!!Free Mutants

The Free Mutants are a global network of mutant resistance founded by Lucas Bishop in 2018 in response to increased attacks on mutants by Trask Industries and their Sentinels, machines created explicitly for the purpose of hunting down and killing mutants.

They later allied themselves with the remaining X-Men. By 2023, their membership had dwindled down to only a handful of members, only managing to "survive" Sentinel attacks thanks to Kitty Pryde sending Bishop's mind briefly into the past and warn the Free Mutants of the incoming attack early enough for there to be enough time to escape.

[[folder:In General]]
* BadassCrew: They manage to survive unsupported in a post-apocalyptic world for God knows how long before the events of the film. If they had not got their trump card Shadowcat busy with Charles Xavier's plan to change the timeline, they would have kept going on more or less indefinitely.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Both in a conventional and a meta way. For the former, they are the last great mutant resistance cell, but we don't get to see their adventures before the X-Men meet them. For the latter, none of these characters had a part in the ''ComicBook/DaysOfFuturePast'' storyline in the comic books; only Bishop was included in the adaptation of said arc in the 1992 ''WesternAnimation/XMenTheAnimatedSeries'', and it was because the character had recently debuted in the comics and was in the peak of his popularity (also because, being Bishop a badass from a BadFuture and ''Days'' an arc about a BadFuture, it seemed intuitive to mix them together).
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: A varied group of mutants, some of them former X-Men and some free rogues, who struggle to survive.

!!!'''Played by:''' Creator/OmarSy
!!!'''Voiced By''': Salvador Reyes (Latin-American Spanish)
!!!'''Film Appearances''': ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''

A large and powerful mutant with energy absorption and redirection powers and founder of the underground "Free Mutants" movement.

For the original comic book version of Bishop, see [[Characters/XMen90sMembers here]].
----
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: His background from the comics is AdaptedOut of the film and changed to a presumably generic one. If he's still a time-travelling mutant cop stuck in current time, it is never mentioned.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: This version of Bishop seems to be a stoic and collected individual, very different from his HotBlooded and eventually AxCrazy comic book self. He also talks very little, while Bishop used to be both talky and hammy.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the comics, exploding after getting overloaded with energy does knock Bishop out, but it doesn't kill him (or at least, it's implied it would take an ungodly amount of energy; Bishop has absorbed a proportional excess of energy from superbeings like ComicBook/{{Onslaught}} and survived to tell it). In the film, however, the explosion vaporizes him. Also, all it takes to overload him is the combined laser of three Sentinels, which, while undoubtedly powerful, it is unlikely it comes near reaching the mentioned extent from the comics.
* AgeLift: Technically, his comic counterpart is still yet to be born, despite Blink, Warpath, and Sunspot being around.
* BadassCape: A nice red one.
* {{BFG}}: He wields one which he charges with his powers. On closer inspection, it appears to be ''connected to his circulatory system''.
* DreadlockWarrior: An extremely impressive and long variety.
* EnergyAbsorption: His mutant ability allows him to absorb any form of energy and redirect it, which he uses to charge his gun.
* AFatherToHisMen: In ''The Rogue Cut'', Bishop is [[WhatTheHellHero less than impressed]] with the plan, pointing out it might {{Retgone}} everyone born after the war began, and that if he and his people are to get behind it, they must vote.
* FlatCharacter: Given the story is focused on erasing the Sentinels from existence, as a future mutant he gets more battle scenes than characterization.
* MarkOfShame: An "M" for Mutant above his eyebrow.
* MinorMajorCharacter: He is the founder of the Free Mutants, which means he was the main lead figure of the mutant race in the events previous to the film (not counting on Xavier and his school, who were apparently limited to United States territoriy while the Free Mutants were a global network). Still, he has barely any lines and most of his role is being cannon fodder to the Sentinels.
* PhlebotinumOverload: In one iteration of reality, he blows up after absorbing too much energy from three Sentinels' beams.
* PopGoesTheHuman: [[spoiler: Explodes when he absorbs too much energy during the climax.]]
* RaceLift: Australian aborigin in the comics, but played by a French Senegalese/Mauritnian actor here.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: A RedIsHeroic case. His eyes turn red when he is fully charged.
* ScaryBlackMan: Subverted. He is a big, black guy with a nasty look and wielding a large gun, but in [[CrapsackWorld the place and time he lives in]] it takes much more than just that to be a force to fear.
* SuperheroPackingHeat: He fights with a large gun, although it is directly powered by his mutant power.
* TakingYouWithMe: Implied when reaching critical mass, as he rises to his feet, reaches outward, and directs his explosion towards the three Sentinels that 'killed' him.
* VolcanicVeins: When using his mutant ability.

