling out battle commands as shown in her brief, but interrupted battle against Marinette in Chapter 38 and when fighting off Team Akuma in Chapter 39. Readers would likely know she is using this Pokémon due to WordOfGod via the author's bio page. [[spoiler: Only when Zoroark's Illusion disappears upon being hit does Lila begin calling her by name]].
* InternalReveal:
** [[spoiler: Marinette and Adrien figure out that the Key Stones they received (courteously by Master Fu) are connected to Xerneas and Yveltal respectively]] in Chapter 51.
** Adrien learns from [[spoiler: Wayhem]] about Marinette [[TranquilFury effectively silencing]] the bickering crowd via Gardevoir's Psychic after he lost to his father in his Exhibition Match.
* IntrepidReporter:
** Alya aims to be a top journalist for the Lumiose Press and uncover the mysteries and history of Kalos and Mega Evolution. She uploads these findings in her personal online Pokeblog, 'Catch'em All, Alya Cesaire! Findings of a Fabulous Trainer!' which updates close friends and families on what she has found. It eventually becomes a communication hub for Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir to communicate with each other regarding Team Akuma, Mega Evolution, and the Key Stones. [[spoiler:She had to part ways with Marinette when her internship at Lumiose Press has been accepted, but after proving her dedication and great work to the head editor, she is allowed to travel with Marinette again to continue providing more findings]].
** Nadja Chamack, who is both the head reporter for Lumiose Live and the Gym Leader of Lumiose City.
* ItOnlyWorksOnce: Marinette's strategy [[spoiler: in forcing up dirt to block Electric moves]] works against Nadja's Emolga, but is not as successful against [[spoiler: [[MightyGlacier Nadja's Magnezone]]]] due to its greater power.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Chloé, nuff said.
** Lila is rather downplayed as she isn't outwardly malicious, but the author confirmed that her and Marinette’s rivalry was bound to match the intensity of Ash and Paul’s rivalry. Plays it straight in later appearances, particularly in Chapter 47.
** The trainer and his Eelektross who beat Xavier and his Mega Pidgeot in an unfair Sky-Battle due to type advantage and his Eelektross's [[PowerFloats Levitate]] ability, proceeds to gloat and mock the older man despite the latter trying to be a GracefulLoser.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** The [[{{Jerkass}} Trainer]] that [[CurbstompBattle curbstomped]] [[spoiler: Xavier Ramier, who winds up as Team Akuma's next Bond Hybrid]] is seen rushing through the Lumiose Badlands to the Pokémon Center at the end of Chapter 33 due to his Eelektross needing immediate help. [[spoiler: As it turns out, Mr. Pidgeot ran into him along the way to the Kalos Power Plant and returned the favor with Mega Pidgeot's enhanced power]].
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall:
** In Chapter 10 after reuniting with Alix and being informed of the class reunion and Kim's bet, Alix would rather not dwell on what he wants with her old skates since they [[PervertedSniffing stink with sweat]], Alya agrees they should keep it [[ThinkOfTheChildren clean for the sake of the children]].
** In Chapter 11 during Marinette and Adrien's tag team battle against Ivan and Mylène, Ivan with Mylène's Flabebe using Vine Whip on Adrien's Litleo along with being affected by Attract seems to [[CasualKink enjoy]] getting whipped, especially on his rear end much to the audience's embarrassment.
--->'''Nino''': ''(Blushes in embarrassment)'' Uh, dudes, are we even allowed to show this?\
'''Alya:''' The setting's rated T, meaning anyone who comes across this has been warned beforehand of the content they'd encounter here. Just don't think about it too much.
** In Chapter 21 while Marinette and friends await the results of Alya's fossil and after Team Akuma's first attack, they muse on the possibility of going against Team Akuma without endangering their loved ones and Nino's joking comment inspires Marinette and Adrien to do the following:
--->'''Nino''': You'd think we'd be vigilantes for what we're attempting to do. At least we're not going around wearing masks and wearing weird costumes and skin-tight spandex to fight against evil.
** In the same chapter after the introduction to Adrien's newly caught Cubone, Marinette's Togepi hatching from her egg and Alya's newly resurrected Amaura, Nino comments that back in the day they battled Pokémon until weakened to capture them with Adrien replying good-heartedly that this isn't a typical game.
** In Chapter 28 when Marinette confides to Alya about Lila, she makes an insulting remark about her with Alya saying she could come up with worse only Marinette refuses to use more vulgar language.
--> '''Marinette''': It's not funny Alya. We have to do something about that... that... that Skuntank-bag!\
'''Alya''': Seriously girl? I know you're capable of more derogatory swears than that. Besides, the current rating of this story ought to allow it.\
'''Marinette''': I don't care. I have high moral standards. I'm not falling for your level of dirty language. And there are ''[[ThinkOfTheChildren children]]'' here!
