Dakari-King Mykan (real name: Michael Mikulak) is a Canadian fanfiction writer, best known for works such as ''Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds'' and ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic''. He began writing fanfiction in the early 2000s as part of the ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' fandom. These fanfics, where he championed the couple of Davis and Kari (the word Dakari being his portmanteau for the couple), led to him becoming a prominent figure in a shipping FlameWar. He and several others ended up getting banned. He would eventually return in 2006, now primarily writing for the ''WesternAnimation/{{Teen Titans|2003}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Sixteen}}'' fandoms. He would steadily gain infamy over the years, gaining the attention of the now-defunct fanfiction MST website Project A.F.T.E.R., and culminating in the release of ''My Little Unicorn: Magic is Believing'' in 2012, a HateFic based on ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic''.

Mykan also has a presence on Website/YouTube, where he is best known for ''Beast Boy's Magic Voices'', a series of ''Teen Titans'' [[FanVid AMVs]] edited with Microsoft Paint and Windows Movie Maker. He also does a series titled Teen Titan Idol, an extension of Magic Voices where fans can vote on which characters get further music videos. Despite the reception to his fanfics, his videos are more popular, with over 10,000 subscribers and a few of his videos breaking the million-view mark.

!!Commonly Used Tropes in his Stories
* AccusationFic: Mykan's bread-and-butter genre. He usually refers to them as "Punishment Fics," though he has since taken to referring to them by the trope name.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Beast Boy and Davis, by the truckload. In Mykan's works, their entire purpose is to angst about how they DidNotGetTheGirl and use that as the justification for everything they do, to the point where [[ExaggeratedTrope they bear virtually no resemblance to their canon selves]].
* AdaptationalSexuality: Jakotsu, a gay character from ''Inuyasha,'' was made straight in ''The Super Devil and the Band of Seven.'' A now-removed note implies that this was because the author didn't want to depict a "[[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment gay homosexual]]" character.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Sometimes, Mykan's preferred characters turn straight-up villainous as a result of his preferred pairings with them never happening. ''Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds'' is the most well-known example of this.
** This crosses over with AdaptationalHeroism in ''The Super Smash Brothers of Melee'', a ''Teen Titans''/''Super Smash Bros.'' Melee CrossOver. In that fanfic, the game's default characters are protagonists, while the secret characters are antagonists. This leads to [[EvilIsHammy Bowser]] being a hero and [[CowardlyLion Luigi]], [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Jigglypuff]], [[DeadlyDoctor Dr. Mario]] (literally just [[TheHero Mario]] in a doctor's outfit), [[JokeCharacter Pichu]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Falco]], [[WarriorPrince Marth]], [[KidHero Young Link]], [[AChildShallLeadThem Roy]], and [[TheEveryman Mr. Game & Watch]] being villains. The only characters this doesn't apply to are [[EvilOverlord Ganondorf]] and [[BloodKnight Mewtwo]], and even then the latter is DependingOnTheWriter.
* AllJustADream: A common ending for Mykan fanfics, including ''7teen: The Mall Demons'' and ''Marks for Effort: Twilight's Treatment.''
%%* AlmostKiss: In ''[=TTHSCity=] Musical: WASP'', Terra and Garfield nearly smooch but end up accidentally headbutting instead when the alarms go off.
* AlphaBitch: Jackie and Jillian, a pair of high-schoolers based on Terra's friends from the ''Teen Titans'' episode "[[Recap/TeenTitansS5E13ThingsChange Things Change]]". In fanfics involving Jump City High School, they are almost guaranteed to appear to insult Beast Boy and subsequently be humiliated or die.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: If a member of an alien race attacks our heroes, then the entire race is evil.
* AnachronismStew:
** In ''Brother of the CORPSE BRIDE'', the character Mykan shows off a dress he made for Queen Elizabeth the First, who ruled from 1558-1603, yet earlier mentions that his parents died in a car accident; the very first car accident occurred in 1869.
** A battle occurs at Big Ben in ''LIBERTY'S KIDS: Power Rangers REVOLUTION'' despite the fic taking place in the year 1776 and Big Ben not being constructed until 1859.
* ArtifactOfDoom:
** The Sword of Hatred from ''The Force of Hatred'' contains the sealed hatred of a long-forgotten war.
** The Dark Prognosticus from ''The End of Ends'' contains powers that could let its wielder destroy the universe.
* AuthorAppeal: All of his fics are based around his own interests, usually involving shipping his [[invoked]]FanPreferredCouple or punishing the girl of that couple for not hooking up with the guy (and also punishing said guy for the same thing by either killing or distancing him). In addition to that, many of his not-couple-related fics usually tend to contain {{Fight Scene}}s, [[ThatRemindsMeOfASong musical numbers]], and StuffBlowingUp.
** Mykan ''loves'' ''Franchise/PowerRangers'', having watched every single series that has ever come out, and has proudly admitted to his detractors that he believes any work of fiction can be made into a series where the characters beat up bad guys, pilot giant robots, and make monsters explode. So far, he's done this with ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosMelee'', ''WesternAnimation/LibertysKids'', and the aforementioned ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' and [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls its spinoff]], among various others.
