'' Frozen Turtles'' and its sequels by Creator/{{Iron117Prime}} are a crossover SeriesFic between ''Franchise/{{Frozen}}'' and [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012 the 2012 version]] of the Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles. Notably, ''Frozen Turtles'' is [=Iron117Prime=]'s first fanfic ever published, and many of the tropes and plot beats of his later work originate here.

Starting when a malfunction in the Kraang's latest dimensional portal sends the Turtles to Arendelle, the series goes on to explore how the Turtles meet and befriend the royal family. The two sides join forces to oppose the Shredder's invasion of Arendelle, with further adventures seeing the royals travel to New York in time to assist the Turtles in their quest for the black hole generator, and the two sides subsequently come together for the trip to Northuldra and to face the final New York gang war.

----
!!''Frozen Turtles'' contains examples of:
* AchievementsInIgnorance: In ''Frozen Turtle Fever'', [[spoiler:Elsa unwittingly prevents a Kraang invasion of Arendelle when she blows the horn and sends a massive snowball through a portal the Kraang had just opened, striking their main computer and triggering the self-destruct before the Kraang can mount their invasion]].
* ActionDuo: Elsa and Leonardo are consistently paired together initially, but with an interesting dynamic. Elsa is the "ordinary guy" part of the two, in that despite having powers, she's clearly not aware of how to utilize them for combat. In contrast, Leonardo is a swordsman but has more combat prowess than the Ice Queen. This dynamic is subverted once Elsa learns how to utilize her powers for proper combat in no part due to the guidance of the Turtles and Master Splinter.
* AdaptationExpansion: The Space arc gets an original chapter that features a group of renegade Triceratons who defected from the Empire. Later in ''Earth's Last Stand'', the final battle against the Triceratons is expanded, [[spoiler:with a massive Triceraton army numbering at least a thousand including Emperor Zanmoran and Mozar against the heroes and their allies (Utroms, renegade Triceratons, Salamandrians, Queen Hiidrala and her Daagon warriors, Aeons, Punk Frogs, Bigfoot and The Finger, Dr. Cluckingsworth M.D., Arendelle soldiers, Trolls, Renet, Marshmallow, and the Mighty Mutanimals)]].
* AdaptationalBadass:
** A villainous example of this occurs when the Duke of Weselton is exposed to mutagen and becomes a part-scorpion mutant.
** For a heroic example, Elsa gains good combat knowledge thanks to Splinter and the Turtles, and further training with the Fugitoid and time on the icy moon on Thalos 3 lets her animate ice to create ice wings for flight and even create ice dragons as minions.
** Want another villainous example? [[spoiler: Super Shredder. Alongside the mutagen, Stockman also mixes in some of Elsa's blood into him, letting him control black-colored ice (later revealed to be frozen metal), and given that he is armed with much more combat knowledge and experience than Elsa, it makes him much more dangerous. He can also create icy soldiers to do his bidding and in contrast to Elsa using a Western dragon, he uses an Eastern dragon]].
* AdaptationalHeroism: Downplayed when it comes to Karai, in that though she debuts in the series already good, the story takes place sometime after the events in the original series where she does initially start evil.
* AdaptationalVillainy: The Shredder becomes much worse by the end of the story as even at his worst, the canon [[spoiler: Super]] Shredder [[spoiler: still only focuses on killing Hamato Yoshi and his family]], but here, [[spoiler: the Reaper Shredder becomes an OmnicidalManiac, outright stating anyone who crosses his path, ''regardless'' of them not being affiliated with Hamato Yoshi, will be exterminated]].
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Elsa's magic isn't 'merely' ice-based, it's [[spoiler: quintessence magic manifesting itself in the form of ice and snow]], explaining why she would be able to hold such a huge influence over the lifeforce of other beings by f.e. creating them in the first place or affecting their very existential being.
* AdaptationSpeciesChange:
** From a certain perspective, this occurs in ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' [[spoiler: when Sven becomes a humanoid entity after exposure to mutagen]].
** Downplayed with the Earth Spirit in ''Into the Unknown''; rather than the spirit being the rock giants, here the spirit is a singular entity that just manifests through the rock giants but has a singular form on its own.
** The Fifth Spirit, [[spoiler: here being depicted as a separate entity who can merge with Elsa]], isn't a supernatural being of ice, but of quintessence.
* AllYourPowersCombined: When [[spoiler:Elsa is exposed to the mutagen, it requires Grand Pabbie, Splinter, and Leonardo to work together to heal her before the mutagen causes her to explode]].
* AndThenWhat: [[spoiler:Fishface asks this before the final battle of ''Into the Unknown'' as he comes to realize Shredder's plans have been reduced to mindless destruction. They don't have time to think up an answer before the fighting starts.]]
* ArbitrarySkepticism: In ''Into the Unknown'', the Rat King and Fishface in particular express doubt about the idea of a genuinely enchanted forest even after working with aliens and mutants.
* AnArmAndALeg:
** In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Shredder severs Splinter's right arm during their final battle, although Splinter is still able to deliver a few good blows before Shredder finally kills him]].
** From the same fic, [[spoiler:Tiger Claw loses his arm, just like in canon]].
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: [[spoiler: An assassin utilizes snake venom in an attempt to kill Elsa, and when the Turtles foil the attempt, the snake venom is deduced to hail from the blue krait. The blue krait hails from Southeast Asia, contradicting the supposed setting of ''Frozen'' (Norway). There could be some ground to this in that the killer is a mercenary who would've traveled the world for effective killing options, though it would be somewhat confusing given that Scandinavian colonialism was a thing although there have been no records of claims in the Southeast Asian region.]]
