The son of famed Imperial fighter ace Baron Soonter Fel, Jag is an excellent pilot in his own right, and is sent along with his squadron by the Chiss to fight alongside the New Republic against the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, during which he falls in love with Jaina Solo. However, their relationship had various ups-and-downs due to the events of the [[Literature/DarkNestTrilogy Swarm War]] and the [[Literature/LegacyOfTheForce Second Galactic Civil War]], as well as Jag being forced into becoming the Head of Sate for the Imperial Remnant. They finally married after [[Literature/FateOfTheJedi Abeloth's]] defeat and Jag's resignation from the Head of State office after manipulating Vitor Reige into the position. Despite this, he eventually becomes the first Emperor of the Fel line.
----
* AcePilot: Not quite as good as Wedge or his father, but very, ''very'' good.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Scars (including his skunk stripe, in this case) aren't genetically passed down, but his descendants naturally have skunk stripes. Of course, they could simply have artificially adopted it as a sort of family tradition.
* BadassNormal: Doesn't have Force powers, but Luke explicitly calls him one of the Order's best commando fighters and tacticians.
* TheChessmaster: He has to become one to deal with the Moffs after becoming Head of State for the Imperial Remnant, and does it quite well.
* ColonelBadass: His rank in the Chiss navy, which he had to work extra hard to get since he was a human.
* CultureClash: Due to being a human raised Chiss-style, he's got a few issues on first meeting with the New Republic, such as having no regard for politicians, and a massive dose of stoicism.
* DeadGuyJunior: Named after Jagged Antilles, his mother's father.
* DeadpanSnarker: More or less able to keep up with Jaina in this regard.
-->'''Jag:''' I hereby agree to take custody of you, [[spoiler:Tahiri Veila]]. You will obey my orders to the letter, and not go [[LeeroyJenkins haring off]] [[TakeThat as if your last name were Solo]].
* DefrostingIceKing: Thanks to Jaina.
* ForegoneConclusion: He will become Emperor and found the Fel Dynasty at some point, according to ''ComicBook/{{Legacy}}''.
* FounderOfTheKingdom
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has one going down his forehead to his right eye, giving him a skunk stripe in his hair. [[ArtisticLicenseBiology Which somehow gets passed down to his descendants]].
* HeroOfAnotherStory: On his introduction, it's made clear despite his age he and the Fel family have been ''busy'' out in the Unknown Regions dealing with threats no-one else has heard a peep of.
* ImprobableAge: Very young to be leading a squadron when he first shows up, but he dismisses criticism he got it through nepotism because the Chiss don't ''do'' that.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Partly because of cultural disparity, having been raised in Chiss territory, where they have different views on things like childhood, but also because of a mix of youth and possibly just a case of general cluelessness.
* LoopholeAbuse: Not above using this, especially while running the Empire.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Four brothers and a sister. Not all of them are alive.
* MistakenForRacist: His first meeting with New Republic dignitaries gets off to a poor start when he brushes right past Borsk and his fellow Senators, who immediately assume he's another speciest, power-hungry Imp, and seems legitimately confused when Wedge points out he's caused a diplomatic cluster-fluck, because they were just ''politicians''. He has to point out he had already greeted Kre'fey, who's just as alien as his cousin Borsk, without problem.
* NoodleIncident: At some point, he becomes the first Emperor of the Fel Empire, though due to the ContinuityReboot, we never get to see how this happens. Presumably, this would've been addressed in ''Sword of the Jedi'' and subsequent books after that.
* OfficerAndAGentleman: Always polite to just about everyone, even his opponents. Just not politicians.
* RefusedTheCall: He tries to at first when Luke appoints him Emperor, though he reluctantly accepts given that he's the best choice. Then, when he calls the Empire's first election, [[spoiler: he steps down at a crucial moment and backs Vitor Reige,]] allowing him to be the new Emperor.
* SiblingYinYang: The claims of his aloofness being because he was raised Chiss ring a little hollow when ''Survivor's Quest'' introduced his brother Chak, who is much more gregarious than his bro despite having grown up in Chiss space alongside him.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: Gets into this with Zekk, Jaina, and occasionally Han.
* TheStoic: He becomes less of one over time.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Apparently has a bit of the Antilles look in him, around the nose and the eyes.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: The second half of ''Literature/FateOfTheJedi'' is rife with Moffs trying to unseat him. All of them fail.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Jaina throughout each of the series. They get married at the end of ''Fate of the Jedi''.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Becomes rather adept at this, as Daala discovers to her dismay.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: He gets exiled from Chiss society following the events of the ''Literature/DarkNestTrilogy''.

!!Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gilad_pellaeon_swleu_6873.jpg]]

Gilad Pellaeon was a loyal and highly competent officer of the Imperial Starfleet (formerly the captain of the ship on which Anakin Skywalker served during the Clone Wars) who served as Thrawn's dependable right-hand-man. Following the Grand Admiral's defeat, he served for a time under Admiral Daala until finally taking command of the Empire himself. Realizing he had been defeated, he sued for peace and became a staunch ally of the New Republic (and later made the Remnant a full member of the Galactic Alliance). [[spoiler:He resigned his commission in protest of Jacen Solo's power-grabbing, and was later assassinated by Tahiri Veila.]]

