''Sonic Forces: Resistance is Magic'' is part of an ongoing ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' and ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' {{Crossover}} FanFiction created by [[https://www.fimfiction.net/user/270789/MetalJrock2299 MetalJrock2299]] and so far contains two stories:

[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/374273/the-blue-blur The first story/prologue]], ''The Blue Blur'' details Team Sonic's encounter with the Elements of Harmony in Equestria as they team up to stop Dr. Eggman.

[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/375793/sonic-forces-resistance-is-magic Sonic Forces: Resistance is Magic]] is the second/main and current story in the series, acting as an AdaptationExpansion of [[VideoGame/SonicForces Sonic Forces]] as well with the Mane 6 and Spike joining the battle.

In ''Resistance is Magic'', the beginning of ''Sonic Forces'' starts off as normal: Sonic the Hedgehog loses his fight against the Eggman Empire. However, there was one notable change: the presence of Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, and Starlight Glimmer.

Around the same time in the land of Equestria, the Mane 6 and Spike received a summoning from the Cutie Map, but are whisked away into a mysterious purple vortex and arrive in Sonic's world six months after that day.

Once there, the Mane 6 agree to aid the Resistance in their efforts against the Eggman Empire while Spike joins forces with Tails and a [[VideoGame/SonicMania Sonic from another dimension]]. Together they must liberate the world from the Eggman Empire, and the Equestrians will face their toughest challenge yet.

!!''Resistance is Magic'' contains examples of the following tropes:
* AdaptationalBadass:
** Though they were never pushovers, the Mane 6 join the efforts of actual warfare with the Resistance and are also lending a hoof in combat.
** Tails. Here, he displays his usual genius as well as being capable of fighting when the time calls for it. He was also fighting alongside Sonic before he was defeated and held captive by the BigBadEnsemble. [[spoiler: He even helps Sonic take down Shadow]].
** Spike as well, being separate from his Equestrian friends. He's even learned how to Spin Jump with his scales acting as "spikes".
** The same applies to Chaos, who actually gives Classic Sonic, Spike and Tails trouble.
** [[spoiler: Infinite, prior to his transformation, was able to hold his own against Shadow as the Ultimate Mercenary]]
* AdaptationExpansion: Despite sharing the same basic story as Sonic Forces, Resistance is Magic expands on certain plot elements while adding the ponies as characters.
** Chaos is fought in Ghost Town, not having a fight in the original game.
** Sombra is fought in Arsenal Pyramid.
** Tails, Spike and Classic Sonic fight Metal Sonic in [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 Oil Ocean]], a level nor encounter seen in the original game.
** Seaside Hill, which is only mentioned in Forces, gets a whole chapter dedicated to it. [[spoiler: Shadow is fought here by Rainbow Dash and Rouge.]]
** Sonic and Tails fight Shadow in Sunset Heights.
** Prison Island and Flickies' Island are used for a chapter.
** Starlight Glimmer is fought in Chemical Plant.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange:
** Classic Sonic has more of Sonic's traditional mascot with an attitude here.
** The same applies to Buddy, as his thoughts are expressed during his adventures.
** [[spoiler: In this incarnation, Shadow under Infinite's control is reverted back to his old revenge driven persona]]
* AlternateSelf: Classic Sonic to Modern Sonic. Although it isn't in the first time they've co-existed.
* AlternateTimeline: Classic Sonic is theorized to be from one by Tails as a result of when [[VideoGame/SonicGenerations they last crossed paths]] and just worded it as him being from another dimension. Spike takes the explanation in stride.
* AngstWhatAngst: {{Invoked}}. When questioned on him acting his usual self when rescued, Sonic points out that his "torture" amounted to being bored and eating stale chili dogs and that he'd never give Eggman the satisfaction of breaking him physically or mentally.
* AnotherDimension:
** Both Classic Sonic's world and Equestria fit this.
** [[spoiler: The Mushroom Kingdom, Earth 20XX, and Hyrule are acknowledged.]]
* ArtifactOfDoom: The Phantom Ruby Prototypes, which gives Infinite his powers. Classic Sonic seemingly knows of the Phantom Ruby from his last adventure.
* AscendedFanboy: InUniverse, Buddy the Wolf idolizes Sonic the Hedgehog and his heroic feats and is in awe upon being entrusted to be at his side and being referred to as his partner.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: Tails tells Classic Sonic and Spike to attack Chaos' brain, having the most experience fighting him.
