->''He (Starswirl the previous Avatar) smiled at her for a moment before loud laughter lifted through the air, filled with malice and cruelty. His head whipped around and his eyes narrowed. "You must go. Now," he said as he reached out and pushed her, sending her plummeting down towards the earth below. "Do not forget what I've told you! You must find and learn all the elements, find the other five and restart the cycle of sun and moon!"''

!!Like the series it's based on, it has four parts:

* ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/5584/avatar-the-last-alicorn-book-1-pegasus Book 1: Pegasus]]''
** The avatar, Twilight Sparkle, travels on a journey to stop the water nation's war against the world. Constantly pursued by Nightmare Moon's daughter as well as the general of Water Nation will she be able to take and complete her first step towards becoming the avatar?

* ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/156784/avatar-the-last-alicorn-book-2-earth-pony Book 2: Earth Pony]]''
** Following the first book, will Avatar Twilight be able to find an earth bending master, as well as develop the skills to add a third element to her repertoire? Will her new skills allow her to keep one step ahead of her newest, and possibly greatest, enemy, the young Sweetie Belle?

* ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/196883 Book 3: Unicorn]]''
** Following the second book, with the Water Nation having seemingly won, embracing all the nations in its icy grip, will Twilight and her friends be able to stop them before they can unleash [[spoiler: Discord and return his chaos to the world]]? With so much lost and destroyed, will Twilight be able to endure facing off against the fearsome Nightmare Moon?

* ''[[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/249908/avatar-the-last-alicorn-book-4-alicorn Book 4: Alicorn]]''.
** The story is done, the battle lost. [[spoiler: With Discord free to run rampant, will Twilight and the others be able to stop him? What cruel and twisted plots does he have in mind for them and, more importantly, what does he have in store for the elements themselves?]] The final book in the Avatar series starts now!

Series now complete, a sequel has already began under the name: ''FanFic/AvatarLegendOfDiamondTiara''. Please help with both trope pages.

----
!!This fanfic contains examples of:
* ActionHero: Most of Team Avatar holds this role. Given that fighting is usually how they end up solving their biggest problems.
* AdaptationExpansion: Several individual plot points and characters, such as the bounty hunter Zuko hired being Gilda are expanded and played with.
** The use of "Mai and Ty Lee" are much larger in book 3, with them getting their own mini adventure.
** However, the biggest change is in the use of Book 4. While on the surface it's a lot of original material, at it's core it's an expanded retelling of the 2nd half of [[spoiler: Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E2TheReturnOfHarmonyPart2 the MLP Season 2 premiere]].
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** Zig-zagged. In the show, the Alicorn Amulet has an ArtifactOfDoom that gives the wielder incredible magic powers at the cost of their sanity. Here, however, not only does it NOT slowly drive the user insane, but it's presented as just a useful tool for the Avatar. ''However'', it's only used by villains.
** In WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender, bloodbending is something exclusively used by villains. (Katara was the only exception but even then she once used it to hurt someone) Here, it's presented as the GoodCounterpart to poison bending.(that is to say, the best way to counter it) Celestia even says it's very difficult to use on another person. ...Then the sequel comes out and we're introduced to an evil bloodbender.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Trixie is ''much'' worse then her canon counterpart. She's a BadBoss, she [[spoiler: willingly sides with Discord for more power]], she's TheStarscream... the list goes on.
** Downplayed with Discord. He really isn't any worse then he was in The Return of Harmony Part 1 and 2, but it's obvious he's never going to make a HeelFaceTurn.
* AlasPoorVillain: In-universe: Rarity and Fluttershy express pity over [[spoiler: Sombra's death]] even after it's made clear [[spoiler: there's nothing left of the kind, good stallion he once was]].
* AllLovingHero: Twilight is an extremely bighearted alicorn. She tries to reason with water nation soldiers attacking her when she woke up, she tries to keep nice with Rarity during some of their escapes and confrontations together, she wants to save the civilians because as avatar she has to save the world, and when she begins to see the water nation's softer side, it makes her fighting them all the more difficult. In fact, this is precisely why her WhatTheHellHero later in the fic is so effective, because of this.
* AntiVillain: Several, and each for different reasons.
** Rarity begins as a Type II, though with some Type I bits as well.
** Celestia, just like Iroh, is a Type IV. She even refers to herself as an "unwilling adversary." [[spoiler: Then Discord gets his hands on her.]]
