!Warning! Unavoidable spoilers for Worm canon follow!

The fight against Behemoth in New Delhi takes a wrong turn, nearly resulting in a TotalPartyKill. Taylor, one of the few survivors, is discovered by a NotQuiteDead Phir Sē and sent back into the past to try and do better. However, things don't go quite as planned, starting with the fact that her bug-control powers didn't follow...

!This fanfic contains examples of the following:

* AboveTheInfluence: Taylor gets smashed and Kinsey has to help her strip to her underwear and get to bed, where she admits she's lonely and needs comforting. Kinsey gently stops her from kissing him and lulls her to sleep. (Then has a very cold shower.)
* TheAce: Between her natural intelligence, Lisa's hints, and knowledge of the future, Taylor soon becomes well-known in the PRT as the lead cybersecurity expert and foremost analyst. She's also an expert marksman with pistols and a formidable opponent in hand-to-hand.
* AngerBornOfWorry:
** Andrea yells at Taylor because of this.
---> '''Andrea:''' You listen to me, Taylor Snow. You getting hurt even ''once'' is once too often. The Brotherhood of the Fallen damn near ''killed'' you, and that monster in Seattle ''would'' have if Kinsey hadn't been there. And that's not even counting that damn Mathers woman in Chicago, the idiots in that gas station, that thing with Marquis, and …
** It's notable that Kinsey [[spoiler:stands by calmly during the whole diatribe]], and even [[spoiler:takes Andrea's side]] later in the conversation. Of course, [[DramaticIrony not fifteen minutes later]], [[spoiler:Taylor gets alerted to another problem she has to go deal with]].
---> '''Taylor:''' Shit. Andrea's gonna kill me, isn't she?\
'''Lisa:''' [Laughing and holding two fingers close together] Little bit.
* ArbitrarilyLargeBankAccount: With Lisa's perfect recall of the original timeline, Taylor is able to provide Andrea with stock tips and other predictions that quickly amass a large fortune. Any time Taylor can access Andrea's funds, her budget is basically "Yes."
* AscendedExtra:
** Mrs Knott from canon [[spoiler:introduced as 'Gladys Harvey', given that she's in high school at the time]].
** [[spoiler:Aster Anders]] from canon, introduced in Part 5-4 as 'Doctor Ruth Goldstein' and then revealed as [[spoiler:Purity's ''one year old daughter'']], sent back [[spoiler:fifty years]] from 2011. The next four chapters cover what she's been doing since then.
* BadassNormal: Kinsey has no powers or special mental advantage like Taylor. He is however exceptional in combat and even trains himself to [[spoiler:resist mental influence so well he actually countered ''Mother Mathers and Valefor'']].
* BadassTeacher: Mrs Knott, again [[spoiler: Taylor's influence causes her to attend JROTC and then ROTC, so that she's more confident and capable than in canon]].
* BoomHeadshot: Taylor's become such a good shot that all her lethal shots are these.
* BrainyBaby: [[spoiler:Aster]] triggered as a one year-old and gained a secondary power that gave her perfect recall of everything she had seen, mentally maturing her enough to handle her primary power.
* BreedingSlave: Taylor deduces that the proto-Fallen cult has been abducting [[spoiler:teenage parahuman girls]] in an attempt to breed parahumans.
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:Aster]] grew up believing her mother was a hero and that [[spoiler:Taylor had a master plan]]. When she meets Taylor, she's shocked to learn her mother was a criminal and that [[spoiler:Taylor is winging it]].
* BroughtDownToBadass: Taylor loses her bug-control powers after being sent back to the past. Doesn't stop her from kicking arse.
* ButNotTooBi: Anne-Rose (Taylor's alt-mom) is portrayed as being a little bisexual, enough to [[spoiler: be having a relationship with Andrea when Taylor meets her]]. However, once Taylor sets her up with [[OneTruePairing Danny]] ...
* ButtMonkey: Gordon suffers one humiliation after another due to his vendetta against Taylor, going from a senior intelligence agent to [[spoiler:working at a fast food restaurant with a teenager boss]].
* TheCaptain: Taylor ends up as one.