* BadassAdorable: Classic Sonic may be small and chubby compared to his Modern counterpart, but just like him he isn't afraid to rush into a fight.
* BadassBookworm: Twilight and Tails of course.
* BashBrothers:
** Tails, Spike, and Classic Sonic.
** Modern Sonic and Tails [[spoiler: against Shadow]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: The normally timid Fluttershy is willing to stand up to Infinite if it means helping her friends.
* BigBad: Dr. Eggman.
* BigBadEnsemble: Dr. Eggman, Infinite, Chaos, Zavok, Shadow, Chrysalis, Sombra and Starlight Glimmer conquer Mobius in the six months Sonic was held captive.
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** Upon hearing Sombra threaten Tails (who he hasn't seen in six months), Sonic's usual cocky attitude breaks for a moment, warning him and the other villains to not so much as touch him. Sombra comments on his mood shift.
** A female variant, Twilight panics upon realizing Spike wasn't with her and the girls. Rainbow assures her that he should be safe in Equestria which calms her down, them unaware that he's also on Mobius with Tails and Classic Sonic.
** Gemerl has traits of this relating to Cream.
* BigBrotherMentor:
** As an inverse to their usual dynamic, Tails is the one guiding Classic Sonic in light of his new situation. He also acts as this to Spike.
** Modern Sonic to Tails as usual.
** Twilight to Spike.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Pinkie and Charmy get along well due to their equally goofy personalities. Vector even says it feels like there are two Charmys.
* BlackMagic: Sombra is known for this.
* BloodKnight:
** Sonic as usual but also Rainbow Dash, who is pretty eager to smash any robot she comes across.
** Infinite and Eggman are ruthless in their conquest.
** Shadow was ready to kill Eggman and would've succeeded had Twilight and Rouge not stopped him.
** Chrysalis, still enraged by her previous defeats, is willing to kill the Equestrian heroes for getting in her way.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy:
** [[spoiler: Shadow is revealed to be this, having his perception of reality changed by Infinite and his Phantom Ruby to be his old revenge-driven self again.]]
** [[spoiler: Starlight Glimmer is also revealed to be this.]]
** [[spoiler: Chrysalis attempts this with Shadow by using his love for Maria against the heroes, but it only lasts for a few seconds.]]
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Pinkie does this when naming Classic Sonic, citing the readers as a reason to name him.
* CasinoPark: Knuckles explains that Eggman turned Mystic Jungle into this, something Sonic is familiar with. Rarity can only claim that it reminds her of Las Pegasus.
** Tails, Classic Sonic and Spike find themselves in the Casino Forest itself.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint:
** Pinkie believes the Death Egg is haunted when she hears muffled voices. It was actually due to Eggman holding prisoners.
** She does this again when Espio utters the phrase, 'small fries.' She literally believed he was talking about food.
* CompositeCharacter:
** Silver has traits of his Archie comics counterpart along with his game self.
** Amy displays traits of her IDW comics counterpart, not letting her crush on Sonic cloud her judgement and whatever task is at hand.
** Gemerl is inspired by his Archie Comics counterpart, who was based off of Shard, another fellow reprogrammed robot.
* ContinuityNod: From both franchises [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ContinuityNod/SonicForcesResistanceIsMagic seen here]].
* CowardlyLion: Buddy shows signs of this during the fight with Sombra, letting his fear be visibly shown. However, he works past it to land a major blow against Sombra.
** Buddy and Fluttershy display this when fighting Infinite.
* CrazyPrepared: Eggman adding a buzzsaw to his mobile was done in order to anticipate Sonic's techniques.
** [[spoiler: It's revealed that Modern Eggman knew of the Phantom Ruby all along and went to Equestria to gain energy from the Elements of Harmony to bring it to his world because he knew Team Sonic would foil his plan and take back the Chaos Emeralds.]]
* CrisisCrossover: Much like the original game, except the Mane 6 and Spike are with the Resistance and Sombra, Starlight and Chrysalis are on the Eggman Empire.
* CrocodileTears: Starlight invokes this to lower Spike's guard. It works.
* CurbStompBattle:
** As in the original game, Sonic loses to the BigBadEnsemble without barely touching them. Same for Tails as he was helping Sonic.