* AssholeVictim: The only reason anyone might regret the Duke of Weselton’s mutation is that it made him a greater threat, and nobody is particularly sorry after [[spoiler:the villainous Hans is killed by Shredder]].
* AttackItsWeakPoint: In the final battle against [[spoiler:Shredder, Elsa realizes that he still has a heart even in his current state, which gives them a target to focus on to kill him]].
* BadBadActing: In ''Into the Unknown'', Michelangelo joins Olaf in their exaggerated explanation of their past history when talking to the Northuldran residents.
* BadassCrew: The Shredder’s forces might argue, but they are a formidable group of adversaries.
* BadassFamily: The combination of the Turtles’ martial arts skills and Elsa’s ice powers make them a formidable fighting force.
* BadassNormal: In a world where superpowers are common, the Shredder is able to hold his own without them against [[spoiler:the Turtles, Karai, Elsa, and Anna all at once, although he is eventually defeated]].
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Applies to the encounter with the Wyrm as in canon, [[spoiler:save that Olaf is the one who becomes smart rather than Casey]].
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: [[spoiler:Finally subverted with Shredder by the end of ''Into the Unknown'' when he's finally forced to admit all the bad things in his life were of his own doing. But at this point, he's too far around the bend to care.]]
* BerserkButton:
** As in the original show, Leatherhead goes berserk when anyone so much as mentions the Kraang, much to Anna’s regret when she unwittingly provokes it.
** In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:April becomes increasingly protective of her Aeon crystal even as it's shown to be bad for anything else]].
*** After [[spoiler:Shredder's transformation, Karai loses her temper when he admits to his role in Tang Shen's death without regret]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: When Elsa is pushed to her limit, [[spoiler:she freezes an entire ''planet'' in eternal winter]].
* BigBadWannabe: Basically applies to Hans; he’s ruthless and ambitious, but compared to the Shredder he’s a rank amateur at best, and [[spoiler:is swiftly taken down when his attempts to inspire a revolt prove to be a failure]].
* BigNo:
** When Michelangelo learns there's no pizza in Arendelle, he [[SkywardScream shouts this into the sky]].
** As in canon, [[spoiler:the heroes have this when they witness Splinter’s death and the activation of the Black Hole Generator]].
* BirdsOfAFeather:
** Michelangelo and Olaf end up bonding due to their similarly childish nature, with ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' [[spoiler:presenting Olaf being fairly skilled when in Dimension X, much like Michelangelo was in his own time there]].
** Naturally, Olaf also hits it off with the equally childishly-minded Pigeon Pete.
* BishonenLine:
** The Foot Clan's ranks clearly mark this out. At the low ranks are the ones who clearly look and act more monstrously than the rest of the group, such as Rahzar and Fishface. Though Stockman-fly isn't exactly combat-capable, he makes up for this with good intellect. Then there's Tiger Claw, and while he is still a mutant, he's far from the most monstrous of them and is the Shredder's direct second-in-command. The very top has Shredder in all his glory; a human being and TheDreaded amongst the Turtles and Arendelle's royals.
** Shredder's final mutation [[spoiler:after his trial at Ahtohallan is almost identical to his original human form, save for being made entirely out of his of black ice]].
* BittersweetEnding: The end of ''Into The Unknown.'' [[spoiler:Splinter is dead, some of Shredder's top goons are still out there and it's implied an EvilPowerVacuum will emerge with the Foot gone. On the upside, Anna and Kristoff are engaged with Leo and Elsa implied to be considering it, Anna is set to become the new queen while Elsa works on settling peace between the worlds, and Karai plans to rebuild the Foot into a force for good and everyone is ready to tackle what comes next.]]
* BlindedByTheLight: The final fight between [[spoiler:the Turtles, Karai, Elsa, and Anna against the Shredder in Arendelle ends when Elsa creates an ice wall that reflects the rising sun into Shredder’s eyes, distracting him just long enough for the heroes to overpower him]].
* BondCreatures: In ''Into the Unknown'', the five spirits are presented as this; [[spoiler:Leo tames Gale, Raph calms Bruni, Mikey hits it off with Neptune, Donnie connects with Fuji, and Splinter senses a connection between Elsa and the fifth spirit]].
* BorrowedCatchphrase: In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler:as the Turtles and their allies prepare for the final confrontation with the Triceratrons, Elsa states "Booyakasha" to declare the start of the battle]].
* BoundAndGagged:
** Elsa when captured by the Foot in ''Frozen Turtles''.
** Both Elsa and April at the hands of the Kraang in ''In Space''.
* TheBusCameBack: April O’Neill and Casey Jones return to the fold in ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' after being absent from the original fic.
* TheCameo: This happens with the three Creators of Chaos. Just as in canon, the [[WesternAnimation/SuperRobotMonkeyTeamHyperforceGo Wigglenog]] is one of them, but the third one, unlike canon, is [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Discord]].
* CaptainObvious: In ''Into the Unknown'', when [[spoiler:Tiger Claw notes that Northuldra is no ordinary forest, Fishface points out that the magic wall that stops them leaving already made that clear]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Olaf, to the point that he goes through a battle waving at the Kraang and giving each one names (albeit just numbers, but he at least believes he can tell them apart).
