[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12713688/1/Danganronpa-Disparity-Between-the-Truth-and-Lies-SYOC-CLOSED Danganronpa Disparity Between the Truth and Lies]] is a currently ongoing series by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/9933736/RioA RioA]] which features sixteen students in a high school called Reigning Academy of Ultimates. These sixteen students are trapped inside this school by Monokuma and in order to get out one must murder another and escape the class trial without being caught.

The main character of this story is Minori Watanabe, the Ultimate Pseudologist. However, it seems like his talent gives him a bit of a bad reputation and brings him in a bad light.

!!This ''Franchise/{{Danganronpa}}'' fanfic contains examples of:
* AffectionateNickname: It seems like some people call Minori 'Minnie'. Haruko is called 'Ko' because he wants to be called Ko, but nonetheless it is still a cute nickname. Amyto also seems to call Sagiso 'Sagi', and Kaniza calls Nezumi 'Nezzy'.
* AnyoneCanDie: Well, it's a given considering the situation the students are trapped in.
* AwfulTruth: Given the theme, this is definitely the case. Many characters broke because of the truth being revealed, especially in Chapter 6 and seen in the Epilogue.
* BigBad: It's obviously Monokuma and the mastermind.
* CastOfSnowflakes: Since everyone is an Ultimate, they have something special to them. If not that, then they are quite different in terms of personality and whatnot.
* CentralTheme: Truth vs. Lies.
** This theme is obvious when it comes to investigations/trials, the truth needing to be unfold to figure out who the murderer is and how a murder occurred.
** The theme of truth vs. lies does not only apply to the trials, but to the characters most of all. For an obvious example, Minori is the Ultimate Pseudologist and Kakuma hates liars. There are also more discreet examples such as [[spoiler: Fuwari having lied about her talent, Ko lying about his backstory, and Amyto having lied about her personality.]] To put it simply, all of the characters fit the theme of the story to a T.
* ClearTheirName: Well, since this story is obviously a Danganronpa story, names must be cleared in order for Minori to find the true culprit of each case.
* ClosedCircle: Stuck inside of a high school.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Oh, most horribly so, especially given the executions.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Fearfully so. The theme of the story is Truth vs. Lies, and although it is quite a used concept now, the morality of the story is set at a dangerously gray one.
* DeadlyGame: Well, it is a killing game.
* EmptyChairMemorial: The class trial has portraits of the dead.
* EvidenceScavengerHunt: Well, given that this is Danganronpa, this is a given.
* Foreshadowing: Oh boy, there are plenty of these throughout the story.
** The constant glitches and strange occurrences that happen throughout the entire story. This totally does not mean [[spoiler:that the Ultimates are in a VR.]]
** The mentions of Libertas and Theia.
** Minori's entire talent being a pseudologist. It is essential to the story and to the theme, especially since he [[spoiler:isn't entirely innocent, having killed his father and being a helper to Sagiso and Libertas.]]
** What happened in Chapter 2. Everything comes full force, especially in regards to what happened after the trial.
* GrayAndGrayMorality: Even more so than the actual Danganronpa games themselves, as noted in who exactly are the actual killers and how a murder plays out.
** In Chapter 1, the killer of [[spoiler: Ko was revealed to be Asami, however Kamui was also an accomplice. So when Asami was murdered, the fact that Kamui was still an accomplice caused people to ostracize him even when Kamui and Asami killed Ko to prevent the time limit from running down.]]
** This is even more apparent in Chapter 2 where [[spoiler: Minori and the others are arguing whether Amyto is the killer or if Rin is the killer.]]
* LightIsNotGood: Libertas' shtick.
* LoveHurts: A lot of this.
** Minori and Sagiso are a huge part of the story. It is a shame their story with one another does not end well. While both are always seen being shipped with one another (especially since Kaniza seems to enjoy seeing them interact a lot), it is especially tragic in the end where [[spoiler:Sagiso is revealed to be the mastermind all along and has been drugging Minori into following her orders]].
** Nezumi and Kaniza. Oh, these poor children. Nezumi and Kaniza genuinely looked cute together, but then Danganronpa had to come and ruin the show.
* MurderMystery: The main genre of the story.
* RotatingProtagonist: Mainly in Chapter 5 to the end.
* ShipTease: Well, it's a given, with the amount of characters in the story. The most notable ones would be Minori and Sagiso, Nezumi and Kaniza, etc.
* TheAce: Everyone is this as they are an 'Ultimate' in something.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: A lot is usually used under the pretense of this. Chapter 1's murderer wanted nothing more than to protect everyday, and in a way this trope is the ultimate reason for why everything happened in the first place.
* [[spoiler: UnwittingTestSubject: Everyone can be considered this.]]
* YouWakeUpInARoom: Basically what happened to Minori.