** [[spoiler: Shadow delivers this to Rouge and Rainbow Dash, barely breaking a sweat.]]
** [[spoiler: Shadow again delivers one to Vector, Charmy, Silver, Rarity and Pinkie Pie.]]
* DarkIsEvil: Infinite, Sombra and Shadow are black and red and both on Eggman's side of the war.
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[spoiler: With his brainwashing gone, Shadow is back on the side of good and joined the Resistance.]]
* DeadpanSnarker:
** Sonic and Rainbow Dash.
** Tails and Spike have their moments too.
* DramaQueen: Rarity as usual. She has Sonic stop running so she could fix her mane when it got messed up in the wind on the way to Mystic Jungle.
* TheDragon: Infinite to Eggman seemingly, following the doctor's orders perfectly fine without a hint of malice.
* TheDreaded: Infinite, gaining the reputation of defeating Sonic in combat.
* TheEmpire: The Eggman Empire are this.
* EternalEngine: The Death Egg, Chemical Plant and Arsenal Pyramid.
* EurekaMoment: Twilight notices a flaw in Infinite's choice of wording which causes her to deduce that Sonic was alive.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Before his transformation, [[spoiler: the Ultimate Mercenary genuinely considered the Jackal Squad his family and was distraught upon finding out Shadow killed them. Their deaths were what drove him to allow Eggman to experiment on him.]]
* EvilKnockoff: Metal Sonic to Sonic.
* EvilSorceror: King Sombra is proficient with offensive spells.
* FaceHeelTurn: Shadow and Starlight Glimmer, much to the surprise of the heroes.
* FailureHero:
** Silver begins to view himself as this due to the various mishaps that have effected his timeline and his inability to stop them. Fortunately, Rarity and Applejack convince him otherwise.
** Tails believed himself to be a disappointment after Sonic's defeat, but Spike convinced him otherwise.
* ForTheEvulz: When Twilight questions Infinite's motives, he replies with this:
-->'''Infinite''':"I want to show you all just how weak you truly are. And that starts by crushing any fraction of hope you wield."
* FreudianSlip: When Infinite first meets the Mane 6, he tells them Sonic is dead. However, before he leaves, he utters the line, 'like he's doing with the hedgehog'. This lets Twilight figure out Sonic is still alive.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Sonic jokingly suggests to take Zavok out for coffee and chili dogs to make up for beating him.
* GreenHillZone: The TropeNamer appears and is not only covered in sand and weapons factories, but it's also [[spoiler:where Sombra enslaved the inhabitants to work in said factories, citing it as his Green Hill Empire.]]
* GuiltComplex: Tails considers himself a failure of a friend after Sonic "died" and set out on his own. It wasn't until he talked to Spike where he decides to let him and Classic stay to help him.
* HammerSpace: Pinkie summons an anvil out of nowhere during the city battle, much to Espio's disbelief. In fact, she seems to be a master of using this in general.
* HeroicBSOD: Twilight gets one during the fight with Infinite after he attacks her with his cubes and she realizes her magic doesn't work. [[spoiler: It doesn't seem to have worn off as she starts to suffer from nightmares in the aftermath.]]
* HeroicWillpower: Sonic refused to give Eggman the satisfaction of breaking him mentally after being held prisoner for six months.
* HeroicMime: Classic Sonic and Buddy don't speak. Tails is able to have conversations with Classic though, much to Spike' confusion.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: During the fight in Oil Ocean, Metal Sonic unleashes Silver Sonic robots. This allows Classic Sonic, Tails and Spike to use them in order to damage him.
* HumbleHero: Buddy doesn't accept the people of the city's praise of him being a hero. He just feels like he's doing what's right.
* HopeBringer: Sonic for the Resistance, and in turn, the planet.
* HopeCrusher: By contrast, Infinite is this to the planet.
** He also wishes to be this to Equestria.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight:
** Rouge tries to reason [[spoiler:with Shadow during the Seaside hill, to no avail.]]
** Sonic tries to do this with Shadow as well. No luck there too.
** [[spoiler: Spike does this with Starlight Glimmer, and to his surprise, it works.]]
* ILetGwenStacyDie: Tails' main motivation for parting ways with the Resistance is because he believes he failed to help Sonic, not also wanting to let them down with his presence.