For tropes relating to his depiction in the reboot, see the [[Characters/StarWarsImperialNavy Star Wars — Imperial Navy]] page.
----
* AntiVillain: Even the Imperials have {{Nice Guy}}s. Pellaeon fights for them out of patriotism and professionalism, not evil. [[spoiler: by the time of the Yuuzahn Vong war, he isn't even a villain anymore]]
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: By ''Literature/HandOfThrawn'', he gets to show just how much he learned from Thrawn's tutelage. When a group of conspirators plan a FalseFlagOperation to prevent peace talks between the Empire and Republic, using Corellian ships to put the blame on Republic general Bel Iblis, Pellaeon uses a very Thrawn-Like maneuver to see through their ruse in seconds: first, by recognizing that Bel Iblis is an honorable man who wouldn't ambush a parley, and second, by deploying one of Bel Iblis's own tactics against the attackers. When they're caught off guard, Pellaeon knows it's a trick.
* BadassBoast: A cracking one in ''Force Heretic I: Remnant''
-->''You may win the occasional battle against us, Vorrik, but [[ShoutOut the Empire will always strike back.]]''
* BadassNormal: 90 years old by the time of ''Literature/LegacyOfTheForce'', and he's still able to outgambit the Moffs and be a thorn in the side of his enemies.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: With the exception of Thrawn he's probably the most competent commander the Imps ever had. A few months after taking over from Daala he launched an offensive against the New Republic that actually took back some territory and kept hold of it.
* TheBrigadier: After the Empire and the New Republic stop fighting each other.
* ChickMagnet: Surprisingly enough. He has at least two illegitimate children who serve in the Imperial navy: Mynar Devis, who died in the Yuuzhan Vong War, and Vitor Reige.
* CoolOldGuy: One of the coolest in Franchise/StarWars.
* CulturedBadass: While at first he didn't learn much, by the time of Thrawn's death, he had learned quite a bit from him, including how to properly appreciate art and use it to understand species. He also gained an affinity for gardening by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War, even using it as a symbolic display of his Imperial doctrine. Mind, he was ''never'' as good as Thrawn, though he had come a long way.
* DarkHorseVictory: During Palpatine's rule amongst the various Force users, [[TheChessmaster manipulative schemers]] and mad geniuses serving him probably no-one would have pegged this competent but unremarkable seeming officer as the one who would ultimately become the Empire's true leader.
* {{Determinator}}: Spends his entire life fighting for the Empire, through massive failures (Daala, Thrawn's assassination) and stunning resurgence (thanks to his leadership). After Thrawn's death, it's his determination, virtually alone, that sustains the Empire long enough for it to re-emerge as the preeminent power in the galaxy, due to the New Republic's collapse in the Yuuzhan Vong wars and the Galactic Alliance's takeover by the Sith and subsequent fall. Notably, he once commanded a great victory from inside a bacta tank.
-->'''Captain Ardiff''': It's been a long road, sir. Long and hard and discouraging. For all of us, but mostly for you.
* TheDragon: To Thrawn, Warlord Treuten Teradoc, and then Daala. After Daala placed him in command of Imperial forces, he stops searching for someone to serve and decides to save what he can of the Empire himself.
* HeroWorshipper: To Thrawn. He broke out of this after a while, when he decided to assume Thrawn's legacy himself, instead of trying to get the morons above him to act like Thrawn.
-->'''Pellaeon''': I was overjoyed when he returned and I finally found a commander I could follow with a genuine hope of victory, rather than an endless string of defeats.
* HiddenDepths: While he was never incompetent, the atrocious leadership of the likes of Admiral Daala and Treuten Teradoc (not to mention the other warlords, who probably did as much damage to the Empire as the New Republic) forced him to [[TookALevelInBadass take several levels in Badass]] and step up to lead the Empire into the future, tapping into reserves of toughness, determination, character, and sheer military brilliance few thought an Imperial leader could possess. In the end, he far exceeded even Thrawn, and it was on his example that Jagged Fel and his successors built the new Empire.
* AFatherToHisMen: Always.
* FourStarBadass: Pellaeon eventually rises to the leader of the Empire's military (and by extension, the Imperial Remnant itself). He uses his own skills alongside what he learned from Thrawn to bring it from the brink of collapse to a renewed galactic power.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Assassinated by Tahiri during ''Literature/LegacyOfTheForce'']].
* MeaningfulName: He is named after Pelleas, a [[IronicName young]] [[TheIdealist idealistic]] knight of the Round Table in Myth/ArthurianLegend.
* OlderSidekick: Although Thrawn's actual age was unknown, Pelleon was in his sixties while serving under him, and physically older if not chronologically older.
* OneDegreeOfSeparation: He was friends with Captain Rex and worked alongside him, Ahsoka, Anakin, and also Callista.
* RankUp: After graduating the Imperial Academy, he was an ensign. During the Clone Wars, he was the captain of the ''Leveler'' and was later the captain of the ''Chimaera'' during the reign of the Empire, and during the Yuuzhan Vong War, he became a Grand Admiral himself.
* RedeemingReplacement: Pellaeon's leadership of the Empire officially marks it's moving from the BigBad to a morally greyer but mostly good force.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Several times stories show Pellaeon, even as Supreme Commander, being hamstrung by some of the rules the Imperial Remnant follows. Sometimes he tries to find as much of a workaround as possible. And sometimes he just goes "kriff it" and ignores them.
* TokenGoodTeammate: While some Imperials are shown to have complex motivations and morals, he's the only truly ''good'' person to achieve high rank in the Empire.
* TheWatson: In ''Literature/TheThrawnTrilogy'', to Thrawn, being the one to question his rationale for his orders and receive insight on them.