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: Subverted at times. Taylor keeps Kinsey on his toes, and vice versa.
* CasualDangerDialogue: Ned 'Crag' Hollows and Joanne 'Jazz' Sanderson have a little of this in the rescue scene. Somewhat [[JustifiedTrope justified]] due to the fact that she's [[ImmuneToBullets bulletproof]] and he just did a DeathFromAbove move that took out three of the opposition. Oh, and they're both [[SuperStrength super-strong]].
--> '''Crag:''' Hey, Jazz! Learn to share, will you? [Grabs two men by their arms and swings them around in a circle, hurling them at their comrades]\
'''Jazz:''' Hey, I brought enough for everyone! [Grabs another one and sends him flying into the trees]\
'''Crag:''' Good! [Hooks a thumb back toward the clearing] Go. We got this.
* Catch22Dilemma: Captain Snow wants to take a shift of driving and give Sergeant Kinsey a break. However, he considers himself to be on duty, as he's been specifically instructed to accompany her. If she's likewise on duty, then it is against regulations for captains to drive sergeants around. If she's not, then she can't give orders to an officer of the PRT. Either way, she's not driving.
* ConcealmentEqualsCover: Averted in 5-3. One mook asks why they don't just shoot through the walls at Taylor and co. Another one has to tell him that the bullets might overpenetrate and cause UnfriendlyFire.
* ConvenientlyUnverifiableCoverStory: Phir Sē drops Taylor in the ocean right in the middle of a boating accident where a bunch of yachts sank with no survivors. With a hasty claim of amnesia, it's assumed she was the only survivor of one of them.
* DeadPersonConversation: Taylor regularly chats with Lisa [[SpiritAdvisor in her dreams]], and Lisa possesses far more insight than Taylor's subconscious should have.
* DangerDeadpan: In Part 5-1, Taylor notes that [[spoiler:the pilot of her helicopter]] remains calm and factual [[spoiler:even while the fatally damaged chopper is plunging toward the ground]].
* DeathByAdaptation:
** Basically ''everyone'' who attended the New Delhi fight in the original timeline, plus all the capes in Brockton Bay.
** Nice Guy, of the Slaughterhouse Nine (shot by Lisa).
** Winter, of the same team (given a lethal dose of poison by Taylor).
** Heartbreaker (shot by Gladys).
** Mama Mathers and Valefor (shot by Kinsey and Taylor respectively).
** Eidolon (manipulated into suicide via Behemoth, by Taylor).
** Sophia Hess (will ''never be born'' due to Taylor's manipulations).
* DeathByDespair: After the destruction of New Delhi, Taylor was entirely willing to die sitting by Lisa's cairn as she felt there was nothing left to fight for. [[spoiler:Phir Sē discovered her corpse resting next to Lisa but used his power to reach her before she died]].
* DentedIron: Taylor managed to walk off a lot of major injuries in canon which makes her need to use a cane, even long after the initial injury, much more notable.
* DirtyBusiness:
** Taylor knows that she couldn't [[spoiler:give too much advance warning about a Behemoth attack]] if she wanted to keep her cover. But knowing that doing so led to more people dying that she might have saved eats at her.
** Taylor also hates that she has to (pretend to) play nice with [[spoiler:Thomas Calvert]].
** In 6-1, Taylor knows she's going to have to [[spoiler:murder Eidolon]] in order to rid the world of [[spoiler:Behemoth]], but she doesn't like it one little bit.
** In 7-0, Taylor shoots a four-year-old child in the head. [[spoiler: It's Valefor, and he's trying to [[PsychicAssistedSuicide make Kinsey commit suicide]].]]
** Two instances in 8-0. Andrea, on Taylor's orders, incites riots against the Los Angeles Protectorate and PRT in order to keep Alexandria busy during a key meeting. During said meeting, Taylor uses a drug, explanation, and body language to [[spoiler:convince Eidolon he created Behemoth and the only way to make amends is by dying against him]].
* DreamLand: Lisa creates entire ''landscapes'' within Taylor's head to host their interactions.
* FakingAmnesia: Taylor claims to have no memory of her life after arriving in the past.