* InSeriesNickname: Pinkie suggests Classic Sonic being called that by name.
* LaResistance: Sonic's friends have formed one in his absence to liberate Mobius from the Eggman Empire. The Equestrians later join.
* LeeroyJenkins: Classic Sonic has a habit of jumping into action without thinking, much to Tails' chagrin.
* TheLoad: Eggman accuses Tails and Spike of being this for their friends in an attempt to break their will. It doesn't work as the two of them know better and won't have any of his lies.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Buddy doesn't just stick to one Wispon. He uses a variety during his time with the Resistance.
* MythologyGag: Pinkie suggesting the names Modern and Classic for the two Sonics, referencing how they are called in the series.
* NamedByTheAdaptation:
** The custom hero is known as Buddy here.
** The two Sonics are called Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic by Pinkie Pie as a way to help distinguish them once they reunite. Everyone including the Sonics agree to do this.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Because of Knuckles' hasty decision to attack Metropolis, most of the Resistance soldiers were either wiped out or taken prisoner to be roboticized.
* NoSell: Infinite to Fluttershy after she used "The Stare" on him.
* NotAGame:
** Pinkie and Charmy are reminded of this in the city by their friends regarding the war.
** Applejack notes this to Rainbow Dash when she readily agrees to Knuckles' Metropolis plan.
** Twilight questions Rainbow Dash on how she can find enjoyment from the thrill of fighting their enemies during a war.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: Eggman showcases this by referring to his classic self as being too weak-minded.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: When Sombra threatens to hurt Tails, Sonic briefly snaps.
** Classic Sonic in Green Hill and Chemical Plant. He tries to hide his concerns though.
** Twilight nearly gets into an argument with her friends on the topic of her visions, which she tries to keep to herself.
* PluckyComicRelief:
** Pinkie Pie, bringing some levity to the Resistance.
** Charmy as well, being the most optimistic among Sonic's friends.
* POWCamp: Eggman turns Green Hill into this.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Eggman had Infinite bring the Mane 6 and Spike to Sonic's world in order to get revenge on them for playing a part in foiling his scheme. However, he didn't think that they would join the Resistance and give a helping hand in fighting his army so quickly.
* TheRival: Shadow wishes to reignite his old rivalry with Sonic.
* ShapeshifterGuiltTrip: [[spoiler:Queen Chrysalis takes the form of [[PosthumousCharacter Maria]] [[TheLostLenore Robotnik]] to mess with Shadow's emotions. Stopping him from finishing her off]].
* ShoutOut:
** Rarity complaining that she dislikes sand, citing it as "coarse and rough", is a reference to the identical line uttered by Anakin Skywalker in ''Film/AttackOfTheClones''.
** [[spoiler: [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros The Mushroom Kingdom]], [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Earth 20XX]], and [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Hyrule]] are among worlds Eggman plans to conquer once he's through with Mobius and Equestria]].
* SkewedPriorities: During a mission in the Mystic Jungle, Rarity insists that Sonic and Applejack stop to give her time to fix her mane. [[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe Much to their annoyance]].
* SpiderSense: Pinkie accurately predicts the incoming lasers when Sonic, Buddy and Rainbow Dash fall through Arsenal's Pyramid's entrance.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Spike is currently learning how to use the Spin Jump like Sonic and Tails. He's a fast learner.
** Fluttershy's first mission in the frontlines has her confront Infinite along with Buddy.
* UrbanRuins:
** The City on South Island, constantly being terrorized by Death Egg Robots. Classic Sonic and Spike are appalled by this.
** Spagonia, while dealing with less in comparison, is still in a state of needed reparation.
* TheVoiceLess: As in the game, Buddy doesn't speak at all along with Classic Sonic. However, they do both get narratives from their point of view, which allows readers to understand their thoughts and feelings on the whole conflict.
* WhatTheHellHero: Sonic delivers this to Knuckles upon learning about the attack on Metropolis in his absence.
* WithAFriendAndAStranger:
** Classic Sonic, Tails and Spike act as this since they are working independent from the Resistance.
** Sonic, Rainbow Dash, and Buddy in Arsenal Pyramid and the Red Gate Bridge.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** Tails invokes this to Spike when the latter doubts he can do a Spin-Jump. Due to this, he manages to pull through. He does it again when Spike wonders if Twilight views him as a burden.
