Chloé hates everything about it, from the bland and unsatisfying food to its enforced isolation which prevents her from calling people she knew back home. But as she learns the horrifying truth of her new institution, she soon realizes that petty creature comforts are the least of her problems.

!!This fanfic contains examples of:

* AccidentalMurder: Luna wanted a chef who would prepare her a meal of fugu blowfish, which is lethally toxic when not prepared properly. She found one willing to do it, but he didn't prepare it correctly, and, well... you can probably guess what happened next.
* AccidentalSuicide:
** Chloé's fatal poisoning by Gabriel Agreste was set up to look like an allergic reaction. The police guess she deliberately ate something she was allergic to in the hopes of getting sick on the flight to New York, thus forcing the plane to turn around and land back in Paris so Chloé could stay there longer and rebuild her power base. They also think that Chloé's plan went awry when she ate too much of whatever she was allergic to and thus accidentally killed herself instead of just sickening herself.
** Alessia died this way, slitting her wrists and expecting her parents to save her, only for her timing to be off.
** Luna ate fugu blowfish she didn't know hadn't been prepared properly and died of tetrodotoxin poisoning.
* AccidentalTruth: When one of Bethany's classmates almost committed suicide due to her bullying, Bethany refused to stop and insisted the girl still needed to be shown the error of her ways, claiming that suicide was a sin too. Apparently it is, because Alessia went to Hell after cutting her wrists open as an attempt to guilt her parents into giving her what she wanted. Although, it could have been the motivation behind that suicide rather than the act itself.
* AllCrimesAreEqual: The girls' various sins include murder, bullying, arson, hate crimes, getting in gang wars, violating the Geneva Convention, attempting suicide as a cry for attention, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking firing personal chefs for refusing to prepare a potentially poisonous dish]]. Not all of them inflicted the same level of harm against the same number of people--Fatima got multiple rebel groups killed, Katya executed at least one prisoner of war, Julie only killed one person, Alessia only killed herself, and while Katie got into gang fights, it is unknown if she actually killed anyone. But all those acts crossed a certain threshold of “badness” that meant they wouldn’t be simply punished as normal sinners would, but forced to become demons and tempt humans into sinning in the above world.
* AsTheGoodBookSays: Chloé's Alliance ring tells her she can't contact her Paris friends because "the gulf between you is too great." This is strangely florid for a "cannot complete your call" message, but it is reminiscent of the Biblical story of Lazarus and the rich man, where the rich man is damned and is told he cannot cross over to Heaven because of the "great gulf" between them.
* BeingEvilSucks: After death, humans who committed particularly vile sins in life become demons and are sent back to Earth to tempt other humans into sinning. They gain the full knowledge that they're terrible people, but are powerless to change themselves and become better. They are TheNeedless and cannot eat or sleep; any food they put in their mouth disappears, and they will never fall asleep or feel rested no matter how long they lie down and close their eyes. They are totally incapable of feeling any kind of happiness--not from eating food, not from sex, not from companionship, not even from looking at a pretty flower, but they will have to fake all of those things while tempting and tormenting humans. If they don't do so, they will be tortured by their superiors.
* BeyondRedemption: After someone dies and ends up in Hell, they can never change themselves or become a better person, even if they want to. ''WesternAnimation/HazbinHotel'' this ain't.
-->'''Mr. Sconce''': ''[to Chloé]'' Your life was your chance, and you wasted it. And I know you're used to being able to appeal to your father and other authorities to get more chances, and do-overs, and withdrawn punishments, but it won't work this time. You hurt all those around you. You allied with a terrorist. You committed treason. Now you pay for it.
* ChildSoldier: Katya was so bloodthirsty that she lied about her age to get into her country's military and begin killing her enemies that much faster.
* CrowbarCombatant: Katie was a gang leader whose weapon of choice was a crowbar when she went to attack the Wolves, a rival gang. It didn't do her much good when the other leader turned out to be carrying a gun.