** For his ''MLP'' fanfics, he has proudly admitted several times that he only cares about torturing the cast and making them feel awful about their lives, making Twilight Sparkle fail at her job, and torturing Princess Cadance for getting happily married. He's also quite fond of [[TakeThat putting things in to insult his haters]], such as [[invoked]][[ItWasHisSled that one scene]] from ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure #10''.
* AuthorAvatar: Several of them.
** An interpretation of [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy]] in ''Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds'' and entries #3, #8 and #10 of ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure'' (actually, he and [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Davis Motomiya]] tend to fit this bill no matter the fic).
** [[Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic Lightning Dawn, Grand Ruler Celesto, human Mykan Stevens, and pony Mykan Stevens]].
** From ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure'', we have Talon Ted in ''Pride and Punishment'' and Stone Heart in ''Writer's Blockade/Write a Wrong''.
** There's also the curious case of the "Mykan" characters, such as Mykan Jaden in his ''Dueling Drama Much'' series and Mykan Stevens in ''Starfleet Magic''. Mykan insists that these characters are an aversion of the trope, citing the fact that they often do things that he would disapprove of in real life. However, in HypotheticalCasting of his fanfics, he always has the Mykan characters voiced by himself, and many of them do espouse Mykan's beliefs.
* AuthorTract: One of the primary criticisms of his works is the fact that he doesn't build characters, he uses characters to expose his own viewpoints in a rather unsubtle way.
* BabiesEverAfter: Mykan [[https://www.deviantart.com/dakari-king-mykan/art/Beast-Boy-and-Terra-s-Babies-607291500 has created]] his own fankids for Beast Boy and Terra: a boy named Creator/{{Greg|Cipes}} Steve Logan and a girl named Creator/{{Ashley|Johnson}} Creator/{{Tara|Strong}} Logan. Appearance and power-wise, [[GenerationXerox they're basically gender-swapped versions of their parents]]. Also, all couples in Starfleet Magic get babies. In one chapter, three couples give birth simultaneously.
* BileFascination: He watches ''MLP'' because he hates it and wants to see what to change.[[invoked]]
* BrokenAesop: Despite the things he says about friendship being worthless and all that, his characters tend to be a tightly knit team that rely on each other to get the job done.
* BuffySpeak: Even in the narration, Mykan tends to overuse terms like "and stuff", "all that", or [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs "stuff like that"]].
* TheBully: Expect at least one character in any of his fics who happens to bully the main character(s) [[FreudianExcuse into becoming who they are]]. Also expect the heroes to belittle others for no real reason.
* ButtMonkey: There are often several punching bags throughout his fics, usually [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Kari Kamiya]] in the fics where she's with TK and not Davis, and [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic just about the entirety of Equestria]], namely [[LoveGoddess Princess Cadance]] and [[{{Bookworm}} Twilight Sparkle]].
* CantTakeCriticism: His characters tend to either ignore or react very negatively to criticism.
* CatharsisFactor: [[invoked]] Invoked. Mykan freely admits that his fics are meant to punish the characters for either teasing his CreatorsFavorite, [[DidNotGetTheGirl not getting his girl of choice]], or in the case of the MLP stories, not showing the darker side to life that he feels so strongly about, all so he can feel just a little bit better about himself for an estimate of less than a day. [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] with his non-punishment MLP fics, where he only writes them to prove that people will mock him anyway and actively despises doing so.
* CharacterShilling: His fics constantly have the characters either be made useless so his preferred characters are seen in the right, or superior in skill, or the characters themselves outright state how much better the heroes are than them. On the side of certain villains, like [[Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds Count Logan]], they feel sorry for him once it's revealed that [[spoiler:[[TheUnreveal he's Beast Boy]]]], in spite of the atrocities he's committed.
* {{Chickification}}: Every time he writes a canon female character, all there is to them is that they're the love interest of a male character.
* CluelessAesop: The fics ''try'' to teach lessons, in the loosest sense of the word, but he constantly contradicts his own Aesop time and time again.
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: Oftentimes, he'll make entire characters that hate the way his universes operate, [[ThisLoserIsYou just to paint them as losers or villains]]. {{Iron|y}}ically, [[EnsembleDarkHorse they end up becoming the most well-liked characters in his fics.]] Naturally, the exceptions are [[AuthorAvatar Beast Boy and Davis Motomiya]], who are portrayed as always right about whatever they're complaining about.
* ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch: Actually averted with both Mykan and his characters. Just because Mykan hates a show doesn't stop him from watching it religiously. Several of his characters share this odd trait.
* ContrivedCoincidence: In ''Child Soldiers'', Kari becomes a surrogate mother after the passing of her husband. Against all odds, the sperm she's impregnated with comes from Davis, who had donated his sperm years ago so as to help those who couldn't have children.
* DarkIsEvil: If something is depicted in one of Mykan's fanfics as evil, it will generally be described as "dark" (i.e. The Dark Prognosticus in The End of Ends, The Dark King and the Dark Planet in Starfleet Magic.) Even when the villains don't have ''dark'' in their name or weapons, they will still be associated with darkness, like Stammadon or Titan.
* DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest: [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Terra, Starfire]], [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Celestia, Fluttershy, Treehugger, Sunset Shimmer]], [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Princess Zelda]]... Really, if they happen to have a love interest, this is what becomes of them.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: Mykan is a bit well-known for this; he'll tend to give a description of someone or something right after it's shown to the audience. A good example is when he explained that [[Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic Grand Ruler Celesto]] is a tri-horned alicorn, [[CaptainObvious then immediately went on to say he has three horns]]. Additionally, several fics have the line "vanished[[labelnote:*]]or some synonym thereof[[/labelnote]], and was gone." Then there's this bit from ''Friendship is Failure: The End of Ends'':
--->"Count Logan looked very displeased as he tapped his cane softly while glaring at his minions. He spoke in a deep dark voice, 'I am displeased.'"
* DestructiveSavior: The titular protagonist of ''TTHS/CITY Musical III: The Phantom of the City.'' His solution to save the citizens of Jump City from a greedy authoritarian mayor is to blow up everything he tries to build.
* DeusExMachina: Through some forced way, usually an EleventhHourSuperpower or a ContrivedCoincidence, these plots usually just resolve themselves in an instant.
* DiabolusExMachina: Mykan's storytelling philosophy is that if the guy does not get the girl, he suffers/dies. As such, many of Mykan's fanfics end with one or more main protagonists dead or traumatized, often through arbitrary means. The biggest example would be ''We're Moving On,'' a story in which Twilight Sparkle successfully convinces Beast Boy to move on from Terra, only for Beast Boy to be gunned down by an unknown assailant almost immediately afterwards (Mykan heavily implies in the Author's note it was himself that did it).
* DidNotDoTheBloodyResearch: Often uses the word in question when emphasizing something in his fics or blogs.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Defied and inverted. The female abusers are actually handled well, and aren't above consequences. It's the male ones who are mishandled and often treated as the real victims.
* DramaticEllipsis: [[SelfDemonstratingArticle Used very...,]] ''[[SelfDemonstratingArticle very...]]'' [[SelfDemonstratingArticle liberally..., even outside of his own works... It's... a]] CreatorThumbprint. WordOfGod is...that the reason behind this quirk...is because he learned...how to write dialogue...by reading DVD subtitles...which apparently...use lots of ellipses.
%%zce* DrunkOnMilk: A recurring theme in his fanfics. Usually, this involves Beast Boy.
* DumbMuscle: Usually, his characters are far more competent in terms of brawn than brains.
* EntitledToHaveYou: [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Davis]] and [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy]] are always entitled to have Kari and Terra in works starring them; otherwise, they either end up dead or distanced from everyone else. Also, any and all villains he makes and are supposed to be sympathetic act like that to women they like.
* {{Expy}}: Many of his characters are based on ones from other works, only [[FlatCharacter without their personality]] and what makes them likable. Examples include Count Logan (of [[VideoGame/SuperPaperMario Count Bleck]]) and Goldwin (of [[Series/TodaysSpecial Jeff Hyslop]]).
** The "Manimal," Beast Boy's secret identity in ''Some Things Never Change,'' is heavily based on ComicBook/SpiderMan, particularly as depicted in the Sam Raimi films. His costume, on the other hand, is based on [[Series/PowerRangersLostGalaxy the Magna Defender.]]
** Erin Samus, from ''TTHS/CITY Musical III: The Phantom of the City,'' whose [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} inspiration]] should be readily apparent.
* FantasticRacism: Either a race is good, or they're evil. [[BlackAndWhiteMorality There is no good member of a bad species, and there is almost no bad member of a good species.]]
* FightScene: One of the few things Mykan actually cares about. His primary inspiration for his fight scenes is Power Rangers, hence the emphasis on StuffBlowingUp. However, some have likened his fight scenes to a child playing with action figures.
* FlatCharacter: Frequently. Mykan says that personalities of a character get in the way of the plot, and believes that character development tends to overcomplicate the character, and so he will often simply give his characters a single trait for a personality. The same goes for the canon characters, who are subject to {{Flanderization}} to the nth degree and become caricatures of their true selves.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: Characters will often forget that the situation they're in could be easily avoided if they just use their abilities to make it easier.
%%* GenderFlip: In [[https://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/c/digimon-fan-fiction-dragon-ball-z-gt-fan-fiction/digiball-z-the-movie-/128453/441154 "Digiball Z: THE MOVIE!"]], Jakotsu of ''Manga/InuYasha'' was changed into a woman because, as he stated in a note that has since been removed, Mykan couldn't "stand anymore of those repulsive Homosexual acts."
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Mykan's tendency to write [[FlatCharacter characters that rarely go above a single trait]] extends to many of his villains, whose one trait is "they're evil" and mainly exist to give the heroes something to fight. Any personality, backstory, and motivation they get is usually limited to "[[ForTheEvulz doing evil things because they can]] (e.g. Titan from ''Starfleet Magic'')" or "because [[AlwaysChaoticEvil that's what their species is like]] (e.g. the Insectos from ''Starfleet Magic'')", or because they were dumped by women (e.g. Count Logan). Oddly enough, in a ''Digimon'' fic he has written known as "''Hatred''", this does '''''[[OOCIsSeriousBusiness not]]''''' apply to [[spoiler:[=MetalEtemon=]]], who surprisingly keeps his pre-existing canon personality of being a rather silly villain with an alarming amount of firepower behind him and serious competency than most would otherwise expect just by looking at him.