--> '''Alya''': Yeah, who?\
'''Marinette''': Us, for starters.
* LemonyNarrator: The narration occasionally slips into [[DeadpanSnarker deadpan-snarking]], [[LampshadeHanging lampshade hanging]] and sometimes will [[NoFourthWall break the fourth wall]] and even shamelessly spouting [[PungeonMaster Pokémon puns]] in the story's proceeding.
--> '''Narration:''' [[NoFourthWall And while the author could make a more detailed account of these activities]], they would [[{{Filler}} merely detract]] from the main plot of this chapter.
* LittleNo: Serves as the WhamLine at the end of Chapter 47 [[spoiler: by Marinette upon seeing [[ForcefulKiss Lila kissing Adrien]]]].
* LoveAtFirstSight:
** Following the first victory over Team Akuma [[spoiler:and saving Ivan]], Adrien makes a DeclarationOfProtection for Lady Ledian, particularly the girl [[BeneathTheMask beneath the Ledian mask]], once he and Lady Ledian part ways and is alone.
--->'''Adrien:''' ''(after taking off his Liepard Noir mask)'' "Lady Ledian... Whoever you are behind the red mask, I will love you no matter what. I will make sure you stay safe so that you can protect Kalos and continue bringing smiles to everyone."
** [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] and [[AvertedTrope averted]] by Marinette herself near the end of Chapter 46 in dealing with her [[spoiler:brief attraction to Luka by comparing it to her feelings for Adrien. While Luka has proven to be a NiceGuy and is handsome, Marinette realizes that the immediate attraction to him didn't last long. In Adrien's case, it wasn't immediate, just like the main series. It took Adrien [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe showing that he was not like Chloé]] that [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan Marinette]] did fall in love with him]]. Compared to [[spoiler:Luka]], Marinette justified her feelings for Adrien that she took time to know him better. Alya was impressed over [[CharacterDevelopment her mature outlook]] on this.
* LoveTriangle:
** More like love rectangle once the [[LovesMyAlterEgo hero personas of the main characters]] made their debut.
** Played straight between Marinette and Lila, becoming a love rival on top of a regular rival, for Adrien.
* MacGuffin: The special Key Stones, labeled as the Earrings of Xerneas and the Ring of Yveltal by Master Fu, Marinette and Adrien receive from a source anonymous (again by Fu) to them by the end of Chapter 21. It turns out that they have [[ChekhovsGun another use outside of initiating Mega Evolution]] as seen in Chapter 25 upon taking on Team Akuma under their superhero alias.
** Because of their properties, Poison Moth targets their Key Stones, believing that they would lead him to Xerneas and Yveltal.
* MeaningfulName:
** The title of the story itself is a combination of elements between Miraculous Ladybug and Pokémon.
** It should be obvious that Marinette and Adrien's hero names are combinations of their superhero names from the main series and the evolved forms of their main Pokémon, Ledian and Liepard. On a similar note, Poison Moth comes from Venomoth's (and Dustox's coincidentally) classification: the ''Poison Moth Pokémon''.
* MirrorUniverse: Briefly invoked in Chapter 44 within the scary house, [[spoiler: in which Marinette encounters a more abrasive and brattier version of herself through a vanity mirror. Through Mirror Marinette's vicious insults, Marinette snapped back and [[PercussiveTherapy punched the mirror so hard that it started to crack]]. Mirror Marinette was impressed by her counterpart's strength and told her to remember her fear in order to grow stronger to protect Kalos and Adrien]].
* MythologyGag: [[MythologyGag/ToBeAMiraculousMaster Now has its own page]].
* NeverSayDie: Averted as unlike the two kid-friendly series this story is made up of, the word "death" and straightforward death threats are used. And considering that Yveltal, the embodiment of death and destruction, is involved, it's a given. This is prominent in Chapter 57 where the three-thousand-year-old Kalos war doesn't shy away from the harsh reality of the heavy death tolls in the war.
* NeverSayGoodbye: Invoked nonfatally by Marinette [[spoiler: in Chapter 30, telling Alya not to call their upcoming battle their "final battle," but rather "the last battle they'll have until they reunite." They do get back together once Alya catches Marinette in the Lumiose City Pokémon Center in Chapter 34 and they begin traveling together again by the end of Chapter 43. However, Alya will leave Marinette time to time to meet with her superiors in Lumiose Press]].
* NoodleIncident: At the beginning of Chapter 46, Alya mentions Marinette doing something particularly embarrassing in front of Adrien during his thirteenth birthday. Whatever it was, it involved [[PassionateSportsGirl Alix]] and [[CompetitionFreak Kim]] doing another contest right behind her.