* CruelToBeKind: Whenever someone told Bethany she was being harsh for bullying others who had sinned, her justification was that being shamed on Earth now was nothing compared to the eternity of Hell they'd receive if they didn't repent. [[DeconstructedTrope Apparently, whoever's in charge of sorting out dead souls in this universe didn't agree, because she went straight down to Hell after death]].
* DeadAllAlong: Chloé learns that she died before the events of the story, and the finishing school is the start of her afterlife. It's not a very good afterlife.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: The ultimate fate of Chloé and the other students in the "finishing school".
* TheDevilIsALoser:
** Demons are incapable of experiencing human pleasures or any kind of happiness, even from something as small as looking at a beautiful sunset or a pretty flower. Chloé will spend her eternity tempting humans into sins that she herself can't enjoy.
** Chloé's demonic transformation also gives her pretty much everything she wanted in the canon series itself -- she has magic powers which rival even that of a Miraculous, she can hurt people all she wants with no real fear of being punished for it, etc. -- but she no longer wants those things (and in fact detests them) due to finally understanding the depths of her own sin and depravity. Unfortunately for her, it's too late for her to change, [[IronicHell so she has to keep hurting people and ruining lives as she always has while feeling nothing but shame and self-contempt]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Katie led her gang in attacking a rival gang and was so overconfident that she only armed herself with a crowbar, failing to consider the possibility that they might be carrying guns. [[NeverBringAKnifeToAGunFight They were]].
* FedToTheBeast: After killing her boyfriend, Julie tried to dispose of his body by dumping him in the bayou so the alligators could eat him. She didn't count on her foot getting stuck in the mud, which made ''her'' easy prey for the alligators.
* FireAndBrimstoneHell: Discussed -- when Chloé realizes she is in Hell, at first she is confused because it takes the form of a finishing school, instead of the fire and brimstone she envisioned.
* {{Foil}}: All of the other students in Chloé's "finishing school" represent one of Chloé's particular sins.
** Katie, the gang leader, represents Chloé's love of pointless conflict.
** Fatima, the collaborator, represents Chloé's willingness to work with evil powers in order to get what she wants.
** Jan, the revolutionary, represents Chloé's willingness to do horrible things to attain political power.
** Julie, the romantic, represents how Chloé treated Adrien as a plaything and arm-candy rather than an actual person.
** Alessia, the artist, represents Chloé's melodramatic tantrums and her willingness to cause massive problems to get what she wants, no matter how expensive or inconvenient for others.
** Ilsa, the Nazi, represents Chloé's racism and bigotry (as shown in episodes like "Kung Food").
** Katya, the soldier, represents Chloé's zeal to inflict pain on others.
** Luna, the gourmand, represents Chloé's contempt for workers and others she sees as "lesser" than her.
** Bethany, the fundamentalist, represents Chloé's willingness to exploit her privileged position and the power her social status gave her, no matter who it hurt.
* TheFundamentalist: Bethany was a hardcore Christian who relentlessly bullied her classmates for their "sins", claiming she was trying to save them from going to Hell. She bullied one girl who got pregnant and drove her to almost kill herself, but even then Bethany didn't back down, [[SuicideIsShameful claiming that suicide was a sin too]]. The girl's brother got sick of it and [[KnightTemplarBigBrother murdered Bethany before she could keep hurting his sister]].
* GhostAmnesia: After becoming a demon and being sent back to Earth to tempt humans, Chloé only vaguely remembers her previous life. She sees her former classmates watching a news report about her death and not feeling very sympathetic that she died, but has no reaction to it.
* GoodFeelsGood: A very twisted example. From Bethany's perspective, everyone should strive to be virtuous and follow a godly life, lest they go to Hell after they die. Therefore, correcting others who have sinned and need to be set along the right path is morally righteous and doing so makes her feel good -- even if that "correction" takes the form of vicious bullying and public shaming.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: Chloé begs Mr. Sconce for one last chance, swearing that if they send her back to Earth she'll live a good and righteous life. Sconce, of course, says no.
