Mob never aimed to be a hero, despite being an apprentice to one. He only wanted to make sure his quirk never hurt anyone ever again. However, an incident that occurs in his third year of middle school spurs him into action despite his wishes. Mob enters into UA academy, the top heroics school in all of Japan, and winds up with several new friends and much more trouble than he bargained for.

''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/12111294/chapters/27462717 Sure as the Setting Sun]]'' is a ''Webcomic/MobPsycho100''/''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' Fusion Fic written by bunnyscribe. Like the description says, after graduating from middle school, Kageyama Shigeo, or "Mob" as his friends call him, enters UA at the encouragement of his master Reigen.

Compare ''Fanfic/OneHundredPercentHero'' which follows a similar premise.

!!''Sure as the Setting Sun'' provides examples of:

* ActualPacifist: Mob, as per canon, ''tries'' to be this. Naturally, this leads to some problems considering the [[SuperheroSchool school]] he's attending.
* AdaptationalNameChange: The Spirits and Such Consultation Office is now named the ''Heroics'' Consultation Office.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: People who were Espers in canon have their powers here thanks to quirks. This means that while they have the power they specialized in (Mob with [[MindOverMatter telekinesis]] and Takenaka with MindReading), they are unable to learn other psychic abilities. Mob, while he still has his power controlled by his [[EmotionalPowers emotions]] and [[BarrierWarrior can make barriers]], [[PowerCopying can't copy other powers]].
* AdaptedOut: WordOfGod confirmed that Mob has replaced [[TheScrappy Mineta]] in the 1-A class roster.
* AlliterativeTitle: '''S'''ure as the '''S'''etting '''S'''un.
* ArmorPiercingResponse: When Bakugou confronts Mob after the cavalry battle, Mob delivers two in a row.
-->'''Bakugou:''' All this time, you've been looking down on me! Why won't you just take me seriously?
-->'''Mob:''' I am not looking down on you, I am looking at you like an equal, [[IJustWantToBeSpecial and that scares you]].
-->'''Bakugou:''' ''(Bakugou screams in a wordless fury, [[BerserkerTears the corners of his eyes clotting with angry tears]].)'' Shut up! Just shut up!
-->'''Mob:''' Bakugou, I want to be friends with you.
-->'''Bakugou:''' ''[[BreakThemByTalking (Bakugou stops as if someone had just hit the pause button on him. He makes a sound of something being stepped on, a couple of tears rolling down his cheeks.)]]''
** Mob ends up on the receiving end when Izuku gets frustrated over how he doesn't understand Izuku's motivations with hurting himself in order to pursue his dream of being a hero.
-->'''Izuku:''' [[spoiler: Just- Just get a clue Mob!]]
* AscendedExtra: [[CheshireCatGrin Sero]] becomes a closer friend at Mob and Izuku's social circle after Mob rescues him during the Entrance Exam.
** [[WordOfGod Bunnyscribe]] has stated that they have a soft spot for [[TheSmartGirl Momo]] who they believe is heavily underutilized in the canon story and intends to make her character more recognized in their fanfic.
* BloodKnight: Many hero hopefuls and teachers don't seem to understand that Mob doesn't like fighting at all, and just wants to use his power to help without hurting anyone. Thirteen actually seems confused when Mob asks if it's possible for someone to be a purely rescue-based hero, and Aizawa refutes this question, saying that no, one cannot be a purely rescue-based hero. To be fair, canon does make it clear that sometimes the events people need rescue from are the result of ongoing villain attacks, or have to deal with looters who try to take advantage of chaos, so they do have a point, but they aren't taking Mob's desires or wants into account.
