Distrust is a pair of crossover fanfictions blending WesternAnimation/TotalDrama and written by . The stories share the same base premise; taking the cast of their work, and swapping them with the other. What this leads to is two vastly different stories almost entirely different from their original concepts. The two stories are as follows:
* Totally Dramatic Island is -focused story, that reimagines 26 of the ultimate students as normal high-schoolers, invited to Jabberwock Island, where they are separated into two teams and forced to participate in deadly, sadistic challenges brought to life by one Chris McLean. The last player standing will receive the incredible reward of one million dollars. 3* A Game of Trial and Murder is a WesternAnimation/TotalDrama-focused story, involving the 24 first generation contestants being reimagined as the upcoming 3rd Canadian class of Hope's Peak Academy. Upon their arrival to the school however, they find themselves trapped in a DeadlyGame hosted by one Monokuma, who gives them an ultimatum; live out the rest of their lives in the school, never seeing their friends or family again...Or kill one of their classmates, get away with the crime, and "graduate" from the game, allowing them to leave. 7!!Distrust provides examples of:

* AlternateUniverseFic: Both of them naturally fall into this, taking the base premise of their respective games, and simply swapping the cast around for different results.
** CrossoverAlternateUniverse: Specifically, the cast's personalities, motives, and backstories all are changed around considerably to better fit with their own stories.
* TimeSkip: Both stories take place a considerable bit into the future of both their series; TDI takes place roughly one-year after WesternAnimation/TotalDramaPresentsTheRidonculousRace aired, while Trial & Murder takes place about two-decades after the events of Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Jin Kirigiri, unlike his relatively harmless (though stupid) self in canon, is genuinely quite threatening and intimidating here, spending most of his screentime screwing over and intimidating Chris.
* BigBadEnsemble: With the exception of Chris, Chef, and Monokuma, among the players, Byakuya, Celestia, Jerkass Fuyuhiko, Gundham, Kokichi, Miu, Mondo, and possibly even Tsumugi stand out as potential major antagonists.
* ButtMonkey: Hiro and Kazuichi pretty quickly find themselves at the bottom of the totem pole, becoming something comparable to cruel jokes to the rest of the cast.
** Chris gets even less respect from this cast than he did from his original contestants.
* CasanovaWannabe: Leon's attempts to flirt with the girls are...Less than impressive. With the odd exception of Ibuki and Tsumugi.
** Similarly and to an even more pathetic degree, Kazuichi's attempts to get on Sonia's good side aren't very successful.
* DemotedToExtra: Several characters were students (and thus main characters) in the Danganronpa series are relegated to limited staff roles in the story proper. These include Kirumi, Rantaro, Mikan, etc.
** Monokuma especially, as while he is in the story, he won't be as active of a villain as in canon, and considering the LighterAndSofter tone of the story, likely won't be seriously hurting anyone.
* DepravedKidsShowHost: As expected, the one and only Chris [= McLean =].
* TheDitz: Hiro is...Not the brightest contestant to say the least.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The second chapter is one built around these; twenty-six of them to be specific!
* LighterAndSofter: Danganronpa proper is a DeadlyGame focusing on teenagers killing each other. Here, its actually rather goofy and none of the character's lives seem to be in any real risk. For now at least...
* LoopholeAbuse: The forms for the competition said you must be in high school in order to participate. While most of the contestants are teenagers and at the expected age, Yasuhiro is twenty-one but was HeldBackInSchool several times. Chris reluctantly allows him to compete.
* LoveAtFirstSight: The first time Kazuichi's eyes meet Sonia's, he falls head over heels for her.
* MythologyGag: The names Chris gives the teams, "The Soaring Eagles" and "The Ferocious Tigers" are the names he intended to use in Total Drama Pahkitew Island before realizing the translations were incorrect.
* VeryFalseAdvertising: ZigZagged; Jabberwock Island was indeed a very popular, successful resort. The false advertising comes in the fact the host neglected to mention it was basically in ruins.
* WelcomeEpisode: Welcome to Jabberwock Island is a chapter dedicated to introducing the entire cast to both the reader and Chris himself.