** Sweetie Belle is definitely sadistic and psychotic, but due to her only being partially in control of her actions due to Discord's corruption, she actually is a Type I and II.
** Flowerbloom and Scootaloo are both types IV, being nice to the troops, concerned over Sweetie Belle's mean streaks, and really only supporting her because they're her childhood friends.
** Caliburn is a Type I, being hard working and loyal, but still working for an invading army.
** Blueblood starts as a type III, but he gets worse...[[spoiler: and then better]].
* AscendedExtra: Trixie. She initially seems like she's just a [[ArcVillain Zhao]] {{Expy}}, but [[spoiler: Discord turns her into his DragonInChief]].
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: Luna and Sweetie Belle, after being freed from Discord's influence once and for all.]]
* AudienceSurrogate: Pinkie Pie. She knows something of how ''Avatar'' is supposed to work, so she can get a little... testy when the script strays.
* AxCrazy: Sweetie Belle isn't all there really, especially when more directly under discord's control.
* TheBadGuyWins: In a sense, Trixie gets everything she wants and gets off scott free. She manages to capture the avatar, gets the Alicorn Amulet, tames several spirits, [[spoiler:gains incredible bending abilities thanks to Discord, and in the sequel she even gets her revenge on Twilight.]] The ''only'' time she ever failed was when she tried to capture Cloudsdale and even then it was a NearVillainVictory! It's only after she does this that things start falling apart for her, [[spoiler:Discord takes away most of her bending and teleports her away to who knows where, and she ends up stranded in the Spirit World, dying alone and forgotten by everyone except Silver Spoon and Twilight.]]
** In addition to the above, Discord also gets what he wants. He frees himself and quickly manages to TakeOverTheWorld and gets rid of everyone who is a threat to him. But, like Trixie, when he does this, things start falling apart for him. In the end, he turns out to share the same FatalFlaw as his canon counterpart -overconfidence and his own pride getting in the way of his judgment- [[spoiler: and he gets KilledOffForReal by the Elements of Harmony.]]
* BerserkButton: Hurt Twilight's friends. Go ahead an try it, and see if you can survive the avatar state in the process.
** Also, go try and kill someone on Rarity's behalf. I promise you, no matter who and why you do that, she'll water whip you 3 ways if you try to kill on her behalf.
** When Blueblood seriously injures Twilight, Pinkie goes completely berserk and gives him a CurbStompBattle.
* BigBad: Nightmare Moon, queen of the water nation. [[spoiler: When she's defeated, Discord takes her place as the FinalBoss.]]
** DragonInChief: Sweetie Belle is leader of the armies, and does most of the work.
* BigBadWannabe: Queen Chrysalis. She's the current ruler of the spirit world, but any attempt on her part to mess with the avatar or try to take over the real world only results in pain to herself.
* BigNo: Like her canon counterpart, Nightmare Moon lets one out [[spoiler: right before she's blasted by the Elements of Harmony]].
* BittersweetEnding: Team Avatar Harmony was victorious, stopped the water nation, and ended the madness of [[spoiler: Discord]], actually killing [[spoiler: him]] to ensure that their evil can never be brought forth again. However, the scars of the fic run deep, extending even to the bearers because [[spoiler: Their connection to the elements of harmony seems to have been severed permanently for this generation.]] Furthermore, [[spoiler: Rainbow Dash's eyesight and Fluttershy's bending was never restored in full, forcing them to live adjusted dreams to what they originally thought.]] But, each of the bearers as they go their separate ways, resolve to help restore the world into something better now that the worst is over.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler: Celestia, thanks to Discord.]] Also, pretty much anyone under Discord's influence.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Both Pinkie and Discord do this. With Pinkie it's mostly PlayedForLaughs, but with Discord it's more TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou.
* CelibateHero: Technically most of Team Avatar Harmony is like this here. Being almost all mares, they can't have romance among the group, and none of them seem to give much mind at all to outside romance. The only exceptions being Spike and Rarity.
* TheChessmaster: Discord is ultimately revealed to be one. In essence, his 100 years of imprisonment, mixed with XanatosSpeedChess showed him to be one of these of the highest order. Let us count the ways.
* CompositeCharacter: Prince Blueblood is Jet in being the leader of a group with similar goals to team Avatar, but being antagonistic to the group. However, he's also [[spoiler: Mai, in being Princess Rarity's love interest.]]