* GenreShift:
** Mykan has attempted a few stand-alone fics done in (what he thinks is) a near approximation of the original style of ''My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic''. Usually, these fics are prefaced by his comments on how much he hates them, or how “awful” they are. Ironically enough, these are the fics that have the best reception on a site made for fans of ''FIM'', but every time someone makes a comment praising these fics, it angers Mykan considerably. One has to wonder what his endgame was in writing these fics when he was just going to bash them and the people who liked them, but the haters get a quick chuckle by hitting “fave” when Mykan thinks they’re not supposed to...and watching the fireworks.
** Similarly, Mykan's ''7Teen'' series tends to stick close to the style of the ''6Teen'' series. Unlike the aforementioned MLP fics, he does actually like this series.
%%* HairTriggerTemper:
* HerrDoktor: Dr. Nobel Von-Richter, a recurring character in his Teen Titans fanfics, is a stereotypical German scientist who [[GadgeteerGenius invents gadgets]] for Beast Boy to use.
* HighSchoolAU: The ''Teen Titans High School Musical'' series, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin as the name implies]], features the Teen Titans as normal highschoolers[[labelnote:*]]Except strangely for ''Teen Titans High School Musical II,'' which not only doesn't feature the Titans as high school students, but is canon to Mykan's Teen Titans series[[/labelnote]]. Later installments of the series, now rebranded as ''Teen Titans High School/City Musical'', [[ArtifactTitle stray from the high school aspect]] and feature more action.
%%* HijackedByGanon: In his [[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/438966/yu-gi-oh-e-quest "Yu-Gi-Oh E-Quest"]] fic, a ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'' fic where [[Franchise/YuGiOh Duel Monsters]] is the focus, the fic suddenly introduces the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' as duelists with zero foreshadowing. The author's notes all but confirm that [[AuthorAvatar Beast Boy]] is the real identity of the villain named Masquerade, putting this trope into practice in a way that even the TropeNamer would find abrupt.
* HypotheticalCasting: When going over his own characters in bios, he's prone to noting who he imagines to voice the characters. As an example, he's had several characters in ''Starfleet Magic'' (such as Buddy Rose and Spike's Dragon Knight form) "voiced" by Creator/MattHill, and his main couple of Lightning Dawn and Starla Shine are voiced by Creator/GregCipes and Creator/AshleyJohnson. Does [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans this]] sound [[WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce familiar]]? As mentioned earlier, he likes to [[DescendedCreator cast himself in many roles]] as well.
* IdiotBall: Plots in these fics require the characters to be uncharacteristically stupid enough to let them happen. Even his own {{Original Character}}s tend to vary in intelligence from chapter to chapter.
* IKEAErotica: Despite Mykan's well-known vow of celibacy, Mykan has written a few sex scenes, most notably in ''A Wedding Story for Davis and Kari.'' It is decidedly ''un-''erotic. Then there's [[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/389427/artistic-integrity "Artistic Integrity,"]] which turned out to not even be his writing, as it was all part of a ComplexityAddiction-laden plan to expose his haters.
* InLoveWithLove: Mykan tends to write romantic relationships with the male character wanting to be in a relationship [[SingleTargetSexuality with a female character of their choosing]] for the sake of being in a relationship with them. The male characters typically have no regard for what the female wants out of this, as evidenced when the male [[TookALevelInJerkass becomes a complete jerkass]] at best and an OmnicidalManiac at worst, [[NeverMyFault all while blaming the female for making them like this]].
* InNameOnly: Whenever he writes canon characters, they're usually {{Flanderiz|ation}}ed or OutOfCharacter [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs (or both)]], so the only recognizable thing about them are their names.
* InformedAbility: A character's supposed "greatness" is usually only told through narration and never demonstrated in the story itself.
* InformedAttribute: If a character has ''any'' other attributes aside from their basics, they're usually told instead of shown.
* InformedFlaw: If [[AlwaysChaoticEvil an entire race is supposedly comprised of only evil beings]], it is only told and never shown.
* IResembleThatRemark: Whenever Mykan has a character criticize someone else for something, that character usually possesses the trait they're criticizing the other for.
* {{Irony}}: He hates ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Friendship is Magic]]'', yet he keeps watching it anyway. He states that it's "to research what to change".
* ItsAllAboutMe: A common theme throughout Mykan's work is that his {{Author Avatar}}s only care about what interests them, while giving no one else the time of day.
* {{Jerkass}}: Just about any main character in these fics comes across as this, due to Mykan’s inept grasp of heroism.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: A recurring theme in Mykan's works.
* LovingAShadow: Because all the characters are [[FlatCharacter defined by one trait]], couples simply love each other for what they are instead of who they are.