* FrameUp: A patrolling Protectorate hero hears somebody yelling "Stop! Thief!" and assumes the only running person he sees is a purse snatcher. When he tries to grab them, the man throws himself to the side so his arm is crushed by a passing car and begins yelling the hero threw him into traffic. Turns out there was no purse and nobody can find the person who was yelling. The man was a gangbanger paid to take the fall by Andrea's mercenaries.
* FromBadToWorse: The battle in New Delhi was already devastating, but when Phir Sē hit Behemoth with his attack the Endbringer redirected the power into a blast that leveled the city. And a later interlude reveals that unlike usual Behemoth ''didn't stop'' but instead carved a path of destruction halfway around the planet, hunting down [[spoiler:Aster]].
* FutureSlang: Taylor gets to use ''present'' slang in the past.
** She uses the term 'cape' occasionally, usually by accident, years before it becomes current.
** In Part 5-1, she introduces the term [[ContinuityNod 'End-Bringer']] specifically to do with Behemoth.
** She has to stop herself several times from referring to the Protectorate leaders as the "Triumvirate" since there's still ''four'' of them.
*** However, since Eidolon [[HeroicSacrifice bit it]], the name now fits.
* GondorCallsForAid: Joanna's belated satphone call to Taylor.
* GoodGirlsAvoidAbortion: Subverted when the victims of the [[spoiler:[[BreedingSlave parahuman breeding]] program of the [[BreedingCult Brotherhood of the Fallen]]]] decide that some of them don't actually ''want'' to go through with the unwanted [[ChildByRape pregnancies]] resulting from their ordeal. Given that about half of them are [[TeenPregnancy teenagers]], this is actually not unexpected. There is also a HandOnWomb moment.
** MagicalAbortion: Also subverted. The girls are offered transit to a state where abortion is legal, where they can talk to a counsellor and decide what they really want before going through with it (or not).
* GrandfatherParadox: Taylor does her best to ensure that her parents still meet and get together, despite her presence disrupting things. [[spoiler:She's thrown for a loop when her birth date arrives only to learn they had a ''son'' named Tyler]].
* HeroicSuicide: [[spoiler:Eidolon]] charges straight into Behemoth's kill zone without any defensive powers in hopes of stopping him. [[spoiler:It works as his last thoughts essentially ordered Behemoth to stand down]].
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Gordon believes Taylor has absolutely no business being in the intelligence division, let alone having so much sway with the wider PRT, chalking her accomplishments up to luck and favoritism. He immediately trusts [[spoiler:Mama Mathers]] and refuses to hear anything bad about her, and he instantly jumps on a job offer from [[spoiler:Calvert]] seeing him as a kindred spirit.
* HumiliationConga: [[spoiler:Gordon]] suffered one off-screen after getting [[spoiler:booted from the PRT]], failing job interview after interview until he finally ended up stuck working at a fast food restaurant. [[spoiler:Calvert helped arrange this to put Gordon in the right frame of mind to accept his offer]].
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace: L33t accidentally kills [[spoiler: Shadow Stalker]] this way after she [[KickTheDog suggests killing an infant for the greater good.]] Nobody raises any serious objections to it.
* IShouldHaveBeenBetter: Taylor saves tens of thousands of lives when she [[spoiler: "predicts" Behemoth's attack on New York ten hours early]]. But people still die, and she feels guilty over that.
* IfIWantedYouDead:
** In 4-11, Taylor tells [[spoiler: Marquis]] that he'll live, because she only [[spoiler: shot out his kneecaps]]. On being asked why she didn't kill him, she replies that [[spoiler: it suits her for him to be alive and free ... for the moment]].
** In 5-0, Taylor asserts that she was not intending to seriously harm [[spoiler: Captain Gordon]], because it would have turned out much worse for him had that been her intent.
** Inverted in 5-1 when Taylor finds out [[spoiler: Gordon's thwarted plans for her]], causing her to ''want'' to harm him seriously. Kinsey talks her out of it.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: Taylor is entirely straight, with Andrea even saying she's the straightest girl she's ever met. Despite this she and Andrea end up in a loving relationship based on an emotional connection rather than sexual attraction.
