The various Blades in ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'', not including the main Blades used by playable Drivers.
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:In General]]
* AchillesHeel: While Blades can normally rapidly heal from any injury (albeit they can still be knocked unconscious), with a few exceptions (such as an Aegis) significant damage to the Core Crystal will kill them in short order. That said, its not a weakness that many can take advantage of, as it takes a great deal of power and precision to damage a Core Crystal. Only two characters in the game successfully use this tactic to kill Blades in battle (Mythra and Jin). A more easily exploited weakness involves the various methods to block a Blade's ability to absorb ether from the atmosphere, as without this ability most Blades are basically powerless.
* CantDropTheHero: The main Blades, for story reasons, can't be unequipped from their Drivers or sent off to do merc missions. A late-game event allows Dromarch, Brighid, and Pandoria to be unequipped via a roundabout method, but they still can't be sent on missions. NewGamePlus takes off the restrictions entirely and lets you unequip all of the main Blades, as well as send any of them on missions.
* CastOfSnowflakes: The rare Blades all have very distinct appearances, as well as unique Heart-to-Hearts and questlines.
* DamagerHealerTank: There are three types of Blades: Attacker, Healer, and Tank. Each type is determined by the Blade Weapons.
** Damager: Great Axes and Megalances focus on physical offense, while Ether Cannons focus on Ether offense.
** Healer: Bitballs focus on healing Arts, while Knuckle Claws focus on generating HP Potions. Twin Rings focus on both, at the cost of lower stats and a lack of Rare Blades.
** Tank: Shield Hammers focus on high health and block rates at the cost of low critical attack rate, while Chroma Katanas focus on evasion and decent critical attack rate.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Most Blades have at least two: [[spoiler:the Driver impaling themselves on their Blade's weapon to temporarily empower themselves]], and [[spoiler:consuming part of a human's body to become a Flesh Eater]].
* DeflectorShields: A standard ability of most all Blades, they can create a energy shield for themselves and/or their driver that will absorb a certain amount of damage before breaking. Some are better at making these shields than others, with the most talented Blades even able to protect large groups this way.
* EquippableAlly: Equipping a Blade grants the Driver the ability to perform certain Arts. Each playable Driver can equip up to three Blades at a time.
* ExoticWeaponSupremacy: Every Blade is associated with a weapon type. Naturally, all but one of the story-important Blades have unique weapons that you can't obtain otherwise. Still, several of these unique weapons are based on bog-standard fantasy fare such as Greatswords; while the generic weapons feature such interesting tools as [[MixAndMatchWeapon shield-hammers]] and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyX IP-friendly blitzballs]].
* GuardianEntity: Rather than servants or only being weapons, this is revealed to be the intended purpose of Blades toward both individuals and humanity/life in general. It's a bit more complex than just protection though, Blades are meant to develop and evolve alongside humanity as something of a symbolic mirror to them, and to use their accumulated emotional and mental growth through their interactions with humanity to over time benefit both humanity and Blades themselves as well as the world as a whole. While they can be misused and turned to evil through certain influences, overall Blades have an instinct to protect and to bond and it is in doing this that they find the most fulfillment. Blades that are denied this tend to become jaded, depressed, and even suicidal.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:Flesh Eater Blades are Blades that have incorporated human flesh into their bodies. This allows them to persist even if their Driver dies, and allows them to resonate with fellow Blades just like a Driver. In addition, their Core Crystals have a tinge of red incorporated to signify the change instead of being the usual blue. The inverse, a human that has had a Blade's Core Crystal incorporated into their body, also exists; Mikhail, Zeke, and Amalthus are all "Blade Eaters".]]
* HuMons: Most Blades are human in form, to such a degree that many can disguise themselves as humans by simply hiding their core crystal. Some have forms that are more animalistic, monstrous, or alien, but human and humanoid Blades are the majority. However, all Blades seem to be fully sapient, regardless of form.
* ImmortalLifeIsCheap: Due to all Blade's innate HealingFactor and immortality, novice drivers tend to use their Blades as living shields. Vandham warns Rex against this tactic - equal partnerships produce the strongest bonds and powers.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia:
** A Blade whose Driver dies reverts back to Core Crystal form, and after an idle period, can resonate with another Driver to reincarnate the Blade. However, the Blade loses all of their memories in the process except for knowledge of their own name, at least some aspects of their personality (often influenced by what they experienced in previous incarnations), and their basic abilities, which can be disturbing to people who knew the Blade's prior incarnation. This frequent amnesia bothers some Blades more than others, with many Blades keeping diaries in an effort to preserve their memories between incarnations. It all too often fails, due to how most Blades have limited means of ensuring the diary is preserved and returned to them for their next incarnation (depending on the circumstance, it can be many years before a dormant crystal is located and awakened again, and the new Driver may themselves have no knowledge of the Blade's previous life). Interestingly, it is shown that while their new incarnation doesn't have actual memories of previous ones, they do have the capacity to recognize places and perhaps even people important in their previous life as "familiar" to them. This is used as incentive for certain Blades to pursue their personal goals, such as Floren and Adenine, who each desire to fulfill long-term plans that would literally take centuries (and thus multiple drivers) to complete.
** How this is interpreted varies depending on the Blade. Some seem to regard each incarnation as a distinct person who dies and remains mostly distinct from the next incarnation, that each incarnation is a "new" Blade born into this world (as Dromarch puts it when awakening Roc is discussed, and how the Blades in a late game discussion find it preferable that they get to "die" when their Driver does and that that existence/relationship gets to in a sense at least remain with the particular Driver and no one else). Other Blades regard their past selves as completely still them, just with a different set of memories. Blades like this notably tend to be more preoccupied with the question of who they really are, and also often feel responsible for the things their past selves did. In the end the game never definitively answers which interpretation is true or more true, as the Architect never confims what becomes of a Blade's "self/soul" beyond the fact that the information in them is used to evolve Blades as a whole.
* LimitBreak: Each Blade has three increasingly powerful levels of Specials built up by performing Arts. The Driver tosses their weapon back to the Blade to perform them. Specials done in a certain order of elements and levels result in Blade Combos that have additional effects on battle and result in a much more powerful level 3/4 Special (which completes the combo and places a Element Orb on the enemy). At maximum Affinity, the gauge can build to a Level 4 Special (which can also be used to complete a Blade Combo) - these moves involve passing the weapon back and forth between the Blade and Driver as each attacks in turn, and the game pauses the normal flow of combat to focus on the spectacle. [[InvulnerableAttack Enemy attacks will whiff during level 4 techniques and during completed Blade Combos.]]
* LivingWeapon: Each Blade is both an individual and a weapon, with the weapon being more powerful in their Driver's hands than the Blade's own. If the weapon is broken or lost, the Blade can create a new copy of it from their own core.
* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: If you don't have the potential/aptitude to be a Driver, trying to awaken a Blade has some ''nasty'' backlash on your body due to it not being able to handle the core crystal's power (ranging from nosebleeds that last for days, to outright death from massive hemorrhaging all over the body). Beyond that, however, they're not picky: Drivers include humanoids, but also monsters (an early boss fight pits you against a Driver that happens to be an Elder Arachno) and, in special cases, even other Blades.
* OptionalPartyMember: As the page title suggests, all of the Blades on this page are optional characters. Many are randomly drawn from Core Crystals, and others are acquired from sidequests. Wulfric's Core Crystal is obtained through the main story, but it is not required to actually draw him. [[spoiler:The same can be said for Aegaeon.]]
* PersonalityPowers: Two elements are associated with one virtue per pair: Fire/Water for Bravery, Wind/Ice for Truth, Earth/Electric for Compassion, and Dark/Light for Justice. From a gameplay standpoint, these virtues influence the likelihood of a specific type of Blade being awakened. From a narrative standpoint, these virtues are reflected in the personalities of both Rare and story Blades to varying degrees of subtlety.
* PowerCrystal: Each Blade has a Core Crystal inside their body (almost always their chest). If the Core Crystal is destroyed (or in most cases just badly damaged), the Blade dies for good. [[spoiler:Said crystals are actually technologically advanced computation and memory devices, with the Aegis being originally the manager of all the Core Crystals. They were originally developed as a replacement for human brains in a quest for immortality.]]
* {{Reincarnation}}: After a Blade's Driver dies, the Blade is returned to their Core Crystal. Once a new Driver bonds with them, they're reborn without any memories of their past life, albeit they do inherit the emotional growth, life experience, etc. they gained from their past lives.
* RequiredPartyMember: The main Blades for each party member (Dromarch for Nia, for example) cannot be removed from their Driver's palette of active Blades (doesn't apply in certain late game circumstances and New Game+).
* SapientSteed: Quadrupedal Blades can be ridden for faster travelling.
* StanceSystem: They act as the proverbial stances in the game's StanceSystem, with most Blades contributing three Arts apiece.
* SuperpowerRussianRoulette: [[spoiler:Blades who become Flesh Eaters may end up with the worst of both worlds, losing both their immortality and the ability to properly respire ether, crippling their Blade powers. More successful Flesh Eaters gain the ability to resonate like a Driver, while even luckier ones can gain a StoryBreakerPower to rival the might of an Aegis. Most (but not all) suffer debilitating side effects. The very luckiest ones gain immense power with no side-effects at all (other than becoming mortal), becoming the best possible mix of Driver and Blade. The two best Flesh Eaters are considered Nia and Jin due to Nia's power of healing and cell manipulation that can cancel out Malos's powers even at his full strength and Jin's elemental manipulation making him faster than everyone except Pneuma.]]
* ThemeNaming: In the original Japanese dub, where the human characters [[AerithAndBob run the gamut of fantasy names]], Blades instead have very Japanese names. The vast majority of Rare Blades, both major characters and optional [[DubNameChange got renamed for western releases]], but the randomly generated Common Blades still sport their original names (though some get rather creative spellings, like "Rykiri" where most people would write "Raikiri").
* TronLines: Common Blades and some of the unique Blades have these. The rare Blades can have them on their clothes, skin, or in the case of Perun, hair (though she has them on her skin as well). A particular scene with Pyra where Malos invades her mind indicates all Blades have TronLines on their bodies, just that in some they are usually not visible. "Ether lines" is the official term for the Titan equivalent and the term may apply to Blades too.
* UniquenessDecay: In the original release of the game, Light was the rarest element, with only three Blades being able to use it and one of those being the rarest Blade in the game. Half of the Blades introduced as DLC have Light as their element, which makes it no less common than any other element.
* ViciousCycle: Late in the game [[spoiler:it is revealed that Blades are not truly immortal. Eventually their Cores return to the Titans that birthed them and become new Titans themselves, from which new Core Crystals and Blades are born, and the titans they became eventually die of old age. Each new phase involves a total loss of memory, but the life experience gained causes the Blades and Titans to evolve over time]].

[[folder:Common Blades]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6pkw79r.png]]

-->Voiced by: Various

The most common type of Blade. While they lack the versatility and growth potential of Rare Blades, they help fill out gaps in your party and complete mercenary missions. Their strength is estimated in "crowns"; 1-4 crowns denote increasingly strong common Blades, and 5 marks a Rare.
----
* BoringButPractical: Especially in the early game, before you get any good special Blades. Once you have a full set, they remain useful for Merc Missions and for the key items earned by filling out their affinity charts, which can be cashed in for large amounts of WP.
* CantCatchUp: Common Blades don't have nearly as many segments on their affinity chart, so it's unlikely you'll be using that 1-crown Blade all the way through the endgame. 3- and 4-crowns, on the other hand, can be better than some of the weaker Rare Blades; commons get higher stat boosts than rares, and can potentially have the extremely powerful Orb Master skill, which no Rare Blade possesses.
* ComMons: You will probably get a lot of these while trying to get a rare Blade.
* CrutchCharacter: Tend to be this until one can draw enough Rare Blades, or in Mercenary Missions. ''Especially'' the one Gramps hands over, which cannot be released or transferred. That said, keeping some with 24% stat boosts, Orb Master or Ultimate combo is a good idea. Or if you get lucky enough to get one with more damage modifiers than Zenobia.
* ElementalPowers: Can come in any element save for Light.
* EmergencyWeapon: The Blade awakened from Gramps' Core Crystal cannot be ditched or transferred from Rex.
* FacelessMooks: Used by most NPC Drivers.
* InfinityMinusOneSword: 4-crown Common Blades can be very useful warriors. If they have Orb Master, in particular, they can help other Blades execute multi-round chain attacks without needing Blade Combos. They're also of considerable value outside of battle, as they leave behind a super rare Overdrive Protocol if released with a filled-out affinity chart.
* ItemCaddy: A Common Blade with any of the skills that increase the amount of [[ExperienceBooster EXP, WP]] and [[MoneyMultiplier gold]] that enemies drop, or [[RandomDropBooster the item drop rate]]. These skills take effect as long as the Blade is engaged to a Driver in the party, whether or not they actively participate in combat, so they can prove useful to keep around even if their fighting ability isn't up to snuff.
* PlayerMooks: Their main purpose in the mid-game is to send them on mercenary missions.
* YouAllLookFamiliar: Common Blades come in 4 body types, [[ArtificialHuman Male]], [[RobotGirl Female]], [[TopHeavyGuy Brute]], and [[PantheraAwesome Animal]], with slight variations based on their element, weapon, and helmet design. Given the number of Core Crystals you'll be awakening, you'll see all the different variants quite quickly.

-->'''Role''': Healer
-->'''Element''': [[BlowYouAway Wind]]
-->'''Weapon''': Knuckle Gloves

----
* AnArmAndALeg: Has parts of her body just... missing. This doesn't seem to hinder her at all.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: It can be easy to mistake her for a boy due to her short hair.
* BadassBookworm: Enjoys books, especially ancient literature and historical texts. Her weapons are spiked tomes that materialize around her wrists like gauntlets, and a giant volume hangs from her back on a chain. Her strength stat is also higher than average compared to some of the other rare Blades.
* CashGate: Her Affinity Nodes are opened by acquiring and translating ancient books. One of them must be bought from the Argentum bookstore for a base price of 70,000 G. Another can be found on auction elsewhere in Argentum, where the bidding options range from pennies to a small fortune... except the Nopon are such penny-pinchers that [[SubvertedTrope even the lowest available bid, a mere 30 G, is sufficient to make the purchase]].
* DiscOneNuke: Adenine is in contention with blades like awakened Dagas, KOS-MOS, and the Aegis for being the most powerful non-Poppi blade in the base game and is part of one of the pity groups that can be assigned to each new save file, meaning players that land a group with her in it will be guaranteed to get her fairly quickly. Her elemental weakness modifier can absolutely snap the game's damage system in half. Without DLC, no blade matches her potential damage boost. And even then, [[spoiler: Patroka]] is locked to NewGamePlus and Adenine is ''STILL'' sometimes a better choice.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: While all other unequipped Blades can be found at random milling about Garfont, after her quest and true to her word, Adenine will [[spoiler:always be found in the Data Processing Room in the lower portion of the World Tree when not travelling with the party.]]
* HappyDance: When she gets really excited, she dances by hopping on one foot and spinning in place while shaking her hand above her head.
* IChooseToStay: [[spoiler:Subverted. At the end of her personal side quest, she decides to make the World Tree's data archive her home for the rest of her life due to its wealth of knowledge (she notes it will take one-thousand years to study all of it, but her Driver won't live as long). However, she can still travel with the party and be sent on Merc Missions. She'll just be spending her free time in the archive instead of Garfont.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her Japanese name can be roughly translated as 'formula', befitting her analytical nature. Meanwhile, her English name is a similarly scientific reference, being one of the four nucleotide bases of DNA.
* PaperMaster: Her robe is made of sheets of paper, and her attacks are accompanied by pages flying everywhere.
* PowerFist: Manifests a pair of combat knuckles (in the form of books that project energy spikes).
* SupportPartyMember: With lackluster healing capabilities and below average offense, Adenine's main draw is her ability to increase enemy loots and boosts attacks that target enemies' weaknesses. Before [[spoiler: Patroka]] was added as DLC, Adenine's damage boost effecting an otherwise untouched part of the damage formula made her one of the most overpowered blades in the entire game, [[DiskOneNuke and one with an absurdly high pull rate early on, especially if your save file selects the hidden value for Pity Blade Group 2 at that]].
* TooManyBelts: Has several belts integrated into her outfit.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:Adenine decides to make the World Tree data archive her home in her downtime at end of her side quest. However, the First Low Orbit Station (and according to Pneuma's expectations, the rest of the World Tree below it) is destroyed at the end of the game. She undoubtedly would have survived if she participated in the final boss fight, but if she wasn't in the party, it can't be said for sure if she still stayed behind and most-likely died in the destruction (given her endless thirst for knowledge) or if she evacuated as soon as everything started to fall apart. The post-ending title screen shows the lower and middle portions of the World Tree still intact (if lopsided due to the upper portions being destroyed), but whether that's canon to the story or not is dubious (admittedly every title screen before it shows canon locations/characters that will feature in the current chapter)]]. One of the minor [=NPCs=] in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3'' is an Agnian boy named Seeker who is nearly identical to Adenine in every aspect (including the same name in Japanese) aside from his gender, with the implication being that [[spoiler:Adenine survived and had a son who follows [[GenerationXerox the rules of how Blade offspring are stated to work]]]].
* WorthyOpponent: In her Heart-to-Heart, she matches wits with a scholarly Nopon who laid eyes on the same book she wanted. No one wins, but the Nopon bows out gracefully and allows her to purchase the text.
* WhammyBid: During an auction in Argentum, you have the option to bid a large quantity of gold for a Tome of Morytha; the other bidders are putting up laughably small amounts. The auction may drag out longer than necessary unless you stump them all with a sack of cash, one of which is also a laughably small amount (30 G).