!!Chapter 1 - An Undesirable Beginning
!!!Tropes applying to chapter 1 specifically.
* BreakTheCutie: Oh god, this story's first victim and blackened. Not only did Ko die, but it was Asami who killed him!
* BreakTheHaughty: The accomplice of this case, Kamui. Although Kamui was not the blackened, he was definitely broken from having been the one to help in Ko's death and witness Asami's death. It doesn't help that people shun him for having helped Asami.
* GroupHug: Initiated at the end of the trial.
* TheLeader: Asami and Kamui both took this role.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Asami wanted nothing more than to protect everyone and not had them killed. Kamui helped too under this pretense.

!!Chapter 2 - Delving Into Misery
!!!Tropes applying to chapter 2 specifically.
* GrayAndGrayMorality: Oh god, was it much more apparent here. With Rin having been the one who actually stabbed Fuwari and Amyto being the one who manipulated her into doing so, the killer of this case was not at all apparent. A scrum debate had to take place and even then did Minori and the others almost fall apart because of their decision.
* MindRape: This is what the killer did.
* ShipTease: [[spoiler: Kaniza and Nezumi officially became a couple at this chapter.]]
* TheLeader: Minori seemed to have taken this role now.
* WhatTheHellHero: Minori threw this out at the cast for excluding [[spoiler: Kamui]] out of anything they do.

[[folder:Chapter 3 - Dead Man Walking]]
!!Chapter 3 - Dead Man Walking
!!! Tropes applying to chapter 3 specifically.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: A lot of characters fell under this radar so quickly that you don't even realize it.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Nezumi's, given that he's stripped down to his underwear and tied up to the beanie chair. Also note that Kaniza's naked as well.
* CharacterDevelopment: Or moreso, the downgrade of characters' good traits and showcase of their flaws. Everyone's flawed side seemed to be more apparent here, especially from Seiga and Minori.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Even more so than previous chapters. Everyone seems to be going down in a spiral.
* DissensionRemorse: Minori and Sagiso both. It is more obvious in Sagiso, given by how she always looked at Minori after the fight. Minori took a while to feel the need to apologize to her, but he obviously feels guilty. [[spoiler: It's a shame that Sagiso ended up losing her trust in him before he could actually apologize though.]]
* LoveHurts: This chapter is full of it.
* PoorCommunicationKills: This helped start Sagiso and Minori's argument.
* WhatTheHellHero: A lot of the characters seem to do things that emit this reaction from the readers. An example would be [[spoiler: Minori and Sagiso's argument]] to how Seiga treats Fumio.
** This became worse for Seiga during the trial where he continuously pursued Fumio and Minori. He might redeemed himself a bit however when he sacrificed a finger post-execution.

[[folder:Chapter 4 - Our Poor Subconscious Minds]]
!!Chapter 4 - Our Poor Subconscious Minds
!!!Tropes applying to chapter 4 specifically.
* HeroicSacrifice: When Fumio was about to get shot, Seiga jumped in to get shot himself. Even if he was the killer and was going to die anyways, it was kind of him to do such a thing, especially when he practically bullied Fumio in Chapter 3.
* WhamEpisode: This is especially during the revelation of what happened during the trial especially with Rin and Fumio revealed as spies sent out to stop Monokuma, and that Seiga had been blackmailed into killing Rin.

!!Chapter 5 - Hall Om Mig Nu
!!!Tropes applying to chapter 5 specifically.
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: When Minori fell, everyone began to get their own turn to shine. This became more apparent in Chapter 6 to the Epilogue.
* ButThouMust: Even if a lot of the characters were forced into unconsciousness and whatnot, Monokuma wanted them to vote no matter what... even if he was dragging them straight to their deaths.
* WhamEpisode: What happened during the ending. It might even be more fucked than what happened in Chapter 4.

[[folder:Chapter 6 - Epilogue]]
!!Chapter 6 - Epilogue
!!!Tropes applying to chapter 6 to the epilogue specifically.
* AcquittedTooLate: Minori had already fallen into the mastermind's grasp. It was just a matter of taking him back.
* AmbiguousEnding: You can consider this to be the case. Did everyone live? Is everything fine for Minori? What is supposed to come after this? No one is really sure.
* ApocalypseHow: It seems to look like this given the need for killing games and other projects to rise up because of overpopulation.
* ClosedCircle: Instead of a high school, you're trapped inside of your own enemy's headquarters!
* CrapsackWorld: This is in full effect since everything comes to light in this chapter. Learning that the world has fallen into overpopulation and Libertas' reasoning for the strings of killing games taking place, it is well-known that the world has fallen into chaos since then. It doesn't help that Libertas is considered a sacred ground towards plenty of people, and especially that there are more experiments taking place than simple virtual reality simulations.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Sagiso and Libertas' reasoning for doing what they do is ultimately this.
