1''[[ Heroes for Earth]]'' is a ''WesternAnimation/CaptainPlanetAndThePlaneteers'' fanfiction written by Stephensmat.˛˛The Fanfic is essentially a reboot of the Captain Planet cartoon, meant to be more realistic, taking place in the modern day, and focuses more on the character development and their relationships with each other as well a more realistic approach to dealing with fighting pollution.˛˛In the near future, a huge corporate conglomerate is created. It is only known as the Corporation. Its reach extends to all walks of life. Across the world, five young adults face the Corporation's actions, which led to the destruction of their homes. They get magic rings from Gaia, a mysterious entity that seeks to balance the Earth's problems caused by humans.˛˛It has a sequel, ''[[ Wanted: Dead or Alive]]'', and a triquel, ''[[ The Power Is Yours]]''.˛˛----˛!!''Heroes for Earth'' provides examples of:˛˛* AdaptationalVillainy: While still a hero, Ma-Ti is much less innocent than in the original show, [[DrunkWithPower even showing an outright addiction to manipulating people's minds]] and having much fewer qualms about using the darker aspects of his powers.˛* AgeLift: Linka and Wheeler who are 18 in this story instead of the canon 16.˛* AnAesop: Like the cartoon, there is a stern message about doing what you can to make the world better, even in the face of overwhelming odds.˛* BelligerentSexualTension: Between Linka and Wheeler. Because it wouldn't be Linka and Wheeler without it.˛* BigBrotherInstinct: Wheeler towards Ma-Ti; he picks up on Ma-Ti's [[DrunkWithPower addiction to manipulating people's minds]] and is immediately worried, trying to coach the younger boy into controlling himself.˛* BigBrotherMentor: What Wheeler tries to be to his biological younger brother and Ma-Ti; he does well with the former but has only mixed success with the latter.˛* ChivalrousPervert: Wheeler; he's constantly flirting with Linka (to her obvious annoyance) but has ''absolutely'' no intentions of doing ''anything'' that would make her uncomfortable and the idea that anyone ''would'' turns his stomach.˛* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: Averted with Wheeler who has a good chance of being right if he brings up complaints.˛* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Pretty much the standard MO for everyone who works in the Corporation, as greasing the wheels of government officials, breaking government laws, and strong arming those who dare to protest.˛* CrapsackWorld: Earth is slowly becoming this, as no one cares to fight the Corporation's callous destruction of the ecosystem through their blatant corruption and waving of power over local governments.˛* DarkerAndGrittier: Essentially, this fanfic is this for the original cartoon, but still remains hopeful and light.˛* DawnOfAnEra: In Chapter 16, [[spoiler:The Planeteers' creation of a brand new continent]] brings about a new era for environmentalism and world attention to the Planeteers.˛* DeconstructionFic: Just how difficult would it be for five teenagers to fight a global problem, and how would the world really react to five teenagers with god-like powers?˛* DrunkWithPower: Devorux acts like this, to the disgust of his colleagues and of the heroes.˛** On the heroes' side, Ma-Ti who gets a little too into using the mind-altering feature of his ring.˛* EldritchAbomination: When all five rings' powers are combined, instead of a blue skinned, green haired superhero spouting witty one liners, the result is [[spoiler:a {{kaiju}}-sized rampaging monster that destroys everything in its path]]. Luckily, being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, all it does is stop the already evacuated mobile oil platform and create Hope Island.˛* ElementalPowers: As in the cartoon. The powers of the main cast are the four classical elements plus one referred to as heart.˛* EveryManHasHisPrice: How the Corporation deals with people making trouble for them, or their immediate superiors.˛* EvenEvilHasStandards: Devorux's DrunkWithPower behavior disgusts even his fellow CorruptCorporateExecutive colleagues.˛* FemmeFatale: Bligh, as a more realistic version of Dr. Blight from the cartoon, fits into this as the Head of Security for The Corporation.˛* ForTheEvulz: Averted. Unlike the ''Captain Planet'' cartoon villains, the villains actually have motivations beyond petty profit and being evil. Instead, they are nuanced villains who want money and/or power, and are ruthless enough to do so.