* TheCloudcuckoolanderWasRight: As in the ''Frozen'' canon, Olaf's statement that water has memory is confirmed to be accurate.
* CombatPragmatist: By the time of ''Into the Unknown'', Elsa has developed enough combat experience to be considered this, such as catching Shinigami off-guard by freezing the ground around her before the witch can hypnotize her so that she'll slip during a subsequent attack.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: In ''Into the Unknown'', Olaf assumes that the Northuldan people and Arendelle soldiers they encounter are shocked that he isn't wearing clothes rather than realrealizingt they're shocked that he exists in the first place. Later, when Rahzar threatens to eat his and Mikey's bones, Olaf simply points out that he doesn't have bones rather than respond to the original threat.
* CompositeCharacter: [[spoiler: Hans kickstarts two antagonist-specific trends that would later become a staple of many [=Iron117Prime=] fanfics to come: one would be the hard-to-beat villain in that series' canon who is on the receiving end of a CurbStompBattle by newly arrived heroes [[note]]although later fanfics tend to utilize a female character instead[[/note]] and the other is the lesser villain who dies to an EvilerThanThou one at the story's midpoint.]]
* ContinuitySnarl: To a degree; the first story is set for the turtles in a time period where Karai has overcome her brainwashing and sided with the Turtles in full while Shredder and the other mutants are an active threat, a scenario that never happened exactly before the black hole generator.
* TheCorrupter: Shredder plans to be this [[spoiler:for Elsa, but the Turtles rescue her before Shredder can do more than talk about how he will force Elsa to be his weapon]].
* CripplingOverspecialization: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Falco attempts to get around his 'limitations' in his focus on rats by assisting in experiments to create insect/rat mutant hybrids that he can control]].
* CrossoverComboVillain: [[spoiler: Shredder is effectively this by ''Into the Unknown'', gaining ice powers enough to fight Elsa and the Turtles at a combined ground.]]
* CrossoverCouple: [[spoiler: By ''Frozen Turtles In Space'', both Elsa and Leonardo have become an item of sorts.]]
* CrossoverVillainInChief: The Shredder proves himself as the more formidable villain of the series, outright [[spoiler: killing Hans (having also terrified him)]] and growing obsessed with obtaining Elsa's power.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:
** Regardless of the Turtles’ making it clear that Anna doesn’t seem to stand a chance in a fight with their enemies or sneaking past them, [[spoiler:when she's actually on a mission to save her sister, she manages to incapacitate Bebop and trick Rocksteady into knocking himself out by provoking him to charge into a statue, and is able to sneak around their enemies' bases just as well as the Turtles]].
** Calling Olaf ‘badass’ might be an exaggeration, but ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' [[spoiler:gives him a chance to fight back when his head proves to be compatible with Kraang androids]].
* CultureClash: As in canon, Leo unwittingly provokes a fight with the Salamanders by holding out his hand.
* CurbStompBattle:
** The Turtles deliver a few of these when they initially arrive in Arendelle, as the local criminals and Hans’ allies are naturally incapable of facing opponents as skilled as the Turtles.
** In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Shredder's newly-transformed state allows him to take on the Arendelle soldiers, the Mutanimals, Shinigami, and Karai and defeat them all, only leaving Olaf unharmed so that he can tell the others who did this]].
* CyanidePill: More of a cyanide dart; when the Turtles catch an assassin who specializes in poisons, he stabs himself with one of his own darts rather than remain alive to be interrogated.
* DancePartyEnding: ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' concludes with [[spoiler:the heroes all attending a celebration in Arendelle, the chapter concluding with Mikey and Olaf singing "Living La Vida Loca" and the main heroes all dancing the night away as Splinter watches]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: In ''Into the Unknown'', Shinigami introduces herself by posing as a villain attacking the others until Karai appears to make proper introductions.
* DealWithTheDevil: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Elsa essentially makes one with the Aeon spirit possessing April where she will become its host instead as part of a BatmanGambit to destroy it once and for all]].
* DecompositeCharacter: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:rather than Elsa and Anna forming the Fifth Spirit, it is a separate entity and Elsa is just the 'partner' of said spirit, with Splinter making contact with all five spirits while meditating]].
* DefendsAgainstTheirOwnKind: During ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler:the heroes make contact with a group of Triceratrons who oppose their peoples’ more ruthless methods, and convince the ‘renegade’ Triceratrons to help them against their fellows]].
* DemotedToExtra: After the Duke of Weselton was a secondary antagonist in the first fic, he is only mentioned in passing during the opening chapters of ''Frozen Turtles in Space,'' with the author confirming that [[spoiler:the Duke was returned to normal after his capture and has since been deported and sent to prison in Weselton, which is now under the rule of a more diplomatic duke]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Anna in particular falls victim to this on a fairly regular basis, such as when she grabs a sword when confronted by Rahzar without taking into account that she doesn’t know how to use it.
* DramaPreservingHandicap:
** Technically Elsa is powerful enough to take out most of the enemies facing her and the others, but she’s often handicapped by the fact that she lacks fine enough control to unleash an attack that could defeat her enemies without hurting her allies.
** Elsa is basically powerless on the planet Magdomar, as the temperature is so hot that anything she tried to create on that planet would melt (although [[spoiler:she manages to channel enough power to freeze the heart of the Triceraton commander Zanmoran when he is right in front of her]]).