* {{Hell}}: Where Chloé and her classmates wind up.
* IronicHell: After spending years tormenting her classmates in a terrestrial school, Chloé finds herself endlessly tormented in an infernal one. Upon becoming a demon, she has to continue tormenting others even though she no longer enjoys it.
* IronicName: Fatima lived a luxurious lifestyle as the stepdaughter of a general who helped enforce an oppressive regime, even as the rest of the country descended into poverty. Her name means "one who abstains."
* ItsAllAboutMe: When Chloé begs Mr. Sconce for a chance to redeem herself, he points out that she's still selfish at heart because she only asked for that chance for herself and not for her classmates who are in the same predicament, or any of the other damned souls in Hell.
* JerkJustifications: Bethany justified her bullying of her classmates with the excuse that public shaming was necessary to make them repent their sins, and being shamed on Earth would be better than burning in Hell for all eternity.
* KarmicDeath: Pretty much everyone in Chloé's "class" died in a karmic way.
** Katie was a gang member who tried to seize the territory of a rival gang and got shot.
** Fatima was the stepdaughter of a general who worked for a dictator, and infiltrated rebel groups online so she could give her stepfather their information, get them killed, and elevate their position. She ended up being killed by the dictator's nephew when he took over.
** Jan burned herself to death in a fire she started.
** Julie brained her boyfriend after he said they should pause their relationship and then dragged his body away to be eaten by alligators, only for her to get stuck in the muddy bayou and eaten alongside him.
** Alessia slashed her wrists to guilt her parents into sending her to an expensive arts camp, but timed it wrong and she bled out before they discovered her.
** Ilsa was a Nazi and was assassinated by her superior because he needed a new martyr for the cause.
** Katya was a soldier who executed prisoners of war without mercy and was hit by a mortar.
** Luna really wanted to try fugu blowfish and fired multiple chefs for refusing to prepare her the dish and warning her that it could kill her if not prepared properly. When she finally found a chef willing to do it, he was an overconfident fool who accidentally left some toxin in the dish.
** Bethany was a HolierThanThou religious girl who bullied her classmates for sinning and almost drove one to suicide. When she didn't stop even then, she was killed by the girl's vengeful brother.
* KarmicTransformation: Played With. After becoming a demon, Chloé gains the ability to shapeshift, but the form she takes for her first mission upon returning to Earth is of a mousy girl with glasses and freckles, someone she would've looked down upon when she was human.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: When a pregnant girl Bethany had bullied and slut-shamed for months tried to kill herself but failed, Bethany just resolved to harass and shame her even more, because in her eyes, the girl had sinned yet again by attempting suicide.
* KilledMidSentence: Julie's boyfriend didn't get to finish explaining that he was having to put their relationship on hold because of his father before she beat him to death with a lamp.
* LeaveNoWitnesses: Mr. Sconce reveals that Gabriel Agreste, leery of Chloé possibly revealing that he gave her the police robots which she used for her coup, poisoned her using a tiny spike hidden within her Alliance ring.
* LiteraryAllusionTitle: A reference to ''Literature/DantesInferno''.
* LonelyFuneral: While Chloé doesn't get a funeral proper, it's mentioned that Zoé and Andre tried throwing a wake for her, but nobody showed up, and even they looked like they wanted to leave early.
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: Gabriel's poison simulated a massive and lethal allergy attack, so police don't suspect foul play.
* MeaningfulName: A sconce is a device used to mount flaming torches. Mr. Sconce being a demon, his job is to support an entirely different kind of fire -- Hellfire.
* MultinationalTeam: While “team” is a loose word to describe a collection of girls forced together to become demons after dying, all of them were from different countries when alive. Chloé is French, Katie is American, Fatima is Middle Eastern, and Katya is implied to be Russian or Ukrainian. The ethnicities of the others are left ambiguous.