* IllPretendIDidntHearThat: Shortly before PASS is formed, Taylor convinces Rebecca Costa-Brown to place any investigations into them breaking the law at "low priority" so long as they don't attack a foreign government or otherwise cause too big of a mess.
* InSpiteOfANail:
** Taylor carries out the assassination of Heartbreaker relatively early in his career but it's heavily implied that Alec was conceived just minutes earlier.
** Taylor's attempt to stop Ned being wrongfully sentenced and triggering in jail leads to him encountering Night Terror and triggering as a result. [[spoiler:But with the PRT on the scene immediately, and no jail sentence, he's quickly set on a less villainous path.]]
* InternalReveal: There are several during the course of the narrative.
** Taylor to her friends:
*** Her status as a time traveller.
*** Her technically being Danny and Anne-Rose's daughter.
*** Behemoth's emergence, and her intentions concerning him.
** Informing Aster about Scion.
** Aster informing Contessa about Behemoth and the other Endbringers.
** Contessa filling in Cauldron about Captain Snow's knowledge of Cauldron and Scion[[note]]Doctor Mother is ''not'' thrilled to hear about this.[[/note]], and her plans to avert Hero's death.[[note]]Unsurprisingly, Hero is ''totally in favour'' of this.[[/note]]
* JurisdictionFriction: 5-4 starts with members of various law enforcement agencies squabbling over how to handle a supervillain prisoner.
* JustInTime: Things are looking pretty dire for PASS and their rescuees, until [[TheCavalry high-tech tilt-rotors]] literally swoop in and disgorge [[GunshipRescue a bunch of gun-buggies]] driven by [[HiredGuns Andrea's mercenaries]].
* LastKiss: Taylor gives one to Lisa in her dying moments. [[spoiler: But it's not their ''last'' kiss ...]]
* LiesDamnedLiesAndStatistics: Taylor puts together a lot of impressive-looking statistics to hide the fact that she's actually using knowledge of the future.
* LoopholeAbuse:
** Marquis WouldNotHitAGirl. But [[spoiler:abducting and harming a male comrade to use as leverage]]? Perfectly fine in his book.
** Kinsey [[spoiler:has been using self-hypnosis to condition himself to kill anyone who tries to make him hurt Taylor. When he falls under Valefor's power, Mama Mathers announces her intent to have him do just that -- and Kinsey promptly shoots Mathers dead. She didn't know about the hypnosis and so didn't realise that there was any need to specifically tell Kinsey not to do that.]]
* MagicFeather: [[spoiler:The tapes Taylor uses to put herself into the state needed to contact Lisa aren't actually needed after the first few times.]]
* MiscarriageOfJustice: Ned Hollows became Crawler in the original timeline when he was wrongfully convicted and sentenced for murders carried out by the parahuman Night Terror. This led to his trigger and transformation into Crawler.
* TheMole: In 5-3, it is revealed that [[spoiler:Rodriguez is sympathetic to the Fallen.]]
* MoralGuardian:
** Dorothy Hebert, [[RacistGrandma Taylor's alt-grandma.]] [[HolierThanThou Fervently Christian]], fervently anti-gay.
** One of Taylor's college professors tries to interfere with her early graduation as an unspoken punishment for her relationship with Andrea.
* MortonsFork: When Taylor is needed to help [[spoiler:extract PASS from Colombia]], she gives Kinsey a choice: to either stay in Brockton Bay and cover for her, or to come with and ''forget anything he sees''. [[spoiler:He takes the latter option]].
* MuggingTheMonster: Taylor is in a fuel station when two men come in to rob it. Given that she's a highly trained military officer, while they're just two random thugs with shotguns, it's very one-sided; she's even able to leave one alive.
* MyFistForgivesYou: Taylor forgives Kinsey for betting on whether she would sleep with Gordon rather than informing her of the man's motives after she punches him in the face at full strength.
* MyOwnGrampa: Some readers were worried that Taylor meeting her alt-father would spark this trope. [[WordOfGod Nope. Just nope]].