-->'''Role''': Attacker
-->'''Element''': [[DishingOutDirt Earth]]
-->'''Weapon''': Greataxe

----
* BigNo: Agate mistakes a Nopon for a giant bug. She screams when it starts moving toward her.
* CombatStilettos: Played with. She doesn't appear to actually have regular feet, with her legs instead ending in pointed crystaline structures that bring to mind ballet boots and make it look at if she is constatly walking on the tips of her toes.
* CrystalWeapon: Her unique Greataxe has blades made of the same pink stone that adorns her body.
* CuteWitch: Her outfit is designed to resemble a witch's dress, hat 'n all.
* GemstoneAssault: Agate's Specials kick up brilliant pink jewels from the ground to pierce foes.
* GoalInLife: Unlike many Blades, Agate is reborn with a specific desire. Because she will one day return to her Core Crystal, she wants to unearth a brand new mineral that's never been seen before. [[spoiler:Her personal sidequest ends with the discovery of her own gemstone: the real-life mineral, agate.]]
* LadyOfAdventure: Her intro cutscene and field lines make it clear that Agate has an absolute blast just exploring the world and seeing what there is to find.
* MeaningfulName: Her English name is self-explanatory and her original name is simply the Japanese word for the same. Interestingly, it's an InvertedTrope in-universe, where Agate is a rock-hunter as a hobby and her personal quest is to find a new mineral to name after herself.
* RockThemeNaming: Beyond her own name, Agate's Blade Specials and Battle Skills are all named after gemstones as well.
* {{Understatement}}: Tora chimes in when Agate casually mentions that she has a "bit of a problem" with bugs.
-->'''Tora:''' "Bit of problem" understatement of the year.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: ''Freaks'' when fighting bugs and insectoid enemies.
-->'''Agate: WAAAH! GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME!''' I'm not joking, ''get it away!''

-->'''Role''': Attacker
-->'''Element''': [[CastingAShadow Darkness]]
-->'''Weapon''': Ether Cannon

----

* AmbiguouslyBi: She has deeply flirtatious intentions for her Driver, regardless of their gender.
* CheshireCatGrin: She frequently displays [[https://i.redd.it/b96992f5l4201.jpg an unsettling smile]].
* CounterAttack: Her third Battle Skill, Vendetta, reflects damage back to the enemy, dealing 300% ether damage at maximum level.
* CreepyDoll: She looks like a porcelain doll with visible ball joints and moves like a marionette, and she's got a really creepy personality to go along with her appearance.
* CreepyGood: She means well, but her cyborg doll-like appearance, TrueSight, questionable ethics, and obsessive attachment to her Driver make her a little unnerving even to her own allies.
* CreepyLongFingers: Averted. Her artwork makes her look like she has a giant, skeletal hand holding her Ether Cannon, but it's just a part of the cannon itself.
* CriticalStatusBuff:
** All of her Specials increases damage whenever her Driver's HP is below 30%.
** Her first Battle Skill, All for Love, increases the damage of her Specials based on missing HP of her Driver.
** Inverted with her second Battle Skill, Pain of Longing, which increases her Affinity whenever your friendly Drivers takes damage.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She is a Dark Blade with puppet-like limbs and a ruthless approach to solving problems; but she is ultimately loyal to the party. At least, as long as her beloved Driver is there.
* DubNameChange: [[AvertedTrope Averted.]] She's actually the only rare blade (excluding Shulk and Elma[[labelnote:Note]]KOS-MOS and T-elos don't count because the "RE:" that was removed from Japanese to English.[[/labelnote]]) that has her name unchanged from Japanese to English, making her an OddNameOut.
* GlassCannon: Par for the course with Ether Cannon users. Her strength is amplified when her Driver is badly hurt, which means her best work is usually done seconds from KO.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: In her personal side quest, she was able to shoot down an airship with one well-placed shot from her [[{{BFG}} Ether Cannon]] thanks to her TrueSight.
* JackBauerInterrogationTechnique: During her personal quest, she squeezes information out of a bioterrorist by threatening to force-feed him his own poison (which is strong enough to kill Titans).
* MagicalEye: Her left eye flares purple when she activates her TrueSight. With it, she can spy on anyone, anywhere - even on other continents. [[ParanoiaFuel Don't run.]]
* MarionetteMotion: She looks and dances like a ballerina puppet. In her summoning cutscene, her limbs are visibly held up by strings.
* MythologyGag: The [[CreepyLongFingers giant skeletal hand]] on her default Ether Cannon design [[https://i.imgur.com/9hzncIZ.png resembles]] a [[WasOnceAMan Wels]] in ''VideoGame/{{Xenogears}}''.
* NotAMorningPerson: Her time change quotes show that she prefers to operate at night.
* ProperlyParanoid: Her personal quest starts after she sinks a Titan cargo ship during a Mercenary mission because the crew looked suspicious to her. [[spoiler: Turns out the ship was carrying a shipment of neurotoxin powerful enough to kill Titans, with the intended target being Mor Ardain.]] Suffice to say by the quest's end you'll probably agree that [[PayEvilUntoEvil shooting it down was ultimately justified.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: Gives off this vibe with her Driver, whomever they may be.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Not really evil per say, but out of all the optional Blades the party can awaken, Azami is one of the most ruthless, even by [[DarkIsNotEvil Dark Blade]] standards.
* {{Yandere}}: Azami does not appreciate those who prevent her from monopolizing her Driver. Some of her personal Merc Missions involve targeting these individuals (whether lethally or not is unclear, but all she clarifies is that they've been punished at the end). She doesn't react well to being sent on Merc Missions either, as she interprets it as her Driver looking for an excuse to get rid of her. If you release her, her departure line can come off as a veiled threat.
-->'''Azami:''' Don't think this is over. It will ''never'' be over.

-->'''Role''': Healer
-->'''Element''': [[BlowYouAway Wind]]
-->'''Weapon''': Bitball

----

* {{Acrofatic}}: He is absurdly fast; he's somehow able to travel from one Titan to another in less than a second, and can steal just about anything from an Indoline statue to Emperor Niall's underwear without being noticed.
* BellyMouth: His entire body is one giant mouth, letting him gobble down vast quantities of food. It's also where he hides his Bitball and [[BreathWeapon various other weapons]].
* BigEater: His huge size isn't just for show; he can eat food without ever getting full, and all of his Affinity Chart requirements pertain to food in some way.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Boreas is ''weird''. Despite the aforementioned BellyMouth (with no digestive system to be seen) he still has a head... that he can take off and juggle around like it's a hat. His limbs are penguin-like flaps that morph into large hands when he needs to hold something, and according to a post-battle conversation between him and Adenine, those limbs are actually tongues. While most rare Blades just look weird, Boreas' body is a total mystery.
* CashGate: One of multiple Blades that require some degree of monetary investment to power up. That said, unlike Sheba and her piggybank, and Adenine and her ancient tomes, filling up his food stash should be comparatively affordable.
* DiscOneNuke: Provided that you unlock him early (which is likely since he's in one of the pity blade pools, and has a high drop rate in three of the other 4 pools), he's one of the game's most durable healers. His skills are fairly easy to upgrade, too - just buy him a lot of food.
* ExtremeOmnivore: By his logic, if it tastes good, it's on the menu. He jokes about [[ImAHumanitarian potentially eating Nopon if they are tasty enough]] in a conversation with Tora, but draws the line at actually doing so.
* MeaningfulName: Depending on language, either the Greek god of the north wind, or the fastest runner in the Buddhist pantheon.
* OneTrackMindedHunger: He thinks about little other than food. Almost every node of his affinity chart requires either feeding him or donating food to his personal stash. When said stash is stolen, he stops at absolutely nothing to get it back.
* RealMenWearPink: One of his favored item types is Cosmetics.
-->'''Boreas:''' How do I look? Pretty?
* StoneWall: What makes him so desired as a healer. Boreas has absurdly high defense ratios, which is rare for healers and even more so for Bitball users. Even if the designated tank goes down, Boreas' Driver might actually last long enough to get everyone on their feet again.
* SuperSpeed: At his top speed, he's so fast he can travel to other ''countries'' and back in the blink of an eye. [[GameplayAndStorySegregation It doesn't show in combat]] because he's usually not motivated enough to go that fast, but his speed is reflected in his "Fleet of Foot" field skill.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He's so confident in his skills that he takes on six requests at a time. His affinity quest starts with him taking on another big quest while the party comments on his overconfidence. Corvin turns it around at the end of his quest by explaining he's so confident because of ThePowerOfFriendship.
* AnimalMotifs: Birds, specifically dark-feathered corvids like crows and ravens as seen with his feathered cape.
* BadassCape: Wears a cool black feathered cape that he can freely use as part of his specials and even turns golden when using his full power.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Corvin doesn't hesitate to take on favors for people to make their lives easier, even if the requests start piling up. As he puts it: "You don't wait to be asked when people's lives are at stake." Completing his Affinity Chart requires fulfilling said requests.
* CleverCrows: He exemplifies the benevolent aspects of corvids, given his theming.
* ConvenientWeaknessPlacement: Corvin is the best Blade to use against Elma thanks to his Light Element and quick-recharging Evasion Art. He was also released in the same update as Elma.
* CooldownManipulation: Ictus, one of his Blade Skills, recharges his Driver's Arts when they evade an enemy attack.
* CriticalHitClass: Corvin's Uchigatana ties for the highest critical hit rate of all weapons, and his Alae Custodiae skill capitalizes on this by filling the Party Gauge with every crit he lands.
* DiscOneNuke: If you've purchased the DLC, Corvin stands alongside Crossette as the first non-story Blade you can pick up. He's also considered one of the most powerful Blades in the game.
* DualWielding: He carries two katanas and will use them together in his specials. He only lends his Driver one, though, claiming the second is too powerful for anyone else to wield.
* FeatherMotif: Corvin's black-feathered cape is his defining accessory, driving home his corvid theme.
* {{Foil}}: [[spoiler:Can be seen as one to Mikhail, whose specials are also crow-themed and uses darkness as a Blade. And while Corvin cares about doing the right thing and providing aid to others all the time, Mikhail's morailty is rather gray considering he helped Jin and the Torna organization to destroy the world before having a change of heart in the final chapter, [[HeroicSacrifice sacrificing himself]] to protect Rex and company from Amalthus.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Unlike Mythra, he plays this trope straight, being a blonde fixated on helping others and believing in ThePowerOfFriendship.
* GoldenSuperMode: Upon using his Level 3 and Level 4 Specials, his black feathered cape will turn golden.
* GratuitousLatin: Aside from his name being derived from the Latin word "corvus", his specials and battle skills all have Latin names.
* {{Irony}}: In spite of crows' common association with [[CreepyCrows darkness and omens]], Corvin uses light and is morally upstanding.
* LightEmUp: His element is Light.
* MeaningfulName: His English name comes from "corvus", Latin for crow.
* MovesetClone: His Uchigatana uses the same Art animation as a Chroma Katana.
* NamedWeapons: His two katanas. The one he lends to his driver (the one with the black straps) is called Halteclere while the other (the one with the white straps) is called Durandal. Both swords get their names from the corresponding swords in ''Literature/TheSongOfRoland''.
* PerpetualMolt: His scarf, ''constantly'', even when he's standing still.
* StatusBuffDispel: A lot of enemies become enraged when their health is low, granting them various benefits including spike damage auras. Corvin's level 2 special Lacerna Noctis has the unique ability to purge an enemy's rage status.

* BadassAdorable: Crossette is an avid {{Fangirl}} of Pyra, and her straightforward attempts to help others over the course of her sidequest are very endearing. She is also a ''very'' powerful Blade who despite being classified as a Healer boasts skills that give her a damage output rivaling if not exceeding that of most Attackers.
* BerserkButton: Seeing children in trouble really sets Crossette off.
* BigEater: Her liked pouch items are all food, particularly staple foods and desserts.
* CombatMedic: Despite being classified as a Healer Blade, Crossette's Affinity Chart includes three of the most powerful damage amplifiers in the entire game when most offensive Blades are lucky to have two good traits: a stacking boost to all damage for collecting HP Potions capping at '''500%''', a massive increase in damage to launched enemies for the entire party, and the best fusion combo amplifier in the game. Her first two Specials spawn HP Potions and heal the party for part of the damage dealt, respectively.
* DiscOneNuke: If you have the DLC, you can acquire Crossette's Core Crystal by speaking to the indicated NPC as soon as you gain the ability to summon Blades. Her potent damage-boosting skills make her ''the'' best Blade for most of the game and she stays strong thereafter, to the point that the world record speedrun of the game is basically one long line of Crossette one-shotting every enemy.
* DownloadableContent: Her Core Crystal can be received from an NPC in Argentum after purchasing the Expansion Pass.
* FatalFireworks: She's themed around fireworks; her Blade Specials have her unleash increasingly elaborate displays upon the enemy.
* FriendToAllChildren: Unlocking her Ardent Cooking nodes involves aiding children that are hungry or in need of help on each Titan. Her personal quest has her saving a trio of Fonsett Island children that she helped before from becoming Igna lunch.
* GenkiGirl: Crossette is bright, optimistic and passionate in all she does. Her Core Crystal is even called the "Ebullient Core Crystal"[[note]]"ebullient" meaning "cheerful and enthusiastic"[[/note]].
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: The first dish Crossette can create upon unlocking her cooking skill is Molten Salsa. Upon reaching the next stage of her sidequest, she asks if she can cook on her own for the first time. Predictably, the dish is too hot for the recipient, a child, to handle.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: In stark contrast to her relationship with Pyra, Crossette cannot stand Mythra at all, finding her harsh disposition intolerable and the polar opposite of her idol.
* HotBlooded: Crossette is always fired up, both literally and figuratively.
-->''"I'm sorry for always acting on impulse. It's just that when my emotions start to burn, there's nothing I can do!"''
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Crossette idolizes Pyra for her kindness, strength, and cooking skills and seeks to emulate her in every way. She even has a unique line for when both she and Pyra are present in battle.
-->'''Crossette:''' Oh my gosh, I get to fight alongside my hero?!
* LeeroyJenkins: She causes some problems for the party during her personal quest but rushing heedlessly in, but she redeems herself later on by... Heedlessly rushing in with more success the second time around.
* LethalChef: At first, her cooking philosophy is summed up by the quote "Pretty much anything becomes edible if you apply enough fire!" Her dishes unsurprisingly prove way too hot to handle, especially for the children she tries to cook for. She gets better over time, eventually coming close to [[SupremeChef Pyra's]] level.
* MeaningfulName: Her English and Japanese names both allude to fireworks. ''Hibana'' (火花) means "spark", and if you reverse the kanji, you get ''hanabi'' (花火), Japanese for "firework". A crossette is a [[https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Crossette_firework_effect_at_Disney_World.JPG type of firework]].
* NiceGirl: She's unfailingly sweet and compassionate. The only person Crossette ever has a bad word to say about is Mythra, and that's because she finds her too mean (and even in this case, she softens her stance on Mythra by the end of her Blade Quest, recognizing Mythra is kind behind her words).
* RollerbladeGood: Her running animation is skating via the spark jets on her shoes, similarly to [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog Shadow the Hedgehog]].
* SweetTooth: She directly admits to having "a real sweet tooth" when given dessert pouch items.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Crossette loves Pyra's cooking, most especially Sunshine Pie. Leveling her Fortitude skill requires feeding her the food items Pyra makes.