** Avatar Starswirl is both Avatar Roku (the previous avatar in the cycle, a friendly connection to the water nation, the obvious mentor to the current avatar) and The Guru (teaches her how to activate the avatar state and the elements of harmony)
** Avatar Cadence is a combination of Avatar Kurruk (a lost lover due to an evil spirit), and Avatar Kyoshi (A master earth bender two avatars removed from Twilight)
** [[spoiler:King Sombra]] is a composite of Combustion Man (assassin hired by Zuko role to kill the Avatar before Ozai role finds out she's still alive) and [[spoiler:Ursa (missing parent of the ones in the Zuko and Azula roles)]].
** Spike surprisingly has several different roles he takes on. He's Appa (The Avatar's closest companion and goes missing in book 2), Momo (a leftover from the avatar's older days, found at one of her older hangouts, and left out of the final battle due to his smaller size), and he even has a little bit of Toph and Iroh as well (being "Zuko's" conscience and advocate from time to time).
* TheConscience: Spike takes this role.
** Fluttershy becomes this for the Great Dragon.
* TheCorrupter: Discord. His essence is the whole reason why the 100 years war began in the 1st place.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Unlike Canon Twilight, this Twilight poured all her focus into bending when she learned she was the avatar, and thus doesn't know nearly as much about conventional magic as she could.
* DarkIsNotEvil: The Great Dragon seems scary at first, but he was only angry Rainbow attacked him, and when he calms down he apologizes and becomes a firm ally to Twilight and her friends. It's even stated that he's an ally of the Avatar in general and [[spoiler: he dies making a HeroicSacrifice]]!
* DecompositeCharacter: Several.
** Katara is split up between Rainbow Dash (representing her fierce skill as a bender that's better than the avatar in their bending specialization and temper), and Fluttershy (Nurturing and healing others).
** Sokka is split between Pinkie Pie (The "normal" one of the group who gets special training), and even a bit in Twilight (TheSmartGuy and the one most interested in learning new strategies)
** Jet is split between Prince Blueblood (Pre-season 2 characterization for Jet being against the attacking nation but still antagonistic to team avatar at first) and Suri Polomare (an obsessive pursuit of waterbenders while in Ba Sing Se)
** Mai is split between "Flowerbloom" for the Knife-nut skills and Prince Blueblood as the love interest to the "Zuko" of the fic.
** Long Feng is divided between Photo Finish (Head of the Dai Li) and Sapphire Shores ([[spoiler: allying with Azula for control.]])
** Toph is split between Applejack (master earth bender) and Rainbow Dash ([[spoiler: The Blind one]])
* DerivativeDifferentiation: This is ultimately what helps this fic succeed. While it starts out with the basic structure of ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'', as it fills in the gaps using ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', the whole series takes on a new look, a new tone, and a new story.
* DiabolusExMachina: The end of book 2 has this, with Discord [[spoiler: inexplicably giving Spike over to the water nation as a "gift" for the princess]].
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler: Nightmare Moon is ultimately this, when they finally fight her a single blast from the Elements of Harmony takes her down and she was under Discord's influence in the first place anyway.]]
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: Vinyl is set up to be like the Jeong Jeong of the fic being a defector general from the nation. However, befitting Vinyl from the cartoon, she's far more laid back and happy in comparison.
** Octavia gets this treatment as well, going from the "bumi" in terms of being the queen of an earth kingdom city, to the NumberTwo of the allied forces, and far more hard nosed overall in comparison.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: [[spoiler: The All Harmony blast. When Discord seemingly destroys the elements, it takes another power to save Equestria.]] While not exactly known, it's described that this power draws from the harmony of all creatures rather than just 6 friends.
* EvilLaugh: Discussed as Trixie experiments with several different varieties of this. However, the best use of this is when [[spoiler: Discord returns.]]