* ManChild: Several of his characters tend to do plenty of childish things despite being teenagers or full-grown adults. They've been known to [[Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic play hopscotch and take it seriously]], and oftentimes Mykan's own {{Author Avatar}}s just throw extended (often violent) temper tantrums regarding the fact that they DidNotGetTheGirl.
* ManlyTears: When someone cries, they only show these, in order to symbolize that they're (supposedly) more mature than everyone else.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: In quite a few of these stories, the best way to deal with a problem is to kill everyone who can be associated with the enemy.
* NarratingTheObvious: Mykan always feels the need to do this, stating things that should be blatantly obvious to the reader.
* NeverASelfMadeWoman:
** In the original version of ''Davis & Kari: A Wedding Story'', Davis uses his vast wealth to send Kari to the finest college in the world and offers to make her a kindergarten teacher should she ask. Additionally, when Jun graduates, she's given a doctor's rate even though she's supposed to start out as a nurse simply because she's the sister of Davis, "the most powerful [=DigiDestined=]".
** It is noted in the first ''Starfleet Humans'' that human Celesto gave Celestia and Luna their jobs out of pity.
* NeverMyFault: He has a number of characters who refuse to accept responsibility for their actions.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: His characters constantly receive new abilities on the go without any hinting of their presence beforehand, usually in the form of a DeusExMachina.
* NoEndorHolocaust: No one ever really dies in the background in these fics, even though fights within these stories can cause massive damage to their surroundings. People only die if they are outright stated to die.
* NonIndicativeName: Despite the name, ''Teen Titans High School Musical II'' has little to do with other entries in the series: The Titans go incognito as teachers rather than being normal students and furthermore, it is considered canon, whereas other entries in the series are set in an AlternateUniverse. In fact, none of the Teen Titans High School Musical fanfics are sequels to each other except for the Christmas special, which follows the original.
* NostalgiaFilter: Mykan hates anything new and continues to watch and use older materials. For example, he has admitted to preferring ''Series/Stingray1964'' over ''WesternAnimation/AtlantisTheLostEmpire''.
* NotAsYouKnowThem: Whenever he writes a canon character they're either: A. {{Flanderiz|ation}}ed to only one trait, B. completely OutOfCharacter, or C. [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs both A and B]].
* OnceAnEpisode: In his early ''Teen Titans'' fanfics, there would usually be a ColdOpen where the Titans try (and fail) to catch Slade. These were phased out when he renamed his series of fanfics ''Titans A-Force'' because he ran out of ideas for Slade chases and wanted to shift the focus to villains he created.
* OneTrueLove: A recurring theme in Mykan's works is that, when a character falls in love with someone, they're only allowed to stay in love with that someone. If they break up for whatever reason, or they're rejected, their life becomes a living hell from then on. Mykan's favorite target is Beast Boy, though Davis and Spike are runner ups. On the flip side, characters that are still in relationships go one of two ways. If they're a canon pairing (Robin X Starfire) or a hugely shipped one (T.K. X Kari), their lives are still made hell because the other guy didn't get his dream girl. If they're a couple that gets together within the story (Lightning X Starla), they are absolutely not allowed to break up or otherwise fight, even temporarily, or they will be punished for it.
* OrwellianRetcon: It's not uncommon for chapters in his works to be rewritten in order to address comments made about them. Notable examples include ''Friendship is Failure'' having Helper Soul's backstory being changed and any mention of Talon Ted withdrawing his donation being removed, complete with an author's note claiming that [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial he never rescinded his donation and any implications of it are false]], and Ted's name becoming spelled "Talon-Ted" with a hyphen.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Another Davis-centric ''Digimon Adventure 02'' fic he wrote, known simply as "''Hatred''", subverts quite a few of the infamous tropes usually associated with Mykan's works.
** The fic ends on a cliffhanger to avoid having to kill Davis as per his usual standard course of action.
** Kari and T.K. break up, but the cliffhanger leaves things uncertain for her and everyone else
** Paildramon and Imperialdramon actually get to appear, as opposed to Mykan either not bothering to or using an OC Ultimate or Mega-level Digimon in place of those two.
** The whole plot revolves around the idea that [[spoiler:the Digital World is an RPGMechanicsVerse]], an idea that actually holds quite a bit of credence in official lore.
** The BigBad of the fic is [[spoiler:a reborn [=MetalEtemon=], who still has his usual personality, and actually remembering the fact he can use Concert Crush to drain other Digimon of their power to fight, so everyone sans Veemon gets inflicted with a simple case of WorfHadTheFlu rather than outright being affected by TheWorfEffect in the fic. Also, despite going up against Imperialdramon Fighter Mode by the end of it, [=MetalEtemon=] is so heavily beefed up by exploiting the RPGMechanicsVerse that he became a genuine SNKBoss, compared to Mykan's other BigBad villains who couldn't remotely compare.]]
-->'''Creator/MF217:''' Ya know for once I never expected to ever read a Mykan fic and have my only issue of complaint being the issue favoritism of Davis and have no issue with everything else if only because Mykan oddly enough did something that could plausibly happen in canon events this time in a sense in regards to literally everything else.