* TheDreaded:
** It doesn’t take long for Shredder to establish this kind of reputation in Arendelle; after seeing how skilled the Turtles are at hand-to-hand combat, it is naturally disturbing for the Arendelle royal family to learn that Shredder nearly killed them in his first confrontation with them. During ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:the entire cast shows fear when they receive confirmation that Shredder is still alive]].
** The return of the Squirrelanoids sends Michelangelo into such a panic that he grabs Elsa and Karai to get away from the mutants.
* DumbassHasAPoint: Only in hindsight, but when even Michelangelo thinks Anna getting engaged to Hans the day they met was a stupid move, it’s clear just how big an idiot she was.
* DueToTheDead: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:after Splinter's death, the Turtles, their allies, the Northuldrans, and the Arendelle soldiers all attend a ceremony as a makeshift funeral for him. Once the heroes return to Arendelle, Splinter's funeral in Arendelle is attended even by their alien and other-dimensional allies, Elsa laying him to rest alongside her parents and erecting a permanent ice sculpture of the three as a reflection of how much Splinter meant to her and everyone]].
* ElementalEmbodiment: As in canon, the Northuldran spirits each represent one of the four classical elements.
* EnemyMine: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Shredder was basically allowed to enter Northuldra with the hope that he would give the conflicting groups someone to fight against]].
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: As the story goes on the attraction between [[spoiler: Leo and Elsa]] becomes more and more obvious to everyone around them. Even [[spoiler: Zura]], who has known them for less than a day asks if they are a BattleCouple after seeing them in action.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Fishface and Stockman in particular express uncertainty about Shredder's continued vendetta against the Turtles after his further mutation drives him to order the destruction of the Enchanted Forest, as it seems like pointless destruction to them]].
* EvilIsDeathlyCold: [[spoiler:In this incarnation, the mutagen that turns Shredder into Super Shredder is also mixed with Elsa's DNA, granting him her [[AnIcePerson cryokinetic abilities]], albeit [[DarkIsEvil colored black]], and even turning parts of his body into ice itself. He even brings up Literature/TheDivineComedy, specifically how the final ring of hell is an icy wasteland reserved for traitors, fitting for how his [[SelfServingMemory addled mind views Splinter as a traitor who stole Tang Shen and Miwa from him]]]].
* EvilVersusOblivion: As in canon, the 1987 Kraang tries to destroy various realities that Kraang Sub-Prime intended to conquer.
* EvolutionPowerUp: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Shredder's warped "epiphany" about his true nature allows him to shed his original body after it's been warped by mutagen and assume a less human but more refined and dangerous form]].
* ExpendableAlternateUniverse: Defied; [[spoiler:while Arendelle is in another dimension, Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven consider the Turtles’ lost Earth to be their Earth as well, and join the effort to save it]].
* FaceDeathWithDignity: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: when Elsa and Leo mortally wound the Shredder, he calmly looks at his enemies with respect and compliments the attack with his LastWords]].
* FailedASpotCheck: In the first story, when the guards arrive on the scene of the ball, they think the Turtles are trying to assassinate Elsa and fail to notice the dozen actual assassins lying out cold on the ground until it's pointed out to them. One of the guards lampshades it.
* FakeDefector: Just like Casey in canon, [[spoiler:Olaf pretends to side with the Wyrm to defeat it]].
* FamilyOfChoice: The Turtles, Splinter, and their allies soon become close confidants of the Arendelle royal family, to the extent of the Turtles being invited to Anna’s birthday party; after [[spoiler:saving Arendelle from the flood of the destroyed dam]], Michelangelo explicitly refers to Elsa as a sister when he gives a victory cheer of "COME ON BROS AND SIS!".
* FauxHorrific: Mikey's reaction to finding out Arendelle doesn't have pizza? Give out a SkywardScream and a BigNO.
* FinalBattle: ''Into the Unknown'' features the Turtles and Elsa's final confrontation with the Shredder [[spoiler: and ends with Saki's death]].
* FluffyTheTerrible: Lampshaded; Karai explicitly ponders the irony that the physically intimidating snow-golem is known as Marshmallow while the little cheery one is Olaf, as she feels it would be more appropriate the other way around, with Raphael sharing her opinion and Michelangelo suggesting the alternative name of ‘Snowliath’ for Marshmallow.
* {{Foil}}: The Shredder becomes this to Elsa.
** While Elsa dearly loves her blood sister, Anna, Oroku Saki absolutely loathes his adoptive brother Hamato Yoshi.
** Shredder's biggest flaw is his [[NeverMyFault inability to take responsibility for what happens to him]] and thus blame others for his misfortune, while Elsa's biggest flaw is her [[ItsAllMyFault tendency to heap large amounts of blame on herself]], thus making her [[AfraidOfTheirOwnStrength scared of her powers]].
** While Elsa's control over her powers is bolstered by [[ThePowerOfLove love]], [[spoiler:Super Shredder's cryokinesis is powered by [[ThePowerOfHate hatred]]]].
** [[spoiler: Super Shredder proclaims himself the Spirit of Death (with Mikey dubbing him as Reaper Shredder) just as Elsa represents the Spirit of Life]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: From the beginning of ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Grand Pabbie attempts to warn April about the dangers of relying on her Aeon crystal, which becomes more apparent after misuse of the crystal creates 'Stonezilla']].