* EvilPlan: Discord: "So, you think by sealing me away, I will be stopped, do you? Well, I will use my corruption, a piece of my essence to corrupt one of the elements of harmony, and so destroy the current avatar and lead the water nation to a war with the whole world. Then, by my influence, we'll wipe out the fire tribes and the dragons to secure my position. When the avatar returns, I'll take one of the "chapter specific villains" [[spoiler: Trixie]], and use her as my special agent in the mortal plain to act under everyone's noses. To that end, I'll use her to steal the alicorn amulet, and when Spike [[spoiler: gets generosity put into him]], I'll steal him away when nobody's looking, and give him to rarity. While this could be seen as giving away the one thing that can hurt me, I'll corrupt the element while it's in [[spoiler: spike]] and vulnerable, so that when it's returned to Rarity, I can use it whenever I want. Then, I'll use Trixie to stall Rarity during [[spoiler: The summer sun celebration]] to ensure the heroes don't win. Then I'll send my creature of darkness, [[[spoiler: Sombra]] to destroy the elements. If he fails, [[XanatosGambit it doesn't matter that much. Rarity will still be integrated into the group, and moving towards releasing me.]] Then when Trixie tips her hand, I'll use my corruption in Rarity to [[spoiler: open my prison and throw off their aim.]] [[BlatantLies It's that simple]]."
* EvilVirtues: Sweetie Belle might be partially insane thanks to discord's influence, but she does have several virtues: Love for her sister, Loyalty to her friends, Hard Work for getting what she wants, Determination to accomplish her goals, and Balance. The last virtue is because she isn't as interested in favoring unicorns like a lot of the water nation, and instead choosing her captains by ability.
* {{Expy}}: Several.
** Twilight is Aang. The Avatar who is trying to adapt to being gone 100 years and struggling with the responsibilities she has on her head. On the other hand, she doesn't have nearly as much of Aang's playfulness.
** Rarity is Prince Zuko.
** Celestia is Iroh.
** Luna is Ozai.
** Sweetie Belle is Azula.
** Scootaloo is the Ty Lee.
** Applejack is the equivalent of Toph.
** Trixie is Admiral Zhao.
** Fancy Pants is King Kuei.
** Cheese Sandwich is Piando.
** Although he never appeared in the original series, Discord could be considered the equivalent to [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra Vaatu]].
* FascistButInefficient: Well, the water nation is efficient when it comes to fighting wars for the most part, especially under its best commanders. However, the less good commanders are suckers, bad at reacting to changes in ThePlan, overly cruel, or just cronies for nightmare moon with little in the way of efficiency or compassion. Subversions include Caliburn and some assorted commanders like Grimset.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Twilight, due to the difficulties of being in a stone egg for 100 years has some difficulties adjusting to the new world around her, but she treats every step as an adventure, so it only throws her off when something unexpected happens or if she does a rash move in response to the conditions.
* {{Foil}}: Rainbow Dash and AJ are both very similar in temperament, but they both hate being in the opposite of their element. (AJ hates flying, Rainbow hates being underground.)
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler: Hornclipper, who turned out to be a member of LaResistance all along.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: Discord, who's more or less responsible for everything bad in the story. [[spoiler: After Nightmare is beaten, he becomes the BigBad and FinalBoss.]]
* GuileHero: Surprisingly, Twilight fits this role roughly the same as her ActionHero role. A big part of her character is not trying to do everything herself, and asking for help with the sun, the moon, and the war rather than just doing things. She's not particularly manipulative, but she is more about influence than just fighting.
* HandicappedBadass:
** As in canon, Scootaloo can't fly, but she's still more than skilled to beat most ponies who can, and is as talented as any of Nightmare Moon elite flying team, the Shadowbolts.
** [[spoiler:A zig-zag with Rainbow Dash after she's blinded; while she ''does'' eventually become one once she gains the ability to "see" using airbending, it takes the rest of the story to do so and she succeeds only after the story is over. That being said, it's played very much straight in the sequel.]]
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: Sweetie puts the brakes on Rarity's redemption due to her amplifying the darkness in her heart (for now).
* HeelFaceTurn:
** Blueblood, after [[BreakTheHaughty having his life pulled away from him]], recognizes the error of his ways, and even overcomes his anger at the water nation because he loves Rarity too much.
** Then, after a long journey agonizing over her place back with her nation, Rarity FINALLY undergoes this after seeing how broken Sweetie Belle truly is.
** Scootaloo and Flowerbloom, due to being Type IV anti villains, don't have far to go, but they both end up [[spoiler: joining the resistance to save Sweetie Belle and the ponies around them.]]
** And in a shocking turn of events, during the summer sun celebration, [[spoiler: Sweetie Belle gets Discord's corruption purged from her, and actually softens up,]] culminating with her turning against Nightmare Moon during the attack on Manehatten.