* NothingIsScarier: [[spoiler: [[NightmareFace What appear]] before Marinette, Alya, Gardevoir and Trixx that terrified them in Chapter 44 is never truly revealed. [[ShrugOfGod The author gave several possible explanations on the source of the scary house, but ultimately left it up to the readers' interpretation on the events]]]].
* ObliviousToLove: Said to be an InformedAttribute of Adrien, but given his [[ParentalNeglect background]], it might be justified. However, it’s still averted as he is still a ChickMagnet in-universe and is aware of his fans. Not to mention his own budding crush on [[LovesMyAlterEgo Lady Ledian]].
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Alya, who remarks it as a common trait among young boy Trainers. One example of this is that neither Adrien nor Nino noticed that Marinette's Kirlia gained a crush on Adrien's Kirlia while the girls did.
* OhCrap:
** When Adrien meets up with Alya, Marinette, and Nino and had his head bandaged up [[spoiler:due to receiving it as Liepard Noir during the battle against Mr. Pidgeot]], he starts panicking internally when Alya soon noticed the similarities of his head injury with Liepard Noir's along with having the same type of Pokémon as the hero.... [[spoiler: [[BaitAndSwitchComment concluding that he and Liepard Noir share similar tastes in Pokémon]]. Naturally, Adrien is relieved of this conclusion]].
** In Chapter 35, Marinette basically had this reaction when she realizes that her upcoming Gym battle with Nadja for the Voltage Badge will be twice as difficult due to her [[ThisIsGonnaSuck disadvantage against Electric-types]].
** While watching Marinette's practice battle with Alya for her upcoming Gym Battle against Nadja, Adrien had this when he [[spoiler:discovered Manon was nowhere to be seen, as she wandered off to follow a wild Dedenne]].
** [[spoiler: At the end of Chapter 53,]] Adrien had this reaction upon being approached by a then unknown challenger, [[spoiler: revealed to be [[LoonyFan Wayhem]] next chapter]].
* OneSteveLimit: The author has confirmed that no two characters would have the same Pokémon as to showcase a variety of them unless they have branching evolutions.
* OnlySaneMan:
** The male Team Akuma Grunt Adrien and Alya encountered in Chapter 20 is this compared to his [[CuteAndPsycho female partner]]. Even he [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it himself.
--> '''Male Grunt''': Why am I always paired with the crazy ones?
** Adrien's [[spoiler: recently evolved Pyroar]] is this among Adrien's team, since one is a [[BrilliantButLazy lazy]] [[BigEater glutton]], two have Adrien's hidden [[DorkKnight goofier]] traits and [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the only female]] is an [[ClingyJealousGirl overprotective bodyguard]].
* OpenSecret: Both Marinette and Adrien's Kirlia know about the SecretIdentity business they're going about by the end of Chapter 39 when sent out together by Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir, considering that the Kirlia are ChildhoodFriends and would easily recognize each other from the get-go despite their Trainers disguising themselves.
* OriginalCharacter: [[CuteAndPsycho Marge]] and [[BloodKnight Matthieu]], two powerful and loyal Team Akuma Admins that debuted in Chapter 62. They are based on [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Courtney and Matt]] respectively, specifically their ''Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire'' incarnations, to show how obsessed Poison Moth is to reach his goals.
** The author himself stated at the end of the chapter his dislike for creating original characters, but for the aforementioned case, it was a "necessary evil" to further characterize Team Akuma aside from it being simply a means for Poison Moth's goals. This differs from the many names used in Pokémon Showcases that are not found in ''Miraculous Ladybug'' as their purpose is to fill out as competition for Rose and Juleka for the title of Kalos Queen and nothing more.
* PaperThinDisguise:
** Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokémon universe]], no one can really tell it’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
** Inverted in Chapter 39, when [[spoiler: Tom and his Sceptile]] saved Marinette and Alix from several Team Akuma Grunts that ambushed them, 'Sceptile Mask' wore quite the elaborate costume. Marinette still knows [[spoiler: it's her father]] since she made the costume for Halloween three years ago.
* PetTheDog:
** Despite only protecting Sabrina due to her being the daughter of the Coumarine Gym Leader and head of the Kalos police force, [[AttentionWhore Lila]] still goes out of her way to protect her when the bespectacled girl goes to her Kecleon's aid when it might expose her [[spoiler:Zoroark]] to the enemies' attacks.
* PointOfDivergence: [[spoiler:In the game, AZ became immortal after being exposed by the ultimate machine as a side-effect from reviving his Floette. Here, the Stripling and his Turtwig, who's really a young Master Fu and Wayazz, pushed the king out of the way in order to stop. As a result, Fu and Wayazz were cursed with eternal life instead while the king grew till old age, dying as a broken man]].