** Subverted in ''Starfleet Magic Season X''. His stories are infamous for how ''poorly'' decent guys react to a breakup instigated by women. and how any time true love is broken is portrayed as the worst thing someone can do. Here, it appears that Mykan is writing an actually justified breakup scene: Lightning Dawn is [[FountainOfYouth reverted into a child]], and Starla makes it clear that she can't overlook that, so it ''appears'' that she temporarily breaks up because [[PaedoHunt pedophillia is wrong]]. However, she still states that they're husband and wife, and any attempts to say otherwise (even if the potential breakup is only ''temporary'') [[https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/420369431273668608/1090002591871680532/Apparently_they_never_broke_up.png are met with Mykan's scorn.]] The scene still makes clear the relationship is now entirely platonic though.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Mykan has an odd fixation on demons in his work, believing them to be the ultimate villains. Naturally, this means that they are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil snarling monsters obsessed with destroying everything]] with surprisingly little in common with each other or traditional depictions of demons.
* ThePowerOfHate: He's a firm believer in it, casually explaining that if someone tries to use ThePowerOfFriendship or ThePowerOfLove, the way to fight back is with all the hatred you can muster. It's also why he hates ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Friendship is Magic]]'' as much as he does; the sheer amount of positivity in the show actually ''hurts'' him.
* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: Converting other races, destroying planets, unfair prosecution, and terrorism are a-ok because the protagonists are doing it. Beast Boy, Davis, and most of his ''Starfleet Magic'' and ''Friendship is Failure'' [=OCs=] (among others) can all attest to this. On the flip side, if the villains or Mykan's non-{{Author Avatar}}s do it, [[DoubleStandard they're immediately in the wrong]].
* PsychopathicManchild: A few of his villains, when you get right down to their motivations, are just them throwing a temper tantrum over not getting what they want. [[Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds Count Logan]] and any other fics that have [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy]] and [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Davis Motomiya]] being DrivenToVillainy are some notable examples.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: While his protagonists can do some terrible things in the name of spite, Mykan despises rape, and as a result it's never used in his stories by a sympathetic character.
* RecycledScript: Mykan has written no less than ''five'' ''Teen Titans'' fanfics involving the aftermath of "Things Change". Two of them use a film adaptation as the FramingDevice, both of which involve Beast Boy getting possessed by an evil being and going on a killing spree. He has also made five different versions of ''The End of Ends'', including a ''Friendship is Failure'' variant. He has also begun a version of ''The Force of Hatred'' with ''My Little Pony'' characters.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: In his works, characters who transition [[HeelFaceTurn from bad to good]] often [[HeelFaceDoorSlam get killed almost immediately after]].
* RevengeFic: His ''other'' bread and butter; just about all of his fics are based around punishing characters for not doing what he wanted them to do (usually for his OTP not coming to pass). ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic'' is the most extreme example of this, as it's essentially a HateFic dedicated to dropping his brand of "reality" onto Equestria and making the characters suffer for teaching ThePowerOfFriendship. ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure'' is this in a nutshell.
* RougeAnglesOfSatin: Mykan isn't exactly the most prolific speller out there; more often than not, his works will have misspelled words abound and [[FailedASpotCheck failed spot checks]] galore. It's worth noting that he learned his English from reading DVD subtitles and that the word processor he uses apparently has a very poor spell checker. That said, he has also said that he rarely proofreads chapters before release.
* RPGMechanicsVerse: Part of the main plot of ''Hatred'' reveals that the Digital World effectively has a functional form of experience points system and leveling. To some uninformed, it could be Mykan's typical tropes in action to some, except the idea of ''Digimon'' media having a near perpetual RPG Mechanics 'Verse in some given capacity or another has actually been part of the series since surprisingly earlier on than most tend to think, and the whole Survival of the Fittest mentality of the Digimon is actually part of what heavily reinforces this trope in canon works.
* RuleOfCool: This is an InvokedTrope on Mykan's part. He has stated multiple times that he only writes what's "cool" to him. Usually, what looks cool happens to come from a villain, and that villain's scene will be used outside its original context, oftentimes for one of the heroes (for example, using [[Series/PowerRangersWildForce Master Org]]'s backstory for [[Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure Helper Soul]]).
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Certain characters only exist for the sake of having a love interest. ''[[Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic Starfleet Magic]]'' has Starla Shine right from the get-go, but also has canon characters [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Celestia, Fluttershy, Treehugger]], [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls and Sunset Shimmer]] become this to Celesto, Rhymey, Buddy Rose, and human Artie Bristles, respectively. His other works aren't safe from this, as in fics where [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy isn't without Terra]], she ends up becoming this, and Starfire can usually be defined by her love for Robin. [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Kari]] can also usually be established by either her love for Davis in fics where they're together, or for TK in the ones where she isn't [[DisproportionateRetribution (which she must be punished for every time)]].
* SeriesMascot: [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy]] ([[NotAsYouKnowThem or rather, his interpretation of him]]) might as well be this, considering a good chunk of his videos are of Beast Boy [[ThatRemindsMeOfASong singing a random song of his choice]], [[Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds one of his more notable fics]] has him as the main character [[spoiler:and BigBad]], and he was the main focus of three chapters of ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure''.