* BothSidesHaveAPoint: During the Sports Festival, Mob is worried about the side affects of Izuku's quirk (namely, breaking his bones with every use), so he makes his friend promise that he won't use One For All in his first fight of the tournament. Izuku breaks this promise, along with a finger, and Mob confronts him on it. Mob also notes how Izuku and Todoroki are taking things too seriously and someone is going to get hurt, then goes as far as to suggest that Izuku should give up. Izuku bites back saying that he has a lot to prove and that Mob is trying to hold him back because of his own insecurities. On one hand, Mob has no right to keep his friend from doing anything less then his best, and has no clue what Izuku had to go though in his life whereas Mob is fairly privileged (Mob was born with an immensely powerful quirk whereas Izuku was born quirkless). Izuku is also right in pointing out that Mob doesn't know what he wants in life, and as such, can't see why someone like Izuku would put himself through the things he does. On the other hand, Mob is not in the wrong for being so concerned with his friend's health, and Izuku shouldn't make promises he isn't sure he can keep. Sero later adds to the point that Izuku hurting himself is ''entirely unnecessary,'' as Mob said, because there's no real stakes for the tournament- they have another two left for them before their time at UA is up. Additionally, Mob is right in that someone does get hurt in Izuku's fight with Todoroki, as by the end of it, Izuku ends up needing surgery.
** Reigen's conversation with Eraserhead. Reigen is concerned over how abrasive and difficult he's being as class 1-A's teacher when he should be more understanding towards their needs and helping them develop their quirks. He also disproves of how Eraserhead uses expulsion as an ongoing threat for their shortcomings. Aizawa counters by saying that most of the kids who enroll at UA have selfish desires for wanting to be heroes; his teaching methods are meant to be a reality check for them so they can fully understand how tough being a hero can be.
* BrainsAndBrawn: During the Calvary Battle, Izuku uses his quick thinking to organize his teammates while Mob uses his telekinesis to block any potential attackers. Todoroki even lampshades their dynamic as this while analyzing them.
* BrickJoke: After meeting Mob for the first time at the beach, Toshinori states that he and Izuku should come up with a cover story to keep 'One for All' a secret. Izuku suggests that Toshi be a former boxing coach with Izuku as his student. Later on, Toshinori takes on that cover story when meeting Reigen for the first time.
* BrokenAce: Mob is this. He has one of, if not '''the''' most powerful quirk of his generation, but suffers from PTSD from nearly killing his brother with it when they were younger, in addition to the trauma he got from dealing with Dimple and his LOL cult.
* CentralTheme: The main theme is the contrast between the messages of ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' and ''Webcomic/MobPsycho100'' and how they relate to being a hero. The former's message is about embracing one's talents/quirks and [[TrainingFromHell pushing yourself to the limits]] to achieve your true potential versus the latter's message about [[AGodIAmNot how one shouldn't define themselves by just their talents]] and should put more focus on being genuinely good people.
** The theme for the Sports Festival Arc is ''resolve''. As in what are the motivations for the protagonists and how it influences their dreams of becoming heroes.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Reigen isn't very thrilled when [[spoiler: Eraserhead shows up to violently apprehend the thug that was mugging Reigen. Especially considering that Reigen was close to talking the mugger into giving up]].
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Reigen's childhood was riddled with hardships as his classmates and teachers would give him a difficult time due to his impoverished lifestyle and quirkless nature.
* DemotedToExtra: In his source material, Dimple becomes a main character after his fight with Mob. Here, he never shows up again after Mob beats him in the first chapter.
** This trope also applies to most of the other characters from ''Webcomic/MobPsycho100''. {{Justified}} in that this takes place after Salt Middle School and the story follows Mob in UA.
* DeusExMachina: In this reality, Shigaraki and his cronies are beaten and cornered during their attack on USJ. The only reason they manage to escape is because [[spoiler: Mob ends up unleashing ''100% Anxiety'' after the stress of the attack which causes everyone and everything to float uncontrollably. This gives [[ThinkingUpPortals Kurogiri]] the opportunity to escape with his superior]].
* DidntSeeThatComing: Eraserhead confronts Mob before the Sports Festival, demanding to know why Mob wants to be a hero if Mob is unwilling to resort to violence. Since he's dealt with wannabe heroes for years who have usually passionate replies ranging from "Spite" to "To prove myself" to "To be the strongest," he's visibly knocked off his game by Mob's answer of "I don't know. I'm not even sure I want to be a hero."