* PoliceAreUseless: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. Roger actively helps Lady Ledian [[spoiler: by transporting her quickly to the Kalos Power Plant on his Gogoat while sending a squad from Lumiose City to slow down Team Akuma during Chapter 32]].
* PoorCommunicationKills: Downplayed, but was said to be the obstacle between Marinette and [[spoiler: Feebas]] in Chapter 45, with Marinette not listening to her Pokémon outside of training. [[spoiler: With Ice Beam mastered thanks to Wang's help, Marinette and Feebas both agree to get stronger together and decide a time when Feebas feels truly ready to evolve into Milotic]].
* PowerOfFriendship: An essential factor between a trainer and their Pokémon, especially when a strong bond is important in Mega Evolution. In addition, certain Pokémon evolved through maxed friendship with their trainers [[spoiler: like when Marinette's Togepi evolved into Togetic in Chapter 34 and her Swadloon evolving into Leavanny in Chapter 46]].
* PowerOfTrust: It plays an important role between a trainer and their Pokémon as a trainer has to rely on their Pokémon's abilities and a Pokémon must have faith in their trainer's orders in order to pull off risky tactics.
** Marinette and [[spoiler: Feebas]] share a profound moment of trust during a brief battle against [[spoiler: Wang and his Clawitzer]] in Chapter 45, which finally allows [[spoiler: Feebas]] to master Ice Beam.
* PyrrhicVictory: [[spoiler: In Chapter 52, Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir, with the help of Delphox Rouge, managed to calm and heal the Abomasnow that Team Akuma brainwashed, and arrested the Grunts who were involved in the operation. However, Poison Moth got what he sought through the data collected from Liepard Noir's Key Stone, Yveltal's energy pattern and is now able to find the embodiment of death easily]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes R-Z]]
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
** In Chapter 41, [[spoiler:Gabriel gives a scathing evaluation to Adrien after winning the exhibition battle against him. The saddest part was that some points he made were [[JerkAssHasAPoint valid]] that Adrien couldn't argue against him]].
** In the same chapter, [[spoiler:Marinette gives one to a {{JerkAss}} trainer after he disses Adrien and thinks he can perform better than him]].
** In Chapter 42, [[spoiler:Gabriel also gave one to Nino when the latter attempted to reason with the older man regarding Adrien's performance. It affected Nino so much that he began training recklessly, leaving him vulnerable to Team Akuma's ambush and Poison Moth's brainwashing]].
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Roger Raincomprix is the Coumarine City Gym Leader and the lieutenant of the Kalos police force. He gives helpful advice to Marinette [[spoiler: which helped her earn her fourth gym badge against him]]. When Lady Ledian informs him that [[spoiler: Team Akuma has attacked the Kalos Power Plant with their new Bond Hybrid, he immediately calls in for help in order to deal with the Grunts, allowing Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir to face the new hybrid without any interference]].
* TheRival:
** Chloé typically serves as one towards Marinette, but Lila is said to be a more competent one.
** Both Alix and Kim are fierce rivals to each other and their starters, Torchic and Mudkip respectively strongly enforce it.
** Anyone who isn't Adrien's classmate or friend has this to him since [[spoiler:his father made an announcement to all trainers to not hold back when facing him]]. He finally gets a significant rival in the form of [[spoiler: Kagami]] starting Chapter 46, but he [[UnknownRival is unaware of her existence]] for the moment.
* RuleOfThree: Alya committed three transgressions, albeit unintentionally, to Marinette [[spoiler: prior to them going their separate ways in Chapter 30, which provided plenty of friction in their big fight]].
** The first was in Chapter 24 when Alya ditched Marinette in Shalour City to go to Geosenge Town when Team Akuma attacked, endangering herself for the sake of a scoop. To be fair, it did give Marinette the opportunity to change into Lady Ledian and fight.
** The second was at Lila’s introduction in Chapter 26. Alya heard of her name before and started to name off some of her supposedly great accomplishments right in front of Adrien, which included competing in the Hoenn Ever Grande Conference and Johto Silver Conference, as well as meeting famous celebrities. That didn’t sit well with [[ClingyJealousGirl Marinette]] and Alya realized too late the implications of her actions.
** The third was Alya suddenly [[spoiler: announcing her leaving Marinette to intern in Lumiose Press]] by the end of Chapter 29. Her timing couldn’t be more horrible and [[KickTheDog Marinette had such a good day too]].
* RunningGag:
** A notable one is Marinette forgetting to ask Adrien for his phone number whenever they meet up, but [[ClarkKenting for good reason]]. Sure she could’ve gotten it from Alya, who has it, but [[StalkerWithACrush Marinette would rather not have any sort of evidence implicate her]].