* NondescriptNastyNutritious: Luna gripes that the food served at the finishing school is tasteless and does nothing to fill her up. But even if it was the most delectable food in the world, the girls wouldn't be able to enjoy it anyway, because as demons they cannot experience any kind of pleasure.
* {{Sadist}}:
** Mr. Sconce specifically mentions [[SociopathicSoldier Katya's]] sadism as something he wanted Chloé to see in order to understand that specific flaw in herself.
** Bethany was also a sadist who enjoyed relentlessly bullying her classmates when she perceived them to have sins. However, she didn't view herself as someone who hurt others for the fun of it, and just thought she was doing good by espousing virtue.
* SelfHarm: Alessia really, really wanted to go to an expensive summer art camp in Tuscany, but her parents said no because it cost too much. Even throwing a tantrum didn't change their minds. So she slit her wrists open just as they were coming home to try and guilt them into doing it, but they stopped to chat with a neighbor before walking into the house and she bled to death.
* SilverSpoonTroublemaker: Katie was the daughter of a US Senator, but she also led a street gang. She died when she tried to lead her gang in seizing a rival gang's territory and got shot.
* SlutShaming: Bethany did this for months to a girl who got pregnant, and encouraged everyone else to do it too so they could make the girl repent of her sin and be worthy of Heaven.
* SociopathicSoldier: Katya is so bloodthirsty that she lied about her age to join the army so she could kill her country's enemies. She thought her fellow soldiers were spineless cowards for not wanting to execute prisoners of war on the spot.
* SoldHisSoulForADonut: Chloé reflects that she and her classmates harmed a lot of people and got themselves damned to hell for trivial things like getting to attend an expensive arts camp, eat a luxurious meal, or feel the rush of adrenaline during a fight.
* SpoiledBrat: Besides Chloé, there's her classmate Luna, who fired five different personal chefs when they wouldn't prepare her a meal of fugu blowfish on the grounds that it was dangerous and they didn't want to risk poisoning her.
* SuccubiAndIncubi: Mr. Sconce implies that the demon girls may have to use sex to seduce some of their targets into sin. However, he notes that they won't be able to feel pleasure from the act.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Ivan feels a little bad that Chloé didn't even get a funeral, and nobody showed up to the wake that her father and sister tried to hold. But it doesn't last very long.
* TooDumbToLive: Luna refused to listen to five different chefs who warned her that improperly prepared fugu was lethally poisonous and had all of them fired. When she finally found a chef willing to make it for her, he didn't do it right and she predictably died from fugu poisoning.
* UnmournedDeath: After Chloé Bourgeois is assassinated by Hawk Moth following her outliving her usefulness, she is sent to Hell. One of the many tortures she suffers includes her discovery that nobody else cared about her death -- her even-bigger-AlphaBitch of a mother had her body cremated the second the plane touched down, her father and sister organized a vigil that [[LonelyFuneral nobody attended]] and they wanted to leave ASAP, and everybody else in the class went as far as to [[AndThereWasMuchRejoicing make pithy jokes about how she is out of their hair forever]].
* VagueAge: The girls appear to be teenagers, but they don't all seem to have been the same age when they died. Ilsa seems likely to have been an adult, as she was a full-fledged Nazi, not just a member of the Hitler Youth. Meanwhile, Katya was young enough that she had to lie about her age in order to serve in her country's military.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Bethany had a reputation as a virtuous and pious girl. She was nothing more than a bully who spent all her time tormenting people who she perceived to have sinned, claiming it was necessary to save their souls.
* {{Yandere}}: Julie's boyfriend paused their relationship after his father threatened to cut him off financially. Julie responded by braining him with a lamp and then dragging his body out to be eaten by alligators.
* YearInsideHourOutside: Chloé's demonic training lasts an unfathomably long time for her, but when she's finally sent back to the surface to begin tempting people, only a day or so has passed.