* BlueBlood: Dressed like a Napoleonic monarch, with a haughty attitude to boot.
* BrilliantButLazy: He wields extraordinary power, but prefers not to go all out since he sees it as beneath him to lend his full strength to those of lower status than him.
* CoolChair: Has a regal red throne, as seen in his summoning. He also materializes it for some idle animations.
* CoolCrown: Wears a crown at an angle.
* ErmineCapeEffect: Wears an elaborate cape and is never seen without it.
* FlamingSword: Flaming ''greataxe'', but same idea. Similar to Pyra's Aegis Sword, it emits blue fire when activated.
* TheFriendNoOneLikes: Most of the other rare blades can barely tolerate him and his haughty attitude.
* GratuitousIambicPentameter: Most of his dialogue is in Shakespearean meter, although he has an American accent like most Blades.
* HypocriticalHumor: In one post-battle dialogue, he of all people is the one to tell Sheba that her attitude is poor and unacceptable.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Although he treats the party as his retainers, he cares for them in his own way.
** Even before the end of his quest, he has moments where his kinder side shines through. He is very polite and courteous when questioning Torigoth's chief about his past, and the main reason why he decides to battle the arrogant behemoth is to avenge the people he presumes was his.
** After the party helps him with his sidequest, he starts utilizing more of his power to aid the party, [[spoiler:which is reflected with his gaining a more useful affinity chart, better stats, and more aux core slots]].
* InfinityPlusOneSword: After [[spoiler: unlocking his second affinity chart]], Kaiser Zone becomes the most powerful blade skill in the game to the point where even without any of his other attributes he still outclasses other rare blades. The best part is he's mostly useful in the hands of the AI party members, since he's really only necessary because of the passive bonus.
* MagikarpPower: [[spoiler:His trust level resets to unleash his full power, but restore it, and watch as he becomes one of the best blades in the game.]]
* MysteriousPast: It's left unclear whether Regideria was his kingdom, if he even had a kingdom in the first place.
* PrestigeClass: [[spoiler:After completing his quest, his trust level resets, but in exchange, he gets a number of field skills, the potency of his specials and battle skills increases, his stats increase, and he gets 3 aux cores slots instead of 1]].
* PrinceCharmless: His ego tends to rub the party the wrong way. With enough investment, though, he genuinely offers his support in battle and in mercenary missions.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He's just as capable in battle as any other Blade. [[spoiler:Completing his quest increases his battle prowess all around]].
* SupportPartyMember: His combat abilities on his own are lackluster. However, he gives his teammates a massive boost in offense.
* TechnicolorFire: His default axe spouts blue flames to form its blade when activated.

* TheAgeless: Like any Blade her physical appearance will stay the same over many incarnations. She appreciates the fleeting nature of human beauty by contrast.
* BlackComedy: Mixes this with her hobby of freezing items to make art for her icecraft by noting in a post battle conversation that Floren is so pretty it makes her want to turn him into an ornament, then laughs a bit at the thought. Floren assumes it is a joke but gets nervous all the same.
* CombatStilettos: The rear talons on her feet are greatly elongated, giving her this effect.
* CuteMonsterGirl: Perhaps the straightest example in the game, given her LittleBitBeastly aspects go to a further extreme than usual while at the same time keeping her humanoid in the face and overall body.
* HiddenDepths: Creating ice sculptures by using her freezing powers to preserve flowers and such as delicate reliefs. Her heart-to-heart also reveals a profound view on the nature of beauty, aging and TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside.
* HighHeeledFeet: Her rear talons make it seem like she is wearing high-heels.
* LittleBitBeastly: Her hands and feet are massive paws, she has a small fluffy tail plus rather sharp teeth and her hair turns into giant rabbit ears. That said, she wouldn't describe herself as a rabbit girl.
* MagikarpPower: Dahlia is going to lag behind the rest of your Rare Blades if you awakened her in the early game, as the third-tier of her affinity chart cannot be unlocked until you reach Tantal, which is more than half-way through the story. After that, then you can raise her up through trust like any other Blade.
* MeaningfulName: Her Japanese name, Tsuki is a reference to the Japanese legend of [[MoonRabbit the rabbit in the moon]]. Meanwhile, her English name refers to her affinity for flowers and combined with her SouthernBelle accent and busty figure may refer to Dolly Parton.
* MsFanservice: Is the bustiest character in the game by a good margin, has an ImpossibleHourglassFigure, wears a [[VaporWear translucent minidress]] complete with ample cleavage that bounces when she moves.
* SupermodelStrut: The first shot of her when she is summoned focuses on the sway of her hips as she walks.

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Really wants to help everyone she meets... If only she could do it without zapping the daylights out of them.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Electra ''excels'' at defense, arguably the very best in the entire cast... But the only tank in the party actually capable of ''using'' her is built around evading attacks, not powering through them.
* CuteLittleFangs: Has one pointy canine that is noticeable in both her character art and model.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Zenobia. They are both based on Shinto Gods (she is the Raijin to Zenobia's Fujin), have CuteLittleFangs and have power so absurd, they try to restrict themselves. While Zenobia has full control and restricts herself to savor her battles, Electra tries to do so because she thinks she's too dangerous to be around people and [[PowerIncontinence can't control her power at first]].
** To Wulfric. Both are Blades that fall under Compassion, both are blades that just want to be helpful and friendly, and both have trouble helping others due to circumstances initially beyond their control. While Electa's PowerIncontinence is the source or her trouble, Wulfric's issue is that he has the FaceOfAThug. Electra is one of the best defensive Blades, where Wulfric is one of the best Offensive Blades, and even their elements are opposite.
* GlacierWaif: She is a Tank-type Blade, despite looking like a little girl.
* NamedAfterSomeoneFamous: Design-wise, she's based off Raijin, the Shinto God of Storms.
* PermanentlyMissableContent: Although she can't be lost herself, maxing out her affinity and then using a NewGamePlus option has the horrible consequence of utterly skipping her whole Blade Quest from between the party catching up to her and before Electra tries to find the kid she zapped (as her quest's sequence is all about unlocking her unique mastery skills, which will remain unlocked doing the above).
* PowerIncontinence: She angsts a lot over it. Her power is impressive but she has little control over it. She usually ends up shocking people (such as Nia) just by physical contact and has trouble using electricity at levels that aren't "fry everything". Her personal sidequest involves intensive training to fine-tune that dreaded power of hers.
* PowerLimiter: As a DLC quest demonstrates [[spoiler:her mastery of thunder ability is this for Herald's rampage ability, this allows Herald to use that power more effectively.]]
* ProneToTears: Has a habit of crying, usually when her electrical powers go awry.
* TheGlomp: Does this to Nia during her sidequest, [[AmusingInjuries with hilarious results]].

* BackgroundMusicOverride: "Uncontrollable" plays when you fight unique monsters when she's in the party. Similar to ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'', if [[SuperMode Overdrive]] is activated "Wir Fliegen" kicks in.
* BadassBoast: A party of about ten people pop out of a portal, and how does she react? By complaining that this is going to be too easy.
* CastingAShadow: She uses the darkness element.
* CombatPragmatist: Just like her [[VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX home game]], Elma specializes in swift attacks behind opponents. Her passive skills and Arts grant extra power in [[BackStab attacking from behind]]. The only problem is that when used properly she does so much damage that she will always draw aggro and make this bonus worthless.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She utilizes the element of darkness but she's a staunch protector of humanity.
* DeadpanSnarker: This gem when paired with Zeke:
-->'''Zeke:''' My advance cannot be stopped. Such is the destiny of those who carry the Eye of Shining Justice.\
'''Elma:''' I think someone needs to take away your library card.
* DeathGlare: Her gaze is intimidating enough to get even ''[[PersonOfMassDestruction Mythra]]'' to take her seriously.
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: You have to battle her before she joins you, and then battle her ''again'' to get the key item needed to take her into Alrest. The first time is a fairly straightforward battle, [[SNKBoss the second time not so much]].
* DownloadableContent: She can only be unlocked by playing through Challenge Mode.
* DoppelgangerAttack: One of her moves against the party, Ghost Factory, summons a trio of Ghost Elmas. Like a number of other boss reinforcements introduced in the DLC for Xenoblade 2, each Ghost Elma locks a segment of the Party Gauge to force the party to defeat them before they can revive fallen party members or use Chain Attacks. In the second fight against her, she'll never stop casting Ghost Factory until you use Seal Reinforcements.
* DualWielding: She uses dual submachine guns and dual katanas.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Like Shulk and Fiora, Elma is implied to have already experienced the complete events of her own game. [[spoiler: The experience she picked up along the way allowed her to figure out the truth of what the World Tree really is before even seeing it for herself]].
* GuestFighter: Elma comes from ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX''.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: As the protagonist of the previous installment, ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX''.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: She wields [[DualWielding two katanas]] in combat.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Being a FishOutOfWater, her analytical personality brings some interesting musings about the exploration of Alrest, ''almost'' as if she is aware of certain game mechanics.
-->''(Nighttime approaches)'' Beware the Tyrants that come out at night... ahh, you call them "Unique Monsters", don't you?\
''(Unlocking a skill node)'' So that's how you decrypt the data. It all makes sense now.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: For her Challenge Mode mission, it is revealed that the Nopon Archsage tricked Elma into thinking Rex and company were Prone (hostile aliens) in a virtual battle simulation, blindsiding and forcing them to defend themselves.
* TheLostLenore: The Lone Hero of the White Whale, Elma's partner, seems to be this to Elma as she mentions him a lot more frequently than she did in ''X''. She sees Mythra as a fellow hero's partner and admonishes her, giving her a [[DeathGlare scary look]] for not treasuring the memories she has of Addam Origo.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Just like in her home game, she has access to Overdrive, allowing the party an extra option with which to use the Party Gauge if she's with them in battle. Additionally, because she's not truly a Blade, she isn't weakened by the limited ether in Spirit Crucible Elpys.
* MoreDakka: Her Specials are fast, multi-hit attacks with projectiles. Her Lv.3 Special is an AOE attack that takes up ''sixteen'' hits, perfect for building Party Gauge and Overdrive counter. In Elma: Redux, there are at least ''four'' Elmas blasting at you with an unending barrage.
* MovesetClone: Her Dual Swords use the same Art animation as Twin Rings.
* MyRulesAreNotYourRules: The party is restricted to level 60 in the battle against Elma as part of the [[MythologyGag love letter]] to ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX''. Elma herself matches that level in the first battle against her, but for the rematch she defies the restriction at level 65.
* MythologyGag:
** Her first appearance has her coming out of a portal and looking over a cliff gazing at the landscape in Uraya similar to how she introduced planet Mira to the Avatar in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX''.
** The battle against her features a level restriction of 60. The level cap of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'' was 60 (until the post-game). Her being level 6'''5''' can also be seen as a nod to the fact that many of the late- and post-game enemies were ''not'' subject to that cap.
** The battle against her involves her using [[DoppelgangerAttack duplicates of herself]] similar to the fight against Gi Zang.
** In the English dub, she pronounces "Nopon" as "No-pon" instead of with short "o"s all throughout, just as it was pronounced in her home game's English dub. This difference in pronunciation is lampshaded by Brighid.
** Elma notices how Tora has the [[OneSteveLimit same name]] and speech pattern as [[VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX Tatsu's rival]] and mistakes him for the same Nopon.
* {{Nerf}}: Elma's Overdrive is significantly toned down from the original mechanic in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX''; for one thing, the counter requires 999 hits to max out rather than 100. It's still incredibly powerful if used correctly, but you have to work harder for it.
* OneManArmy: We get to see that the tidbit in her character bio in ''Xenoblade Chronicles X'' that said that "few operatives can match her in combat" wasn't just for show. Fighting and defeating a party consisting of ten enemies is just a breeze to Elma.
* RequiredPartyMember: The quest for the battle against her requires Shulk and Fiora in the active party and maxing out her affinity chart requires KOS-MOS.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobot: [[spoiler:Elma appears in Alrest as her mimeosome: a robot designed to look and function like a human that is remotely controlled by the real Elma, who is a [[SpaceElves Space Elf]]. Though it's been stated that she's appearing in spirit form like with Shulk and Fiora while her body stays on Mira, so basically a projection of a projection]].
* RunningGag: Her dislike of Tatsu's uselessness continues in this game (in ''X'' she will always approve of actions that harass or make fun of him), comparing him unfavorably to Tora both in her initial meeting and post battle quotes, wishing that Tatsu was even remotely useful like Tora is.
* SadisticChoice: The ''Elma Redux'' fight opens with one: either leave the Ghost Elmas alive, in which case Chain Attacks and reviving party members will be impossible for the entire battle, or hit Elma will a dark Blade Combo to apply Seal Reinforcements...[[TurnsRed and Elemental Awakening]]. It's possible to immediately break the Awakening with Monado Purge, but the timing to use it before Elma can decimate the party is extremely tight.
* SequelHook: Elma intends to use what she learns from Alrest to help her unlock the secrets of [[EldritchLocation planet Mira]].
-->'''Elma:''' "I must learn what I can from this world, and use that knowledge to crack Mira's secrets wide open..."
* SNKBoss: ''Elma Redux'', the Challenge Battle required for bringing Elma into Alrest, is also a leading contender for the hardest bonus boss in the game.
* StockAudioClip: Notably, none of the Drivers or Blades have new audio clips for Elma, reusing the clips for Common Blades with her in battle and using existing lines for their post-battle interactions with her, leading to an effect similar to ActorExistenceLimbo.
* SuperMode: Pressing the "R" and "-" buttons while Elma is in the party and the Party Gauge is full initiates Overdrive mode.
* TookALevelInBadass: Not that she wasn't plenty badass in her own game, but in ''X'', Elma's signature art Ghost Factory was a simple DoppelgangerSpin that gave her and her allies guaranteed evasion against a set number of attacks. In this game, the "ghosts" are [[DoppelgangerAttack fully capable of attacking independently and taking a significant beating before vanishing]].
* UnexpectedGameplayChange: Just having her in the party allows you to replace Chain Attack with ''Xenoblade X's'' Overdrive system. She's the only blade that just by equipping her changes the game mechanics so drastically. That said, the game doesn't force you into not using Chain Attack, but the choice to have such a unexpected homage to ''X'' can come as a surprise that late in the game.
* UnstableEquilibrium: The more Ghost Elmas you defeat, the easier the fight gets. Defeating a Ghost Elma frees up a bar in the Party Gauge and reduces her overall offensive capabilities. Once you defeated all Ghost Elmas, then victory is in your sight, provided that you can prevent her from summoning more.
* WorldsBestWarrior: One of if not the most skilled warriors around. The Nopon Archsage describes her as "a mighty warrior from [[MemeticMutation a whole different planet]]".
* YearOutsideHourInside: The Nopon Archsage mentions that Elma's consciousness has been brought to Alrest, but the real her is still inside a training simulator in New Los Angeles on Mira. He states that he altered the time flow, to which Elma accurately calculates that 1 year on Alrest will only be 10 seconds on Mira. This means Rex can call on her all he needs, whenever he(or the Player) likes, and not affect her duties on Mira.