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Mezato, a middle schooler, infiltrates a villain's cult without any plans to escape if things got bad. She was lucky Mob happened to be there.
** Implied to be the case with Aizawa's threat of expelling Mob. While he isn't wrong for thinking his [[{{Pacifist}} pacifism]] would make him unsuited for hero work, that doesn't change the fact that Mob still has a quirk he can't fully control and UA is the best place for him to tame it. WordOfGod says that Aizawa's reasoning for this is that his mindset makes him believe that if he isn't a hero or a villain, he simply won't use his quirk. [[spoiler: Considering [[SuperpoweredEvilSide ???%]] is still a factor, this is not the case, not to mention all the ''other'' times Mob has had to use his powers despite not being a hero or villain.]]
* TheDitherer: One of Mob's conflicts in the story is whether he wants to become a hero or not and where his morals and values lie.
* DramaticIrony: After watching the acceptance video with Mob, Ritsu thinks to himself that "nothing bad can happen" if [[BigGood All Might]] is around. Oh you sweet summer child...
* EatTheRich: {{Downplayed}}. Most of the citizens of the impoverished Spice City have negative feelings towards Hosu and UA as their utilities are more privileged and high end. Mob himself feels saddened that the money that went into UA's advanced technology could have instead gone to the poorer areas in his home city.
* EnergyAbsorption: [[WordOfGod Bunnyscribe]] has confirmed that when Mob [[spoiler: activates ???%]], he unintentionally absorbs the emotions of those around him which amplify his powers.
* FakeUltimateHero: In this reality, [[SmallNameBigEgo Reigen]] has built up a name for himself as ''Illusionist'', the Greatest Hero of Spice City. Considering the lack of hero activity in Spice City mixed with how he genuinely helps clients with their problems, it's hard to accept this as a total lie.
* {{Foil}}: Izuku and Mob. Both have powerful quirks and the potential to be the best in class, but where Mob holds back to the point of harming himself, Izuku keep pushing his limits til it breaks his body.
** Also their mentors, All Might and Reigen, serve as this to each other. Reigen is a [[PhonyPsychic fraudulent hero]] and is implied to be [[UnSorcerer quirkless]], but despite that, he is an experienced mentor from having Mob work under him for so long, usually knows the best thing to say to him, and discourages him from using his power when he can help it. All Might on the other hand, while born quirkless, won the SuperpowerLottery and is the [[TheAce #1 Hero in Japan]], however, he is inexperienced in teaching and encourages his pupil to break his limits even at the cost of his bones.
** Todoroki and Mob also count since they're both stoic boys who were gifted with extremely powerful quirks. The difference is that Todoroki isn't interested in improving his quirk and already wants to be a hero while Mob wants to keep his quirk under control and is still figuring out what he wants in life.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: In the quirk apprehension test, Mob never uses his power again after being told to use it for the ball throw. He just didn't think of using them as the tests where more or less the same as the ones he was put through in the Body Improvement Club.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Reigen has a huge soft spot for animals and finding lost pets is one of the many assignments he offers at the Heroics Consultation Office.
* GracefulLoser: The final round in the Tournament Arc ends with [[spoiler: Mob using his telekinesis to gently place Shouto outside of the ring. The latter is more than okay with this act]].
* GrailInTheGarbage: Mob's flip phone, which was given to him by Reigen for work, is one of the first All Might themed phones in existence. [[{{FanBoy}} Izuku]] is awestruck with it and feels saddened when he has to return it to Mob.
* HatesBeingTouched: Mob does '''not''' like it when people touch him. Only a select few people whom Mob feels comfortable with can touch him to a minor degree.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Mezato learns that Izuku's destructive quirk and his frequent injuries have given him a bad reputation among most of the hero job sites.
* InSeriesNickname: Mob itself is a nickname.