* ClassicalElementsEnsemble: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:the four turtles are merged with their bonded elemental spirits turning them into a classical elements ensemble]].
* FranchiseCodifier: Not exactly a "franchise" per se but rather regarding the author's works. Almost all of the most common themes, motifs, plot beats, and character archetypes that would define an [=Iron117Prime=] fanfic of any form began here.
* GentleGiant: Leatherhead, Slash, and Marshmallow are particular examples of this, being relatively friendly (to their allies) despite their intimidating appearances.
* GodzillaThreshold: In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler:Lord Dregg pushes Elsa so far that she condemns his entire planet to an eternal winter, and even Anna has no problem with them inflicting such a fate on Dregg's people after everything he's done]].
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff are truly disturbed when they learn about the Turtles’ history with Shredder, and Olaf is so incapable of comprehending how bad the villain is that he suggests giving Shredder a hug until he actually meets the villain directly and sees how terrifying he is. This is taken to a further level in ''Into the Unknown'' when [[spoiler:Olaf witnesses the mutated Shredder freely admit his role in the death of Tang Shen and nearly beat Karai to death, the innocent snowman obviously traumatized and unable to comprehend the idea that anyone could do that to their daughter]].
%% * GroinAttack: Anna inflicts one on Bebop.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Basically comes up, as the Turtles, Kristoff, Casey [[spoiler:and Sven]] all rely on hand-to-hand combat while April and Elsa use their powers in a fight. That said, Karai is an obvious exception as she continually engages in hand-to-hand combat with her foes, and while Anna initially improvised using swords, as the series continues [[spoiler:she tends to ‘borrow’ Kraang guns when she has to fight alongside the others]].
* HealingHands: Used by [[spoiler:Leonardo and Splinter- working with Grand Pabbie- to repair the damage caused to Elsa’s DNA after she’s doused in mutagen]]. In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:April is able to manifest a similar ability using the power of her Aeon crystal]].
* HeroicSacrifice:
** In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler:as part of her efforts to atone for her earlier betrayal, Mona Lisa takes a potentially fatal blow to save Anna]].
** At least attempted in ''Into the Unknown'' when [[spoiler:Splinter throws himself and Super Shredder off a cliff by triggering a series of pre-planted bombs]].
* HiddenDepths: Applies to Anna to a degree; despite coming from a society at least a century behind the Turtles, she often manages to quickly grasp some of the higher science elements the Turtles introduce to their lives, to the point that [[spoiler:she occasionally serves as Donatello’s unofficial assistant during their time in space]].
* HypocriticalHumor: After all the occasions where Raphael has teased her about being such an idiot as to accept Hans’ proposal the day they met, [[spoiler:during ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' Anna enjoys the opportunity to tease Raphael about his own similarly impulsive relationship with Mona Lisa]].
* IChooseToStay: In ''Christmas Carol'', [[spoiler:Chompy Picasso chooses to stay with Raphael rather than return to his mother]].
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: When Karai loses control of her snake self, Anna attempts to inspire one, but Splinter takes over as Anna doesn’t know Karai well enough to get through to her.
* ImAHumanitarian: Suggested at least; in ''Into the Unknown'', when both sides find the ship that Elsa and Anna's parents were on when they died, Rahzar asks if there are any bones for him to gnaw on.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Elsa and Leonardo jointly wield one of Leo's katanas to stab Super Shredder in the heart in the final battle]].
* InformedAbility: The Night Blade are said to be a lethal order of assassins, but the Turtles put them down fairly promptly, although this could just be an example of how skilled the Turtles are rather than demonstrating that the Night Blade aren’t very good.
* InterspeciesFriendship: The mostly human cast of ''Frozen'' to the Turtles and their mutant allies.
* InterspeciesRomance:
** Not explicit, but there are strong hints throughout the first fic that Leonardo and Elsa are attracted to each other despite Leo being a mutant turtle.
** Played for more depth in ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' due to both Donatello’s canon attraction to April and Raphael’s relationship with ‘Mona Lisa’. [[spoiler:while Elsa and Leo admit their own feelings for each other at the final celebratory party]].
* IntraFranchiseCrossover: ''In Space'' adapts the 2012 cartoon's take on ''WesternAnimation/TurtlesForever'', resulting a meeting with the [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987 1987 turtles]] and the [[ComicBook/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesMirage Mirage turtles]].
* ItWorksBetterWithBullets: The turtles and Anna are amused that Baxter Stockman tried to attack them with only one grenade on his first assault on Arendelle, prompting Anna to muse that Stockman clearly isn’t their smartest enemy.
* KeystoneArmy: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: when Shredder is killed, his black ice construct ninja army all dissolve]].
* KilledOffForReal: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Victor Falco/the Rat King is the first confirmed casualty, as Splinter punches him off a fjord and he hits the ground head-first, clearly breaking his neck before he falls into the river where he will certainly drown]]. Later [[spoiler:Leatherhead drowns Rahzar in a river to stop him from killing Anna, and Shredder kills Splinter in their final duel]]. And during the FinalBattle, [[spoiler: Shredder is killed by Leo and Elsa stabbing him in the heart]].
* KungFuWizard:
** Elsa grows into this as the story goes on, mixing up blasts of ice magic with ice weapons like katanas and gauntlets.
** Shinigami demonstrates this when she debuts in ''Into the Unknown'', allowing her to pose a challenge to Elsa in a brief initial fight.