** A minor running gag is Marinette being subjected to HarmlessElectrocution by Electric-types. Examples include:
*** Alya's Elekid waking [[HeavySleeper her]] up.
*** Alix's Pikachu due to her CutenessOverload reaction and [[{{Glomp}} glomping]] her.
*** A [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Dedenne]], who accidentally uses Nuzzle on her when he overheard her say the word.
*** [[spoiler: Alya's new Porygon-Z using a very weak Zap Cannon on her [[ItAmusedMe just to see her reaction]]]]
*** [[spoiler: The wild Rotom possessing Max's phone in the Lost Hotel when she touches said possessed phone, winding up with frizzed hair and covered in [[AshFace ashes from head to toe]]]]. [[LampshadeHanging By this point, Marinette comments she's somehow part lightning rod considering she's constantly zapped multiple times]].
*** [[spoiler: Rotom]] shocks her again for kicks in Chapter 53 by possessing her phone.
** It seems whenever Adrien's Litleo/Pyroar is sent to battle, he ends up becoming infatuated with the opponent. Such opponents were Mylène's Flabebe [[spoiler: and Wayhem's Delcatty]].
* SacredFirstKiss: [[spoiler: Lila]] steals [[spoiler: Adrien's]] presumably first kiss, making the impact of this action even worse.
* SinisterSurveillance: Poison Moth's Venomoth has a surveillance device attached to him that allows his master to observe what he's seeing far from his hidden location. [[spoiler: Chapter 50 reveals that Venomoth sometimes observes Adrien]]. Poison Moth uses this to search for potential victims to use as his Bond Hybrid. Moreover, Team Akuma Grunts serve as Poison Moth's eyes, ears, and hands to carry out his plans.
--> '''Lady Ledian''': [[ParanoiaFuel He's watching somehow. I just know it]].
* ShipTease:
** Outside of the expected Marinette/Adrien pairing, Alya and Nino had their moments when their class reunited to have a tag team tournament in Parfum Palace, particularly after their battle together.
** Inside the Tower of Mastery, when Jalil mentions how Alix spoke about Kim a lot, she tries to [[NotWhatItLooksLike dismiss it]] as her venting of their intense rivalry [[{{Tsundere}} despite the furious blush she had as she claimed it]].
** Chapter 61 features both Kim's return after a long absence offscreen and Ondine's introduction to the story. Alya even complains that their interactions are almost like watching Marinette and Adrien again.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Alya, being Marinette's best friend and self-proclaimed wingwoman, often encourages Marinette to talk to Adrien more and tries to help her friend get closer to him.
** Master Fu is one after Marinette and Adrien's first victory against Team Akuma like in the original series.
** In Chapter 35, [[CoolTeacher Caline Bustier]] [[EveryoneCanSeeIt reveals]] that she's been rooting for Marinette in getting together with Adrien since the Academy days, much to Marinette's embarrassment.
--> '''Marinette''': ''[[ThinkInText I'm getting love advice from my own former teacher. I'm so lame!]]''
** Chapter 61 has both Marinette and Ayla planning how to get Kim and Ondine together, given their awkward but obvious mutual attraction.
* ShoutOut: This fic has given plenty of them towards most of the Pokémon anime episodes in addition to reusing elements from Miraculous Ladybug. However, there are a few other pop culture references scattered about. [[ShoutOut/ToBeAMiraculousMaster Now with its own Shout-Out page]].
* ShownTheirWork: If one takes the time to analyze the mechanics, story, and logic implemented from the Pokémon X and Y games into the story, mostly averting GameplayAndStorySegregation. This includes estimating when Pokémon that evolve by leveling up relative to the strength of opponents a PlayerCharacter encounters while moving through the story, locations where certain wild Pokémon can be found, and minor references mentioned at certain locations (i.e.: mention of Mawile in Shabboneau Castle where the player can get a Mawilite).
* ShutUpHannibal:
** Like in the original show, Poison Moth appears to the heroes via hologram and demands they hand in their Key Stones [[spoiler: after they removed the forced fusion and healed Ivan]] under the threat of plunging Kalos into chaos. Lady Ledian decided to have Swadloon [[TalkToTheFist shoot an Energy Ball at his Venomoth instead]].
--> '''Lady Ledian''': [[RousingSpeech Listen here and listen well, Poison Moth. You've made it clear enough that you're the villain here and that you won't spare Kalos from your maniacal tendencies even if we supposedly hand over our Key Stones to you.]] [[DeclarationOfProtection That is why I, Lady Ledian, make this pledge to take you and Team Akuma down and protect Kalos from your poison!]]
* SomethingWeForgot: Chapter 36 is about Marinette, Alya, and Adrien babysitting Manon. Nino was supposed to join them, but Adrien mentioned that he [[GoThroughMe was holding back other Trainers that wanted to challenge him [Adrien] to Pokémon battles]]. By the end of the chapter, [[spoiler:after finding Manon due to her wandering off,]] Alya claims that she felt that they forgot about something. Cut to Nino, who's still stuck in the Pokémon Center and trying to keep other Trainers from pestering Adrien.