˛* FlatEarthAtheist: Averted. People quickly accept the supernatural powers of the main cast after seeing them.˛* GeniusLoci: Gaia is one that encompasses the entire planet. As a result, the sections written from her perspective are rather... [[HumansThroughAlienEyes stra]][[BlueAndOrangeMorality nge]].˛* GreenAesop: Since it is a Captain Planet Fanfic, it heavily focuses on the modern problems that the environment is going through and the possible solutions anybody can do to combat it.˛* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Ma-Ti's power is quite impressive, and that's not even taking into account how the Planeteers need his ring to translate for them.˛* HeroicBlueScreenOfDeath: Ma-Ti has a bad one when the Planeteers are captured and lose their rings due to having [[DrunkWithPower gotten somewhat addicted to his ring's powers]].˛* HiddenDepths: Wheeler is still a bit of a jerkish punk from New York, but does whatever he can to take care of his brother as well as become an expert gardener to honor his mother. Quite a difference from the original cartoon portrayal.˛* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: After the Planeteers escape the villains, Wheeler is noticeably avoiding flirting with Linka, much to her worry. [[spoiler: Turns out he doesn't want to remind her of one of the villains who made it ''quite'' clear that he wanted to have his way with her.]]˛* PsychoRangers: The main antagonists of "The Power Is Yours!" Chillingly each of said PsychoRangers are close to their respective Planeteer, with Ma-Ti as the sole exception.˛* {{Main/Reconstruction}}: As noted above, this is Captain Planet if it was done realistically, with the five teenagers feeling like failures, being real people and going against villains who are only out for their personal gain, and we see how tough it is for them. That said, they are still hopeful, likable teenagers who work as a team and care about the environment, doing real solutions for helping the world and considering all the angles of their decisions.˛* [[spoiler: ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: PlayedWith as while Wheeler wasn't killed in "The Power Is Yours!", only the readers know this and he's still not in any position or condition to help with the fight against Gauntlet. Ultimately PlayedStraight though]]˛* ShesGotLegs: Much attention is brought to Linka being “leggy.”˛* ShoutOut: Each gets one along with their ring; Wheeler's fortuneteller stepmother says "[[Franchise/CthulhuMythos The Stars Are Right]]." Linka's grandmother says "[[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Winter Is Coming]]."˛* ShownTheirWork: The author highlights the research he did in every chapter and how close it is to reality, making the aesops more poignant.˛* StrappedToAnOperatingTable: When the Planeteers are captured, the villains are rather curious about how the rings work, and will try anything to acquire that knowledge.˛* SupervillainLair: Originally a small mech vehicle in the first episode of the cartoon. This version of the mobile oil platform is equipped with a laboratory, opulent dining quarters, brig, galley and an army.˛* [[SurferDude Surfer Dudette]]: Gi's personality is that of a genius who is all about surfing and enjoying the life of a beach bum after her finishing college, until she gets a magic ring from the spirit of the Earth that allows her to control water and changes her life forever.˛* SquishyWizard: The main cast. While they wield great powers, they are still normal humans. Fortunately, Kwame's power is capable of generating cover quickly.˛* TranslatorMicrobes: Ma-Ti's ring allows all the Planeteers to understand each other despite the fact that there's no language that all of them share. When they lose their rings, all of them (except a [[HeroicBlueScreenOfDeath blue-screening]] Ma-Ti) are clearly distressed with the fact that only Gi and Wheeler are capable of properly speaking to each other and how difficult this makes escape.˛* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Though they weren't a couple at the time, Gi ''flips'' when Bligh badly injures Kwame and nearly drowns the woman, who only survives because of a timely intervention of some of her allies.˛* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Averted, Ma-Ti is the most necessary member of the team, as his power enables five people from across the world to communicate without learning each other's languages, as well as getting them by people with his ability to mind control.˛˛----
