Spyro's best friend. He monitors Spyro's health and helps him collect treasure. In ''Year of the Dragon'' this extends to dragon eggs, by way of certain missions in which he is playable.

----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Has a few levels to himself in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Even though he's Spyro's best friend, a few of his lines in ''A Hero's Tail'' suggest that he feels underappreciated as Spyro's sidekick. Particularly when he goes into cracks to retrieve collectibles:
-->'''Sparx''': So, you want me to risk my life while you "stand guard" out there?
* BreathWeapon: Gains the ability to spew energy balls in ''Year Of The Dragon''.
* FairyCompanion: Follows Spyro whenever present. This extends to other playable characters.
* FloatingInABubble: How he is able to travel underwater.
* ForceField: Eating a grey butterfly will grant Sparx one that allows him to ram enemies and hazards with impunity.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Spyro. They've been best friends since the first game.
* HyperactiveMetabolism: He'll recover health the moment he swallows a butterfly.
* InformedSpecies: Promotional art for the original [=PlayStation=] games shows him with arms and bulbous antennae. He more closely resembles a real dragonfly in ''Reignited Trilogy''.
* LifeMeter: As he loses hit points, his color cycles through gold, blue, and green before he totally vanishes. In ''Reignited Trilogy'', his tail droops as well. He can acquire an additional point of health in ''Year of the Dragon'' (a brighter gold at full health) and ''A Hero's Tail'' (red on his last point).
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Eating a purple butterfly will allow Sparx to spit spreads of rockets that have a slight homing ability.
* MoreDakka: Eating a green butterfly substantially increases Sparx's rate of fire, though it causes shots to go in a whipping pattern and has limited ammo.
* PlatformingPocketPal: He's perfectly capable of following Spyro and friends around without any trouble by flying behind them.
* PlayingWithFire: Eating a red butterfly will grant Sparx a flaming spread shot whose shots will spread into further shots when they hit enemies.
* PowerUpMagnet: His duty is to pick up gems and extra lives for Spyro. In ''Ripto's Rage!'' onward, the extra lives manifest as special butterflies.
* TheQuietOne: He doesn't talk at all in the first two games even when addressed, and still doesn't talk much in the third.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Zigzagged in ''Year Of the Dragon'' where Sparx spoke, but only in a "buzzy" language. Later played straight, he starts speaking legibly in ''A Hero's Tail''.
* TookALevelInBadass: Becomes playable in ''Year of the Dragon'', helping acquire dragon eggs where Spyro is too large to travel.
* TheUnintelligible: Before ''A Hero's Tail'' he only speaks in kazoo-like noises, though his cadence matches the on-screen text.
* UseYourHead: In ''Year of the Dragon'', he has a miniature version of Spyro's charge attack. A certain upgrade allows him to destroy certain chests for Spyro in this manner.

->''"I was about to jump down there, but I think I hear running water and I hate to get wet. It's a cat thing."''

Spyro's close friend and sidekick. He meets Spyro in Avalar and later follows him to the Dragon Kingdom, helping him look for orbs and dragon eggs by way of various missions. He's an established athlete and archer, often lending his bow to Spyro's cause.