* NamedByTheAdaptation:
** Mrs Knott from canon is first introduced to Taylor as 'Gladys Harvey'.
** Greg Veder's parents are given the names Nina and Greg.
** Ms Blackwell is given the first name Carrie.
** Danny's parents are given the names George and Dorothy.
** Crawler (canonically named Ned) is given the surname Hollows.
* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:Lt Gordon]]'s vendetta against Taylor that started over the fact that she wouldn't sleep with him ultimately gets him court-martialed, and only gets off with a other-than-honorable discharge rather than jail time because some of his crimes were done while Mastered (which only happened because he ignored Taylor's protocols on how to avoid, detect and/or resist Mastering). He still thinks everything is Taylor's fault.
* NormallyIWouldBeDeadNow: Taylor plays a key role in the battle outside Waco despite having been impaled with a piece of debris before it started. The doctors note it's a miracle the debris didn't hit a single vital organ and that the metal was able to keep her from bleeding out for as long as it did. Only some parahuman-assisted surgery saves her life afterwards.
* PitySex: Captain Gordon prefers more attractive women but mentally justifies trying to bed Taylor as a show of pity to "help" her self-image.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: At the end of Part 5-2, she's injured and low on ammo, but she's just [[BoomHeadshot head-shot]] three of the opposition, so nobody is about to argue.
--> "Congratulations. You're rescued."
* {{Realpolitik}}: Rebecca Costa-Brown's reasoning for giving PASS less scrutiny than she would a similar group is due to how it would look for any politician, even a woman, to be too critical of a group whose primary goal is fighting sexual slavery.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
** Nina Veder, ship's doctor and psychologist, who takes Taylor under her wing.
** Principal Paul Woodbine of Winslow High School. Directly contrasting with Ms Blackwell, of Taylor's time.
** Major (and then Lt Col) Brian Hamilton, of the PRT Intelligence branch. Taylor's boss and [[AFatherToHisMen father figure]].
* RetroactivePrecognition: Taylor takes advantage of her and Lisa's knowledge of the future in order to further her mission. This includes building a secret economic empire to handle affairs outside of the PRT and predicting the appearance of Behemoth to make herself look better.
* RevengeMyopia: Martins, the head of the ATF, wants Taylor's career and life ruined because she killed one of his men. That said man was TheMole and tried to kill her first doesn't occur to him.
* ScareEmStraight: Aster [[spoiler:demands that the Empire 88 be disbanded, but Allfather and Iron Rain dismiss her threats and attack her. A short time later, she throws their severed heads at a young Kaiser's feet. He agrees to swear off villainy, lest she make good on her threat to come back.]]
* SecretRelationship: Andrea and Taylor have a loving relationship but have to keep it secret to protect Taylor's career.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: What Taylor's trying to do. Time will tell how it works out.
* ShoutOut:
** Taylor explicitly picks her new surname from Series/GameOfThrones after traveling back in time.
** In one [[DreamLand dream sequence]], Lisa shows Taylor a stack of trade paperbacks referencing other ''Worm'' fics by the same author, and by others as well. Lisa comments that she knows what she'll be doing for reading material for a while.
** In Part 5-1, Taylor references two movies that Kinsey likes: [[spoiler:''[[Film/WayOfTheDragon Return of the Dragon]]'']] and [[spoiler: ''HeartbreakRidge'']] (the second one only by a single quote).
** In 5-4, brief mention is made of three other ''Worm'' fics: ''[[https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/burn-up-worm.395526/ Burn Up]]'', ''[[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/the-wolf-time-worm-au.17330/ The Wolf Time]]'' and ''[[https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/it-gets-worse-worm-au-fanfic.366768/ It Gets Worse]]''.
** Sergeant [[JustForFun/KinseyScaleOfTropes Kinsey's]] name was deliberately chosen as a reference to the different ranges of sexual preference in the story.
* SleepingWithTheBoss: [[spoiler:Aster]] made the mistake of falling for the attentions of a senior doctor and took a contract to work at the same hospital under him. When she learned he only liked her for the easy sex, she dumped him and tried to quit only to be trapped by her contract.
* TheSlowPath:
** What Taylor's taking to get back to what used to be her own time.
** [[spoiler:Aster]] in turn overshot Taylor's time of arrival and had to do this too to reach Taylor. [[spoiler: Admittedly, she was only one at the time]].