** For a secondary mascot, we have his interpretation of [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Daisuke "Davis" Motomiya]]. Heck, it's in the name: ''Da''kari-King Mykan.
** The Dakari-King persona itself is a bit of a mascot, and even has an origin story on Website/YouTube.
* ShowDontTell: Mykan often states what happens in the story instead of actually showing it, leaving nothing to the reader's imagination whatsoever. This seems to be intentional on Mykan's part, who likens his fanfics to TV scripts, where all the actions are described in explicit detail.
* SignatureStyle: {{Fix Fic}}s leaning towards the "plot" end of the SlidingScaleOfPlotVersusCharacters, often with characters related to whatever is being fixed getting [[WhatTheHellHero called out for their actions]], a couple of {{Author Avatar}}s thrown in, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking overuse of ellipses]]. When possible, there will also be plenty of musical numbers, explosions and journeys to space.
* SingingVoiceDissonance: A rather peculiar example. In ''Some Things Never Change,'' Von-Richter's BIGRAT machine gives Beast Boy, among other things, the ability to perfectly imitate any male singing voice. This is mostly used to justify the wide range of songs Beast Boy sings in the Magic Voices videos.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Mykan tends to write some of his favorite male characters (Beast Boy, Davis, Spike) as having eyes for only one girl (Terra, Kari, Rarity) with said male characters not taking it well when the female refuses to accept the male's feelings for them, either [[TookALevelInJerkass Taking a Level in Jerkass]] or becoming an OmnicidalManiac because they feel they will never be able to love again.
* SkewedPriorities: Often, [[JerksAreWorseThanVillains so-called jerks are treated as worse than villains]]:
** Count Logan of ''The End of Ends'' goes after his former friends' homes and delivers breaking speeches to them in acts of revenge. Not once does he do the same with villains who fought him before he turned evil.
** In the eighth story of ''Friendship is Failure'', Garfield rants and raves at the heroes, as he blames their magic for destroying his house, rather than, say, the villains who [[spoiler:were responsible for him being an orphan]] and stole and used said magic to transform him and wreak havoc.
** In ''Starfleet Humans'', Lightning is quite vitriolic towards Principal Celestia, a put-upon, ordinary woman who's trying to enforce her school's rules, even beating her up at one point. By contrast, Lightning is not nearly as disdainful towards Sapphira, a would-be tyrant who had taken something valuable from him.
* SlidingScaleOfPlotVersusCharacters: Heavy on the "plot" side of the spectrum. He has admitted that he doesn't care at all about character and only focuses on the plot of a story. [[https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/762627/contradicting-beliefs This blog very nicely, and frustratingly, sums up his views on storytelling in general.]]
* SmokeShield: Don't be surprised if characters attack an opponent with everything they have only for this to occur.
* SpearCounterpart: Oftentimes, a character will be [[GenderFlip a male version of another character]], only [[FlatCharacter without their personality]].
** Lightning Dawn to [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight Sparkle]].
** Grand Ruler Celesto to Princess Celestia.
** Rhymey to [[Series/TodaysSpecial Muffy Mouse]].
** Abra Kadabra to Trixie.
** Khan Swift to [[Film/MightyMorphinPowerRangersTheMovie Dulcea]].
** The Demonites/D-Man Knights to [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsRainbowRocks The Dazzlings]].
* SpotlightStealingSquad: The main characters of his fics fall into this, due to how much they overshadow everyone else. Either one of the cast takes precedence, or his {{Original Character}}s do.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: One minute, certain characters will be made utterly useless against a threat. The next, they overpower it with everything they've got.
* SuddenlyShouting: Another thing that's common in these works is the tendency for characters to [[SelfDemonstratingArticle SUDDENLY SHOUT AT OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THEY'RE ANGRY!]] This even applies to Mykan online.
* SympathyForTheDevil: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Though this is definitely the case for a few select villains in Mykan's works, the author himself doesn't truly feel this way about any of the villains. The only real exceptions are [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls Sunset Shimmer]] in ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic'' (notable in that she's the only redeemed character who isn't PutOnABus or KilledOffForReal), and [[Fanfic/TheEndOfEnds Count Logan]] who gets all the narrative's pity because [[spoiler:Terra didn't stay with him]], as well as [[spoiler:every other Beast Boy incarnation that turns evil for the same reason.]].
* TakeOurWordForIt: Mykan always describes what's going on and how great or terrible it is rather than showing the actual effects. Literally everything is shown through exposition.
* TakeThatCritics:
** He once wrote an entire fic portraying his critics as villains called ''Project After'', which is named for a group that riffed bad fan fiction, including his. In the story, they are depicted as a supervillain organization devoted to destroying the concept of fiction. Naturally, they tore this one to shreds.
** In the original version of the fifth chapter of ''The End of Ends II'', a "dumb alien boy" who acts like a maniac mocks Count Logan and is murdered for it. He is based on a critic of Mykan's known as Maniak.
** Another take that to Maniak appears in ''The Force of Hatred''. In that story, Jackie's boyfriend is revealed to be "Manny," a foreign exchange student who bullies Beast Boy and is subsequently killed. Jillian's boyfriend in the story, Alex, is believed to be named for Al Cone, the person who brought Mykan to Project A.F.T.E.R.'s attention.