* AccidentalMisnaming: Tends to get characters' names wrong, such as calling Dromarch "Bromarch." Even gets into a misnaming match with the Tirkin countess, Omulette, at the end of her personal quest.
* AchievementsInIgnorance:
** Finch can forget that she used up an attack, thus using it again with no cooldown.
** She managed to uncover and thwart a coup in the "Most Awful News?!" DLC quest.... out of sheer coincidence.
* BirdPeople: A Blade in the shape of a green-feathered, humanoid bird. Her personal side quest revolves around the fact that people who don’t know any better tend to think she’s a Tirkin, including the Tirkin themselves.
* BlushSticker: She has two round red blushes on her cheeks to highlight her cuteness.
* BoldExplorer: Loves adventure and discovering new places and sights to behold. Except that with her brain problems, all it takes is a minute of not looking somewhere to forget all about it. Which makes her happier because it means everything is always new to her.
* TheDitz: Scatterbrained, forgetful, and adorable. She even forgets her name upon being summoned, despite [[ThirdPersonPerson having said it multiple times]].
* EnergyBall: Finch's Lv. I Special, ''Blast of Fresh Air'', has her create a ball of condensed Wind energy and hit it with her hammer as if she was in a mini-golf course.
* ForgetfulJones: Her special skill is called "Bird-Brained" and she fits the bill.
* GeniusDitz: Despite how bird-brained she is most of the time, one of her field skills is entomology, which suggests that her knowledge of insects is one of the few things she is able to remember long-term in addition to her flight skills.
* GogglesDoNothing: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed.]] Although Finch will not usually pull her goggles over her eyes, [[LetsGetDangerous she will do so for her Level 3 Special.]]
* {{Irony}}: Finch is a Wind Blade, which are normally associated with truth and knowledge, and she tends to be very forgetful.
** Kunihiko Tanaka noted that he based Finch's design on a cockatiel that he owned. Cockatiels are known for being rather intelligent and have particularly good memories, making Finch's [[TheDitz ditzy nature]] even more ironic.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Well, more of a [[AssistCharacter Mechanically Unusual Assist Character]], but Finch is the only Rare Blade who wields a Shield Hammer that does not boost their Driver's defense. Rather, she boosts her Driver's agility instead.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: She sounds pretty snarky when drawing aggro in combat.
-->'''Finch:''' Someone's being ''TAR-GET-TED''.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Finch mentions that she dreams of being buried in a pile of Stuffed Meaty Carrots. Unfortunately, sometimes she forgets and mistakes other people's dishes for her own - like Juicy Samod or Cream Orange Paratha.

For Fiora in her youth, see [[Characters/XenobladeChronicles1Protagonists here]].
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Her moveset is based on how she fights very early on in ''Xenoblade Chronicles'', but she's one of the strongest Blades ''in the entire game''. [[spoiler:This is justified; the Shulk and Fiora in ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' are implied to be from six months after the end of the original game, and Fiora had plenty of experience as a very powerful Mechon. She's regenerated into a Homs at the end of the game, which means that ''[=XC2=]'' Fiora combines her early-game moveset with her late-game potency from the original.]]
* ArtEvolution: She looks a bit different rendered in this game's art style.
* BackgroundMusicOverride: If she is engaged to an active party member when the party is battling a Unique Monster, "You Will Know Our Names" will play instead of the normal Unique Monster battle theme.
* BadassNormal: She is not a super advanced robot [[spoiler:at least, not anymore]] or a wielder of a legendary sword, just a teenage HumanAlien with two hunting knives. She is still one of the strongest Blades in the game. In fact, she can outdamage ''both the Aegis and the Monado''! [[spoiler:Somewhat justified, as she's an ExperiencedProtagonist who spent a healthy amount of time in an overpowered robot body.]]
* CombatMedic: Though she's classified as a Healer, Fiora has strong offensive capabilities due to her high critical hit ratio, especially her Art that has the critical recharge effect. Her Specials are also capable of restoring HP: Level I spawns HP Potions, Level II heals her for the damage dealt if it crits, and Level III heals the entire party for part of the damage dealt.
* CriticalHitClass: Fiora's Knives are tied for the highest critical hit rate of all weapons, and one of her skills increases her damage output each time she scores a crit. Another boosts the critical hit rate of the ''whole party'' at high Affinity, allowing Blades with relatively low crit rates of their own like Pandoria to hit like a freight train.
* DownloadableContent: She can only be unlocked by playing through Challenge Mode.
* DualWielding: She wields two knives like she did in the first ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' game.
* GlassCannon: Especially on Rex or Mòrag, engaging Fiora and spamming her Screw Edge or Universe Flicker especially can produce the absolute best DPS in the game with extremely high critical hit rates, and with Crit Heal builds her Driver can muscle their way through highly damaging attacks. However, if this is interrupted for even a split second, her Driver has a disproportionate amount of aggro to deal with along with low-ish defenses, an abysmal block rate and a lack of evasive or defensive Arts. While Mòrag can make up for this with the full-party Moongale Waltz healing Art, Rex isn't so lucky.
* GuestFighter: From the first ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' game.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Fiora can be used freely in the Land of Challenge, but due to inter-dimensional shenanigans, she only joins the party when in that land. She can be freely unlocked for use by completing the HarderThanHard "Dino-Drama" challenge, which is only available after clearing the game (which can be transferred to a NewGamePlus).
* HairAntennae: Has them for this game, which like Shulk's ''ahoge'' was carried over into ''Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition''.
* InnocentlyInsensitive:
** Post-battle banter with Mòrag has Fiora comment that Mòrag reminds her of her big brother. [[LadyLooksLikeADude Mòrag]] attempts to correct her by saying sister, not liking the idea that Fiora confused her for a man too.
--->'''Fiora:''' You know, Mòrag, you remind me of my big brother a lot.\
'''Mòrag:''' Back up there, Fiora. Surely you meant "sister".
** Is on the receiving end with Rex when post-battle banter has him call her a "stout ally" as appreciation for her power.
--->'''Rex:''' Fiora, I'm glad to have you around. You're a stout ally for sure!\
'''Fiora:''' Rex, I don't think any girl would like being called "stout".
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Fiora's pretty standard in combat, but like Poppibuster and Shulk, she can be switched between party members without using an Overdrive Protocol. She also can fight at full capacity in Spirit Crucible Elpys.
* MovesetClone: Her Knives use same Art animation as Twin Rings.
* MythologyGag:
** Fiora's post-battle banter with Shulk tends to reference their previous dynamics in their home game, such as their worrying for each other. She will also mention their past team members, like comparing Mòrag with Dunban.
** If Fiora is sent out when battling against mechanical foes, she will voice her hesitance in fighting machines [[spoiler:due to the fact that she used to have a mechanized body and understood the Mechon's plight back at her home game.]] Post-battle banter with Poppi also alludes to this.
** Her Blade Specials and some of the Arts she grants are based on her Arts at the beginning of ''Xenoblade Chronicles'', but she's far more powerful here [[spoiler:just as she was as a Mechon, where she was one of the most powerful party members, making her an ExperiencedProtagonist]]. [[spoiler:Her being in a Homs body isn't because this is the early-game version of Fiora, but because her body was regenerated at the end of the original game, although she's gone back to her longer hairstyle from the early game.]]
* ThePollyanna: Always cheerful in battle, just like how she usually is and ''especially'' [[spoiler:since she helped save her world and now has her original Homs body back]].

--> '''Floren:''' You even think of hurting a flower, and I swear, I will ''end you.''
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He often makes himself out as a shy, curious little child who is nice and helpful, but it's really just an act to manipulate people and make them do his bidding or to give him stuff. Some of his post-battle dialogue with other characters also has him say some rather mean things.
* DeliberatelyCuteChild: Floren exploits his cute looks for all they're worth. It's even an exclusive Field Skill, which lets him get free items by charming certain [=NPCs=]. In his introduction, he briefly drops the goody-two-shoes act to celebrate duping another rube.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Several characters refer to him as a young girl, but he rarely bothers to correct them. He's listed as male for the purpose of Merc Mission deployment requirements.
* GreenThumb: As his flowery appearance and green attire suggests, plantlife is his domain, though it's folded into DishingOutDirt as far as the game's element system is concerned.

* BlackAndWhiteMorality: He has a really hard time with the idea of NecessarilyEvil, which causes a few problems when he attempts to shut down Tantal's black market (aka the only reliable source of food in the icy Titan).
* DontThinkFeel: According to him, the idea of living with justice only seems complicated because people think too hard about morality. He thus sees it as his job to cut through that and show them the path.
* {{Foil}}: To Perceval. Not just in a gameplay sense, with Perceval's skills being focused on self-healing and one-hit kills and Godfrey's skills focused on stat boosts when at critical health, but in a narrative sense as well. While both are all about justice, Perceval is [[KnightInSourArmor more pessimistic]], [[ThouShaltNotKill is hesitant about killing]], would prefer to [[IWorkAlone work alone]], and [[BlackAndGreyMorality tends to be rather grey when it comes to justice]], whereas Godfrey [[WideEyedIdealist is overly optimistic]], [[BlackAndWhiteMorality has a black and white view of justice]], works well with others, and will not hesitate to get his hands dirty when the time calls for it.
* ForGreatJustice: Godfrey is obsessed with justice, righteousness, and helping the downtrodden, which is reflected in his exclusive Merc Missions.
* PowerStereotypeFlip: He's a passionate and HotBlooded ''ice'' Blade that always talks about fiery justice. He's pretty confused as to why he's ice element himself, and [[ImplausibleDeniability reasons that it has to be blue flames instead]].
* ShutUpHannibal: After a criminal named Sandstream leads Godfrey around on a quest just to show him how terrible the world is and how meaningless his ideals are, namely by showing how a young woman named Harghal would willing turn to a life of crime if it meant [[{{Greed}} getting the money]] regardless of her good reasonings (namely supporting herself and her struggling mother), Godfrey points out that every wicked thing he saw was directly or indirectly the result of Sandstream's actions (namely being the one to convince Harghal to produce the highly potent drink he then intentionally spiked to wild monsters to make them go on a rampage), and swiftly takes him down.
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: All Godfrey's field skills are exclusive to him, and all of them are called for by at least a few merc missions. It's often worth making him team leader just to get the most out of him.

* HiddenDepths: He's a rather talented patissier, with one of his field skills giving him the ability to make sweets for the party to use as pouch items.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: He has a habit of making dramatic poses during his speeches.
* TheStrategist: Gorg's Heart-to-Heart and personal sidequest reveal his strong tactical acumen, especially in the kitchen.

* TheAtoner: She vows to use her great power for good to make up for the destruction of the Theospeti Temple in the past.
* TheBerserker: She goes on a rampage upon utilizing her full power. There's a reason she was sealed up.
* DragonKnight: Her mech armor is styled after a dragon as to emphasize her great but uncontrollable power.
* GlassCannon: On top of being an Ether Cannon Blade, which is naturally glassy, one of her abilities increases any damage done by, and taken by, her Driver at max Affinity.
* HimeCut: The official art book reveals that she has one underneath her headgear.
* InfinityMinusOneSword: She is remarkably powerful for a rare Blade, only losing out to the likes of Poppi QTπ, Mythra, KOS-MOS, Zenobia and several DLC Blades. She is able to equip up to three Aux Cores, is able to snipe enemies from a distance while other team members distract them, and is easy to unlock her full affinity tree. However, while her battle skill, Dissolve Seal, allows her Driver to deal more damage at max affinity, it also has them receive more damage in return, which especially becomes a liability in Bringer of Chaos mode.
* LaserBlade: For her level 3 special Final Retribution, she causes the cannon to emit a beam of lightning that she swings at the enemy like a sword.
* MinmaxersDelight: Her unique passive [[GlassCannon increases damage taken]], sure. But it's on an Ether Cannon, one of only two ranged weapons, and one that comes bundled with aggro-reduction tools. If her Driver's getting hit by anything more than the occasion AOE attack something's gone horribly wrong.
* MundaneUtility: One of Ursula's ''many'' mercenary missions requires three electric blades and three ether cannon blades, and said mission requires Ursula herself to be in it, meaning that one of the blades on the mission must fit both qualities. Herald is one such reliably accessible example.
* NotSoStoic:
** Once her seal gets undone and she loses control, she has a tendency to scream as she rampages.
** On a more lighthearted note, she outright ''laughs'' at the idea of lending her power to [[TheFriendNobodyLikes Dagas]].
* OneManArmy: She took down an army of Laias by herself, noting her similarity in power to [[LightEmUp KOS-MOS]]. If she and KOS-MOS are under the same Driver during battle and the Driver switches to Herald, she might say that she'll show no mercy to their foes like KOS-MOS would.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: She destroyed a temple and killed nearly everyone in it by herself as well as took down many Laias that was overwhelming the party in the side quest "The Calm and the Storm". However, her [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity tremendous power]] caused her to attack the party and nearly overwhelmed them including the Aegis (though admittedly Mythra and her abilities are never used in the cutscene confrontations). If she hadn't stopped herself from proceeding on the attack the party may have died on the spot. Even in the Blade-weakening environment of the Crucible she puts up a tremendous fight, though the party (also affected in the Crucible of course) still manage to beat her without killing her, giving her confidence in their words that they will stop her rampages as many times as needed.
-->'''Nia:''' A few seconds more and we'd have been toast too...
* PowerGivesYouWings: The only Blade to travel by floating via her dragon-based mech armor aside from Sheba, who [[IdleRich sits in her giant floating bathtub]].
* SchizoTech: Her futuristic draconic mech armor, especially considering that she is obtainable in Tantal.
* SealedBadassInACan: After she went berserk in the past and destroyed Theospiti Temple, her previous Driver [[CantLiveWithoutYou killed himself to stop her]], returning her to her Core Crystal. This crystal was then hidden behind a cracked wall ''and'' sealed inside an ominous altar that requires an offering of a lot of [[BloodMagic blood (or blood-like things, such as red fruits)]] to open. Naturally, opening the seal causes [[TheDreaded a bit of panic]] among the residents of Theosoir, and the King himself meets the party outside the shrine to inform them of just why that Core Crystal was sealed away. He [[ThePowerOfTrust chooses to trust]] that Rex and company can keep Herald's power in check, though. His trust proves well placed when the party is able to restrain Herald's rampage without killing her.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Manages this despite not possessing any memory of the battle that traumatized her. Herald is emotionally muted, takes no pleasure from combat and is constantly wary of the collateral damage her power might cause. She's also the only Blade who asks you to ''stop'' unlocking her nodes as she levels up.
* StationaryWings: Herald's armor has dragon wings that don't flap, but she is capable of flight regardless.
* TheStoic: Even more than KOS-MOS. Herald is only focused on whatever orders her Driver gives her and prefers not to make small talk with others.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: She doesn't exactly lose her mind, but her inability to control her power has her attack anyone in her way, friend and foe alike, under certain conditions.

* BadPowersGoodPeople: Kas herself is a friendly, cheery girl, who happens to radiate bad luck and darkness.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Her element is darkness and she's a living bad luck charm, but she is one of the nicest Blades you'll ever meet.
* FamedInStory: Her previous Driver was a local Argentum celebrity, one of their best salvagers and a very rare Nopon Driver. Well, until he got eaten by a giant fish. Today, only stories remain.
* GuideDangIt: Kasandra is one of the hardest Blades obtainable through sidequests to acquire, if only because the process is so subtle. Firstly, the party must acquire info about the "Greedy Monster" Gluttonous Marlin through either an informant or a Nopon named Razzlydazzly at Argentum, which can only be obtained once Mor Ardain is unlocked. From there, Rex needs to salvage at Chansagh Wastes in Mor Ardain until Gluttonous Marlin spawns, and its spawn rate is affected just like any regular salvage enemies, meaning Rex will need to deliberately underperform (i.e. use Normal Cylinders, unequip any Blades with Salvage Mastery, and miss all prompts) to speed up the process. Finally, the party needs to kill it to finally get the Lucky Core Crystal.
* {{Irony}}: Kasandra is acquired from the "Lucky Core Crystal".
* IronicName: In English, her name is most likely a corruption of the prophet Cassandra. While the Cassandra of myth was cursed to always have her accurate predictions of doom and disaster be ignored, Kasandra herself spreads disaster while being completely unaware of her abilities. Then there's the fact that the Cassandra of myth's name meant "helper of men." If her last driver is any indication...
* TheJinx: Kasandra isn't aware of it, but her mere presence seems to cause misfortune to those around her, including her previous Driver who was eaten by a monster.
* MaskOfPower: She wears a fox-shaped mask behind her head most of the time, which rattles every time misfortune is about to happen. For Kasandra's Lv. 3 Blade Special, ''Secret Desire'', she enters an unconscious state upon putting on her mask to draw upon her true power.
* MeaningfulName: In Japanese, Kasandra's name is related to the Japanese phrase 重ね重ねの不幸 ("kasane gasane no fukou"), which translates to "run of misfortune."
* {{Miko}}: Not her actual job, but her powers and manner of dress take some cues in this regard.
* PrecisionFStrike: Upon using a v. 3 Blade Special, she'll say "Karma's a bitch!" She normally never swears otherwise.
* ThePollyanna: She's always cheerful, no matter the circumstances. Even when she details bad things happening to her during her Heart-to-Heart, she opts to always keep her head high and her spirits lifted. Though granted, part of that is because she doesn't know her mask is the cause of her misfortune.
* WideEyedIdealist: She is completely unaware of her own powers and ditzy enough to not realize even when told straight to her face (but she is aware that she can't fully control them yet). The dissonance between her attitude as a perpetually cheerful girl always ready to help those in need and most people's desire to get the hell away from the "calamity witch" is hilarious.