** Mob gets christened as "Bowl for Brains" by resident jerkhole Bakugou.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: While All Might's intentions as a mentor are noble, he encourages Izuku to push himself to the very limit with One for All even if it hurts him. Not to mention how All Might (unintentionally) puts alot of pressure on him being his successor for all the world to see.
* InternalReveal: While looking up articles and message boards regarding the 1-A kids, Mezato pieces together how Bakugou was Izuku's bully and tormentor throughout their childhood.
* IntrepidReporter: True to her talent, Mezato is setting up to be this as she intends to find an incredible story from UA that will get her into an accredited journalist club at her high school.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In his own violent way, Bakugou actually questions Mob on why he's at UA if he dislikes violence so much and doesn't have the same ambition as everyone else in becoming a hero. [[spoiler: This leads to Mob achieving ''100% Resolve'' and vowing to use his quirk to protect his friends]].
* LikesClarkKentHatesSuperman: {{Inverted}}. Despite his [[TheCynic cynicism]], Reigen is a huge All Might fan but dislikes Toshinori Yagi because he thinks he's unsuited to train Midoriya. [[NotSoDifferentRemark All Might thinks the same with him and Mob]].
* MirrorCharacter: Just like Izuku, Reigen was also born quirkless and learned the hard way that not everyone was born on equal level. They were also frequent targets for bullies.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Izuku gets this moment after [[spoiler: he yells at Mob who was only concerned for his health everytime he uses his quirk. His guilt continues to fester when the boy realizes that he has two more years to prove his worth and he shouldn't have to break himself on the first year]].
* MythologyGag: While following the canon timeline of ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'', SATSS uses references to plot events from ''Webcomic/MobPsycho100''.
** Tsubomi turning down Mob's love confession happens at the start of the story rather than at the end.
** When Izuku calls Reigen "weird" after meeting him for the first time, Mob responds with "he's [Reigen] a good person".
** Chapter 8 contains reference to the Teruki Arc as [[spoiler: Mob unleashes both ???% and an explosion of emotion after the trauma of the villains' raid becomes too much for him]].
*** In an earlier scene, Mob's [[spoiler: [[AddedAlliterativeAppeal battle against a blazing baddie by bubbling him up and burning him like a baneful barbecue]]]] is similar to how Teruki won one of his fights against the Scar bosses.
** Just like in canon, Mob has difficulties when it comes to public speaking. At least he manages to get out a solid few words during the Sports Festival.
** After Mob's brutal fight with [[spoiler: Hitoshi during the Sports Festival]], Reigen assures him that he can quit if he doesn't feel comfortable anymore. This is a potential reference to how he told Mob that "it's okay to run away" during the Claw Arc.
** Every now and then, Reigen reminds Mob of how much he's grown and how proud he is of his pupil.
* NeverMyFault: Bakugou refuses to accept accountability on his own end and would rather blame his failings on ''worthless Deku'' and his stupid sidekick ''Bowl for Brains''.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: During the USJ Attack, [[spoiler: Shigaraki, Kurogiri and their minions are quickly apprehended by the heroes while the Nomu ends up being beaten out of the area. Unfortunately, Mob ends up unleashing ''100% Anxiety'' after all the trauma he's endured during the day which causes everyone to float around uncontrollably. This gives the main villains the perfect opportunity to escape]].
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: The climax of the USJ Attack features [[spoiler: Mob dipping down into ???% and unleashing a '''brutal''' beatdown on the violence happy Nomu]].
* NoHuggingNoKissing: [[WordOfGod Bunnyscribe]] has admitted that they don't intend to create any romantic plotlines for any of the characters. The most that they'll write for this story will be a [[spoiler: queerplatonic relationship]].
* NoSell: Dimple's powers of affecting emotion have no effect on Mob.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: When meeting Toshinori, Reigen says that he heard from Mob that a refrigerator was about to fall on Izuku during his training. While Izuku wasn't as helpless in the situation, Mob's translation of the scene does make Toshi come off as negligent.