* LeeroyJenkins: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Casey demonstrates this when he tries to physically attack the wind spirit]].
* LetsSplitUpGang: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: the heroes divide their resources to search for the missing Splinter and prepare for a rematch with Shredder's forces]].
* LoveAtFirstPunch: Raphael swiftly falls for Mona Lisa despite- or even because- she managed to defeat the Turtles in battle.
* MoodWhiplash: Notably averted; [[spoiler: unlike in canon, the survivors of Earth are all shaken at the destruction of their planet, as opposed to Casey’s initial enthusiasm about being in space]].
* MotiveDecay: The Shredder starts off wanting to kill the Turtles and their friends to eliminate a threat to his criminal empire and his own personal power. By the climax of ''Into the Unknown'', all he wants is to kill them [[spoiler: and everyone else in both worlds]]. Even his minions are disturbed by the change in attitude.
* MundaneUtility: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:Gale dives inside Karai to help Leo perform CPR on her after she's nearly beaten to death by the 'evolved' Shredder]].
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler:April is horrified to recall what she did under the influence of her Aeon crystal]].
* MythologyGag:
** One of the first villains that the Turtles face in Arendelle is named Dregg, whose name he shares with the [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987 final villain of the 1987 cartoon]]. [[spoiler: An incarnation of Lord Dregg later appears in ''in Space'']].
* NeverMessWithGranny: Yelena might be old, but [[spoiler: she manages to throw off Tiger Claw when he tries to take her hostage]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: Ryder's attempt to use April's crystal to tame the Earth Spirit destroys the rock giants and creates a new, more dangerous form that Mikey nicknames 'Stonezilla']].
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: the Aeon spirit possessing April tried to take Elsa as its host instead, but the very nature of Elsa's powers allowed her to expel the spirit from her body and destroy it where it could have been able to kill her if it remained in April's body]].
* TheNicknamer: Michelangelo as always, including attempting to name Dregg, the head of the Night Blade assassins, "Head Blade", or re-naming Marshmallow "Snowliath" (although his suggestion of "Scorpi-Duke" for the mutated Duke of Weselton seems to have been accepted). In ''Into the Unknown'', he is the one to name the wind spirit "Gale" rather than Olaf, and calls the Nokk "Neptune" due to its ties to Poseidon in mythology, although Donatello and Elsa name the Earth Spirit "Fuji" after they find it later.
* NightmareSequence: After Shredder briefly captures her and Anna, Elsa has a nightmare of her and Anna’s last happy night as children being ‘interrupted’ when Shredder and the Foot Clan mutants come after them.
* NoSell:
** Olaf proves immune to most mind-reading techniques as he doesn’t have a brain.
** When trying to penetrate the mist surrounding Northuldra, Casey is criticized for his attempt to hit an explosive through a magical barrier.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: In ''Into the Unknown'', Shinigami explicitly compares Olaf to Michelangelo in that the two of them are pure of heart and always there to offer emotional support when they're needed.
* NotSoSimilar:
** While Hans compares himself and Shredder on their first meeting as people who seek power despite the opposition of others, Shredder makes it clear later that he disagrees with that assessment, as Hans was born a prince with all the accompanying status where Shredder had to fight for everything and has earned his reputation.
** In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler: Raphael feels as though Mona has betrayed him just like Hans betrayed Anna, but Anna assures him that the difference is that Hans betrayed her on his own whereas Mona's actions were based on an attempt to save her world]].
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: As in canon, the Triceratrons seek to destroy the Kraang by destroying Earth, and it's made apparent that they're doing this not to protect the universe from the Kraang, but rather to get revenge on the Kraang, even if they have to drag an uninvolved third planet into their conflict. Later chapters also show that they are just as ruthless, if not more than the Kraang, to the point some Triceratons have gone renegade because they didn't support the atrocities carried out by the Empire.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', [[spoiler:even the normally pacifist Trolls take part in the final battle against the Triceratron forces]].
* OmnicidalManiac: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: following his twisted "epiphany" in Ahtohallan, Shredder decides to kill not just the Turtles and their allies, but everyone else in both worlds, as he now views himself as the avatar of Death, with Mikey nicknaming him the "Reaper Shredder".]]
* OutsideContextProblem: Not only are the Turtles a surprise to a group of assassins Hans hired to try and attack Arendelle, but the Kraang, Shredder, and all Turtle-affiliated villains are a complete shock to the natives of Arendelle, even if Elsa’s powers make enough of an impression to even the odds.
* ParentalSubstitute: Not explicitly acknowledged in the sense that anyone says it outright, but Splinter clearly becomes close to the Arendelle royal family to the point of giving Elsa a few lessons in meditation to improve her control of her abilities and giving Kristoff advice on his plans to propose. In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: after Splinter's death, Elsa and Anna each compare their grief over his loss to the way they felt when their own father died, privately acknowledging that they saw Splinter as a new father figure]].
* PutOnABus: April and Casey are only referenced in ''Frozen Turtles'' without appearing directly, although [[TheBusCameBack they appear in full in the sequels]].
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' sees [[spoiler: Elsa basically deliver one to the Triceratron Commander Zanmoran when she realizes that she froze his heart earlier, as she informs Zanmoran that she couldn't 'fix' him even if she wanted to as only an act of true love could thaw a frozen heart and she can think of nobody who would ever love a monster like Zanmoran enough to pull that off]].
