Considering Neji is there to assassinate Naruto, it's made clear this isn't his first assignment and he comes close to killing Naruto, the previous conflict between Naruto and Kenichi fighting Ragnarok seems childish in comparison.

Later in the story, after Ragnarok is dissolved and Yami and Konoha enter the conflict, Naruto and Shikamaru note that they can't afford to sit back like before since their current opponents are aiming to kill them and they'd rather set the pace this time since they're fighting a war on three fronts. At first all the other members of the Shade Alliance are hesitant to agree but after Sasuke blows up their HQ and injures Siegfried, they agree to change their strategy.