----
* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Starting from ''A Hero's Tail'', he actively keeps his bow and arrows strapped to his back. This carried over into ''Reignited Trilogy'', where he wears them in both ''Ripto's Rage!'' and ''Year of the Dragon''.
* AllLovingHero: In ''Year of the Dragon''. Spyro and the other heroes are benevolent too, but show ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes heavy]]'' reservations towards people who provoke them hard enough ([[IronButtMonkey see Moneybags]]). Hunter is the only one to feel bad for Bianca, despite dissuasions from Spyro, and take interest in what the conflict between the Dragons and the Sorceress is all about, even offering to play peacemaker. Granted as much of this is because Hunter has a crush on Bianca.
* AlmightyJanitor: Despite him being [[TheDitz rather ditzy]] and being primarily proficient in archery, Hunter has a wide array of machinery and tools that one wouldn't expect out of him, including a JetPack, a snowmobile, a [[AcePilot remote-controlled fighter jet]], a [[CoolBoard jet-powered skateboard]], a [[ConvenientEscapeBoat motorboat]], and, inexplicably, a [[GrowingWings pair of wings]]. He's also seen at the end of ''Year of the Dragon'' repairing a [[SubStory submarine]].
* ArrowsOnFire: In ''A Hero's Tail'', Hunter can collect Fire Arrows, which he can use to destroy strong chests and metal walls.
* AscendedExtra: In his first appearance, he exists merely to offer missions and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero accidentally start the whole Ripto takeover in the first place]]. He's playable in certain Speedway missions in ''Year of the Dragon'', but has entire playable segments to himself in ''A Hero's Tail''.
* BadassNormal: Hunter excels in physical ability and can work well with vehicles and machinery. He's also quite skilled in archery, which he's used to help Spyro on several occasions.
* BigBrotherMentor: Occasionally takes this role for Spyro, running the gliding tutorial missions in ''Ripto's Rage!'' and ''Year of the Dragon''. In ''Ripto's Rage!'' he tells Spyro about camera settings, and in ''Year of the Dragon'' introduces him to skateboarding.
* BreakoutCharacter: Initially just one of the many mission givers in ''Ripto's Rage'' (albeit with some plot relevance in [[NiceJobBreakingItHero accidentally starting Ripto's takeover]]), Hunter eventually became one of Spyro's most prominent allies, becoming playable in certain Speedway missions in ''Year of the Dragon'' and fully playable in certain areas in ''A Hero's Tail'' (along with appearing in every other Spyro game in-between), ultimately culminating in him being the only character besides Spyro and Sparx to make the jump to ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro'' series.
* ButtMonkey: Getting his feet locked in solid rock, thrown into a wall, attacked by sharks, stuck in a hole, battered with attacks aimed at Spyro, kidnapped and imprisoned...
* CastHerd: With Elora and the Professor in ''Ripto's Rage!'', then with Spyro and Zoe in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* CatsHateWater: He pops up once or twice in ''Year of the Dragon'', which oddly conflicts with the odd occasion he's seen underwater, though he's at least wearing scuba gear.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}:
* CoolBoard: He teaches Spyro to ride a skateboard in ''Year of the Dragon'', and competes with him in certain missions.
* CoolPlane: A mission in ''Ripto's Rage!'' involves Spyro riding his remote-controlled drone, which is equipped with guns.
* CowardlyLion: He claims to have the ability to get things done and for the most part does. He's just not very bold or outgoing about it when it's time to shut up.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: When he does fight, he's actually pretty good at it, usually employing his bow but also using anything from laser pistols to a fighter plane or sometimes just going toe to toe. ''Reignited'' gives his martial prowess more time to shine.
%%* DatingCatwoman: With Bianca [[spoiler:prior to her HeelFaceTurn]].
* DependingOnTheWriter: How tough he is varies quite a bit. At his weakest in ''Ripto's Rage'', where he's a total wimp who can barely talk back to Ripto, and at his strongest in ''A Hero's Tail'', wherein he's a main playable character who can actually back up his boasting. ''Year of the Dragon'' is a bit of middle ground, he is easily caught by the Sorceress' obvious trap but nevertheless holds his own in the sidequests where you play as him.
* TheDitz: A mild example. While competent, he does have a few moments of stupidity.
* EatenAlive: Apparently by a metal shark in the epilogue of ''Ripto's Rage!''. He returns alive and well in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* {{Flanderization}}:
** Zigzagged in ''A Hero's Tail'': his ditzy SurferDude tendencies are far less pronounced, but his ego seems to have increased (granted in this case, [[TookALevelInBadass he's able to back it up a fair bit]]).
** His archery skills, despite being an iconic part of his character at this point, were a case of this. When he debuted in ''Spyro 2'', he used his bow a grand total of ''once'' in the entire game. Later games would play up this more and more to the point his ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro'' incarnation was near full-on Robin Hood. Even the ''VideoGame/SpyroReignitedTrilogy'' would retroactively play this up, showing him carrying around a bow on him even when he doesn't need it. Considering this ended up becoming a rather iconic part of his character, this may be a case of Administrivia/TropesAreNotBad.
* FunnyAnimal: He's an anthropomorphic cheetah.
* GrewASpine: His LovableCoward tendencies are far less pronounced in ''Year of the Dragon'', something that ends up making him quite pivotal to Bianca's own CharacterDevelopment, who he is recurrently bold and sympathetic around, even after the Sorceress captures him.
* GuestFighter: He's a "Guest Racer" in ''VideoGame/CrashTeamRacingNitroFueled''.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Unlike most racers in ''Nitro-Fueled'', he criticizes himself heavily for his loss.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: He and Spyro seem to become this by ''Year of the Dragon''.
* IconicSequelCharacter: He debuted in ''Ripto's Rage!'' and has become Spyro's most iconic recurring ally. He even managed to return ([[AdaptationalBadass albeit in a different form]]) for the [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro subsequent reboot]].
* InformedSpecies: Downplayed in the original [=PlayStation=] games: he does look like a cheetah, but not too closely. In ''A Hero's Tail'', his muzzle is white, his tail is more catlike, his spots are darker, and he now has discernible teeth and digits. His design in ''Reignited Trilogy'' takes cues from this incarnation but makes him scruffier and gives him stripes on the sides of his muzzle like a real cheetah.
* JetPack: He uses it to stop cat burglars in ''Ripto's Rage!'' and invading farm animals in ''Year Of The Dragon''.
* LovableCoward: Sometimes he's like this. In the second game, when Ripto steals the power crystal from the Professor, Elora tells him to do something to stop him. His reply is "Uh... [[BadBadActing Hey! Give that back!]] ...Well, I tried." In the Reignited Trilogy, he actually does try to physically stop Ripto, albeit badly.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He accidentally let Ripto, Crush, and Gulp into Avalar in the first place by punching the wrong coordinates[[note]]his birthday[[/note]] into the Professor's superportal. Consequently he is indirectly responsible for them meeting Spyro in the first place, as well as the latter meeting his ArchEnemy [[DownplayedTrope and ultimately being defeated by him.]]
* PluckyComicRelief: Hunter's clumsiness and dialogue makes him the source of most humor since ''Ripto's Rage!''.
* PromotedToPlayable: He has limited playability in ''Year of the Dragon'' and is fully playable in ''A Hero's Tail'' and ''Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled''.
* TheRival: Albeit a [[FriendlyRival good-natured one]], as he quickly comes to respect Spyro's capabilities during ''Ripto's Rage!''.
* SmallNameBigEgo: A nuanced example: he's fairly competent, but is still a [[TheDitz ditz]] who views himself as TheAce in sports.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Averted in the original series since he has no problem giving Spyro missions to do while underwater and can swim fine on his own, but played straight in ''A Hero's Tail'' where he sinks like a rock in any body of water.
* TookALevelInBadass: From a bumbling sports fan in ''Ripto's Rage!'', to a tinkerer and adept pilot in ''Year of the Dragon'', to a competent warrior in ''A Hero's Tail''.
* TookALevelInJerkass: A downplayed case in ''A Hero's Tail'': he's still a NiceGuy overall, but a lot more egotistical and a tad blunt and rude in dialogue scenes.
* TrickArrow: One mission in ''Ripto's Rage'' has Hunter assist Spyro by shooting arrows at enemies to stun them so that Spyro can [[GroundPound Headbash]] them. In the ''Reignited Trilogy'', these arrows are [[ShockAndAwe electrified]], and emit yellow sparks when fired.
* UnexplainedRecovery: He falls into the lava during the final battle of ''Ripto's Rage!'', emerging without a singe on his fur in the following cutscene. He's also eaten by a metal shark in the epilogue, but returns in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* VocalEvolution: Creator/GreggBerger's take became less gruff after ''Ripto's Rage!'', gaining a more relaxed 'surfer dude' dialect. This is further enforced by Creator/JessHarnell in ''A Hero's Tail'' and Creator/RobbieDaymond in ''Reignited Trilogy''.