* StrongFamilyResemblance
** Taylor looks enough like her alt-mother that
*** Andrea mistakes Taylor for her [[FirstKiss on their first meeting]].
*** Danny is able to transfer his latent crush from Taylor to [[DoppelgangerReplacementLoveInterest Anne-Rose]] without a problem.
*** She is able to [[TwoTimerDate pass for Taylor]] in a dark movie theatre in order for Taylor to [[spoiler: sneak out and rescue Kinsey]].
** [[spoiler: Aster]] has her mother's cheekbones and her father's jaw; Taylor thinks she looks familiar but isn't sure why.
* SuperBreedingProgram: The proto-Fallen cult was attempting this by recruiting parahumans and [[spoiler:kidnapping young female parahumans for the more willing ones to rape]].
* TakeThat: [[spoiler: Aster Anders]], the child of white supremacists, is raised in the Jewish faith, and has a close friendship with a black woman.
* TranquilFury: Taylor fights using this; coldly, scientifically and ruthlessly.
** In Part 1-8, she takes on and handily defeats three would-be bullies, with the side-thought:
--> They were woefully under-equipped for any sort of brawl.
** When the bullies come back with reinforcements at the end of the year (Part 1-9), she is equally unhesitating, but she only uncorks the real whoopass when [[spoiler:one of them destroys the tape she listens to for her self-hypnosis]]:
--> I collapsed the baton. Wrapped my fist around it. And punched her so hard that I broke her jaw in two places.
* TwinSwitch: Taylor uses the fact that she and her alt-mother look almost exactly alike to have Annette serve as her alibi while she [[spoiler:launches a one-woman raid on Marquis' headquarters to rescue Kinsey]].
* UnpleasantParentReveal: [[spoiler:Aster]] grew up knowing only that [[spoiler:Miss Militia]] had said her mother was a hero. She is horrified when Taylor reveals that her parents were [[spoiler:Kaiser and Purity]].
* UnknownRival: Taylor was largely oblivious to Gordon's machinations even as she casually bested him.
* WhamEpisode:
** Part 2-4. [[spoiler: Behemoth emerges for the first time.]]
** Part 5-4. [[spoiler: Taylor wasn't the only one Phir Sē sent back in time; so was Aster Anders.]]
* WhamLine:
** Part 2-1: [[spoiler: ''Oh shit. My mom's in a lesbian relationship with my room-mate. What the fuck do I do now?'']].
** Part 3-1: [[spoiler: “The name's Tom,” he greeted me. “Tom Calvert.”]]
** Part 5-1: [[spoiler:He frowned. "Okay, I'll bite. If they're not stockpiling guns, what ''are'' they stockpiling?"]]\
[[spoiler: My voice was flat. "Parahumans."]]
** Part 5-4: [[spoiler: We've never met before today. I knew your face but you didn't know mine. You have, however, met my mother and father. I was sent back to the year nineteen sixty-one, in Seattle. I'm thirty-four years old.]]\
[[spoiler: And my birth name is Aster Anders.]]
** Part 6-2: When sweet old Deborah Goldstein reveals that [[spoiler: she's a ''[[TheHolocaust Holocaust]] survivor''.]]\
More than that; [[FridgeHorror checking the dates involved]] reveals that [[spoiler:she went through Auschwitz as a ''child'']].
* WhatTheHellHero: Taylor is (briefly) pissed at Kinsey for betting on whether she would sleep with Gordon rather than inform her the man was trying to get into her pants. She's considerably calmer after [[MyFistForgivesYou punching him in the face]] and finding out he won her several hundred dollars by placing a bet in her name.
* WokenUpAtAnUngodlyHour: To make sure her warning of Behemoth's attack will be taken seriously, Taylor fakes having worked herself to the bone for a week straight crunching the numbers, then calls her superior officer, Major Hamilton, around 2am on the day of the attack, to report what she's supposedly just worked out. Neither he nor Chief Director Costa-Brown are pleased about being woken up, but they do listen, and her supposedly having worked all night helps to sell it.
--> '''Hamilton:''' Why are you awake at this misbegotten hour, anyway?