* BadassAdorable: "Cute, fierce, fighting fit!" is how she introduces herself when first summoned, and she does everything in her power to live up to those attributes. Course her MotorMouth means the rest of the party sometimes end up finding her more annoying than cute.
* GenkiGirl: All it takes is one look at her intro or profile art to know she's full of energy. She approaches most every situation with gusto.
* MotorMouth: Will happily talk her Driver's ears off (or anyone who will indulge her for that matter). One bit of victory chatter has Nia begging Kora to let her get some sleep this time.

----

* BlackBox: She is seemingly programmed with inherent knowledge of the world independent of her memories as a Blade, such as how [[spoiler:a SpaceElevator like]] the World Tree is built. Even KOS-MOS herself hasn't an inkling of the origin of such information.
* BlackComedy: Quite a few of her post-battle quotes are hilariously dark due to her analyzing how to respond to everything as a threat. One has her suggest to Finch that she might be more useful as food than in battle; in another, she tells Vess that the hungry and distracted are usually the first to die in war.
* CombatStilettos: Her feet are given high heels for some reason. The heels can be extended to lock her feet into the the ground and hold her in place when she uses especially powerful attacks.
* TheComicallySerious: Most humor involving KOS-MOS is about her acting serious in silly situations.
* CrazyPrepared: She's always ready for just about anything. [[BlackComedy To the horror of everyone who talks to her.]]
* {{Cyborg}}: Blades could in a sense all be considered this when one considers their origins, but KOS-MOS is perhaps the most overt example. She behaves very much like a robot most of the time, but Astelle remarks that a lot of her body is organic and integrated with machinery.
* {{Determinator}}: She's always great when it comes to critical situation. But some times she'll still lose.
* DoAnythingRobot: When it comes to weapons, story wise, if they exist, she can use them.
* FlowerMotif: Her name is derived from a flower.
* {{Foil}}: Appropriately to T-elos. They have opposite elements and personalities, with T-elos more expressive and aggressive than [[TheStoic KOS-MOS]]. In addition, KOS-MOS is a long range fighter as opposed to T-elos's melee combat. Their level 4 specials are opposite in how they are carried out; KOS-MOS' X-Buster fires a barrage of lasers while T-elos' U-Teneritas is a concentrated attack.
* FunWithAcronyms: Her name is a recursive acronym meaning "'''K'''osmos '''O'''bey '''S'''trategic '''M'''ultiple '''O'''peration '''S'''ystem".
* GatlingGood: She wields Ether Cannons styled after the Zohar.
* TheGhost: Shion Uzuki and Allen Ridgeley are mentioned in the [[https://youtu.be/cXQZRmG6DJk?t=49 artbook]] of KOS-MOS' concept art to have created KOS-MOS's "KOS-MOS:Refrain" model at an unknown date, but they haven't appeared in person.
* GlassCannon: [[AvertedTrope Averted.]] While Ether Cannon users are generally {{Squishy Wizard}}s, one of KOS-MOS's skills reduces her damage taken by 30% at max Affinity, giving her better survivability.
* GuestFighter: She's from ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}'', Creator/MonolithSoft's previous RPG series, and has made appearances in various crossover games as well, such as ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone'' and ''VideoGame/EndlessFrontier''.
* GunsAkimbo: She wields two Ether Cannons styled after the Zohar. Her Driver can only wield one, though.
* KickTheDog: Her coldly logical mindset often leads her to say some rather cruel things to her allies. For example, when Zeke would tell a quest giver that he has a "500% success rate!", KOS-MOS chimes in, stating that she "[calculates] Zeke's success rate to be approximately 54.28746%." She also says she won't treat Tora as "top priority" to protect, suggesting that he should turn to Poppi instead.
-->'''Tora:''' [[WhatTheHellHero KOS-MOS too cruel!]]
* LightEmUp: She is one of the relative few Light-elemental Blades. Prior to DLC she shared the element only with Mythra and, if one were very lucky with Tiger! Tiger!, Poppi.
* MeaningfulName: Her name means "order" in Greek. According to WordOfGod, her name references a flower with the same name.
* MythologyGag:
** In KOS-MOS's side quest, "Artificial Intelligence", she winds up befriending a young girl from Tantal named Astelle, who is a nod to [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} Shion Uzuki]].
** Everything about this KOS-MOS is a call back to the very first Episode of Xenosaga. The design is almost identical to her V1 body with a slightly altered headpiece and added Blade features; X-Buster is her ultimate attack like in the original game; and her awakening cutscene is a recreation of her awakening at the beginning of Episode I.
* NotSoStoic: If dismissed, she briefly drops her emotionless affect and appears genuinely wistful.
--> '''KOS-MOS:''' Erasing master's registry entries. Initiating format procedure. ...Did I prove of use to you?
* OneManArmy: She took down an army of Artificial Blades by herself.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: In gameplay, she's a very powerful Blade in her own right, but is a poor choice for Rex because she unfortunately has to share her element and battle role with [[GameBreaker Mythra]].[[note]]KOS-MOS' only real "niche" with Rex would be as a temporary replacement for Mythra in Chapter 7.[[/note]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: She took down over 90 Artificial Blades by herself and it's implied her power rivals that of the Aegis. Her Blade quest in part involves reassuring other countries that KOS-MOS is under control and not going to wreck the region.
* TheRival: To T-elos, carrying over from their home series. Mythra, Zenobia, and Poppi also consider her a bit of a rival as well.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: Blue hair? Check. Red eyes? Check. An android? Check. Uses white clothing for most of the time? Check. EmotionlessGirl? Check.
* RobotGirl: One of the most iconic robot girls in video games, though in this she is clearly more a cyborg.
* SeriesMascot: Even people who've never played a ''Xeno'' game have at least heard of KOS-MOS.
* ShesBack: Meta example: her appearance in this game, for Xeno-series games.
* ShootOutTheLock: From what she has to say about it, her Lockpicking skill is clearly less than subtle.
-->'''KOS-MOS:''' Erasing...
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: Her hair is blue and she's very quiet and reserved.
* TheStoic: In her original game she was a machine who didn't seem to be programmed with emotions. Whether that applies to this KOS-MOS is debatable, but she certainly shows a similarly dispassionate demeanor.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: All the hints that this KOS-MOS is a copy of the original and that the original version must exist somewhere pay off in [[spoiler: ''Xenoblade 3: Future Redeemed'' when the series is shown to be connected to ''Xenosaga'' with the original KOS-MOS falling back to earth in that games ending.]]
* SmugSuper: She insists that Sheba refer to her as a "badass".
* SuperReflexes: Combined with CrazyPrepared for awesome.
* SwissArmyWeapon: KOS-MOS herself. Specifically her arms.
* TechnoBabble: Every time she informs something about their current location or the enemy, specifically about her current condition.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With T-elos. If KOS-MOS is in the party for the completion of the Lingering Resentment quest, she will chastise T-elos for her aggression and the two agree that they will never see eye to eye.
* UndyingLoyalty: Harm her friends and she will nullify you.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Zeke's cousin, Astelle, believes KOS-MOS may be the most powerful Blade on the face of Alrest and given how she has firsthand experience with KOS-MOS's capabilities she doesn't believe this without merit. KOS-MOS for her part only considers herself "on par" with Mythra's battle output.

* AmbiguouslyGay: She becomes flustered when speaking with [[MsFanservice Perun,]] and outright asks if she can be a part of [[HaremSeeker Sheba's]] entourage.
* {{BFS}}: Played with. Her extra arms are gigantic and scale up any weapon they get their hands on to their size. Her usual katana dwarfs the Aegis when she uses it, but when wielded by a Driver it's one of the smallest blades in the game.
* CurbStompBattle: When she expresses concern that Gormott's Ardainian garrison does not seem up to par in skills or training, the captain tells her not to worry, for their strength lies in their Titan superweapons. Her reaction is to request a one-on-one duel with the Alrest equivalent of a large tank, and promptly wreck it in one hit (via CatchAndReturn, no less). The soldiers get the message.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: There's a huge, blinking eye on the back of her head.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of military stuff in general and ships in particular.
* HeroesPreferSwords: She's perfectly capable of using her gigantic arms to punch enemies, but prefers using a sword because, in her words, it's more "romantic".
* HeroicBuild: She's probably the most visibly muscular woman in the cast, though this only really manifests in her abs and secondary arms.
* HotBlooded: Newt is intense. There's really no other word.
* HypocriticalHumor: She's among the least qualified Blades in the cast to question [[WalkingShirtlessScene Zenobia's]] lack of proper warrior attire. Naturally, she does anyway.
* LeeroyJenkins: Her side quest makes it increasingly clear that even with all the love she has for the army, she would make a ''terrible'' soldier. Her first reflex when facing any hardship is to run in and crush it with all her might, and is often gone before anyone can tell her to calm down. It only works because might is something she has in spades. By the end, she has the respect of the entire Ardainian army, and even Emperor Niall himself is praising her strength... and also pleading her to stop rushing in like that before she gets herself killed (which would be crushing to the soldiers who now see her as a beloved hero).
* MeaningfulName: Newts are a subfamily of Salamanders, which were once believed to have been born of fire.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Comes with two huge extra arms that float around her. They're FloatingLimbs but still act like they're connected to her body (though their shoulders are at head level).
* NoSell: Her Last Line of Defense skill will allow her Driver (and the rest of the party, if they're close to her) shrug off OneHitKill moves like [[SuperBoss Tyrannotitan Kurodil's]]''Ultra Anihilation Flare.''
* {{Otaku}}: Military variant. She gushes whenever she comes across Titan weaponry and anything regarding Mor Ardain's military. She'll also often recite information about them, much to the annoyance of those around her.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: As a Chroma Katana, she is best suited for Mòrag. Unfortunately, Mòrag already has Brighid, who is also a Fire-elemental Tank and is much stronger than Newt. That said, she does have a use in giving Mòrag a Fire Blade with a Smash art when under AI control.
** This also applies to her unique rarity among the Rare Blades no matter the save file. The only Blade she's more common than is ''KOS-MOS.'' This means every character is likely to have a better Fire Blade ''and'' a better Chroma Katana by the time she is pulled.
* StoneWall: Her Last Line of Defense skill cuts all damage that her Driver, and any nearby party members take, by up to 40% when maxed out.
* TopHeavyGuy: Her body is normally proportioned, except for the two extra arms that are humongous. In her intro, she can do push-ups no problem, but falls over when she does a sit-up.
* UnknownRival: She's unaware of [[FantasticRacism Nim's]] dislike towards her and her admiration for Mor Ardain.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: She wears ''sleeves,'' just not much else.

----

* FantasticRacism: She has a low opinion of Mor Ardain, as she finds their exploitation of nature to be abhorrent. Throughout her sidequest, she often assumes Mor Ardain is up to no good.
* {{Irony}}: Nim greatly disdains Mor Ardain. Her TrademarkFavoriteFood is the Tri-Color Bowl, an Ardainian dish.
* LittleBitBeastly: Has animal limbs and nose.
* MartialPacifist: Non-violent to the point that she's been known to attempt to reason with monsters, but when the talking obviously fails she gets pissed and starts punching. Hard.
* MultipleHeadCase: Possibly. She has what appear to be two pet foxes, and they seem to be sentient... but they look like they grow out of her back, complete with forelimbs of their own. ''Yikes.''
* PunnyName: The names of Nim's two foxes, Kit and Sunny, are a play on [[AsianFoxSpirit Kitsune]].
* ShoutOut: Her design brings to mind [[VideoGame/StarOceanTheSecondStory Ashton Anchors]], who becomes fused with a two-headed dragon and has their heads protrude from his shoulders just like Kit and Sunny. Though it's unknown whether Nim is actually fused with them like Ashton.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: She's able to communicate with [[FantasticFoxes Phonexes]]. Nim also tries to speak to a large Antol in Temperantia during her side quest to free the Phonexes it has in its captivity, but that goes with as much success as you'd think speaking to a wild non-sapient beast would go. In fact, she has little success communicating with any animal except for Phonexes, loath though she is to admit it.
* VertebrateWithExtraLimbs: Again, possibly -- if Kit and Sunny are physically fused to Nim, that means they have a total of six arms together.
* YouAreACreditToYourRace: Her stance on Mòrag. Despite all of her [[FantasticRacism assumptions]] of Mor Ardain, Mòrag is the one Ardainian she considers to be a good person, and can even be heard saying that she wants to change Mòrag's opinion of the Empire, never mind the fact that she's the Special Inquisitor.

* AwesomeButImpractical: His Brandist skill gives him a small chance to defeat humanoid enemies but fail against Unique Monsters and bosses. Common humanoid enemies can be defeated quickly through conventional means and the most difficult fights against humanoid enemies are either Unique Monsters, bosses, and [[OptionalBoss optional bosses]].
* CruelMercy: The best option for his Heart-to-Heart "Poetic License" reveals this to be the reason he refuses to kill: death is too easy for evildoers compared to being forced to live and atone for their sins.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being of the Darkness element, looking like a demon and being a ruthless assassin in his previous incarnation, he is very heroic.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Believes that letting his foes spend the rest of their lives locked away for their crimes is far worse a fate than just killing them, as his old nemesis finds out the hard way.
* ForTheEvulz: An assassin you encounter during his sidequest reveals that his previous incarnation would slaughter anyone, man, woman, or child, just because he liked it.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: There is a chance for Zeke to be his Driver. However, if you start Perceval's sidequest while Zeke has him engaged, Zeke and Pandoria will be [[PutOnABus nowhere to be found]] [[TheBusCameBack until the very end]].
* HeelFaceTurn: As sadistic as his previous incarnation apparently was, some unknown event happened to cause him to try to leave the Bloody Lobsters and cut all ties to being an assassin. The resulting altercation with his former allies led to the death of said incarnation and his core crystal being lost for decades.
* IWorkAlone: When the party tracks down a doctor and his primary accomplice in a fraud scam, Perceval immediately rushes ahead of the party to subdue them both for the Ardainian authorities to take into custody. He then promptly ignores the party's concerns about working on matters like that together, and arranges for Merc Missions where he personally doles out justice to others he determined to be involved in a similar fashion. Of course, while Perceval must be the leader of any teams you send out for these missions, you can still back him up with other Blades.
* KnightErrant: His desire is to punish evildoers wherever they may be. This is also subverted in that even though he has a habit of operating on his own, he's still [[BondCreatures a Blade bound to a Driver]].
* MythologyGag: He has a few references to ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'' surrounding him:
** His Japanese name, Vasara, is also shared with Ga Jiarg's Skell, which is appropriate since the Wrothian race also has samurai influences.
** The antagonists of his Blade quest are a [[MurderInc guild of assassins]] he was once part of called the Bloody Lobsters, a one-letter difference from the ''X'' side quest villain, the Blood Lobster.
* OneHitKill: One of Percival's unique skills allows his Driver to kill any humanoid enemy in a single blow. However, it fails on Unique Monsters and bosses, and the odds of it happening are low: between 1-5%, depending on his Driver affinity and skill level.
* SituationalSword: He fights best against hordes of enemies thanks to his Eater of Men skill. Outside that situation, he is generally outclassed.
* ThouShaltNotKill: Although he was a ruthless assassin in his previous incarnation, this instance of Perceval has sworn to never take a human life in his duties.
* UnstableEquilibrium: Every time he defeats an enemy his power increases. This can often encourage the player to take down hordes of enemies to reap this bonus.
* WarriorPoet: Has a very graceful manner of speech. Rex outright refers to his speaking patterns as poetic.
* WeHelpTheHelpless: The lesser option in "Poetic License" reveals he helps people out of distaste for those who use their power to bend the rules of society for their own immoral gain, hence a strong desire to help those in need.