->''"They say this world used to have magic coming out the wazoo... flying ships, singing forests, wishing stones, you name it."''

One of the four other playable characters besides Spyro in ''Year of the Dragon'', and the first to be freed. Sheila, an [[KangaroosRepresentAustralia Austrialian-accented kangaroo]], lives on a mountain with her three goat neighbors. The Sorceress captures her and has her guarded by Moneybags, from whom Spyro has to free her.
----
* ActionGirl: A very competent fighter.
* BadassAdorable: A kangaroo that can kick open a turret, for crying out loud. She is even more adorable in the Reignited version, where she is given a more feminine design.
* BashBrothers: Helps Spyro fight Buzz.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Usually a [[NiceGirl friendly and pleasant lass]], though she won't hesitate to trample Moneybags or any rhynoc.
* BigOlEyebrows: She has these in her original design. Theyre still present in her Reignited redesign, but are slightly smaller and arent as prominent thanks to her new hairstyle.
* DoubleJump: She can jump once in midair.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: She's extremely laid back and motherly personality wise, and is even willing to forgive Bianca after she repents, however, [[TurnTheOtherFist despite saying otherwise]], her forgiveness meets a deadend with the remorselessly greedy and two-faced Moneybags, who she furiously pummels as payback for charging for her freedom just as the other imprisoned heroes do in ''Year of the Dragon''. This vendetta returns in ''Season of Flame'' where Moneybags blockades and charges for all her levels, increasing the tolls because the kangaroo won't stop cussing him in response. Shiela not only reached her NiceGirl limits with Moneybags, but [[ItsPersonal he actually took exception to it]].
* ExtremityExtremist: Fights exclusively by [[KickChick kicking]].
* GirlinessUpgrade: ''Reignited Trilogy'' gives her a more curvaceous body and red hair styled in pigtails.
* GroundPound: One of her forms of attack.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: She dons a safari shirt in ''Reignited Trilogy''.
* HartmanHips: Technically speaking she had these from the start, but her more anthropomorphic design in ''Reignited Trilogy'' really draws attention to her huge legs.
* InASingleBound: Comes with the territory of being a kangaroo. She can DoubleJump and has a super jump activated by jumping upon hitting the ground from a previous jump.
* IShallTauntYou: She insults Moneybags for blocking her levels in VideoGame/Spyro2SeasonOfFlame, he responds by asking you [[CashGate to pay him gems]] to open the portal and forgive her insults.
* KangaroosRepresentAustralia: While she lives on a European-based mountain with German-accented mountain goats wearing lederhosen, she has a thick Aussie accent.
* KickChick: Her entire moveset revolves around powerful kicks and stomps. Justified as real-life kangaroos have powerful kicks that can badly injure or outright kill a human.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4S65jvwCKw Sheila's Alp]], which plays during her playable segments in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* MsExposition: Explains part of the situation regarding the Forgotten Realms' lack of magic and their history with dragons after Spyro frees her.
* NiceGirl: A kind, friendly kangaroo who's perfectly happy to lend a foot to anyone who needs her help. Just don't try to keep her in a cage, [[BewareTheNiceOnes as Moneybags learned the hard way]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In ''Season Of Flame'', it's implied Moneybags keeps inflating Spyro's costs for Sheila's levels as payback for her insulting him.
-->'''Moneybags:''' I'm not sure what your friend said about me, but I'm sure it wasn't nice. It's going to take quite a few gems to help me get over my anguish....say, '''''1000'''''?
* SpringJump: Can perform a very high jump by jumping again immediately upon landing.
* TeamMom: Seems to take this role toward her mountain goat neighbors, as well as a group of seals in Seashell Shore.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Gains pigtails and a more feminine silhouette in ''Reignited Trilogy''.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only playable female character in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* TurnTheOtherFist: After Spyro frees her from Moneybags, she assures the bear "no hard feelings"... before buck kicking him hard into a nearby wall.

->''"My tactical instincts told me the Sorceress would attack you here, so I flew in to help out."''

