3Michael Brunswick Ritchie (November 28, 1938 – April 16, 2001) was an American film and television director.

5Born in Wisconsin, Ritchie and his family later moved to Berkeley, California. From there, he attended [[IvyLeagueForEveryone Harvard University]], where he became involved in theater and interested in directing. He worked on TV series before making his feature directorial debut with ''Film/DownhillRacer'' (1969). Ritchie was especially known for making sports-related movies and comedies. His last film as a director was ''Film/ASimpleWish'' (1997).

7Ritchie was also the author of ''Please Stand By'', a 1994 non-fiction book about the history of television from the 1920s to the 1940s.