* TheBait: During her personal quest, she suggests that she splits away from the main party to distract the kidnappers while Rex and company free all the children.
* CompositeCharacter: InUniverse, she serves as one to Godfrey and Perceval. She's noble, kind, and heroic like Godfrey, but she's also calm, calculating, and unforgiving to evil-doers like Perceval.
* ElementalHairColors: She's an Ice element Blade with long silver ponytail with a bluish glow at the end.
* ForGreatJustice: Much like Godfrey, she likes going on about smiting evil and fighting for justice.
* JigglePhysics: Compared to the other Blades, Perun's breasts bounce ''a lot'' more noticeably.
* MsFanservice: Her panties are always visible. Her in-game art is the same as you see on this page, only in closer detail. From behind it's as if she has no skirt at all, looking more like a revealing leotard that is partitioned simply to give the impression of being underwear. Aside from her revealing clothes, she also has a habit of treating her lance like the pole a exotic dancer would use. She also has some of the most noticeable JigglePhysics of all the Blades.
* OfCorsetsSexy: Her outfit includes a blue corset.
* StraightMan: Acts as one in the DLC quest "Cleared of All Charges" towards the other two "justice" Blades, Godfrey and Perceval.
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: You'll need to exploit this to complete her chart, since she has at least one Affinity Node that requires using her exclusive skill, Chivalry, in Merc Missions.
* {{Underboobs}}: She's basically got an inverse CleavageWindow going on that shows the underside of her bouncy chest.

* ArtificialHuman: Artificial ''Blade'', just like Poppi. Poppibuster has the same strengths as her, meaning restricted ether environments like Spirit Crucible Elpys are a NoSell on him.
* BadassAdorable: In addition to Poppi Mk. II being just as adorable as Poppi α, when Nia first sees Poppibuster, she admits she thinks he looks kinda cute. He appreciates the compliment enough to return the favor, and he ''is'' a powerful Artificial Blade who swings a massive Shield Hammer easily.
* DeadpanSnarker: Poppibuster tends to be rather sarcastic.
* DownloadableContent: The quest to unlock him is part of the Expansion Pass.
* {{Expy}}: Poppibuster to the [[Anime/ExpelledFromParadise Arhan]]; the former shares the same MiniMecha appearance as the latter, including its illustrator Masatsugu Saito. He also closely resembles the [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Gurren and Lagann]].
* LightEmUp: Poppibuster uses the Light element.
* MeaningfulName: Played with - Poppibuster's name is meant to suggest it has enough power to take down Poppi. She allows it because [[RuleOfCool she thought it sounded cool]], and it was still much better than the other names suggested (those being "Poppi Obey Powered Panzer Inferno (P.O.P.P.I.)" and "Soosoo presents: New Poppi XL Deluxe" respectively).
* MetaMecha: Poppibuster is a MiniMecha piloted by a RobotGirl, albeit Poppibuster has his own AI independent of Poppi Mk. II, who herself is just a RemoteBody for Poppi.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Being an Artificial Blade, Poppibuster can be freely swapped between any member of the party (except Tora) without needing an Overdrive Protocol. He is also immune to the effects of Spirit Crucible Elpys.
* NoBiologicalSex: Though an artificial Blade, Poppibuster is referred as a male while Poppi Mk. II is female. However, for merc missions, the game [[spoiler:lists Poppibuster's gender as 4, just like Roc]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Poppibuster is the strongest Shield Hammer Blade. Unfortunately for him, Shulk's Monado is functionally an improved Shield Hammer, they share the same element, and Shulk possesses vastly superior offense ''and'' support abilities.
* RemoteBody: Poppi Mk. II has no will of her own (though she can take pre-programmed actions). Poppi α controls her remotely to pilot Poppibuster.
* RobotAntennae: Poppi Mk. II has an antenna atop her head, through which she receives control signals from Poppi α.
* SelfDestructMechanism: Poppibuster's Lv. 4 Special results in him [[StuffBlowingUp exploding once Poppi Mk. II smashes him with his own hammer]]. This leaves Poppi Mk. II temporarily exposed for about ten seconds until Poppibuster reforms. The Reconstitute Battle Skill actually encourages repeated usages of this as his Lv. 4 Special will increase in damage each time it's used per battle.
* ServileSnarker: Not to the same level as Lila or Poppi α, but Poppibuster sometimes shows a rather dry sense of humor towards his creator.
* ShoutOut: Can be seen as one to Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor, as both are suggested to be powerful enough to take down their designated namesakes.
* SuperStrength: Poppibuster has a maximum-level Superstrength skill, matched only by Wulfric and Zenobia. His case is justified, of course, by being a giant robot.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Notably averted with Poppibuster, whose AI doesn't have the Nopon dialect used by Poppi and Lila.

* TheAtoner: After their reincarnation by the heroes, her and Theory's personal side quest involves them atoning for their criminal Core Crystal Hunter past to the people of Fonsa Myma.
* BizarreAlienBiology: One of the most notable of the blades for it, since the balloon things on her are part of her body. [[ConstantlyCurious Adenine]] wants to squeeze them, but Praxis is dead set against it on the grounds that they're very ticklish.
* BoobsAndButtPose: Her artwork has her leaning forward to show her butt and bending her spine backwards to show her boobs. It's not the same pose as Theory's, but it gets the same effect, and it still looks like she's trying to herniate about 8 discs.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: In her and Theory's personal side quest, "Theory and Praxis," there is a mini quest that has the group find a bully in Uraya and retrieve something he stole from another kid. Praxis "threatens" to unleash her "Eye of Shining Justice" on the bully unless he behaves. Zeke then admits that her EyepatchOfPower is cooler than his.
* DefeatMeansPlayable: The party gets ahold of her Core Crystal after her Driver is KilledOffscreen at the end of the "Crystal Clear" quest.
* EyepatchOfPower: She and Theory sport eyepatches on opposite eyes, and they were both powerful thieves making lives miserable for Alrest before their defeat and reincarnation.
* GenkiGirl: Has a personality as bubbly as her appearance.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Despite having a [[GenkiGirl girly]] personality and even having the Girls' Talk skill, many characters note that some of Praxis's habits don't really show her being girly. Notably, she also has the Salvaging Mastery skill, which among female rare Blades only Newt and T-elos possess, and her lines for it have her note she finds it fun. Theory mentions that Praxis is horrible with housework in their combined side quest. In Kora's side quest, both she and Mythra are hesitant to have Praxis judge them on their "Girl Power" (provided she's also active in the party during the side quest to have her part) because some things they list off on Praxis not being girly include her being a messy eater and diving into the bathtub; Praxis storms off insulted.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Theory, whether as former Core Crystal hunters or under the custody of the heroes. For the latter, Praxis tries to be a CoolBigSis to the cold Theory due to their similarities and past history.
* IHatePastMe: Should the party opt to tell the reincarnated Praxis about her past life as a murderous thief, she becomes ''horrified'' at her past actions and vows to save Theory from that lifestyle as well.
* MsFanservice: Her outfit is one of the [[{{Stripperiffic}} most revealing]] out of the blades, and she has a pretty large bust size for a blade based on a teenage girl. In the artbook there's also an image of her wearing a bikini.
* ShipperOnDeck: She drops a line about Theory getting cozy with her Driver in her final Heart to Heart.
* SurprisinglySuddenDeath: Just as she and Theory are about to put their attack plan against the party into action in the "Crystal Clear" sidequest, Praxis suddenly returns to her Core Crystal to ''both'' sides' shock, with them assuming her criminal Driver, who wasn't present, was killed by the combination of Mor Ardainian troops and Garfront Mercs fighting the other criminal Core Crystal hunters off-screen.
* ThemeNaming: Her name (Latin for "practice") forms a thematic pair with Theory.
** Her Japanese name is taken from Mikumari-no-Kami, a goddess tasked with controlling the rain, which ties in their shared water motif.
* TookALevelInKindness: After being reawakened by the party, she becomes a lot more nicer and less sadistic compared to her past life.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Sending her into battle against giant bug enemies will cause her to freak out and request an exterminator.

----

* BathingBeauty: She spends about 90% of the time in her flying bathtub drinking tea, [[AwkwardlyPlacedBathtub which she uses to travel everywhere]], and [[NonNudeBathing her outfit is a fancy bathing suit]]. Also, one of her attacks involves [[RammingAlwaysWorks ramming]] the [[ImprovisedWeapon bathtub]] into her enemies, thus playing with CantBatheWithoutAWeapon and inverting DeadlyBath.
* CashGate: Sheba's powers and abilities revolve around amassing as much wealth as possible. Her Core Crystal must be purchased for 500,000 G, ignoring dev level, and you need to donate over a million G into her personal coffers to fully power her up. [[spoiler:Fortunately, you can at least recoup half of the initial cost of acquiring her by talking to the merchant again with her engaged, thanks to an oath sworn by said merchant's grandfather.]]
* ComedicLolicon: Considering she's a HaremSeeker, and is constantly attempting to recruit prepubescent girls to join her "entourage", this trope goes without saying.
* DiscOneNuke: She's considered pretty good as far as Ether Cannon Blades go, and she'd have to be to be worth 500,000 G just to get her Core Crystal (let alone the cash needed to access higher tiers of her Affinity Chart). That said, by exploiting the Salvage mechanic, you can buy her, and access her entire Affinity Chart, as early as Chapter 4 (or even 3, if you're extremely patient).
* FailedASpotCheck: She gets swindled out of the 1 million G you invested in her by buying an island in the Leftherean Archipelago with the promise of a beautiful mansion overlooking a large beach. Her illusion is shattered only when she finally opens her eyes on the island.
* FriendToAllChildren: First played with (she helps a child because she recognizes that child will one day grow up to be a beautiful woman, which fits Sheba's goal of having a massive lesbian tea party in the long term) but eventually the trope is played straight at the end of her sidequest, when she realizes just how pure and kind the children around her were, leading her to settle for a more modest tea party for Mor Ardainian little girls and young women instead of her lofty goal of a beachside harem-filled mansion.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: She lists Pandoria among her Entourage in the ''Sheba's Dream'' Heart-to-Heart. That said, it can be viewed before Zeke and Pandoria become party members.
* GlassCannon: A trait she shares with Ether Cannons in general, but it's predictably pronounced with Sheba's low defense and high attack modifiers. Her aggro-reduction passives are necessary for keeping her Driver out of the firing line, since they won't last long under direct attack.
* HaremSeeker: The English script merely uses "entourage" as a thinly-veiled euphemism, but in Japanese, Sheba is loud and proud about wanting a harem, right up to using the actual word to Pyra's face.
* TheHedonist: Her dream is a fabulous banquet with a harem of beautiful women.
* IdleRich: Floats around in a giant bathtub made of water.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: When asked if there was any possibility of her being attracted to men, Sheba says she's not ''completely'' against the idea of having a man in her harem. However, she also says that she has different, and much, much higher standards for men than women, and she hasn't yet met any man who could live up to them.
* IncompatibleOrientation: She's a LipstickLesbian, and wishes for a harem of beautiful women. That said, the female party members with an explicit sexual preference tend to be straight.
* LipstickLesbian: She constantly seeks female companionship on and off the battlefield, sees men as servants to be used rather than romantically pursued, and makes suspiciously sexual advances on just about every woman in the party. In her personal Heart-to-Heart, she wishes to hold a banquette where she lists off every last female character in the main cast as her guest list. In the Japanese script, her orientation and goals are stated outright, while in the English script her being solely attracted to women is kept mainly ambiguous but is still outright pointed out in a Heart-to-Heart with Mythra and Kora.
* MakingASplash: Has the water element, and is shown to be able to control water telekineticly. The merchant who sold her core crystal even comments about the bathtub made of water that she floats around in.
* MegatonPunch: During her sidequest once she finds the Nopon who swindled her and he makes the mistake of laughing about how she fell for his scam, [[https://i.imgur.com/mBjVSwf.gif he regrets it]] once she kicks him so hard he turns into a twinkle in the sky.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: She's almost completely human-like except for the elongated fish tail (which would make up the entire lower body of any other merfolk) behind her legs.
* PunnyName:
** Her Squad Name is "Royal Teas", which does describe her fondness of drinking tea while bathing, but it also sounds like "Royal Tease" or "royalties", both of which hint at her GoldDigger personality.
** Sheba is short for ''[[Literature/TheBible Bath]]''[[Literature/TheBible Sheba]], and guess what she spends most of her time doing?
* RichBitch: Downplayed. Almost everything she says revolves around making money or holding banquettes, but she doesn't actively look down upon the less fortunate or try to make herself the center of attention in any malicious way. She's actually quite friendly, offers to buy gifts to her female companions, and has an unshakeable sense of justice to help any female in immediate need. It's only during her final quest, "Fool's Gold" that she treats Rex, Tora, and Zeke as servants in scenes that are PlayedForLaughs.
* RoyalWe: As to emphasize her royal status, she addresses herself as more than one person.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: She has a more refined vocabulary fitting of her "royal" stature than most.
-->'''Sheba:''' We shan't know unless we try. Come, let us perambulate and look for suspicious individuals.
* SweetTooth: Really enjoys her tea time and desserts are among her favorite pouch items.