** Back in the days of the Dakari-Takari Flame War, Mykan infamously wrote a [[MissingEpisode now lost]] fanfic in which his AuthorAvatar, the Dakari King, fought prominent Takari shippers and kidnapped them with Pokeballs. This is believed to be the fanfic that got Mykan's first Fanfiction.net account banned.
** In entry #5 of ''Fanfic/FriendshipIsFailure'', there is [[BigSisterBully Ath-Lita]] who's based on Cherry-Lei.
** As it turns out, ''all'' of his ''Digimon/Teen Titans'' fics are this as explained in [[https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/844905/way-i-portray-some-characters this blog.]] He writes them OutOfCharacter [[invoked]] because he wishes to mimic how he believes his {{hatedom}} acts, and [[WhyDidYouMakeMeHitYou openly blames them for his writing style]].
** ''Fanfic/MyBravePonyStarfleetMagic'' has several examples of straw critics to be humiuliated. Ace Ray, Brass Bolt, Windy Bag, [[invoked]][[DieForOurShip Clipper]], the IDIOTS and possibly Titan's agent that called Starfleet conquerors.
* TautologicalTemplar: In quite a few of Mykan's fics, [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy]]/[[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Davis]] tend to do plenty of things that would be morally questionable at best, such as starting protests in the street or blowing up certain buildings and monuments. Yet because they're the heroes of these fics, their actions are portrayed as heroic.
* ThatRemindsMeOfASong: Mykan loves this trope. Out of the blue, he'll shoehorn a song from another source (''Film/SinginInTheRain'', ''Series/TodaysSpecial'', ''Series/TheMuppetShow'', ''Film/HighSchoolMusical'', Music/MichaelJackson, you name it), just for the sake of having it there. And oftentimes, he'll take the song completely out of context, or change the lyrics to fit to his own. The "Beast Boy's Magic Voices" series of videos on Website/YouTube are this trope personified, as they feature the titular character, well... [[CaptainObvious singing]].
* ThisLoserIsYou: Detractors of Mykan's works are given entire characters based on them, which are then painted as loser strawmen with terrible lives, and sometimes the characters outright become a VillainOfTheWeek.
* TookALevelInJerkass: When Mykan's favourite characters aren't being horrific villains, they're being utter jerks.
%%* UnusualEuphemism: Recently Mykan has had characters refer to someone or something that provides no challenge as "jailbait" and "baby food".
* VillainBall: Like the heroes, the villains of these stories [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo would have gotten away with their plans, if it weren't for]] that [[YouMeddlingKids meddling narrative]].
* VillainDecay: A common symptom of villains in these fics due to the above-mentioned {{Flanderization}}; canon antagonists who are usually somewhat competent and effective at their job are made into one-dimensional bad guys with no semblance of their old personality. This is deliberate on Mykan's part, as he finds most villains "pathetic."
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: If something stands in your way, fight it until it can't fight anymore. [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann That's the way Team Mykan rolls.]]
* VirtueIsWeakness: Many of Mykan's villains and anti-heroes (namely the ones that share his ideals) have this mentality, refusing to show any kindness or empathy to anyone they meet even if it would benefit them. While the anti-heroes have one or two redeeming qualities, usually backstory-related or the one good thing they do onscreen, they're generally overshadowed by their unrepentantly jerkish nature. Villains don't even get that much outside of the occasional AlasPoorVillain, but outside of Beast Boy's various incarnations, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single one.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: If you're a lowly minion who is JustFollowingOrders, you deserve to suffer the same fate as your boss. This mostly applies to cosmic threats, as minions in lower-stakes stories are occasionally allowed to survive. In the case of ''Phantom of the City,'' the "vice mayor" is not only allowed to live, but usurps the mayor!
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: No one of the characters' home planets are evil, with some minor exceptions. Other races in the universe, on the other hand? Yeah, they can go die for one evil member.
* WholePlotReference: Mykan occasionally recycles plot lines from other media in his fics.
** ''The Sailor Moon Legend of Zelda'', for instance, is one to ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'' and ''Film/Armageddon1998''.
** ''12 Angry People'', a ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' version of ''Film/TwelveAngryMen''.
** ''Move and You're Dead,'' an early Teen Titans fanfic, is based on the Series/{{Thunderbirds}} episode of the same name.
* WhyDidYouMakeMeHitYou: Many of Mykan's protagonists tend to have this mindset because [[NeverMyFault they simply cannot take responsibilities for their own actions]] and [[BlamingTheVictim try to shift the blame on their victims]].
* AWizardDidIt: Usually explains his {{Plot Hole}}s this way.
* TheWorfEffect: Characters go through this solely to make Mykan's preferred characters look better by comparison. Sometimes, even his own characters go through it so they can't perform a certain action that would have solved an entire issue.
* {{Yandere}}: Just in case Mykan's protagonists' PsychopathicManchild tendencies didn't give it away, characters can turn outright destructive as a result of [[LoveMakesYouEvil their lady loves not choosing them]]. They've even tried to destroy the world, or even the entire universe over it.