* ResetButton: As in canon, [[spoiler:the Wyrm is defeated when a wish is used to undo its escape]].
* TheReveal: As in canon, [[spoiler: Elsa and the Turtles learn that her grandfather, King Runeard, is responsible for trying to trap the Spirits with the dam]].
* RuleOfThree: At the start of ''Into the Unknown'', Grand Pabbie delivers a warning of three great evils that the heroes must defeat: a great deception, a hunger for power, and an unrelenting rage.
* RuleOfSymbolism: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: the four elemental spirits each communicate with their bonded turtle to talk about why each spirit chose to bond with a particular turtle; Donatello stays grounded despite his intellect, Raphael channels his fiery anger to protect, Michelangelo tries to help others heal emotionally, and Leonardo lets himself learn from his mistakes and move forward with them]].
* RussianRoulette: During their first trip to Arendelle, after thwarting an assassination attempt, Raphael gets one of the assassins to talk by threatening to play a variation of this with the poisons of one of the other assassins, openly musing that he doesn’t know if he’ll be giving the man something that will kill him painfully in a few minutes or just knock him out.
* ScorpionPeople: After exposure to mutagen, the Duke of Weselton becomes part-scorpion, part-human.
* SelfServingMemory: By ''Into the Unknown'', Shredder's vendetta against Splinter has reached the point that he's convinced himself that ''Splinter'' killed Tang Shen and stole Miwa from him, even though Shredder was the one responsible for both those crimes. [[spoiler:He overcomes this 'delusion' in Ahtohallan, but simply uses his new epiphany to abandon any remaining humanity]].
* SequelHook: Explicitly features in ''Into the Unknown'' when [[spoiler: the fic ends with Leo observing that Tiger Claw, Xever, Bebop and Rocksteady are still out there even after the deaths of Shredder, Rahzar, and Rat King, and the de-mutation of Baxter Stockman]].
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong; As in canon, [[spoiler:''Frozen Turtles in Space'' sees the Turtles, April, Casey, and the Arendelle royal family trying to prevent the destruction of Earth by going back in time]].
* ShoutOut:
** Michelangelo initially calls Elsa's ice palace the [[ComicBook/{{Superman}} Fortress of Solitude]], befitting of its icy domain.
** When the Turtles and the Mighty Mutanimals initially meet the trolls, the trolls nickname them ‘[[WesternAnimation/Madagascar1 the New York Giants]]’.
** Leo’s talk with Elsa about [[spoiler:his reasons for not killing Shredder is similar to Batman’s talk with Jason Todd in [[WesternAnimation/BatmanUnderTheRedHood Under the Red Hood]].]]
** When Olaf [[spoiler: becomes smart due to a wish, he claims that he ran through [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar over fourteen million scenarios]] and only found one where the Turtles and the others beat the Wyrm]].
** In [[spoiler:the final battle against the Triceratrons on Earth, [[Film/AvengersEndgame portals are used to summon all of the heroes' allies]] to make their final stand. Elsa also informs the Triceratron leader Mozar that he took everything from her when Mozar hasn’t experienced the events she’s angry about yet]].
** The [[spoiler: DancePartyEnding in the finale of ''Frozen Turtles in Space'' concludes with the Turtles singing Ricky Martin's ''Livin' La Vida Loca'', not unlike the ending of ''WesternAnimation/Shrek2'']].
** Anna jokingly compares Shinigami to the Wicked Witch of the West, all but explicitly stating that the Turtles gave her the chance to watch ''Film/TheWizardOfOz'' to justify her knowledge of it.
** Olaf states "I love it when a plan comes together" and Shinigami asks if he got the line "from [[Film/TheATeam that one movie]]?"
** ''Into The Unknown'' [[spoiler: gives the Shredder empowered cryomancy in addition to his usual skillset, effectively making him ''[[Franchise/MortalKombat Sub-Zero]]''. For extra points, in ''Mortal Kombat: Deception'', Sub-Zero's primary outfit ''is'' influenced by the Shredder himself, bringing it full circle.]]
* ShownTheirWork: Invoked in ''Into the Unknown'' when Donatello observes that the spirits of the Northuldra could reflect a range of other myths, such as how Poseidon is often represented by a horse.
* SitcomArchNemesis: In ''Into the Unknown'', Baxter Stockman and Pigeon Pete proclaim the other to be their "arch-nemesis" and just slap each other ineffectively in their initial fight.
* SmallNameBigEgo: When Baxter Stockman first appears in Arendelle, he tries to present himself as the Turtles’ arch-nemesis, but they can’t even get his name right, and Michelangelo muses that they have nemeses ‘way more archer than him’. When he attempts to proclaim himself the Shredder's deadliest henchman in a later confrontation, the Mutanimals point out that when the Shredder has Rocksteady, Bebop, and Rahzar in his service, even Fishface is scarier than Stockman.
* SmartBall: Olaf gets intelligent in a hurry when in Dimension X. He lampshades that it's probably due to the dimension's nature and that he'll be back to normal in their own worlds.
* TheSociopath: Hans is strongly implied to be this, to the point that he wonders if the way he reacts to the Shredder’s threats is what ‘fear’ is.
* SpannerInTheWorks: If the Turtles hadn’t been present, Hans’ initial attack on Arendelle might have been a success.
* SparedByTheAdaptation:
** In this fic, the Rat King is shown to have survived his canonical death in Season Two (although the author notes that all of the Rat King’s appearances were written before it was known that the character was dead already).