For Shulk in his youth, see [[Characters/XenobladeChronicles1Protagonists here]]. For his status as the mentor of Founder Reid, see [[Characters/XenobladeChronicles3TheFounders here]].
----
* AdaptationalBadass: In ''Xenoblade 1,'' Monado Enchant allows party members without Anti-Mechon Weapons [[spoiler: or Monados]] to damage Mechon without needing to Topple them. In ''Xenoblade 2,'' Mechon don't exist, so Enchant changes from an Art to a passive skill buffing ''the entire party's Attack at max Affinity.'' Furthermore, Vision changes from giving warning about a devastating attack, allowing the player to decide what to do about it, to a single button prompt that just ''prevents the attack from going off in the first place.'' Finally, Monado Speed goes from an Art giving a specific party member damage immunity for a short time to a clone of Mythra's Foresight ''that stacks with Mythra's Foresight if Shulk isn't engaged to Rex.''
* AdaptationalWimp:
** Monado Buster, being a single-hit Special in a game that revolves around crits, is overshadowed by Monado Unbound. Monado Purge goes from an auto-attack-charged "remove all buffs and Auras'' Art to an Art-charged "remove the awakened buff (which basically doesn't exist outside Challenge Battles) from the enemy'' Special.
** Shulk has less Art options to play with in general due to how ''Xenoblade 2'' [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness handles its Battle Arts.]]
* ArtEvolution: He looks a bit different rendered in this game's art style.
* BackgroundMusicOverride: If he is engaged to an active party member when the party is battling a Unique Monster, "You Will Know Our Names" will play instead of the normal Unique Monster battle theme.
* BadassBookworm: He enjoys literature as his Pouch Items and his favorite book is the Ardainian Arms Album. Not surprising considering Mor Ardain is quite similar to the Mechonis and [[MythologyGag Shulk's day job before wielding the Monado]] was [[TheEngineer reverse-engineering Mechon technology and weapons]].
* BashBrothers: His Level IV Special, Monado Unbound, has him act this way with his Driver, but especially Rex given that he's Shulk's default driver and both play off each other as the protagonists of the first two numbered ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' games -- even more so when you consider their relationship in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3FutureRedeemed'' where they are explicitly shown to be this trope as the leaders of the Liberators.
* BoringButPractical: For an Attacker Blade, Shulk's role is more comparable to a JackOfAllTrades, meaning that Drivers will usually have a Blade that specializes better in one of his niches (such as Mythra as a DPS Light element Blade for Rex, or Corvin as a tanky Light element Blade for Mòrag). However, regardless of moveset synergy, it's almost always a good idea to use Shulk on the player-controlled character in Challenge Mode so that Monado Purge can be used at will to dispel Elemental Awakening, rather than having to manipulate the AI into using it via a Blade Combo or Chain Attack.
* CatchPhrase: "I'm really feeling it", [[RunningGag as usual]]. If you use him as Zeke's blade, this can lead to a funny situation where they both say it one after the other.
* CanonWelding: While it's unclear whether Shulk's appearance is canon to ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' proper,[[note]]it's easy to dismiss as non-canon, but he and Rex are explicitly shown to be good friends in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3FutureRedeemed'', making it unclear whether they met in the Land of Challenge or whether they only met once their worlds fused and became Aionios,[[/note]] it ''does'' appear to be canon to ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' as Pyra and Mythra easily recognize him when they meet him in ''Smash''.
* CombatClairvoyance: Shulk's foresight mechanic from the original ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' returns. He'll see visions of the future of enemies that are about to unleash a special attack.
* DownloadableContent: He can only be unlocked by playing through Challenge Mode.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: He and Fiora are here from after the end of Xenoblade 1. [[spoiler:Which has to involve time travel and is helped by probably being non-canon as a DLC Blade, since the two games' stories absolutely must happen simultaneously]].
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: While the canonicity of Shulk meeting the Alrest crew during the events of ''[=XC2=]'' is [[LooseCanon very dodgy]] (''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' aside), one detail of his appearance ''does'' tie into the story pretty well: Shulk and Fiora can't join the team outside the Land of Challenge until the main story has been cleared. [[spoiler:The events of Chapter 10 require Shulk to be fighting Zanza ''at the same time'' in his own universe, so regardless of the Land of Challenge's canonicity, there's no risk of a ContinuitySnarl until NewGamePlus.]]
* GoodCounterpart: [[spoiler:Along with Mythra, he's one to Malos. Both Shulk and Malos wield a Monado, and also share the Monado Buster and Monado Cyclone Arts. Furthermore, Alvis, the embodiment of the Monado [[TheGhost who doesn't appear in this game]], is heavily implied to be the third Aegis born from the Ontos Core Crystal. While Shulk functions as a Blade, he isn't one biologically like Mythra and Malos are, which is where Alvis comes in.]]
* GuestFighter: From the first ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' game.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Shulk can be used freely in the Land of Challenge, but due to inter-dimensional shenanigans, he only joins the party when in that land. He can be freely unlocked for use by completing the HarderThanHard "Dino-Drama" challenge, which is only available after clearing the game (which can be transferred to a NewGamePlus).
* HeroOfAnotherStory: As the main character of the first ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' game, he's this to Rex. [[spoiler: This is actually canon, as you discover towards the end of the game]].
* IdiotHair: Has one for this game, despite being [[GeniusBruiser the furthest thing from an "idiot"]]. This got carried over into ''Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition''.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Nobody brings up the fact that Shulk looks and sounds like [[spoiler:a younger version of the Architect, whose evil half became Zanza in Shulk's own universe]]. [[GameplayAndStorySegregation This is waved off by Shulk being an optional DLC character who was never intended to play any part in the game's story anyway]] aside from [[spoiler:his voiced cameo in Chapter 10]].
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Shulk's post battle quotes with Nia and Tora have him being this about Nia's ears and Tora's age, since he doesn't completely understand Nopon or lifeforms outside of Bionis and Mechonis, and his Nopon friend Riki is 40 years old.
-->'''Shulk:''' Nia, are those your... actual ears?\
'''Nia:''' Rude much! Of course they're real. You've never seen a Gormotti before or what?\
'''Shulk:''' Oh, I'm really sorry. There aren't any... Gormotti where we come from.\
'''Shulk:''' So, this world has Nopon too? Tora, judging by your body, I guess... you're 50 or so, right?\
'''Tora:''' OUTRAGEOUS!! Tora not some dried up old geezer! Tora is youthful Nopon boy! Younger than Shulk by many much years.
* LightEmUp: He has the light element.
* LooseCanon: The only aspect of Shulk's appearance in this game acknowledged in another work is when Pyra and Mythra recognize him in their reveal trailer for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate''. Other than that, Shulk appearing in Alrest via the Alrest Linkring seems to be non-canon [[spoiler:because Chapter 10 shows that he ''cannot'' exist in Alrest during its events (unless time travel shenanigans are involved)]], while the Land of Challenge's canonicity is more nebulous since each party can only return to their own universe,[[note]]''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3FutureRedeemed'' shows that Shulk and Rex would canonically meet at some point, though it's unclear if it's through the Land of Challenge or only occurs after Aionios is formed[[/note]] which helps avoid ContinuitySnarl.
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Shulk's Vision skill provides a unique mechanic: with it, powerful enemy attacks trigger a button prompt that, if successful, negates the attack. He can also be moved freely between party members without using an Overdrive Protocol and is unaffected by Spirit Crucible Elpys.
* MightyGlacier: {{Downplayed|trope}}. Shulk has the highest auto-attack stat in the game and great defensive abilities that let his Driver survive for longer. However, he doesn't really have a way to speed up his Arts like Mythra does, preventing him from fulfilling a DPS role efficiently. His Driver's Monado animations are also slow-ish, but are twice the speed of the Shield Hammer animations that they're based on. Monado Shield, exclusive to Rex and Zeke, allows them a nice emergency defensive maneuver to patch up their weakness as {{Glass Cannon}}s.
* MovesetClone: His Monado uses the same Art animation as a Shield Hammer, but significantly sped up.
* MythologyGag:
** As mentioned, he references Riki's age, as well as the other party members in ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' including Reyn, Dunban, Sharla and Melia.
** One of the things he says before using Monado Buster is "Let the shackles be released!" referencing what Zanza said to unlock [[spoiler:the Monado II]].
** His Level 4 Special has him perform his physical arts from his home game. In order, he uses Slit Edge (a stab), Stream Edge (a wide swing), Air Slash (an upwards jumping slash), and Back Slash (a downwards vertical slice).
** The way his Visions work is that you have to press a button press to change the future, similarly to the [[spoiler:first two fights against Zanza]].
** His post-battle conversation with Mythra suggests that both of them know that [[spoiler:Alvis, and the Monado he embodies, is the third Aegis]].
* NoSell: How his CombatClairvoyance ability was implemented. With a simple button press at the right time, you can completely ignore any devastating attack if you have him in the party. It takes some time to recharge afterward.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Just like KOS-MOS, Shulk becomes this if engaged on Rex because of his access to Mythra, who shares a role and element with Shulk and whose skills and Arts are a better fit for Rex; in fact, Foresight ''stacks'' with Monado Speed if both are out at the same time, making Shulk a better choice on a different Driver (usually Mòrag or Zeke). If playing as Rex, the only real reason to use Shulk would be for manual control over Monado Purge (and, to a lesser extent, Monado Shield as an emergency option).
* PreviousPlayerCharacterCameo: As the protagonist of the first ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' game.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Aside from the Land of Challenge, [[spoiler: he has a brief voiced cameo in Chapter 10 from his own universe/timeline, which is meant as a WhamLine demonstrating that Bionis/Mechonis and Alrest coexist in different universes]].
* StatusBuffDispel: Several enemies in Challenge Mode will become awakened when hit with a Blade Combo finisher, granting them a damage buff, faster Art cooldowns, and resistance to further Blade Combos. Shulk's level 1 special Monado Purge removes this status from an enemy.
* SupportPartyMember: Just like in his home game, even though he has the highest offensive stats in the game, his best features are his supporting abilities like Enchant, Purge, and Vision.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He seems to have gotten over his dislike of vegetables from his home game, as they're now one of his favorite categories of Pouch Items, particularly Addam's Supercakes.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: When interacting with Shulk, Mythra is the only character to specifically imply that [[spoiler:Shulk's Monado is the third Aegis]], even after reaching the point in the story [[spoiler:where Ontos is revealed and implied to be Alvis]].
* WolverinePublicity: Particularly since ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' made him the most famous ''Xeno'' character, and uninitiated players would question why the sequel to Shulk's game doesn't actually have him in it. In fact, when Pyra and Mythra were announced as a dual fighter for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'', the end of the trailer played up the fact that they recognize Shulk despite it being [[LooseCanon dubiously canon at best]].

----

* AdaptationalHeroism: T-elos was an antagonist in [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} her home series]], but as ruthless as she still is in this game, her desire to destroy KOS-MOS doesn't seem to be present (although she teamed up with KOS-MOS in crossover games, those were strictly EnemyMine or TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou situations), but post-battle banter between the two does call back a bit of their past rivalry. She also decides that she ''might'' try to relax with everyone after everyone stupid enough to try to kill Rex's group is dead.
-->'''T-elos:''' You should just surrender and become a part of me, KOS-MOS.\
'''KOS-MOS:''' Request denied.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: She has no qualms in belittling friends and foes alike while expressing her superiority, going as far as to remark that there's no need for Foresight upon switching in for Mythra if Rex has her equipped.
* BadassBookworm: One of T-elos's favorite Pouch Item types is literature with Salvaging Made Easy being one of her favorite items.
* BloodKnight: She is significantly more aggressive and violent than most Blades besides from when Wulfric is in battle and Zenobia.
* CastingAShadow: Has the darkness element to oppose KOS-MOS's [[LightEmUp light]] element.
* CleavageWindow: Most of the time it's closed, but when using her level 4 special it opens briefly.
* CombatStilettos: Like KOS-MOS, T-elos's footwear has pronounced high heels. The few moments she's seen using her feet include the kick at the end of her Lv. 1 Special and stomping on Indoline Monks' chests during her quest.
* CurbstompBattle: Tends to dish these out a few times such as quickly taking out Gargoyle Artifices in her intro as well as defeating the Indoline Monks. She took out a group of them using her [[SphereOfDestruction U-TENERITAS]] then swiftly took down the [[SoleSurvivor lone monk]] who [[SuicidalOverconfidence tried to attack T-elos]] despite witnessing her defeating the aforementioned monks.
* DarkActionGirl: A rare heroic example, in this case.
* DarkIsNotEvil: As merciless and ruthless as she can be on the battlefield, going as far to even stomp on vulnerable Indoline Monks during her personal quest, she is an arrogant BloodKnight at worst. This T-Elos is also much less of a violent sociopath than she tends to be in her crossover appearances before this game like ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone'', its sequel, and ''VideoGame/EndlessFrontier''.
* DownloadableContent: She was added to the game for free in the 1.40 update. However, she can only be awakened after beating the story.
* {{Foil}}: Appropriately to KOS-MOS, they have opposite elements and personalities, with T-elos more expressive and aggressive than [[TheStoic KOS-MOS]]. Also, T-elos is a melee fighter as apposed to KOS-MOS's long range combat. Also their level 4 specials are opposite in how they are carried out; T-elos U-Teneritas is a concentrated attack while KOS-MOS' X-Buster fires a barrage of lasers. Even their Blade Quests contrast, T-elos' dealing with Amalthus loyalist remnants and KOS-MOS' dealing with leftover Blade Bots, both being main story enemies first faced during late game battles at the World Tree.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: Is a bit sadistic in story scenes where she readily steps on helpless foes, and this side of her is shown in her Affinity Chart requiring the player characters to go through a number of indignities to earn her favor, such as falling off of high places and jumping 6,000 times. T-elos' remarks in relation to these chart nodes being filled out indicate she spends some time simply observing the player characters do these things and mocking them over it.
* GuestFighter: Like KOS-MOS before her, she comes from the Xenosaga series.
* HiddenDepths: Despite her aggressive and impatient personality, her favorite item categories are [[BadassBookworm books]] and musical instruments, which would usually signify a level of culture. Moreover, T-elos is shown to have taken up some interest in salvaging due to her having the Salvaging Mastery field skill and her favorite book being ''Salvaging Made Easy''.
* IrrationalHatred: KOS-MOS and T-elos despise each other but don't seem to understand why. They end up deciding it's because of their personality differences, but their driver thinks it's probably because they're [[TooMuchAlike too much alike]] under the surface.
* IWorkAlone: Downplayed as she is aware of her dependence as a Blade and is willing to fight alongside her Driver and even KOS-MOS due to having aligned goals, as mentioned at the end of her quest. But it's still a given with T-elos's lines from her affinity tree showing off her arrogance. At the end of her blade quest, she tells her driver that she might give being friendly with the party a try once the journey is over.
* KickChick: She incorporates a kick at the end of her Lv. 1 Special, ECHIDNA.
* MythologyGag:
** Her Awakening cutscene is similar to her introduction in ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} Episode III'' to how she enters as well as how she destroys the Gargoyle Artifices whom [[DogPileOfDoom dogpiled]] her similar to what the Gnosis did against her.
** T-elos's post-battle banter with KOS-MOS references T-elos [[spoiler:having Mary Magdalene's original body]] while KOS-MOS [[spoiler:has Mary's soul]]. Later, T-elos reveals she only hates KOS-MOS because she's a stick in the mud that can't enjoy a good brawl, rather than any of the motivations that drove her in Xenosaga III.
* RevolversAreJustBetter: In addition to her Scythe she carries a revolver which she uses during one of her specials.
* TheRival: To KOS-MOS, carrying their dynamic from their home series and to the point where T-elos has a unique quote upon Blade Switching in while KOS-MOS is active, though it isn't as hostile is one would expect from her.
* SinisterScythe: Although it is clasified as a great axe her weapon appears as a scythe and does not change appearance when using core chips.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: T-elos is portrayed to wear glasses, her favorite Pouch Item catergory is literature along with one of her favorite item is a literature type, Salvaging Made Easy.
* SphereOfDestruction: Her Phase Transfer Cannon called U-TENERITAS which manifests as a globe of red energy that requires several seconds to build up before being projected at her opponent. Once a target is struck by this weapon T-elos activates its detonation by pressing the violet panel that resides in her helmet over her forehead.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: During the end of T-elos' quest, Lingering Resentment, if KOS-MOS is in the party upon completion of the quest, she will chastise T-elos for her aggression and the two agree that they will never see eye to eye.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A. T-elos usually belittles her Driver and often tells them to hurry up so she can continue fighting. She does understand that she is tied to her Driver and nevertheless is willing to offer her aid in battle.
** T-elos can be interpreted to be this towards Rex as her final line upon unlocking her Salvaging Mastery's last node has her somewhat reluctantly announce to help out with this "little hobby." This is still applicable to any Driver she has, but Rex is the only Driver out of the team who does the salvaging. She also decides at the end of her blade quest that once Rex's journey is over, she might give being friendly a shot since all the people dumb enough to attack them will be taken care of by then.

* EyepatchOfPower: She and Praxis sport eyepatches on opposite eyes, and they were both powerful thieves making lives miserable for Alrest at the behest of their Driver before their defeat and reincarnation.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Praxis, to the point that the old Theory wanted Praxis to rejoin the Core Crystal hunters once Praxis is reawakened by the heroes, but [[spoiler:kills off her own Driver so that Rex and the others would have her Core Crystal instead]]. Upon her reawakening to the side of good, Theory is distant from everyone, but does warm back up to Praxis eventually due to Praxis promising to remember the friendship they were meant to have, and they come to be like sisters just as before.
* HiddenDepths: Despite her stoic demeanor, she has an affinity for cute things. This may also explain why she has the Nopon Wisdom skill.
* HornedHumanoid: She has a long yet thin horn jutting out of her forehead that seem to be made of ice.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Theory wants Praxis back so much that she tries to make her remember her old life, and eventually leads Praxis' new Driver into a fight with her Driver, as her Driver convinced her that if she kills Praxis' Driver then he can reawaken Praxis and she and Theory can be together like before. [[spoiler:Theory doesn't really want to go this far though, and she reaches her breaking point when her Driver orders her to kill Praxis, opting instead for suicide of her current self by killing her own Driver.]]
* PrimAndProperBun: Her hair is worn in a bun, complimenting Praxis's double buns.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: After being reawakened by the heroes as a new Blade, Theory has a bit of a distant icy demeanor, befitting an ice-element Blade. She's even reluctant to be close to Praxis despite the fact that they were a team previously as the Core Crystal Hunters. However, she does warm up to Praxis and the others upon doing their combined side quest and even calls her "Big Sis" at times.
* ThemeNaming: Her name forms a thematic pair with Praxis (Latin for "practice").
* TheUnsmile: At the beginning of "Theory and Praxis", Pandoria tries to get Theory to smile more by having her copy her own smile. Theory's attempt at it looks more like a grimace, with Nia wisely noting it's best if she waits for it to come naturally.
* VocalDissonance: For one of the smallest Blades out there, she has a surprisingly deep voice.
* WhenSheSmiles: As noted at the end of her and Praxis's shared sidequest "Theory and Praxis", her being able to smile naturally is a very good look for her.

