''Angel's Breath'' is a ''Manga/FairyTail'' fanfiction based on the completely original, titular guild, written by Master Of [=Anime224=], and it can be found [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10349519/1/Angel-s-Breath here]], with the reboot [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11448575/1/Angel-s-Breath-Reloaded here]]. It follows the different members of the guild throughout their adventures, and adds a cynical tint to the shounen setting.

!!''Angel's Breath'' contains examples of:
* AerithAndBob: We have names like Bane, Ryusuke, Rhea, Eiko, Lucina, Nui and Puzzlebox... alongside names like Dean, Rosa and Anna.
* AntiHero: Ryusuke would qualify, as would Styles. Wisteria's introspections show shades of this, but perhaps YMMV on that.
* BadassBoast: Ryusuke's PreMortemOneLiner to [[spoiler: Evan]] in chapter 19 definitely falls into this category. Bonus points for actually ''doing'' it.
-->'''Ryusuke:''' You think you can fight me? You're missing an arm. I'll end this in one blow.
* BadassLongcoat: Bane. Ryusuke also qualifies, mentioning that he has a total of nine of THE SAME COAT, and getting upset whenever they get destroyed, which has become a RunningGag. The one time it doesn't upset him sees him use the destroyed coat to blind his opponent in a dazzling display of [[CombatPragmatist pragmatism]]. It doesn't work.
* BeautyIsBad: Ana and Delia are both antagonists, and both described as being attractive. Also, The Wanderer.
* BeigeProse: Used sparingly and to fantastic effect. It ramps up the tension in several situations. The best example would be in chapter 22, when the line "and then [[spoiler:X died]]" is used three times. Twice followed by "except she didn't".
** Ryusuke also speaks in this occasionally.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Eiko and Nui. Florence and Cyrus. It's there, and blindingly obvious in the latter case by the end of chapter 18.
* BigDamnHeroes: Ryusuke shows up just in time to [[spoiler: stop Celeste being killed in chapter 19 by cutting off Evan's arm.]]
* BlackAndGrayMorality: On the side of good we have Angel's Breath, a guild containing individuals like Ryusuke, Styles and Wisteria, who all wear their anti-heroism on their sleeves, along with Celeste, Florence, Dean and Cyrus, who might seem [[IdealHero ideal]] but have hidden depths. Even Rhea, by far the best contender for an IdealHero in the series has anti-heroic traits. On the side of Devil's Rage we have reprehensible individuals like Akara, who's just a psycho. If not for the HeelFaceTurn then the series would be in the territory of GrayAndGreyMorality on virtue of villains like Ryo, Anialise, Evan and many more, who are, at worst, WellIntentionedExtremist {{Anti Villain}}s.
* CombatPragmatist: Ryusuke and Celeste so far.
* CurbStompBattle: All of the Angel's Breath team sans Rhea and Celeste are subject to this in the first fight against Markus and co.
* DeadpanSnarker: Ryusuke, Dean and Cyrus. They all come out with some deadpan and hilarious lines.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Dean [[spoiler: takes out Jörmungandr, the World Serpent with one attack. Justified in that it's only a summoning of Deva's Deity Soul: Loki, and is thus constrained by his power.]]
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble:
** The Optimist: Rhea
** The Realist: Celeste
** TheCynic: Ryusuke
** The Apathetic: Styles
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Celeste to Ryusuke, in a ShoutOut to ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.
* GilliganCut: One in chapter 14:
-->'''Rhea:''' You're coming with us.\
'''Ryusuke:''' I remember agreeing to no such thing. *beat* You can't force me into this.\
'''Rhea:''' *Smirks*\
* Cut to Ryusuke on a train*\
'''Ryusuke:''' "I hate you."
* GoodIsNotNice: Ryusuke [[spoiler:tortures Ana for information.]] He also has quite a few JerkAss moments.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Ryusuke and Celeste really don't get along.
* HeroicBSOD: Ryusuke suffers a minor one after [[spoiler:losing to Delia]]
* HeroicSecondWind:
** Florence in her second fight against Akara.
** Dean gets one against Deva.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Ryusuke suffers from this in spades. He's constantly berating himself for being weak and useless, even to the point of being so broody he's happy to take a punch from Bane and give no reaction whatsoever.
* HumansAreBastards: In Styles' mind, anyway. He also considers that HumansAreTheRealMonsters.
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: All chapters from chapter 4 onwards appear to be named after rock and metal songs. There are also small captions before the chapter begins with lyrics from the song used in the title, which can be related in some way to events in the chapter.