* StealthPun: [[AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents Tom]] nicknamed his Sceptile "[[BilingualBonus Jukain]]" to make "Dupain-Jukain" a thing. Marinette saw it as a PainfulRhyme until Tom points out Marinette's last name. Cue {{Facepalm}} by Marinette upon realization, though it still qualifies as a PainfulRhyme.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: When confronted on [[StalkerWithACrush questionable actions regarding her crush on Adrien]], Marinette insists that the information she got on him during their time in Lumiose Trainer Academy was something along the lines of [[InsistentTerminology "legally obtained through dubious means too complicated to discuss"]]. PlayedForLaughs, of course.
* TalkativeLoon: [[spoiler: In contrast when [[TheQuietOne Ivan and his Rhyhorn were brainwashed]], when Mr. Ramier and his Mega Pidgeot were brainwashed, he's quite the MotorMouth]]. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Liepard Noir.
-->'''[[DeadpanSnarker Liepard Noir]]''': Now there's a twist. This guy's pretty vocal compared to the last.
* {{Telepathy}}: [[spoiler: Marinette's Gardevoir and Adrien's Gallade]] communicate with each other regarding the developing friendship between their Trainers, [[spoiler: whether they're in their heroic personas or not]]. They act as an AudienceSurrogate, [[LampshadeHanging lampshading]] thoughts of the obvious, such as [[LovesMyAlterEgo the feelings their Trainers have for each other]].
* TemptingFate: When the group ventured down Gliterring Cave in Chapter 19 and when they encountered a fork path, Nino's confident that they are strong enough on taking on anything and adds "What can possibly go wrong?" which Alya lampshades this trope. Naturally Team Akuma caused a swarm of Woobat to attack the group.
* TitleDrop: The Miraculous Master in the story's title is dropped in Chapter 57 [[spoiler: as the name of Fu's group of Bond Phenomenon emissaries given to them by the three-thousand-year-old king]].
* ThatCameOutWrong: In Chapter 45 when debating about [[spoiler: Luka's attractiveness]] and Adrien's possible reaction to it, Alya thinks that Adrien could fall for him, also happening to add if he [[MistakenForGay "swung that way"]]. Cue Marinette freaking out over that possibility while Alya fails to salvage her troubled heart.
* ThisIsThePartWhere: When the group notice the cave trembling due to the Woobat in a frenzy state, [[DeadpanSnarker Alya]] says this regarding Nino's [[TemptingFate ''What can possibly go wrong'']] statement.
--> '''Alya''': ... And this is the part where I'm supposed to say that Nino saying, 'What can possibly go wrong?' has totally jinxed us.
* ToBeAMaster: Played with by the title itself. Averted by both Marinette and Adrien. Marinette doesn't really care about being the best Pokémon Trainer with her main passion being a [[TheFashionista Pokémon fashion designer]]. Adrien is training to be the best [[WellDoneSonGuy out of his father's wishes]].
** Marinette and Chloé's primary reason for taking the Pokémon League Challenge is because it allows them to keep interacting with Adrien. They actually have no plans of trying to become champion.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: Nooroo the Elegant Pattern Vivillon, who's currently under Poison Moth's ownership, is hinted to have been a Pokémon that once belonged to Adrien's mom]].
* TrainingFromHell: It is implied that Adrien went through some of this before being allowed to join Lumiose Academy, resulting in him being seen as TheAce by many. Of course, his father, the current reigning Kalos Champion, would’ve preferred to have him privately trained in the frigid forests outside of Snowbelle City to groom him to become the next Champion.
** Confirmed by Nino in Chapter 40 that when Adrien was around Manon's age, he had to learn to battle on the spot against Nathalie, the Fire Specialist of the Kalos Elite Four, under Gabriel's supervision. However, [[spoiler: [[ToughLove Gabriel ordered Nathalie not to hold back against Adrien]], [[WouldHurtAChild to treat him as any regular challenger instead of a little kid]]]].
--> '''Alya''': Come on! That's so wrong! [[spoiler: At Manon's age? Doesn't she even know how wrong it is to use your full strength on a child]]?!\
'''Marinette''': That's not training. I-I don't know what to call it.
--> '''Alya''': Torture? Punishment? ''Abuse''?!
* TransformationSequence: The evolutions of [[spoiler: Lady Ledian's and Liepard Noir's Kirlia into Gardevoir and Gallade, respectively,]] resemble that of [[MythologyGag Marinette and Adrien transforming into Ladybug and Cat Noir, respectively]]. WordOfGod via the author's note at the end of Chapter 40 confirms they will be performing the same transforming sequences [[spoiler: for Mega Evolution]].