* HeroicBSOD: While different members have this in parts, Twilight has this happen several times. First was seeing the peasants broken from the Flim Flam brothers. Then there was her finding out the firebenders were going to be attacked by the water nation IN the everfree forest. Next was right after she woke up after she died. Finally, there was her mental state after she found out the great dragon [[spoiler: Died defending Manehatten]]. That last one was the worst, and it almost lead to her death when the group [[spoiler: lead a 2nd attack of the water nation]].
* {{Irony}}: You'd think [[PowerOfTheSun Celestia]] would be a fire bender, but nope! She's a water bender! [[spoiler: Then Discord ''makes'' her a fire bender.]]
* IWorkAlone: Twilight does this several times due to her GuiltComplex, but thankfully [[ThePowerOfFriendship the magic of friendship]] always finds a way to bring her back.
* AnIcePerson: Technically, all water benders have this as a thing, but Nightmare Moon in particular is very much an ice person given her cold demeanor.
* JackassGenie: [[spoiler: Discord did indeed give all the powers of an alicorn to Trixie.]] However he didn't teach her how to use them, so she had to figure it out on her own.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Littlewing, Shadow, Sombra and Discord.]]
* LotusEaterMachine: Using dark magic (presumably) and [[spoiler:the corruption of the elements of harmony]], team avatar harmony is trapped in this while their physical bodies are trapped in stone. It usually takes them realizing something about their element to break out, or realizing where there's AGlitchInTheMatrix.
** Twilight's hell is where she lost all her true friends, withdrawing into herself and isolation in response.
** Fluttershy's hell is where she's surrounded by darkness, and called a savior, but as the element of kindness, has nobody and nothing to be truly kind to.
** Rainbow Dash's hell was where she was living in luxury with no need to help anymore, which would be a kind of kindness, but her warrior spirit chafed under this, and she broke out from it by realizing that her friends weren't being truly loyal to her by "shoving her aside".
** Applejack's hell was where she went home to a peaceful farm with all her family again, but began down the path of dishonesty when she had her own TragicMistake in accidentally killing an anti-water nation farm inspector.
** Pinkie Pie's hell was actually a ShoutOut to fake out episodes where the show before it was AllJustADream like the ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' episode "Normal Again". Making all her silly knowledge and ShoutOut and BreakingTheFourthWall seem like just things she knew before she got lost in her fantasies. Further, the entire world she was put in lacks color, joy and fun. And anyone new thinks she killed her sister so are afraid or angry and dismissive of her.
** Rarity's hell is perhaps the cruelest of them all: It's a world where the water nation never went to war. [[spoiler: Her mother isn't a warmonger, her father isn't dead, her sister never went insane, and she never got exiled or hurt.]] Thus, in order to escape it, Rarity would have to give up that.
* [[LukeIAmYourFather Applejack, She Is Your Sister]]: An In-Universe example. And AJ actually denies it at first when she hears it from her brother. However, when she meets her in person, she sees she's too much like her mother, and knows too many small details, and thus holds her close saying that she's so glad to have her sister back.
* ManipulativeBastard: Discord. He pretty much manipulates ''everyone in the story'', all so he can get free and rule Equestria once more. [[spoiler: He succeeds, by the way.]]
* MythologyGag
** When Sweetie Belle is planning to massacre the firebenders, she says that if Twilight doesn't get there fast enough, she can add another title to her resume: [[TitleDrop Avatar: the last firebender.]]
** Trixie gets the Alicorn Amulet.
** Celestia and Luna wear capes with wings on them.
* NotHisSled
** First comes the return to the city of Cadence, which is essentially the Omashu of the fic. However, instead of returning to a city captured by the Water Nation, the city was leveled.
** The Toph of the fic doesn't want to join the group right away.
** Emperor Fancy Pants knows all about the war, thus avoiding TheMasquerade story line in the Earth Kingdom.
** When Zecora steps up to help Twilight's poisoning in the season 2 ending, you think it's going to be some special potion that can only be used once, but instead, it supercharges Fluttershy's bending, saving twilight, but causing Fluttershy to lose her bending for the rest of the fic.
** The ClipShow chapter ends in revolution rather than quiet shock.
** The fight with Nightmare Moon bears strong resemblance to the pilot, and then [[spoiler: Discord]] tips his hand and turns it into [[spoiler: The Return of Harmony]].
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler: Blueblood.]] Despite losing a horn in an explosion, [[spoiler: he]] was found and rescued by Coco.