* InformedLoner: Ryusuke shows shades of this.
* KnightTemplar: Styles. Big time, he doesn't care how other people see his actions, so long as he believes they're right.
* LampshadeHanging: Ryusuke is usually the invoker of this trope.
* MadeOfIron: Literally everyone. Celeste is able to keep fighting despite being [[spoiler:stabbed in the gut]] and Rhea is fighting just a couple of days after a freakin' [[spoiler:HEART ATTACK! Although in that case she is nowhere near her full ability and the strain she puts on her body nearly kills her, and she would be dead if not for Ryusuke's timely intervention.]]
* MadeOutToBeAJerkass: Ryusuke suffers this after he'd had enough of Cyrus' Jerkassery during his HeroicBSOD.
* MaleGaze: A scene between Ryusuke and Rhea in chapter 9 has her stripping almost entirely naked. [[CovertPervert He can't look away]].
* MeaningfulName: Ryusuke Yugure and Rhea Yokoshima. Yugure loosely translates from Japanese as "Twilight", whilst Yokoshima translates as "Devious One", probably referencing some of the more mischievous aspects of her personality. Also, Eiko Haverj means "Eternal long-lived child".
** Lucina Cypher. Her nickname is [[LouisCypher Lu.]]
* MercyKill: In the first chapter of the reboot, Ryusuke does this to a young girl with no chance of survival.
* PragmaticHero: Ryusuke, without a doubt.
* SaidBookism: Notably averted. The author has no aversion to using the word 'said', when he's not using action tags anyway, which is a lot of the time, although he's slowly getting better. That's not to say that the said bookisms aren't used, but when they are, they are generally used well. Although Ryusuke does have a habit of sighing his speech [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness earlier on]]. And people do still smile some sentences, although these could very well be action tags gone wrong, given the author's fondness for them.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVsCynicism: Launching into the first major arc, this story seems to be leaning slightly towards cynicism. However, it's still early days, so it could yet become victim to ReverseCerebusSyndrome or become a CerebusRollercoaster.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Averted. When Delia calls Rhea Ryusuke's girlfriend, he doesn't say a word against it, when one would think he'd be quick to make the point that she really isn't.
* ShoutOut:
** To ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'':
---> Celeste: Ryusuke, let's see ya grit those teeth!
** A few to the ''Literature/JackReacher'' novels:
*** In chapter 20, Ryusuke says that people who fight to achieve the moral victory piss him off, as he and Celeste fight to piss on the other guy's grave.
*** The rules, which they banter about in chapter 20:
---->'''Ryusuke:''' Rule one: don't question the coat.\
Celeste:''' I thought rule one was don't break the furniture?\
'''Ryusuke:''' That's rule four.\
'''Celeste:''' Isn't rule four if in doubt, be sarcastic?\
'''Ryusuke:''' No, that's rule two.\
'''Celeste:''' You have too many rules.
* ShutUpHannibal: Ryusuke gives one to [[spoiler: Evan]] in chapter 19. Combined with TheReasonYouSuckSpeech and SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids.
-->'''Ryusuke:''' [[spoiler:Shut the hell up! Heaven? Don't make me laugh, there's no such thing! You're just a spoiled child after an ideal world that can never exist! You want to kill liars? There will always be more! You want to rid the world of treachery, to make it a place where only the honest can live, is that right? Don't be so fucking naive! That world can never exist! Within humanity, there will always exist evil, because without it, good can't exist either! So get your head out of your ass!]]
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: See above.
** Ryusuke also throws one at Rhea in the first chapter of the reboot.
* SociopathicHero: Styles, particularly as he [[PayEvilUntoEvil doesn't mind killing]]
* TakeThat: WordOfGod states that Dean seeing the faces of all his comrades before his Second Wind against Deva is one of these to the original summary on this page that mentioned the story deconstructing ThePowerOfFriendship. They tell the readers not to make assumptions.
* TalkingIsAFreeAction: Subverted. Ryusuke and Celeste share banter ''in the middle of a battle'', and end up taking the full brunt of an attack from [[spoiler: Jessop]]. They were asking for it, really. Lampshaded by Ryusuke.
--> "I've changed rule one. Talking is ''not'' a free action."
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: See ShutUpHannibal above for example. [[spoiler: Evan]] also delivers one to Celeste in the same chapter.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: The entire reason Dean gets a HeroicSecondWind against Deva.
* TheTease: Rhea seems to be becoming this to Ryusuke.