* TheTrickster: The [[spoiler: Fennekin]] living in Professor Damocles's lab in Chapter 35 is described to be this, especially around visitors.
* {{Tsundere}}:
** [[spoiler: Trixx]] is shown to be a Type A towards Alya, hiding her insecurities with the tsuntsun front when Alya picks apart why [[FreudianExcuse she causes trouble for attention]].
** Lady Ledian and her Kirlia [[spoiler: especially when she evolves into Gardevoir]], are shown to be both Type B towards Liepard Noir and his Kirlia [[spoiler: later Gallade]]. Both are normally sweet, but these two often cause their more sassy side to surface, especially with their attempts to impress the two girls.
* TheUnfavorite: Jalil shows signs that he feels that he is this, especially since Alix is expected to take his place as Gym Leader when she's ready.
* VerbalTic: [[spoiler: Mr. Pidgeot]] squawks like a Pidgeot as a Bond Hybrid, often peppering his speech with "[[PokemonSpeak Pidgeo!]]" when excited or angered.
* WellDoneSonGuy:
** Adrien's motive to training hard to win the Kalos League and challenge the Elite Four, given that his father is the Champion. In Chapter 41, [[spoiler: this bites him back during the exhibition match against his father. Adrien took pleasing Gabriel as top priority during the battle that he was out of sync with his Mega Gallade, resulting in him being unable to fully use the new abilities and potential of his Pokémon's Mega Evolved Form]].
** Jalil seems to have shades of this. Thankfully, his father does tell him [[SoProudOfYou how proud he is of him]].
* WhamEpisode:
** Chapter 17, where Master Fu is seen watching Marinette and Adrien while sensing a great danger that's about to descend on the Kalos region.
** Chapter 20, where Marinette and her friends encounter [[BigBad Team Akuma]] for the first time as themselves. Despite being able to defeat the Grunts, [[spoiler:[[DownerEnding Ivan wound up being captured and is subsequently corrupted]]]].
** Chapter 47, given its ending and its potentially detrimental aftereffects on Marinette and Adrien...
** After what appeared to be a standard Showcase Chapter with Marinette and her friends, Chapter 50 ends with [[spoiler: TheReveal that the true identity of Poison Moth is none other than Champion Gabriel Agreste, and Natalie is his [[TheDragon second-in command]]]].
** Chapter 51, [[spoiler: Marinette and Adrien figure out the importance of their respective Key Stones, [[NearVillainVictory Team Akuma and Poison Moth nearly getting the upper hand over our two heroes]]... [[BigDamnHeroes and Alya coming to their rescue as a new hero: Delphox Rouge]]]].
** Chapter 52, [[spoiler: The heroes managed to defeat Team Akuma once again with the help of newcomer Delphox Rouge. Unbeknownst to them, the device used on Liepard Noir's Key Stone doesn't siphon energy but sends the data back to Poison Moth for analysis. Poison Moth now has a lead on the whereabouts of Yveltal]].
** Chapter 55, [[spoiler: [[TheBusCameBack Chloé makes her big return]] by challenging Marinette and winning her rematch fight. The loss results in Marinette letting her Togetic decide if [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatResponsibility she wants to evolve into Togekiss]]. Meanwhile, Adrien meets Master Fu, being the first of the two to meet him in person]].
* WhamLine:
** Alya's ending line in Chapter 29.
--->'''Alya:''' ''[[To Marinette]]'' [[spoiler: I have an internship with the Lumiose Press... and I start tomorrow]].
** Poison Moth gives out this gem [[spoiler: when he has Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir back into a corner in Chapter 51]].
---> '''Poison Moth:''' [[spoiler: My master plan will soon be realized. And unlike the tragedy of the three-thousand-year-old Kalos king, I ''won't'' suffer the same fate as he]].
** Although the heroes seemingly won, Poison Moth has this to say at the end of Chapter 52.
---> '''Poison Moth:''' [[spoiler: Yveltal's energy signature has been identified. Time to go Legendary Pokémon hunting]].
** Near the end of Chapter 55, Adrien meets a certain elderly man for the first time.
---> '''Master Fu:''' ''[[To Adrien]]'' [[spoiler: Hello, Liepard Noir]].
** After Master Fu finishes the story of the three-thousand-year-old war and the king in Chapter 57, Marinette comes to this realization.
--->'''Marinette''': [[spoiler: I know I said I'd listen to your story, but... it's really way into detail for a story that is not in any history book... But a tale like yours to be given this much depth and to be actually true, then]]...\
'''Master Fu''': [[spoiler: ... I would've had to be there live, correct]]?\
'''Marinette''': [[spoiler: But how...? You'd have to be over three-thousand... years... old]].