* ActionPet: Her polar bear, Beary, battles alongside her.
* BearyFriendly: {{Pun}} aside, Ursula's polar bear is nice and quiet like her, but also does most of the fighting with his claws. In fact, Ursula's Driver wields Beary's claws as Knuckle Gloves.
* MagikarpPower: Filling out her affinity chart requires one to send her on an absurd amount of mercenary missions. However, this leads to her filling out most of her chart on her own. She also learns great healing skills, such as healing good chunks of each party member's HP just by switching in.
* MundaneUtility: Thanks to the base length of her merc missions being only 10 minutes, they happen to be the most efficient way of filling out other Blades' affinity charts.
* MythologyGag: At the end of a battle, Ursula might sing a few notes of a tune she came up with, which sounds like it came from ''[[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 Engage the Enemy]]''. Rex picks up on it and hums it himself.
* PunnyName: Her name is Ursa[[labelnote:*]]''Ursa'' is Latin for Bear[[/labelnote]]-la.
* SecurityBlanket: Beary's a living example, as Ursula is almost always seen holding on to him. Whenever she is stressed out, she tends to grip him even harder.

----

* BloodKnight: Her battle quotes indicate this, albeit not nearly to the extent of Zenobia.
* BerserkButton: Judging someone by their appearance, brought up if she's used in one DLC quest, which is quite fitting for her as a goth with a personality and interests that would be more expected from a motherly older woman. It's actually a big insecurity of hers, which is why she puts on the dark and gloomy act and refuses to admit that she's a NiceGirl.
** She hates people that run from responsibility and don't attempt to change their lives with their own effort. She's also annoyed by people that don't respect the freedom and choices of others. It turns out Vale's also pretty fond of kids, so the Nopon Cult brainwashing and attempting to sacrifice the little girl she's trying to rescue ends up pressing every single button she has.
* {{Chuunibyou}}: Downplayed compared to some examples, but she clearly enjoys playing up this aspect of herself when it suits her. Notably, in her Heart to Heart, her trust will go up more if her Driver takes the option that allows her to exposit some blatantly untrue things about herself (especially since Poppi and Tora take her seriously). She'll remark that she's a nightstalker, that she loses strength in sunlight, she disappears, and that there is something she calls a "Geist Chevalier" inside her that will run riot if she isn't allowed to sleep as much as she wants. The Heart to Heart still ends with the Driver pointing out it's nonsense and Vale won't argue further, only noting it was worth a try.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She may be a darkness-element Blade with the demeanor of a rebellious and indifferent teenager, but Vale does value the bonds she shares with her Driver and friends.
* DeadpanSnarker: Very sarcastic and acerbic, but she means well.
* {{Goth}}: Very much so. With that said, while she likes to talk a lot about darkness and witches and similar topics, she draws the line at actual meddling with the forces of evil. Her sidequest deals with getting rid of a Nopon ''satanic cult'' attempting to summon demons into this world.
* HiddenDepths: During her mission, "Ties that Bind," Vale demonstrates a surprising amount of maturity, actually helping a mother and her rebellious teenage daughter reconcile, in stark contrast to her usual behavior, where she acts like a rebellious teenager herself. At the end of the quest, Nia says a line that heavily implies that Vale would be a good mother, something she is happy to hear. She also manages to scare an unruly daughter into behaving long enough to get an idea of what kind of hat she wants, a exchange that comes off as an older woman lecturing an misbehaving child. She also engages in all night gossip sessions with Mythra and the other girls, of which the content is fairly average, but would much rather everyone believe she's out doing dark rituals instead.
** The main point of her Blade quest is that she believes that all people should value personal freedom more than anything, as long as one doesn't run from responsibility and works for what they want (which the Nopon cult is doing by throwing all of their problems at a dark god and hoping it will magically solve them). Baiting a vulnerable child into that mindset pisses her off even more, pushing all of her buttons and making her more desperate during her quest to the point where her {{Chuunibyou}} act is toned down some during the last half of the quest.
* NotAMorningPerson: It takes Pyra's threatening to reveal Vale's secrets to the party to get her to wake up in the morning.
* NotTheIntendedUse: Her summoning and special animations have her use her lance as a mace rather than actually using it as a lance.
* OrgasmicCombat: Some of her moans in combat make no attempt to be subtle, [[TheImmodestOrgasm and are VERY loud]].
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Outside of battles, she specializes in weaving textiles. She can create her own textiles after speaking to the old woman in charge of the textile store in Fonsett Village. She can also be used for one of the DLC quest to make a hat, getting pissed that the girl she's talking to assumes she can only make scary witch clothes instead of something more traditionally girly in the process. Her love for it is another part of her personality that would normally be more expected from someone much older.
* {{Tsundere}}: She absolutely does not want anyone knowing that she cares about them or that she isn't some dark witch of the night that definitely does not stay up talking desserts and boys with Mythra, or that weaving is fun for her. The final ranks of her affinity chart and blade quest have her finally relax on this, with her admitting she wants to live alongside her driver that she cares so much for.
* WhenSheSmiles: One of the bigger rewards of finishing her personal quest is getting to see Vale be more open and give a genuine smile to the party.

----
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She isn't really.... all there, for the most part. She's often easily distracted, absent minded, and constantly hungry. And this is all on top of her mild obsession with her "dumplings".
* CombatMedic: While she is a HLR blade, one of her passive skill is an increase in Critical Hit, which is really rare passive skill.
* DubNameChange: Not just her, but her signature dish was renamed as well. Her specialty is making dumplings. That said, the "dumplings" are obviously Onigiri[=/=]Rice Balls, despite the existence of Fruity Rice Balls in the English translation (which are even required and referred to as such during her initial quest). Well, at least they weren't called [[Anime/PokemonTheOriginalSeries Jelly Doughnuts]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her somewhat distracted, airheaded nature is seen right from when the party first meets her, wherein she states she is a Blade despite the party having just a moment ago verbally noted she is a Blade (not to mention how it'd be hard to confuse her for a human). It's even lampshaded that the party just said she is a Blade.
* MeaningfulName: For only her original Japanese name. ''Omusubi'' is another name for her trademark onigiri. When the party first discovers her cooking specialty, no one is surprised.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Her face has very noticeably different proportions, with a large nose and broad eyes, in contrast to the {{Animesque}}-style the rest of the characters use. Kia Asamiya was after all mostly active during the late 80's/early 90's (see ''Manga/SilentMobius'' for instance) and his style still reflects this.
* ParentalSubstitute: After Mabon's wife passed away, she took on the role of being his kids' surrogate mother. Apparently, she was a great mother.
* TeamMom: She takes on this role upon joining the team. Even in Merc missions she tells the team that they have only 300G each for snacks.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: She loves Fruity Rice Balls. Appropriately, her "dumplings" (actually Rice Balls) are her only, and best, dish.

* BadassBookworm: One of his favorite items types is literature.
* BerserkButton: Gets easily frustrated when people misunderstand him, which ends up just hurting his image more.
* TheBerserker: His fighting style involves a lot of wild swings from his lance and a lot of button mashing ActionCommands.
* ChestBlaster: His Level 2 Special which involves him firing a beam of earth energy from his chest.
* DefeatMeansPlayable: He was the Blade of the Elder Arachno who attacked the party in Uraya, but after the latter's defeat, the party receives Wulfric's Core Crystal, effectively recruiting him.
* FaceOfAThug: He's a shy, super nice guy who happens to be one of the most monstrous-looking Blades in the game. He's trying to help people to improve his rep, but it's not working all too well when most think he's a monster.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Zenobia. Both are incredibly strong attacking blades with excellent utility inside and outside of battle. Both are masters of the SuperStrength skill. But where Zenobia is a BloodKnight, Wulfric is a GentleGiant. Zenobia is also rather heavy on {{Fanservice}} where Wulfric has the FaceOfAThug. And where Zenobia thinks ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption, Wulfric prefers ToWinWithoutFighting by talking things out.
** To Electra. Both are Blades that fall under Compassion, both are blades that just want to be helpful and friendly, and both have trouble helping others due to circumstances initally beyond their control. While Electa's PowerIncontinence is the source or her trouble, Wulfric's issue is that he has the FaceOfAThug. Electra is one of the best defensive blades, where Wulfric is one of the best Offensive Blades, and even their elements are opposite.
* GentleGiant: Played with; off the battlefield, he is very much this trope, and is obviously uncomfortable with how people fear him just for his brutish looks. On the battlefield, however, he is just as vicious as his appearance suggests.
* GlassCannon: He has extremely high offensive power with strong Specials but weak defenses.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: One of his goals so he can have a better reputation.
-->'''Wulfric''': "One day, I will make friends with everyone!"
* MundaneUtility: All his utility skills are commonly used, and having the best scores possible in them makes him perfect for many field actions.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Is able to understand the speech of monsters. This allows him to solve the Gogol issue in his sidequest diplomatically. He was also formerly the Blade of the Elder Arachno in Uraya before Rex and his friends felled the creature.
* SuperStrength: He and Zenobia (and, with DLC, Poppibuster) are the only Blades to get five points in superstrength. Every other Blade that has this field skill gets three. He also has excellent combat abilities, increasing damage and critical damage by flat amounts, and wailing on toppled enemies.
* TalkingYourWayOut: He prefers to avoid combat by talking things out.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: She doesn't actively boast about her power, but still makes sure everyone else knows about it through her desire to fight stronger opponents. However, Zenobia does claim that her axe is stronger than [[InfinityPlusOneSword KOS-MOS's]] firepower if both Blades are under the same Driver and the Driver switches to Zenobia during a fight.
-->'''Zenobia:''' [[BadassBoast "My axe beats KOS-MOS's firepower any day!"]]
* BadassArmfold: Her default pose, as shown in her artwork. She maintains her armfold almost all the time (in battle, out of battle, and even while swimming) as to emphasize her confidence.
* BadassBookworm: One of her favorite item types is literature.
* BloodKnight: She delights in battling strong enemies; all of her Affinity Chart requirements pertain to defeating Unique Monsters, and her personal Quest involves finding and unleashing a SealedEvilInACan just so that she can kick its ass.
* ChallengeSeeker: Oh yes. Most of her fights [[VictoryIsBoring she just finds underwhelming]], hence her endless quest to find actual rivals worthy of her. In gameplay all of her passive skills boost her power the more challenging the battle is (one activates when fighting bosses and Unique Monsters, one activates against higher-level enemies, and the last one increases the more enemies are in the current battle).
* CuteLittleFangs: Has a tiny protruding fang like Electra's, though hers is meant to appear wild more than childish.
* {{Determinator}}: Her Battle Skills work best when she is facing powerful enemies or overwhelming numbers.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Her sidequest is based on this, with you having to defeat a SealedEvilInACan. When she has to put some effort in due to its HealingFactor, she [[IAmNotLeftHanded reveals that she's been holding back the entire time]], before giving it a OneHitKill.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Wulfric.
They are both based on Shinto Gods (she is the Fujin to Electra's Raijin), have CuteLittleFangs and have power so absurd, they try to restrict themselves. While Electra tries to restrict her power because she thinks she's a danger to others and [[PowerIncontinence can't control it at first]], Zenobia is in full control of her strength and restricts herself to savor her battles.
** She is also this to Herald. Both are incredibly strong and try to hide their power for certain reasons (Herald restricts her power so she doesn't destroy her allies in a rampage and Zenobia restricts her power to [[VictoryIsBoring savor fights]]). Herald is also an Ether Cannon user that attacks from far away, where as Zenobia is a Greataxe user that gets close to the enemy. Herald, Zenobia and Electra all share a DLC Blade quest together.
* HotBlooded: Very much so, considering her desire to fight strong opponents at any moment.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: When faced with what she finally considers a decent challenge (the aforementioned SealedEvilInACan, a giant monster with an absurdly strong HealingFactor), she decides to use her full power for one moment... and promptly [[ATwinkleInTheSky punts it into the stratosphere]]. Apparently going all out just feels ''good'' but it ends fights too quickly for her.
* InfinityMinusOneSword: While quite a rare Blade, she's not quite as hard to get as other Blades such as KOS-MOS, while having absurdly high damage output that can get up to an 220% increase against Unique Monsters and Higher Level Enemies with no drawbacks and having only 1 enemy is enough to give a 40% increase to her final battle skill, and a lot of the post-game has you deal with those types of enemies in the game. Her damage output outclasses the majority of Blades in the game and is top 5, above that of KOS-MOS and Mythra. The reason why she's not an InfinityPlusOneSword is mostly because she's fallen to some slight PowerCreep by the DLC Blades and isn't always useful because of that.
* InvincibleHero: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] as Zenobia is so strong that no [[BossInMooksClothing Unique Monster]] is a worthy opponent to her, causing her to be a BloodKnight due to being bored all the time. Even when she does fight the Thanatobeast Andrez (A monster with a healing ability so strong that it had to be sealed away even by some of the strongest Blades of the time), it is revealed that she was still holding back and gives it a OneHitKill, meaning she was just "enjoying" the fight for 5 minutes. It's implied her destructive capabilities could rival Mythra, who was capable of destroying a continent in the Aegis War, (though its hard to judge given how differently their powers work, Zenobia relying mostly on physical attacks and Mythra making use of energy ones and foresight, plus we never see her do anything near the scale of the destruction Mythra can cause).
* MundaneUtility: All her utility skills are commonly used, and having the best scores possible in them makes her perfect for many field actions.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She has a fairly slight physique for a blade whose entire focus is incredible physical power.
* NamedAfterSomeoneFamous: Her design is based off Fujin, the Shinto God of Wind.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: When Zenobia attempts to challenge Mythra in a duel in Argentum, the party decides that's not a good idea.
* PhysicalGoddess: Not only is she, design-wise, based off [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuujin Fujin]], she's so incredibly powerful that, when she decides to go all out, the target of her full power instantly [[ATwinkleInTheSky pulls a Team Rocket]].
* PowerFloats: Floats slightly above the ground while in battle.
* TheRival: Considers herself as one to Mythra and wants to fight her if her Heart-to-Heart is any indication, but knows that she's no match against an Aegis, at least for the time being (she considers herself to still be in training).
* SuperStrength: She and Wulfric are the only non-DLC Blades to get five points in superstrength. Every other Blade that has this field skill gets three. She also has some of the highest damage output of any blade in the entire game besides [[spoiler:Zeke's Eye of Shining Justice ability]], Fiora, Elma and Poppi QTπ where with enough set up, is easily able to do more damage than what the game counts as (999,999) with Blade Specials.
* UnskilledButStrong: Unquestionably the strongest Blade in terms of raw physical power, but she's well aware that challenging people like Jin or Mythra would take more than pure strength. Too bad her plan to fix that is to get even stronger.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: She claims that it's easier to fight without clothing. The opaque white stripes decorating her body are just about the only thing keeping her from being totally naked.
* WillfullyWeak: As much as she wants to go all out, she limits herself because, otherwise, fighting wouldn't be fun.
* WorldsStrongestWoman: She is believed to be the strongest Blade in the game in terms of SuperStrength, and the only ones known that can actually beat her in a all out fight rely on either energy attacks from Artifices and special abilities like Foresight (Mythra) or have absurd speed (Jin).