** While [[spoiler: Zeno]] was assumed to have been killed at the end of "Earth's Last Stand", here, he joins [[spoiler: the renegade Triceratons]] and survives the final battle.
* SpiritAdvisor: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: Splinter ends up communicating with the four spirits of Northuldra and learning more about their purpose in calling out to Elsa while he is separated from the others. After his death, Spinter's spirit appears to talk with the Turtles and Elsa, along with a manifestation of Iduna, Elsa's mother]].
* TheStarscream:
** In the first fic, Hans attempts to do this by attempting to turn Rahzar and Fishface against their master, thereby seeking to usurp the Foot Clan. [[spoiler: Said attempt fails and costed his life]].
** In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: Falco is revealed to be planning to try and sabotage the Shredder's current mutagen treatments with samples of rat DNA so that he can take control of Shredder's mind]].
* TakeUpMySword: When Elsa is rendered basically powerless on the planet Magdomar, Leo lets her borrow one of his swords.
* TearsOfJoy: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: Anna ends up crying these when Kristoff proposes to her at the end, despite still reeling from the emotional shock of Splinter's funeral]].
* TellMeHowYouFight: After Karai introduces Elsa to Shinigami in ''Into the Unknown'', the queen and the witch-ninja have a brief sparring match to get a sense of each other's abilities.
* TemptingFate: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: the heroes all assume that they have nothing to worry about Shredder as he's vanished from the Turtles' world, unaware that he and his remaining mutant allies are hiding out in Arendelle after developing a mutagen formula to treat his injuries that may even give him some of Elsa's powers]].
* ThatManIsDead: [[spoiler:Upon mastering his mutation, Shredder declares that Oroku Saki is dead.]]
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: The best description of [[spoiler: Shredder's attitude]] in ''Into the Unknown''; [[spoiler: while meditating at Ahtohallan, he is forced to acknowledge that he basically invented reasons to hate Splinter and warped his own memories of his actions regarding Tang Shen and Karai to make himself the victim rather than the villain, but ultimately decides that he can live with that in the name of power, proclaiming himself the Spirit of Death just as Elsa is the representation of the Spirit of Life]].
* TookALevelInBadass:
** In ''Frozen Turtles in Space'', aided by some meditative techniques taught by Splinter and the extreme circumstances, Elsa [[spoiler: not only learns to create large ice-dragon sculptures rather than basic animated snowmen, but she even learns how to give herself wings and fly at high speeds]].
** In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: after Shredder is able to boost his own power with mutagen enhanced with Elsa's DNA, the turtles each merge with their bonded elemental spirit, giving them access to the spirit's powers]].
* TranslationConvention: The fact that the Turtles can understand the natives of Arendelle when they arrive despite everything suggesting that they are at least a century in the past from their time is one of the signs that prompts Donatello to conclude they’re in another dimension rather than ‘just’ in the past.
* UnskilledButStrong: After exposure to mutagen, the Duke of Weselton’s new scorpion state is powerful enough to take on the Turtles, Elsa, and Splinter despite the Duke showing no signs of being a skilled fighter when he was human.
* UnspokenPlanGuarantee: The Turtles’ plan to catch Hans after his attempt to assassinate Elsa and capture Anna is only revealed to the reader after the Turtles have arrived on Hans’ ship.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: The seemingly innocent world of ''Frozen'' is shaken not by another person trying to dethrone Elsa, but by a [[NighInvulnerability Nigh-Invincible]] OmnicidalManiac.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: After learning about Elsa's powers, Shredder becomes interested in trying to harness them himself. Initially, he tries to get Elsa herself to join him, but once it's made clear that she never will join him, he instead becomes obsessed with trying to combine her DNA with mutagen to be infused into him. [[spoiler:When he becomes Super Shredder, he succeeds in this regard, and becomes far more dangerous.]]
* VillainTeamUp: In ''Christmas Carol'', [[spoiler:Kraang Sub-Prime joins forces with the Dream Beavers to attack the Turtles and Arendelle after finding their home dimension]].
* WackyMarriageProposal: Kristoff is shown contemplating using one of these in ''Into the Unknown'', but Splinter (whom Kristoff asked for advice as the only person in their social circle who's been married) advises him to keep it simple as Anna would appreciate the gesture more than anything else.
* WhamEpisode
** Chapter 27: [[spoiler: Just as Hans is about to backstab the Shredder through Fishface and Rahzar, they show their true loyalties before Shredder reveals that he already learned of his plan from them. Not too long after, the Foot Clan leader promptly murders the prince in cold blood, right in front of Elsa and Anna. While this is a Wham Episode in itself, it kickstarts the trend of [[EvilerThanThou having only one villain faction as the majority villain]] in future [=Iron117Prime=] fanfics. ]]
* WhatDoesThisButtonDo: The result of putting Olaf in the Shellraiser. Naturally, he hits the weapon system.
* WrongGenreSavvy: A good description of Hans’ attitude in dealing with the Foot Clan, [[spoiler: as he thought they were like minions who are willing to sell out once they get a better offer, unable to comprehend that the mutants respect Shredder no matter how harshly he treats them]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: In ''Into the Unknown'', [[spoiler: Raphael, in particular, gets such a speech from the Fifth Spirit when the turtles are contacted by each of the elemental spirits, the spirit assuring Raphael that he has learned to channel his anger to protect others]].