* XanatosGambit:
** During the battle against [[spoiler: Mr. Pidgeot]] in Chapter 33, Liepard Noir has his Cubone use [[BadWithTheBone Bonemerang]] against [[spoiler: Mega Pidgeot]] despite the fact that [[DishingOutDirt Ground-type moves]] typically have [[NoSell no effect against Flying-type Pokémon]]. If it works, [[spoiler: which it did,]] then Liepard Noir would have more options in attacking back [[spoiler: especially since the [[BattleBoomerang Bonemerang]] separated Mr. Pidgeot from his Pokémon by knocking him off of Mega Pidgeot's back. It is unknown if it would've affected Mega Pidgeot because of his No Guard Ability, but [[BoomerangComeback it did strike Mr. Pidgeot in the face on the rebound]]. At least Liepard Noir wouldn't have to hold back with the human separated from his Pokémon]]. If it didn't, at least Liepard Noir bought time for Lady Ledian to enact her plan.
** Marinette attempts this during her battle in the Laverre Gym in Chapter 46 by [[spoiler: covering the battlefield in ice. Her Feebas manages to cover her half of the field before [[CombatPragmatist Luka knocks her out with Slurpuff's Energy Ball before it was completed]]]]. Marinette improvises [[spoiler: by either making use of the ice herself or by tempting Luka to use it and fall into her counter strategy throughout the Gym battle]].
* {{Yandere}}:
** PlayedForLaughs. Finding out that Adrien was injured [[spoiler: as Liepard Noir during the battle against Mr. Pidgeot in Chapter 33]] caused Marinette to briefly adopt a [[DullEyesOfUnhappiness dark expression]] and tells Alya over the phone that she would "send the evildoers to the Distortion World in a bag." Would extend to ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend, but she's technically not Adrien's girlfriend... yet. Alya does call her out on it, [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall telling her not to change the direction of the story into a "trashy attempt at romantic horror."]]
** Again played for dark laughs in Chapter 45 when Marinette imagines herself dying alone and having her ghost haunt Adrien's home and give his supposed wife her unholy revenge while convincing the living Adrien to join her in the afterlife. Even Alya was creeped out by her ImagineSpot.
* YankTheDogsChain: Adrien's current relationship with [[AbusiveParents his]] [[ParentalNeglect father]] is definitely [[ToughLove not healthy]], particularly since his [[MissingMom mom disappeared]]. Before they begin their exhibition match in Chapter 41, [[spoiler: Adrien was at least happy to hear that [[ThrowTheDogABone Gabriel did look forward to seeing him again]]. However, after [[CurbstompBattle Adrien's inevitable loss]], Gabriel [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech chastises him in public regarding his performance and inability to make full use of Mega Gallade's new abilities]]]]. Poor [[WellDoneSonGuy guy]] can't catch a break with him.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** Marinette finds herself on the receiving end of this due to her crippling self-confidence. She is usually pulled out of this by [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan Alya]] or, in a few cases, [[ShipTease Adrien]].
** Juleka receives one from a fellow competing Pokémon Performer when she loses at the Theme Performance in the Coumarine City Showcase in Chapter 28 as she was surprised at how many people voted for her. The results were a very close race.
** Lady Ledian says this about Adrien and indirectly to Liepard Noir after the latter made nonchalant comments about "that Agreste kid".
** Both Lady Ledian and Liepard Noir assure Xavier [[spoiler: after he and his Pidgeot were freed from Team Akuma's brainwashing and Bond Hybrid fusion]] that he's still a skilled Sky trainer since he made it this far and should ignore those who disrespect his skills or Flying-types.
** In Chapter 34, [[spoiler: after Adrien confides to Marinette about his issues regarding his MissingMom and his father's ParentalNeglect, Marinette assures him that it's not stupid to feel that way and that Adrien still is the kind and thoughtful boy she admires ''in spite'' of his lonely upbringing since he doesn't let these issues [[TookALevelInJerkass change]] who [[NiceGuy he]] is]].
* YouAreNotAlone:
** Both Marinette and Adrien are reminded of this during their low points or a critical moment in battle, as they have their friends and Pokémon with them to accompany them on their journey.
** In Chapter 30, [[spoiler: when Alya has to leave Marinette for a while to go to her internship, she is reminded that even if Alya won't accompany her for a while, her best friend will still support her from afar]].
** In Chapter 34, a Mother's Day-themed chapter, [[spoiler: Adrien confides in Marinette about his MissingMom issue and the resulting ParentalNeglect issue from his father when she, Alya, and Nino talk about having fun with their families for the rest of the day. Marinette takes the liberty to remind him that he is never alone as there are people who ''do'' care about him, including [[ShrinkingViolet her, but in a more subdued tone]]]].