* NotSoOmnipotent: [[spoiler: Discord's defeat]] invokes this.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Despite looking like a foal, Littlewing is in his thirties. He claims it's due to a birth defect.
* OutOfFocus: Scootaloo and "Flowerbloom", despite being part of the Cutie Mark Avatar Hunter Team, get far less focus and interest compared with the focus on Sweetie as their leader. That is, until Book 3 where they both get their own subplots and Sweetie is put out of focus more.
** Pinkie in general doesn't get quite as much to do compared with the other characters. Something they poke fun at in the clip show.
* PosthumousCharacter: The previous Avatars all take this role. Whether it's Starswirl the Bearded, Avatar Cadence or Avatar Clover, they're all dead already.
* QuirkyMinibossSquad: Oh my goodness, by the end of book 2, Sweetie has a substantial squad of bosses to fight for her. Her best friends Flowerbloom and Scootaloo, the Flim Flam brothers and [[spoiler: Sapphire Shores]] all fight for her in the final battle. And that's discounting her general of the armies, Caliburn who doesn't fight, but does lead the army.
* RaceLift: The Flim Flam brothers are Earth Ponies instead of Unicorns, and Celestia and Nightmare Moon/Luna are Unicorns in this story.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Zig-zagged with Nightmare Moon. On one hand, she's easily able to defeat Vinyl and Octavia, and Twilight says she doesn't stand a chance against her. On the other, when it comes time to actually fight her, [[spoiler: she gets one-shotted by the Elements.]]
* RealityWarper: Discord. He managed to corrupt the avatar world in the past, and then in the present, when he [[spoiler: gets out, he starts warping the entire world with little effort, from the ponies to the land]].
* Really700YearsOld: The Great Dragon (the red dragon from Dragonshy). He was old enough to see 5 different avatars, and considering how long avatars live, that's something quite special indeed.
* RedBaron: In this story, Nightmare Moon is just a title given whoever is in charge of the Water Nation at the time — her real name is Luna. After the story, Rarity has it changed to Water Lord, presumably to avoid bad memories.
* ReformedButRejected: The royal family gets this whenever they're around other civilians. whether Celestia, or Rarity and especially [[spoiler: Sweetie Belle]] all are rejected due to their war records despite their new choices in life.
* {{Reincarnation}}: Every Avatar is this.
* SequelHook: Twilight in the last chapter begins getting land for the future [[spoiler: Republic City]], and [[spoiler: Tirek]] escapes his bonds, setting himself up as a future foe and the possible equivalent of Amon and a little bit of Vaatu for the future.
* ShippingWars: Played with before the summer sun assault, where Pinkie makes a joke about twilight [[DoubleEntendre shipping everyone together on the same boat]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: Sweetie's plan to take over Fillydelphia and eliminate all the water and fire benders along with the avatar and the great dragon would've gone perfectly, if it wasn't for AJ learning metal-bending, allowing her to escape, and provide Team Avatar an avenue to escape.
* SurvivorsGuilt: Both Twilight and AJ carry this, though for different reasons. While parts of Twilight's tribe survived, she feels guilty she didn't make it with them to help them during the great firebender persecution during the 100 years war. AJ's guilt stems from the fact that she was in Manehatten rather than on the farm when a water nation raid devastated the farm and lead to the death of her parents and her younger sister. (or so she thought).
* TagalongKid: Spike, and Angel Bunny.
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler: Discord's final moments are spent in terrified disbelief at how he could possibly be beaten. Then he screams, shakes his head furiously, and finally dies.]]
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Fluttershy says she may never be able to forgive the ponies of Ponyville for abusing and nearly killing Angel Bunny even if they were under Discord's control.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Scootaloo gets this ''a lot'', to the point where she's tired of having to beat her opponents into the ground over and over again. As the narration says, just because she can't fly doesn't mean her wings don't work.
* UndyingLoyalty: Surprisingly, it's Spike who follows Twilight to the ends of the earth, in part because Rainbow's always just outside the frame at first.
* TheUnreveal: Seriously, given what we all know about Friendship is Magic, who was fooled in the slightest about Flowerbloom being Applejack's sister?
* WhamEpisode:
** From the 1st book
*** Chapter 5. We get introduced to not only the standard Avatar story, but it also introduces Discord, and the greater threat looming over the fic.
*** Chapter 11: Twilight finally reunites with her friends.