* PapaWolf: In Chapter 15, when a client provokes Mob [[spoiler: after learning that he was the winner of the UA Sports' Festival]], Reigen forces the client to leave the boy alone and ends his deal with him.
* ProductPlacement: InUniverse. Reigen gives Mob's hero costume a pink belt that matches his tie. He does this so he can promote the Heroics Consultation Office when Mob is on hero duty.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Mob suggests to Takenaka that he speak to his master about the law since [[LovableRogue Reigen]] is ''very'' familiar with the law.
* TheShrink: Takenaka is interested in pursuing a career as a psychiatrist. Although he finds that his mind reading quirk will give him legal trouble along the way.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: [[LoveInterest Tsubomi]] is only featured in the first chapter but her parting words of encouraging Mob to discover what he wants in life sticks to him for the rest of the story.
* ShoutOut: While Reigen is talking with a client, Mob is on the side reading a ''Webcomic/OnePunchMan'' manga.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: {{PlayedWith}}. The story takes place in the ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' universe yet [[Webcomic/MobPsycho100 Mob]] is considered the new main protagonist. Izuku is still a main character only now he can be considered the secondary protagonist.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: Tenya and Sero fill this dynamic whenever they're paired together in Mob and Izuku's friend circle.
* SuicidalPacifist: During the attack on USJ, Mob hesitates to use his power on the villains as he doesn't want to hurt them. Ojiro quickly talks him out of it.
* TookALevelInBadass: Due to the nature of quirks, Ritsu gains his power at a younger age here then in canon.
** In the 20 years since his first time being mugged as a child, [[BadassNormal Reigen]] is mentally prepared and capable of handling himself against low level criminals.
** Midoriya went from quirkless punching bag to someone with an above average quirk with enough confidence to yell at someone on live television. People from his school other then Bakugou have noticed, and even talked about it online.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Ochako and Tsuyu are the main girls that are part of Mob and Izuku's social circle.
* UnskilledButStrong: According to WordOfGod, Mob's stats show that his power is [[BeyondTheImpossible 6/5]], but his technique is 2/5. This is without even taking into account Mob at 100% [[spoiler: or ???%]].
* UrbanHellscape: Spice City has become this in the story. After years of rising crime waves and destruction, the city was forced to declare bankruptcy and pour their remaining funds onto police forces to protect themselves. Without the proper finances to hire heroes, the city has become a cesspool for crime and ruin.
* UrbanSegregation: Additionally, Mob often takes notice of how wealthy and well off the facilities of UA are in contrast to the schools and businesses at Spice City which are recognized as being in poor condition.
* WeakButSkilled: Reigen. He's Quirkless, but he still openly calls himself a hero. He specializes in talking people down and helping them solve problems without getting into a fight, as shown when he de-escalates and ultimately talks down a mugger... [[spoiler: right before Eraserhead ramps things back up by attacking the mugger, only for Reigen to talk things down again, understand where the kid was coming from, and offering him a job]]. In many ways, he's basically a con man who has a desire to help people.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Bakugou does this to [[spoiler: Mob after his powers allow the villains to escape during the climax of the USJ attack]].
** After Izuku's fight with Todoroki ends with Izuku needing surgery, Recovery Girl calls out Yagi, saying if he doesn't want this to keep happening, he shouldn't praise him for this.
** Sero calls out Izuku's self-destructive tendencies on the basis that no, this is ''not'' the only time he'll have to show off his stuff in a tournament, this same event will repeat next year and the year after. So acting like this is his only chance to show the world what he can do is selfish of him, when he keeps taking his anxiety out on his friends.
* WhamLine: Eraserhead's question to Reigen counts as this, as it heavily implies that [[spoiler: Reigen is about to get involved with [[HeroKiller Stain]].]]
-->'''Eraserhead:''' [[spoiler: Why are you in Hosu?]]
* YouMonster: Dimple calls Mob a monster after he foils his cult scheme with his telekinetic quirk. Mob's response?
-->'''Mob:''' I know. I'm the worst.