One of the four other playable characters besides Spyro in ''Year of the Dragon''. Sgt. Byrd, a penguin, lives with hummingbirds who raised him, taught him to fly, and trained him as a soldier. The Sorceress captures him and has him guarded by Moneybags, from whom Spyro has to free him.
----
* AbnormalAmmo: Drops weapons for Spyro to use during his battle with Spike, who can use them for himself.
* AmazonBrigade: He lives and works with an army of female hummingbirds.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He ''is'' an army sergeant, after all.
* BadassAdorable: He's a flying penguin... with missile launchers.
* BestServedCold: Saves his rockets for Moneybags upon Spyro freeing him.
* BigDamnHeroes: His hummingbird troops are unable to effectively combat the rhynocs in his absence, but he quickly turns the tide upon his return.
* ChainOfPeople: His playable segments in ''Attack of the Rhynocs'' require him to rescue his soldiers using this method.
* DeathFromAbove: He can pick up things with his legs and then drop them down to an enemy below.
* {{Flight}}: He can fly indefinitely, though compared to Spyro using a Superfly Powerup he is less mobile.
* FlyingFlightlessBird: Because of the training he got from hummingbirds, he is able to flap his penguin flippers fast enough to be able to fly.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Zigzagged. Sgt. Bird says he has limited ammunition when Spyro frees him, saving it for Moneybags instead of simply blasting himself out of the cage. It quickly turns out James can fire rockets indefinitely during gameplay... however, blasting similar cages with his normal ammunition proves to do nothing, so trying to free himself was fruitless (and dangerous).
* GlassCannon: He can kill most enemies at range, but he's hard to steer when walking. Like Spyro, he dies in one hit without Sparx.
* InterspeciesRomance: His girlfriend, Isabelle, is one of the fairies from Charmed Ridge.
* JetPack: Gets one in ''A Hero's Tail.''
* TheLancer: In comparison to the chill, fun-loving, and mischievous Spyro, Sgt. Byrd is strict, organized, and serious.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKxV7TgZ9sA Sgt. Byrd's Base]], which plays during his playable segments in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: His shoulder-mounted rocket launchers are his primary weapon.
* OfficerAndAGentleman: He enjoys hanging out at the Tiki Lodge and is in a relationship with a Charmed Ridge fairy.
* PeculiarPenguin: Sgt. Byrd is a penguin that somehow managed to learn how to fly from the hummingbirds that adopted him. Some definite ArtisticLicenseOrnithology is in play there.
* ShoutOut:
** [[TheNameIsBondJamesBond His name is]] "[[Franchise/JamesBond Byrd, James Byrd]]", as his introductory cutscene is titled. He has the same British accent and his call number is 9-''double-0-6''8.
** His surname and species may also be a reference to the Antarctic explorer Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd.
* TheStoic: Speaks and acts like a typical military officer.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: While it is E-rated BloodlessCarnage, the fact James relies heavily on explosives makes him the most destructive of Spyro's allies.

->''"Ah, the first rejuvinating breath of freedom! With the humility of a wounded sparrow, I genuflect to my noble deliverer."''

One of the four other playable characters besides Spyro in ''Year of the Dragon''. Bentley, a large yeti, lives with his younger brother Bartholomew at an outpost in some icy mountains. Bentley wields a large club made of ice and enormous strength, having the [[GeniusBruiser intelligence]] and [[SesquipedalianLoquaciousness vocabulary]] to back it up. The Sorceress captures him and has him guarded by Moneybags, from whom Spyro has to free him.
----
* AttackReflector: By spinning his club quickly, he can deflect enemy projectiles back to their senders.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Normally a nice guy, but if you mess with his little brother or imprison him he ''will'' bring the thunder.
* BigBrotherInstinct: To Bartholomew, whom he seems to be responsible for [[PromotionToParent raising as well]].
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: He's a big, horned, white-furred humanoid identified as a yeti and who lives in a cold climate, but has no problem visiting other realms. He even has a favored walking spot in sunny Bamboo Terrace.
* BigHeartedBigfoot: He's a heroic Yeti.
* BlueIsHeroic: Has blue skin and horns and is one of Spyro's allies.
* BoxingBattler: Gets into a boxing match with the Colossus yeti after Bartholomew tells him the yeti took his ball.
%%* CarryABigStick:
* CollectorOfTheStrange: He collects rocks.
* DemotedToExtra: Out of the four player characters in ''Year of the Dragon'', Bentley is the only one who hasn't been playable since.
* DumbMuscle: In his later appearances, where he's not nearly as smart as he was in his debut, but he's just as strong as before.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible to Bartholomew's foolish.
* GeniusBruiser: He was highly intelligent and highly powerful in his early appearances.
* GentleGiant: He is one of Spyro's bigger allies and can fight well, though he is hardly ever hostile toward anyone non-villainous. Even for Moneybags, his one exception, he had to take his smarmy attitude even further to earn his wrath compared to the others.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ccx3o88IH0 Bentley's Outpost]], which plays during his playable segments in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* MightyGlacier: He's very slow and can't jump very high, but he's the only character who can break armored doors and chests without powerups.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Gives Moneybags quite the thrashing upon being freed by Spyro.
* OneManArmy: It took ''two dozen'' rhynocs to take him down and imprison him.
* RageBreakingPoint: Despite being imprisoned by Moneybags he seems to turn a blind eye at first. Until Moneybags tries to take credit for freeing him. This is the last straw and an enraged Bentley brutally clobbers him.
* SameCharacterButDifferent: In ''A Hero's Tail'', he is noticeably redesigned and lacks his accent and advanced diction, being a more standard not too bright GentleGiant.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Tends to talk like this, especially in his introductory cutscene.
-->'''Bentley''': ''[to Moneybags]'' Why, you brazenly avaricious, duplicitous, larcenous ursine!
* TookALevelInDumbass: This happens to him in ''A Hero's Tail'' and ''Attack of the Rhynocs'', as he no longer speaks in SesquipedalianLoquaciousness, struggles to pronounce "archaeology" and is much clumsier in general.
* UnPerson: Attempted by the Sorceress, who insists he is only a myth.