!!!'''Voiced By''': Betzabe Jara (Latin-American Spanish)

A young mutant with teleportation powers; she's able to generate a series of connected portals that anyone can pass through.
----
* ActionGirl: Her powers make her extremely effective in fighting the Sentinels, both in taking them out herself and assisting the others in fighting them.
* TheArtifact: In the comics, she gets her name from the sound made when she teleports, a loud "bloink". The portals she creates in the film don't make that noise, but she's still called Blink.
%%* BadassAdorable
* BraidsOfAction: She wears her hair in a long fishtail braid (see image).
* CombatStilettos: Justified, somewhat, in that her powers give her mobility enough without being able to run. But still strange in that she seems to live in three-inch heels for no clear reason; that must be painful, powers or no powers.
* EmeraldPower: She has an eye-only example (a kinda realistic version of [[http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090310202912/marveldatabase/images/thumb/0/06/Clarice_Ferguson_%28Earth-295%29.png/250px-Clarice_Ferguson_%28Earth-295%29.png her comics counterpart's]] [[MonochromaticEyes fully-green eyes]] - the shade is still unusual, and [[PowerGlows her eyes glow]]).
* FacialMarkings: Has tattoos around her eyes.
* FlatCharacter: Given the story is focused on erasing the Sentinels from existence, as a future mutant she gets more battle scenes than characterization.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Twice by Sentinels, thanks to the ResetButton. She got it three times in succession the second time.]]
* IWillFightSomeMoreForever: In the ''Rogue Cut'', at the beginning she suggests rather than risking their lives in the time-travel scheme they keep fighting, even though it's quite obvious there's no point. That said, she still agrees to the plan, and since [[spoiler:Iceman dies earlier in that version, she's the last Mutant to go down]].
* PointyEars: Although why the ability to create portals would also give her pointy ears isn't known. It could be just a peculiar side-effect of having Teleport Spam abilities since Nightcrawler and Azazel also have them.
* PortalCut: She cuts off a Sentinel's arm by this way, which makes her the only Free Mutant who manages to do important damage to one of the Sentinels in that battle. However, it seems that she can't deliberately use this power, as it only happens by pure accident [[spoiler:when she is killed through one of her portals.]]
* RaceLift: Blink is played by Chinese actress Fan Bingbing in ''Days of Future Past''.
%%* RoseHairedSweetie
* SameLanguageDub: All of her lines are dubbed by an uncredited actress. This may be due to Fan Bingbing possibly having difficulty with English.
* SkywardScream: She lets out a small cry towards the heavens after [[spoiler:being stabbed by three Sentinels.]]
* TeleportationWithDrawbacks: If she's not careful, Blink can leave portals open which her opponents can use to attack her from far away.
* TeleportSpam: Her main tactic in fight scenes in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''. Opening portals in the paths of projectiles, BeamSpam, and even blades to make Sentinels injure each other or themselves.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Can create portals, which she uses rather liberally. Tellingly, she was the last frontline defender to die in the final battle, and the Sentinels were only able to beat her through sheer numbers.

!!!'''Voiced By''': Arturo CataƱo (Latin-American Spanish)
!!!'''Film Appearances''': ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast''

A young mutant with greatly enhanced senses. He acts as the group's scout, warning of coming Sentinels.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the comics, he is insanely strong, agile and durable, so much that he can send the much bigger comic book Sentinels tumbling down with just a clap. In the film, aside from his super senses, his physical skills just amount to those of a well trained human.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Gets his goddamn ''[[FacialHorror face burned off]]''. ''Slowly''. It's easily the most brutal Sentinel-related death.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: At least when compared with other Free Mutants members, who all have mutations that have practical combat applications. His mutation is mostly used for support and he fights with melee weapons.
* PermaShave: He has very little facial hair despite living in a post-apocalyptic world where mutants are being hunted down by Sentinels.
* SuperSenses: His main mutant ability, which is why he is the team's scout.
* ThisMeansWarPaint: He puts on black paint around his eyes.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: In a fight, he tends to use his knives. Unlike the comics, they're not made of vibranium, and therefore don't really do anything to the Sentinels. Not that this stops him leaping at them and trying to stab them in any way.

A young mutant with fire powers.

-> For tropes applying to Sunspot in the new timeline established by ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', see the [[Characters/XMenFilmSeriesNewMutants New Mutants]] page.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: His comic version was mainly known for super strength and enhanced durability; he only gained flight, self combustion, and flame projection through heavy experimentation. Here, judging by his official background or lack thereof, they all seem to be his natural abilities.
* AnArmAndALeg: Gets his arm chopped off in the final battle. He lost pretty quickly after that.
* {{Expy}}: This portrayal of Sunspot resembles more the [[ComicBook/FantasticFour Human Torch]] than his own comic book counterpart.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: Speared by a Sentinel using Deathstrike-type talons during the climax.]]
* PermaStubble: He sports a 5 o'clock shadow.
* PlayingWithFire: His mutant ability.
* RaceLift: Afro-Brazilian in the comics, but is played by a white Mexican here.