One of the four other playable characters besides Spyro in ''Year of the Dragon'', and the last to be freed. Agent 9, a hyperactive monkey wielding a laser gun, lives with the Professor, his mentor. The Sorceress captures him and has him guarded by Moneybags, from whom Spyro has to free him.
----
* AxCrazy: A rare heroic example. He has no qualms about shooting Moneybags, Rhynocs or the dogs in Haunted Tomb and [[LaughingMad laughing all the while]], but he remains a prominent ally to Spyro nonetheless.
* BadassNormal: Relies more heavily on technological weaponry than Spyro, and has no special abilities beyond that.
* BloodKnight: His response to being cursed in Haunted Tomb for shooting someone is to track down the same dog and shoot him again. He's also too excited to know there is trouble in Dino Mines to hear exactly what it is before he can get to shooting things.
* BossArenaRecovery: Shoots balloons that hold sheep and powerups during Spyro's battle with the Sorceress, dropping them for his use.
* EleventhHourRanger: Downplayed; you don't get to rescue him until Midnight Mountain, the last world in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* EnergyWeapon: Uses a laser pistol as his main method of attack.
* EvilLaugh: Does this when he finds the [[MoreDakka powerup]] mentioned below, as well as during his revenge on Moneybags.
* HeroicAmbidexterity: He holds his raygun in his left hand and can throw bombs with his right.
* {{Keet}}: Especially in his introduction. He's very excitable.
* LaughingMad: A rare heroic case.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MLkTiViNAc Agent 9's Lab]], which plays during his playable segments in ''Year of the Dragon''.
* ManChild: He has the attention span, demeanor, and maturity of a ten-year-old, and enjoys shooting people just for fun.
* MeaningfulName: More like Meaningful Number? The monkey is the ninth animal in the Chinese Zodiac. Guess what species of animal Agent 9 is?
* MoreDakka: Can find a powerup that gives him this in his section of Fireworks Factory.
* MotorMouth: A hallmark of his. His mission in Dino Mines starts with Deputy Roy having to slow him down. In ''Reignited'', his first interaction with Spyro involves the dragon completely unable to get a word in for most of the cutscene, since the moment he opens his mouth, Agent 9's moved on to the next train of thought.
* OptionalPartyMember: It's possible to play through the main story of ''Year of the Dragon'' without unlocking him because, unlike Sheila, Sgt. Byrd or Bentley, he isn't necessary to fight his area's boss (the Sorceress). However, if you want HundredPercentCompletion, his stages are just as mandatory as the other animal buddies.
* ReflectingLaser: His laser shots bounce off of walls.
* StealthBasedMission: Taking the "Agent" part of his name a bit too literally, ''Attack of the Rhynocs'' has him sneaking through Rhynoc bases to rescue his fellow monkeys. Quite ironic, considering [[LargeHam how]] [[MotorMouth he]] [[LaughingMad usually]] [[TriggerHappy acts]].
* SuperDrowningSkills: Unlike fellow playable characters Spyro and Sheila, Agent 9 cannot swim and sinks like a rock in any body of water. Ironically, this includes the water in his home base.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: Can pick up and throw bombs in Agent 9's Lab.
* TriggerHappy: Shooting others is his favorite pastime.

Spyro's newest ally in ''A Hero's Tail'', Blink is a young mole and the Professor's nephew. After being freed by the purple dragon, Blink decides to help in the fight against Red and any villain that shows up afterwards.
----
* AbsurdPhobia: He has "fresh-air-a-phobia", and can't stand the thought of not being trapped deep underground.
* EnergyWeapon: The TrickedOutGloves his uncle gave him fire these.
* KidHero: Young and confident.
* MoleMiner: A mole who loves exploring underground.
* StickyBomb: He can carry and throw "Blink bombs", which stick to surfaces.
* SuddenNameChange: Is called "Blinky" in ''Spyro Orange''.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Sinks like a rock in any body of water.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Replaces Agent 9 in ''A Hero's Tail'', being another brown-furred, confident mammal student of the Professor's who can fire lasers and throw bombs.
* TunnelKing: Loves to dig and explore below ground, and displays impressive skill while doing so.
